First off, the work here is typically great... I've had one instance of seeing a cracked brace through the sound hole after the repair and I don't remember seeing it before the repair. My had for not taking a photo beforehand to make sure this wasn't how I hrought the guitar in. Not a cheap guitar either a 50's martin with decent value. They state that all customers are important, but I've never felt a consistent "warmth" in the atmosphere, mostly tension and I fear it's because I'm a young guy (less than 30) and they seem to "know it all" cuz they've "seen it all". While this may he true it shouldn't be made so obvious. I can no longer recommend this shop due to high prices, little negotiation and long lead times. For example I asked about a neck reset, I was quoted between $300-$500+ with a 12 month + lead time. I can send my guitars out of state for a neck reset that will cost only $300 with a 2 week lead time. That's to a well known shop, not some "get it done in the garage type", too... Some may think I'm a "noob" without much experience, but that's not the case. I've owned over 30 guitars, mostly vintage guitars from the late 1800's to current. I have 6 guitars coming in this week, 1 going out today and 8+ going up for sale next week... Upon the last service I had done, I questioned some of the expenses which seemed to offend John Bolzenius and he returned an email with a less than friendly tone. He also asked that I take my work elsewhere which I will gladly do. I can recommend 5th Avenue Fretshop, German Village Music Haus & Dace Bush to name a few depending on what work is needed. For vintage work there are several good options in KY, NC, and Nashville areas. read more

Good experience. John did a good job on re-fretting my neck and planing down the fretboard after Taylor qualified luthiers messed it up including their factory. Taylor would not help even though I called them. Very happy with his work! read more

I came because it was highly recommended. But then I learned the truth. John kept my guitar for much longer than estimated. I had to keep calling to get updates. They didn't call me as promised. That was annoying, but it wasn't the worst thing. John gave me a written estimate of $90 maximum, but then charged $150 when I came in. He then lectured and berated me until I was in tears. He held my guitar hostage until I paid what he said, even though the written estimate that HE gave me, said $90. He complained that spent time talking to me when I came in. I guess that costs extra. I honestly don't know how he runs a business. I'm embarrassed that I let him intimidate me into paying whatever number he made up. It is his responsibility to write a clear estimate and to honor his word. It was a nightmare. Don't bring your precious instruments here. read more

Amazing, skilled, and dedicated craftsmen! I had them install a bone nut on my Fender Strat and set it up. It now plays like an instrument that would cost hundreds more. The difference is night and day. I can't believe how much better it plays after the set up. John and everyone in the shop are tremendously skilled and knowledgeable. As active players and instrument builders they possess extraordinary instrumental acumen. They are current with the latest trends in guitar building and repair, and astir in their pursuit of great playability and tone. I took my ESP 256 in to be upgraded with new pickups and set up...Josh helped me...He was very nice and answered all my questions...The job was done in a reasonable amount of time...He did a wonderful job bringing the best out of my guitar...It plays/sounds great and the set up is masterfully done...I will definitely be back for my next project guitar...I would highly suggest these folks at Guitar House Workshop to handle your next guitar upgrade or servicing. read more

This local repair shop/store is genuinely fantastic. John has made a number of adjustments and repairs to my guitar over the years. I completely trust his expertise, judgement, and experience. Once, after a fall, my guitar face was completely split and chipped. John added a number of braces to the inside and repaired the finish to an exact match! I could not believe the result...it was amazing. The shop is always full of very nice guitars and instruments. All levels of musicians entrust their instruments to John. They also have a nice selection of new and used instruments available for sale. John and Linda support many local causes, support the schools, and have a very positive way of talking to kids and encouraging them in music. In sum: Great shop, trustworthy and expert repairs, friendly and kind. They love music, they love community, they pay it forward! read more

Recently had work done on a new Fender Strat. Linda took the guitar in on a Saturday and we were able to pick it up on Tuesday. The set up was perfect just as requested John even took time to clean up the frets for us. The work we excellent they kept us in the loop as to the progress and were great to deal with. I will certainly take other guitars and my bass to John if I need anything at all. The price was excellent and their service was even better! 5 Stars!! read more

What a sweet family business! I took my guitar to have the pickup checked and ultimately a new one installed. They make guitars as well as repair them and are so nice and spent a lot of time with us not just fixing my guitar but explaining things and giving us info they didn't need to. I have not had such a great experience anywhere else with my guitar. I will only go to these guys. I also quite enjoyed the luthier's wife who was doing a beautiful canvas painting while we were there-as part of the workshop is her art studio. You will see her work displayed throughout.
