I was hired for what I thought would be an advanced guitar instructor. I have played guitar and toured in bands for over 20 years. I was told I would "inherit" students over time.
I was treated like I was beneath the inner circle of chosen instructors that get the hours, because I spent over 4 months trying to break past 8 hours a week, even though my availability was opened from Thursday to Saturday initially to even Tuesday to Saturday, I was never given the opportunity to work with even a dozen. This job was a joke. I barely ever worked with anyone but small children, most of whom were not trying to be there. I thought I would at least get a few adults. Nope. Ages ranged from 8 to 14. I had one adult because I was covering for someone else that day.
I was even forced to work a birthday party for a 5 year old. I thought I was doing advanced guitar instruction here, not working at Chuck E Cheese.
One of my 5 regular students was a lone lesson for 30 minutes in an entire day packed with lessons for other instructors, and he has behavioral problems! What is this? Not to mention the constant lies about getting more pay, getting more students, being told I would be directing shows, only to find out that the inner circle are the only ones who direct! Go figure! You'll just be an "assistant" (stand there for 2 hours and be allowed to contribute nothing). I should've known from the first week something was wrong when the owner running the school "forgot" to pay me! Then I had to remind them a month later to pay that money back to me!! Every week I dealt with not getting any hours, being given excuses by the manager, taken off the schedule last minute when the kid canceled, even though I'm standing in the building. Who does this? Why keep hiring people and doing this to them?
The instructors are mostly man to the children, and barely have an education. It's mostly to hire the friends of the manager, because I was treated unequally by my coworkers, I'm guessing because I'm white and in my 40s. The managers don't care. They only wanted me there to cover Friday and Saturday nights, so they could party. The music director is such a horrible drunk, that his breath would kill you standing next to him. I had high hopes and I really cared for the students. But these instructors and management are terrible people. I had heard the front of house person mention "kids are gross" on several occasions and even punked out an 8 year old! What a tough guy! And this is the clown that kisses your a$$ on the phone to get you to bring your kids in there! His name is BLAISE!! STEER CLEAR OF THIS PLACE!! read more
