Del Mar is a very nice subway stop on the Gold Line in the heart of Pasadena. It is outdoors, well maintained, nicely designed, clean and safe. Lots of restaurants around, within a few steps, a park and other attractions. Also, a great stop if you want to explore Old Town Pasadena and don't feel like driving. Very close to the convention center if you plan attending an event there. Convenient and more pleasant to use than other stops in LA's subway system! read more

One of the prettiest and safest metro stations in Los Angeles! There is public paid parking underground. Historically, this stop was a train depot from the 1800s and the old train depot building still exists and now operates as an onsite restaurant. read more

This is one of the nicest Gold Line stations I've seen. It's in Old Pasadena and it's a short walk to several places for food and a large park. There a wonderful piece of art at the entrance. It's an odd station because the new apartments abut the east side of the tracks. The station was very clean, bright, and easily accessible. read more

This is my favorite station of the Gold Line. Walkable distance to Old Town Pasadena & just gorgeous all around especially at night. They have an underground parking structure located next to the station off Raymond. $2 to park all day with receipt. There are a few restaurants in the vicinity of the station for quick bites before heading on to the train. read more

This was my "home" station when I lived in Pasadena. Food, transportation, parking. It has it all! Station: The station is at the busy intersection of Del Mar and Arroyo. Unlike a lot of other stops on the Gold Line, this station was designed as a destination in itself. There are apartment buildings around the tracks (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/del-mar-gold-line-station-pasadena?select=m1oF6W2XHtsvcBgMGkwu_g#bsnd0ad7nANJONy7ZPc6PQ) and several restaurants within that building including a pizza place that people apparently really like (I didn't find it all that great). The courtyard around the actual station is gorgeous with lots of brushed steel artwork and trees. It's a really gorgeous station and sometimes I would just come here for the heck of it. Parking: There is an underground parking garage with the entrance on the Raymond side. If you park here to get on the Gold Line, it's only $2 with I think an additional $4 or 6 if you park overnight. You have to actually give them your TAP card that has been tapped to prove that you parked here, so no fooling around. The garage also has parking for residents, so make sure you are in the correct zone to avoid a ticket. read more

I never thought subway stations could be pretty but that changed after seeing the Del Mar Gold Line Station. It's always tough to expect a station to be clean. Not only is this clean, but it really is a work of art. With the luxury apartments built around it, the hip, modern, artsty weld-work structuring the actual station and the adjacent businesses that draw in people who love their craft beers and quality pizza--Del Mar Gold Line is the cute hip girl who definately gets more attention (in my book) than the more obvious attention getting popular cheerleader in Union Station. If you ever ride the Gold Line and get off at Del Mar, you'll be hard pressed to go more than a block from the station itself. You have Le Grande Orange for dinner, the Otis Bar for a quality cocktail, the Stone Brewing Company to taste quality beer, Congregation Ale House to gastropub it and Central Park to safely pass out in after eating and imbibing (actually, I don't recommend passing out in Central Park). Plus, you can just people watch. On a sunny Sunday morning, Del Mar Gold Station is bustling with young couples, families, hipsters and the like. A fun place to feel the positive vibe of a crowd that doesn't want to waste a sunny day inside. It's also a good starting point for any fun weekend night in Downtown Pasadena. Get off at the Del Mar Gold Line. Have a light dinner at Le Grande Orange or share an organic pizza at Luggage Room Pizzeria. Sample some beers at Stone Brewing Company. Sample more beers and fries and wonderful dipping sauces and Congregation Alehouse (or have your meal there with one of their awesome gourmet burgers) and then take a short casual walk to Colorado and hop to the hippity hoppity places there. This station is so clean and nice. And it feels very safe. Just to park here and not use the Metro is $6 per day. First hour and a half is free and then $2 per hour after with a $6 max. Not sure if there is overnight parking. Only $2 if you use the Metro. Just a 10 min walk to the Hilton and Sheraton and all the shopping too. read more

Love it. Not only is it above ground and well lit, but it dumps you off at a great spot. You're less than a basketball court away from LGO (sangria that is so good you will make it disappear like abracadabra), the Luggage Room (stone oven pizza you won't want to share), Stone Brewing (delicious beer at distributor prices), Central Park (lawn bowling, anyone?), Congregation Ale House (mass is in session), and Houston's (if you want to get a little fancier and meatier). It's the Metro.. so that's why it gets two stars. But as far as Metro stops go, this is one of the best! The Gold Line is the nicest of the Metro lines. I wouldn't get on the Red or Purple.... ever. I did once and A homeless man sat next to me that smelled so bad that my eyes watered. Also, a fist fight broke out and I got kicked by one guy throwing another. Ghetttooo! So Gold Line is by the swankiest of these. Great for people watching! Interesting mix of people on this line- professionals, students and (usually) harmless homeless people. It's good to know that there are clean Metro stations! The Gold line is by far the best yet I've seen. The stations are modern and well kept, unlike any of the Blue line or most of the Green line stations. Del Mar: we had to wait for the train at night. It was cold and windy and it seemed like there was a wind tunnel coming off the tracks. I guess Metro can't help that, though. Overall, a nice station comparatively. Clean, easy to navigate station with an actual clock (finally!) and close to Old Town, Lake district...my apartment. There is an apartment complex built right on top (literally) of the train tracks...wouldn't want to live there among the clang-clang-clang of the Railroad Track lights and barricades... Very clean Metro station that puts you within walking distance, just south, of Old Pasadena and some awesome eats! This is the first Metro station where I've gotten the chance to walk across the Metro tracks (when there aren't any incoming trains, of course). Hopped on the Gold Line last night at this Del Mar Station and headed downtown to the Dodger game! (Took the Gold Line to Union Station, then the FREE and very convenient shuttle right up to the the stadium ticketing gates. It is overwhelmingly better than driving in traffic, paying an arm and a leg for parking, then walking a million miles to the stadium). The station is beautiful and very clean. Before we boarded the Gold Line we had a happy hour drink at the adorable La Grande Orange Cafe. The buzzing bar was open air and situated with a perfect view of the Metro station. I am a newbie to the Metro, but of the other stations I have seen, this Del Mar one is by far the most ascetically pleasing and clean. The only reason for for the missing 5th star is is the ticketing machine. It is relatively clear and easy to use, however it gives change for your bills in COINS only & actually allows you to put in ANY bill denomination. So, don't do what we did and insert a $20 for the $3 we owed and get back $17 in COINS. It was like I was back in Vegas and had hit is big on a slot machine. I was waiting for the streamers and balloons to come down. Can you imagine if we had put in a $50 or $100?.... tragic. We actually missed a train because we were so busy trying to collect our coins. ...... oops. Good thing they conveniently come around every 12 minutes.....hmm....just enough time to step over to La Grande Orange for another cocktail..... read more

This station is nice - new and clean. Parking is convenient. There's a parking structure next to the staton, $2 all day if you present your TAP card to the staff at the pay station, otherwise it's $6. There's also restaruants and shops nearby within walking distance if you're hungry or need to purchase a last minute gift. Boyfriend and I were going to a USC game at the LA Coliseum so we had to hopped on three different lines. We got the all day pass for $5 and additional $1 for the TAP card. This is my first time taking the Metro Rail and at first I was a bit skeptical about taking public transportation. But realizing that the drive to LA will be horrible and parking is not that much better (and not to mention expensive), thought that this would be the best way to get there, Overall, the experience was not too bad. I wouldn't mind taking the Metro again. read more

It's really close to a few restaurants (like Luggage Room Pizzeria, La Grande Orange, and Stone Brewing Company), and there are also apartment complexes here too, so it seems like a really convenient station compared to other stations. Parking was easy and plentiful for this clean, well-lit metro station. For metro newbies, don't forget to actually tap the TAP card! When you are leaving, hand the TAP card and your parking ticket to the attendant to pay $2 instead of the full price. This works as long as you've used the metro that day, even if you don't use it at the station for whatever reason. read more

Need a quick way to get to Union Station? Chinatown? The Gold Line is probably the best way to do it. Saving you time and money. 1. The Del Mar Station has a large parking structure. $2 for Metro customers all day (with proof of purchase...so print your receipt after reloading your card). Otherwise, it's $6 for the entire day. 2. It probably takes 20 minutes to get to Union Station and trains run approximately every 6 minutes. 3. $1.50 for one ride. And an additional $1 if you don't have your TAPcard on you. 4. Stone Brewery is conveniently located right next to the stop. 5. It's reasonably clean and safe. So obviously, the people who rate the Metro 2 stars and below have never really experienced what taking public transit is like or know what it's like outside of their bubble. 6. I dream of the day when cars are obsolete in Los Angeles and every part can be easily accessed by metro/public transportation. There are many misconceptions about public transportation but if you've ever had the pleasure of reading the Metro (Gold, Purple, Red etc) lines then you know none of those are true! Its actually very.....peaceful. You can sit back relax and people watch. One time i witnessed a man with a guitar seranade a young child with songs about ducks! You wont be able to find that anywhere other than on public transportation. here are many park and ride stations where you can pay a reduce rate when you take the gold line. Its only $2 to park ALL DAY! Its easily accessible. Pretty much any place in LA thats worth visiting is connected to a metro line. Downtown LA, Hollywood, Lil Tokyo, hell even the LBC all can be accessed through one system. Its super clean! You wont feel all dirty and slimy after riding on these bad boys. read more

Great station. It's kept very clean and it's right next to Le Grande Orange, the Luggage Room Pizzeria, and Sushi Kimagure. Parking here is pretty cheap too. First 90 minutes are free, and up to $6 max after that (I think it's $2 per hour after the free 90 minutes). Also, you can get your parking ticket validated here, which is a plus! Also, for those of you who are paranoid about late night traveling here, it's really safe with a police station right on location. read more

The Gold Line is one of the newer and nicer Metro lines in LA. And this station is probably the best one on the line. Super conveniently located immediately next to and within a short walk of a bunch of restaurants. For example: Congregation Ale House is immediately south across the street. Only about 25 minutes from Union Station, and trains run pretty regularly. The station also just looks cool. It's nestled underneath a newer apartment complex, with lots of cool art and such. read more
