Del Mar Station Platform

This was my "home" station when I lived in Pasadena. Food, transportation, parking. It has it all! Station: The station is at the busy intersection of Del Mar and Arroyo. Unlike a lot of other stops on the Gold Line, this station was designed as a destination in itself. There are apartment buildings around the tracks (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/del-mar-gold-line-station-pasadena?select=m1oF6W2XHtsvcBgMGkwu_g#bsnd0ad7nANJONy7ZPc6PQ) and several restaurants within that building including a pizza place that people apparently really like (I didn't find it all that great). The courtyard around the actual station is gorgeous with lots of brushed steel artwork and trees. It's a really gorgeous station and sometimes I would just come here for the heck of it. Parking: There is an underground parking garage with the entrance on the Raymond side. If you park here to get on the Gold Line, it's only $2 with I think an additional $4 or 6 if you park overnight. You have to actually give them your TAP card that has been tapped to prove that you parked here, so no fooling around. The garage also has parking for residents, so make sure you are in the correct zone to avoid a ticket.

I never thought subway stations could be pretty but that changed after seeing the Del Mar Gold Line Station. It's always tough to expect a station to be clean. Not only is this clean, but it really is a work of art. With the luxury apartments built around it, the hip, modern, artsty weld-work structuring the actual station and the adjacent businesses that draw in people who love their craft beers and quality pizza--Del Mar Gold Line is the cute hip girl who definately gets more attention (in my book) than the more obvious attention getting popular cheerleader in Union Station. If you ever ride the Gold Line and get off at Del Mar, you'll be hard pressed to go more than a block from the station itself. You have Le Grande Orange for dinner, the Otis Bar for a quality cocktail, the Stone Brewing Company to taste quality beer, Congregation Ale House to gastropub it and Central Park to safely pass out in after eating and imbibing (actually, I don't recommend passing out in Central Park). Plus, you can just people watch. On a sunny Sunday morning, Del Mar Gold Station is bustling with young couples, families, hipsters and the like. A fun place to feel the positive vibe of a crowd that doesn't want to waste a sunny day inside. It's also a good starting point for any fun weekend night in Downtown Pasadena. Get off at the Del Mar Gold Line. Have a light dinner at Le Grande Orange or share an organic pizza at Luggage Room Pizzeria. Sample some beers at Stone Brewing Company. Sample more beers and fries and wonderful dipping sauces and Congregation Alehouse (or have your meal there with one of their awesome gourmet burgers) and then take a short casual walk to Colorado and hop to the hippity hoppity places there. If I could live above or by a subway station, this would be it.

This station is so clean and nice. And it feels very safe. Just to park here and not use the Metro is $6 per day. First hour and a half is free and then $2 per hour after with a $6 max. Not sure if there is overnight parking. Only $2 if you use the Metro. Just a 10 min walk to the Hilton and Sheraton and all the shopping too.

This station is one of the nicest rail stations I have been to in the LA area.[see photos] It is very peaceful and they have a Philly sandwich shop if you are hungry.

I found myself at the Fillmore Gold Line Station as the meeting point for a FREE bus shuttle ride for a recent event, the "YEE: San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino". This was my first time here and was absolutely unaware of this station. Finally, I began using the Metro on a regular basis, so I was very much a virgin of the many stops. Although I simply parked here this time, would this introduction somehow lead me back for more!?: Sandwiched between Raymond Ave. and the 110 S. Arroyo Parkway, vehicle entrance was available on Raymond Ave. only. The closest main throughfare was Fair Oaks Ave. a mere two blocks away. Along Raymond Ave. was the onsite Lovebirds Café & Bakery for a drink coffee, pastry, or smoothie fix, across the street was Jones Coffee Roasters for caffeine fiends, and Pie Life Pizza for a heartier meal...just to name a few. Across the tracks along the 110 S. Arroyo Parkway was Gotta Java for more caffeine addicts, My Vegan for some healthy fare, and Sushi Ichi for raw fish...also just to name a few. Hop on and explore eastward towards Azusa, or take it into Union Station in Downtown L.A. to continue towards East L.A. or transfer to either the Purple or Red (the Blue and Green Lines, respectively, connected from the Purple/Red Lines) Lines which took you to various parts around Los Angeles county https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=5-d384Roi4MwWvz1-URW9Q&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. Service - Ummm...you pulled up to the ticket machine, selected either "public parking" or used your TAP card for "Metro", found a spot (there was another driveway arm on Levels 4-5 for Metro users that required a TAP card to pass through), either took the elevator or stairs to the ground floor, and off you went on your way. When you returned, you did the exact reverse. But in the case of non-Metro users, you paid before you exited the structure. Easy-peasy! Parking (Varied; $12.00 All-Day this instance) - This was a five-story structure where Levels 1-3 were for public parking (240 spaces; $12.00 maximum) and Levels 4-5 were for the Metro (160 spaces; FREE). Conveniently, there was an electronic sign that showed how many Metro parking spots were available. Sadly, I left my TAP card at home and was stuck with being charged. I noticed a nearby pay lot that "quoted $5.00" but unsure for how long. And, it appeared there may've been other parking options in the area. But I basically said "eff it" and bit the bullet. Lesson learned for the next time... Atmosphere, décor, ambience - A tall spacious metal covered structure with viewpoints from every level and plenty of both natural and electric lighting guided you through. The station itself was an above-ground track that ran between the backside of businesses, had covered waiting areas on the platform, and was in very close proximity to a couple places for a quick drink or snack. There were no TVs (except for schedule monitors) nor background music (the whiz of the train was rather melodic). Attire - Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the Fillmore Gold Line Station with its relative proximity to a few places I frequented, as well as others I wouldn't mind trying. Its location was a healthy walking distance to the Huntington Memorial Hospital and other medical facilities, so this was an ideal spot for commuters who worked in the area. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $12.00; no tipping required). And, they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX! 4.0 STARS

I bought my ticket on Ticketmaster for $12.50 each but they sold tickets there on the spot for $10 (I paid the transaction fee online). I do believe you need cash and exact change from what I saw though. Buses are hit or miss, you either take the older school bus looking buses or you might strike gold taking the huge charter buses. It's completely random but overall it was a 30-40 minute ride so not bad. Shuttle Return - They gave me a ticket per person as admission for the return travel. It's $15 if you lose this ticket so DO NOT lose it. They did a great job telling everyone how to find the bus back and really had no issues loading and returning home. Just be sure to get back to the buses before 25 minutes after the concert. (This is honestly pretty reasonable I probably got back in 10-15) Parking was safe with a security guard as well as FREE when you park on the 3rd level or above. I would recommend this option when going to the Hollywood bowl for a cheaper and efficient way to get there.

It's well kept and easy to access, has kiosks for purchasing and reloading physical TAP cards and a fair amount of benches/seating spaced out as well as trash cans/waste bins and signage to help guild you via maps, digital screens displaying arrival times for the East or West Bound side and some cool designs throughout making it feel very local. My big problem is over the past 10 years, even with improvements the West Bound side continues to experience a ridiculous number of delays and issues. Recently I saw 3 trains for the Eastbound side go by within the span of half an hour while waiting for the West, it was the worst deja vu because it happened in 2015, 2016, 2018, 2021 and now here again today. I have taken it Westbound with zero issue once. To top it off the train I was on had major issues, possibly do to another cart on the track, safety concern or something from the moment we took off. It kept at the slowest pace for three stations stops, eerily so and then came to a complete stop for several minutes where I saw another Eastbound train go by O.O - NO ANNOUNCEMENT whatsoever. I was running later than I wanted to for meeting up in Highland Park. It made me realize boarding here isn't the best, at least not for me. Eventually the train was moving and functioning normal the remainder I was on which was less than a minute as I was only going four stops, guuuuurl... Do better. The Gold Line is arguably the cleanest, and the train on which you're least likely to get tuberculosis of the rainbow lines. Weekday commuters use the train to get into LA, or to Inion station where the red line, for example, connects with Mid-Wilshire, etc. If you live or park near the Allen station (watch the neighborhood signs restricting parking without a permit, or park a block or two away where there are no signs) you can easily catch the train to Old Town Pasadena, the village area of South Pasadena, or go get some Mu Shu pork in Chinatown. Great for folks who don't mind walking a bit, or who like to have a few adult beverages and don't want to risk a DUI. All riders now must have a TAP card (purchase and reload at the kiosks) or a pass... No more paper tickets. While chances are you'll never have an incident on any public transportation vehicle, there are still the occasional weirdos, people with chronic coughs and poorly dressed wounds, the costume people, homeless folks in desperate need of a shower.
