Fillmore Gold Line Station - Just hanging around - Public Transportation Near Me - Pasadena, California

Fillmore Station is my go to station when starting out a Metro ride! It's not the closest station to me, but it is the closest FREE parking station! If I'm trying to save money and gas by taking the Metro, why not find a free lot while I'm at it? The entrance to the lot is located on Raymond, close to Fillmore (right across from Jones Coffee Roasters). Remember, all metro riders must park on the 4th or 5th floor! When you get out of the lot and head over to the train, you can also exit the opposite side's gate to get to the CVS in case you forgot anything before the ride! They've got a few TAP Card stations there to refill/purchase your card and go! It's an outdoor station and mainly goes on or above ground. I say this because the Red Line from Union travels underground so I never get reception! read more

(Parked 12/19/16 M @ 9:00am): Get in line for your fill at this golden station whether it be for parking or taking a ride! I found myself at the Fillmore Gold Line Station as the meeting point for a FREE bus shuttle ride for a recent event, the "YEE: San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino". This was my first time here and was absolutely unaware of this station. Finally, I began using the Metro on a regular basis, so I was very much a virgin of the many stops. Although I simply parked here this time, would this introduction somehow lead me back for more!?: Sandwiched between Raymond Ave. and the 110 S. Arroyo Parkway, vehicle entrance was available on Raymond Ave. only. The closest main throughfare was Fair Oaks Ave. a mere two blocks away. Along Raymond Ave. was the onsite Lovebirds Café & Bakery for a drink coffee, pastry, or smoothie fix, across the street was Jones Coffee Roasters for caffeine fiends, and Pie Life Pizza for a heartier meal...just to name a few. Across the tracks along the 110 S. Arroyo Parkway was Gotta Java for more caffeine addicts, My Vegan for some healthy fare, and Sushi Ichi for raw fish...also just to name a few. Hop on and explore eastward towards Azusa, or take it into Union Station in Downtown L.A. to continue towards East L.A. or transfer to either the Purple or Red (the Blue and Green Lines, respectively, connected from the Purple/Red Lines) Lines which took you to various parts around Los Angeles county https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=5-d384Roi4MwWvz1-URW9Q&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw. Service - Ummm...you pulled up to the ticket machine, selected either "public parking" or used your TAP card for "Metro", found a spot (there was another driveway arm on Levels 4-5 for Metro users that required a TAP card to pass through), either took the elevator or stairs to the ground floor, and off you went on your way. When you returned, you did the exact reverse. But in the case of non-Metro users, you paid before you exited the structure. Easy-peasy! Parking (Varied; $12.00 All-Day this instance) - This was a five-story structure where Levels 1-3 were for public parking (240 spaces; $12.00 maximum) and Levels 4-5 were for the Metro (160 spaces; FREE). Conveniently, there was an electronic sign that showed how many Metro parking spots were available. Sadly, I left my TAP card at home and was stuck with being charged. I noticed a nearby pay lot that "quoted $5.00" but unsure for how long. And, it appeared there may've been other parking options in the area. But I basically said "eff it" and bit the bullet. Lesson learned for the next time... Atmosphere, décor, ambience - A tall spacious metal covered structure with viewpoints from every level and plenty of both natural and electric lighting guided you through. The station itself was an above-ground track that ran between the backside of businesses, had covered waiting areas on the platform, and was in very close proximity to a couple places for a quick drink or snack. There were no TVs (except for schedule monitors) nor background music (the whiz of the train was rather melodic). Attire - Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the Fillmore Gold Line Station with its relative proximity to a few places I frequented, as well as others I wouldn't mind trying. Its location was a healthy walking distance to the Huntington Memorial Hospital and other medical facilities, so this was an ideal spot for commuters who worked in the area. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $12.00; no tipping required). Pretty surprised I haven't reviewed this stop on the Gold Line, it's where we take the Metro to downtown and elsewhere when leaving from the Pasadena area. We park on P5 in the structure and have never had an issue purchasing or re loading our TAP cards here. Great way to avoid traffic and parking fees! We usually ride this line into Union Station and transfer from there. I'd definitely recommend going Metro when possible, we've taken it several times to large sporting events, Kings games at Staples, DTLA bar crawls with friends to avoid DUIs, Science Center and most recently to volunteer at USC for the Special Olympics World Games. Of course it's inevitable that you'll encounter some sketch people but there are also normal folks just trying to get around town too. Ok, I know this isn't food, but I feel compelled to write this entry. As a native socal resident, I've always been taught that public transportation just can't work in LA. I've been riding the light rail, Metrolink, and Amtrak a lot in the past year and trying out the public transport in other cities and I have to say that the system in LA, although sparse, is so much better than older, more established infrastructure. It's really just an island between the two tracks with some benches. Not super exciting, but perhaps that's a good thing. It's incredibly safe and CLEAN, something I can't say about a lot of other light rail stations around the country. I like to park here and then take it into Chinatown or Little Tokyo so I don't have to worry about my car at my destination, how much gas I'm going to use, or crashing on the 110. Parking: This nice thing about the Fillmore station is that there is a FREE parking structure right next to it if you use the Metro. This is just a little down the street from the Del Mar Station so you can save $2 if you want to drive the extra couple of blocks. You have to enter the garage from Raymond so don't be a noob like me and think there will be a way to get there through the CVS parking lot on Arroyo. I don't think you can park here overnight unlike the Del Mar station (although you have to pay to do this). read more

I love Fillmore Station! It's always clean and well kept, and there's plenty of eateries and a grocery and drug store near by. From here, you can go to Downtown LA or Old Town Pasadena (which is a stop away). The area is quiet and there's always some sort of security around. The trains run very smoothly and quietly, not to mention there's AC inside of them. The exit is a little bit confusing at first though, make a right! lol read more

DO NOT PARK HERE!!! IT'S VERY UNSAFE! A quick trip home from DTLA and I decided to get off here and meet a friend who parked in the lot. The area is dirty and there is drug use out in the open. There are (possibly homeless) people that will harass you and make you feel afraid as you walk to your car or train. I will avoid this stop next time. read more

The area is nice, the platform was clean, and one of the first things you spot when you're coming into this stop is a STARBUCKS. Let's see... what else was within walking distance: Staples Car Wash Whole Foods and a couple of restaurants. That's all I got. read more

It's a nice and new looking station. It seems safe during the day and night. It's next to a starbucks so if you wanted to kill some time, or you need a coffee fix then it's pretty nice. I noticed that the parking there is limited. By 7;00 am there are about 70 space left. But by 8:15 or so it's more like 7 spaces. So the only bad part is the limited parking in the structure. There is also limited street parking as well. Not sure what the restrictions are. read more

No Frills Gold Line stop it is very convenient to go one way or the other sometimes though the other tap machine is not working I guess from heavy use and or abuse but it's a good little station and I give it 5 Stars if the Machinery was working more often read more

The Gold Line is generally great, but this station has super sketch people (along with the CVS right next door). A lot of panhandlers and transient folks who look like they're high. Haven't had any violent encounters, but be aware of others and your surroundings. UPDATE- Not even one day after my post, I see an email come through my inbox saying the Gold Line is temporarily closed due to a victim being stabbed in the face at the Filmore station! read more

Most of these stars were earned by having the balls to open a coffee shop so close to Jones' Coffee. This place is closer to my campus (Art Center) so we decided to take a walk to try it out. Fillmore is noticeably a 'cold' place- not in temperature, but just, unwelcoming. The workers are just that, the decor is just bare minimum, there's no music playing, and the coffee isn't bad. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt that they're still ironing out the negatives, so I'll give it another try in a month or two. OH, and one huge plus is they're nicely stocked with Fosselman's ice cream! I'll keep this in mind when the sun starts kicking in. read more

The parking lot says full even though there are still spots open for the metro parking. If you take the wrong ticket for parking then they will charge you retail price. The woman at the parking lot checkout will make you pay even if you show proof of metro use if you take the wrong ticket. They say that's how the metro designed it so you may be better off parking at Del Mar station for $2 when lot says full in the afternoon (even though it's not). I felt cheated $5 for parking there to use the metro. read more

Parking at this stations is REALLY confusing. It's among these other paid lots, and the actual parking structure shows paid rates and seems to be a parking garage for medical services. I just came here today, on a Saturday, and the garage wasn't open. I'm guessing that it's not functional on weekends. Took me awhile to figure which one was the garge though. I ended up parking on the street - there are spots on Raymond and Arroyo Parkway. I walked in before taking the Metro to see what signs said, and you can park for free if you have proof of a Metro ticket purchased the same day. read more

The gold line is the best line in LA. This is mostly because it's still really new. The stations are all placed in convenient locations. The Fillmore station has free parking on the adjacent building on 4th and 5th floor. They don't have elevators so expect to climb the stairs when you come back. The cars on the gold line are new and air conditioned. So much better than the red line. read more

Security didn't do anything when some lady yelled at me as I waited for the Gold Line here, blaming me for the Vietnam War or something. They just asked to talk to her over the phone. There aren't usually many people using this station. This is not park and ride. You'll have to walk an industrial block from the Arts Bus stop at the Art Center South Campus. read more

There's a Starbucks and a Subway right by the station on Arroyo, and free parking is available on the 4th-5th level of a parking structure on Raymond. Very nice station to catch the Metro Gold Line if you want to avoid parking Downtown or elsewhere. When I parked though at the structure on a Wednesday late afternoon, the electronic sign on the structure stated FULL. I double checked with the attendant, and she told me there's plenty of spaces. So double check before driving away. read more

Depending on time, this is either a so so or good awful stop. Next to cvs in south Pasadena (?) Kids from the local hs often create a jam during this stop. Nothing against them. Just don't like feeling like a cramped chicken in a can. read more

this station does have its perks like free parking and it's starbucks adjacent but the stations itself is a little bland and boring. i mean it does the job and i guess not every station has to be a canvas for an artist to do their thing but it's hard to just sit here with nothing to look at when there are other stations that are so cool and fun to be at, like the memorial park station or mariachi plaza. i guess i shouldn't complain too much, it's clean and theres a few benches but it should be noted that the gold line was being weird last night and they made the passengers on my train get off and wait for the following train to take us the rest of the way. and when it's late at night and you just wanna go home, this is extremely annoying. read more

Love the seating on the platform. They have Replicas of luggage for us to sit and when there's a nice breeze I don't even care if the train comes or not hahah. So cute and such a relief when waiting for the GL. There is a Starbucks,Subway and CVS next door too! read more

Customer service upgrade! My ticket in the Metro level 4 kiosk did not work so the gate did not go up. I went down to the main parking kiosk and explained the problem. Thank goodness the nice woman was working, not the mean old man. She called security and the officer saw my ticket was defective and could not be read. He helped the gate open and then when I went to the exit kiosk, ticket did not work again! Thank goodness it was stamped at 6:17am and was stamped at the Metro level. These folks were amazing! My husband and I had a horrible experience here a few days ago. I'm in a wheelchair. We were going to Ballard's Artwork Framing with a huge photo, and were told we could use the Fillmore Gold Line Station parking. So here I am, balancing this photo on my feet as my husband is pushing the wheelchair toward the elevator. We finally get to the elevator and, lo and behold, there's a sign on the elevator door: out of order! Why did they not post a sign on the entrance to the parking structure? Also, when we left, a woman working there said the elevator had been out for 3 days. We were not happy. Not only that--the signage was very unclear about how to exit the structure. So between the elevator fiasco and the poor signage, we were in the structure for about 1/2 hour. We totally gave up on Ballard's, as well. That's definitely not a good place for a disabled person to bring a large photo. This whole experience reminded me of that Kingston Trio song, The MTA (Did He Ever Return?). read more

Having used this station for years now, I felt it time to review my experiences here. The two stars are entirely for the effort that the Sheriff's deputies put forth in trying to keep this station safe and free of the sketchy people that congregate all around. I thank you! The three blank stars represent how sad and pathetic this station is. I am here daily as it's only a 4 minute walk from my apartment. Every week, you can count on a fight between the homeless next to the station breaking out, tons of pot being smoked, and vomit on the station platform (the custodians deserve badges and 6 figure salaries for cleaning this place!) Many times, I choose to walk an additional 10 minutes to Del Mar station just to avoid the unfortunate ugly scenes that take place. I don't blame Metro for my poor review. I blame our City Council for not apparently caring about what goes on in District 6 south of Old Town Pasadena. And what genius decided to erect a park full of benches next to the station? Parked on the 5th floor, got what I thought was a 2nd ticket and still had to pay $12 to park. Was advised by the parking attendant that I needed to scan my ticket at the metro gate on my way out. I didn't scan my ticket because the gate was already up. Parking attendant said the gate was broken. SMDH read more

This is a nicer and newer station. It's very close to Starbucks, Subway Sandwiches, CVS and some other stores. There isn't a lot here or a lot to this station, but it's pretty typical in that it has handicapped access, a pay phone or two, an overhang and some security cameras. The Los Angeles Metro Train goes north and south from this Pasadena station. read more

This station has the worst attendant. I parked on the 4th floor for the metro and when i left, they made me pay $4.00. The lady at the exit was like i don't work for metro so we ended having to pay it. Avoid this place as much as you can. Park on the street or try the station parking near Stone brewery in Pasadena. When I come to town, I usually enjoy using this station to ride the metro but am now thinking it is too isolated after my vehicle got vandalized last Saturday (used the metro to go to Opera on the Beach and now I really regret it). Noticed some graffiti on the building behind the station (CVS?) as I exited the train and when I got to my vehicle which was parked directly across the street on Raymond, found someone had scraped it with a sharp object all over its body (deep, can't be buffed out). One problem is the station is too dark and there is hardly anyone around at night - saw a Pasadena PD vehicle on Del Mar but not down there. My college aged daughter has had problems with cat callers etc. when she tried to come out by her self a couple of times. I don't have that problem but now am unsure what to do in the future. Know my car would have been safer with me in Santa Monica - so taking the Metro was not the best idea. Feel totally crappy every time I look at it. The garage is a problem to me at the station. Don't like the garage since the guy downstairs who runs the lot but has nothing to do with the Metro is really brusque and always says there are no spaces even though there are (one time the gate was malfunctioning and we had to turn around and backtrack the 4 levels, when we got there, the machine tried to charge us $2 - the guy said we only had 5 minutes to exit and there were no spaces up there anyway (we saw empty spaces)). I can understand if the Metro parking is not his job, then it is should not be his concern but think Metro needs to rethink that situation then. At any rate, usually try to avoid such problems by parking on the street - guess I will have to throw in the towel and drive (METRO we need more feeder buses going up to Altadena - never parked anywhere but in Altadena in the 80's and 90's before the trains came in and my vehicles were safe). read more

Clean, convenient, right next to a Cvs and Starbucks and strip mall. Love it. Used to get off here on my way to work from LA

The station itself is plain, next to a CVS and Starbucks. Not a whole lot to walk to - Arts Center South Campus, Huntington Hospital, El Cholo (yay for fresh guac!). However, it gets four stars as a good commuter station. There is a parking structure with an entrance on Raymond Ave with supposedly 131 parking spots though some of them require a monthly permit (forget it - there is a waiting list for these). The majority of parking spots are free, just pull a yellow "Metro" parking ticket upon entering the garage and you will not be charged to park there. Spaces are limited - arrive by 8am at the very latest Monday-Thursday to get a free spot (7:45 would be safer). Fridays tend to be relatively light. There is a red LED screen indicating the number of free Metro spots left at the entrance of the parking structure. Free Metro spots are on floor 4 and 5 only. There is an elevator at the far corner of the structure away from the station or stairs next the station. I haven't been here at night but it seems relatively safe. If free spots are not available, just drive down the street to Del Mar Station ($2/day with paid proof of Metro ticket). Minus one star for limited parking availability. read more

Great metro access but parking lot was unattended and machine didn't read our metro parking ticket so charged us TEN dollars instead of zero--- no call attendant to help either :( .
