    Fillmore Station

Ok, I know this isn't food, but I feel compelled to write this entry. As a native socal resident, I've always been taught that public transportation just can't work in LA. I've been riding the light rail, Metrolink, and Amtrak a lot in the past year and trying out the public transport in other cities and I have to say that the system in LA, although sparse, is so much better than older, more established infrastructure. Station: The station itself is pretty boring (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/fillmore-gold-line-station-pasadena?select=DWTBngB2wC2_XF1pcFxgeg#O8VULFn6PYiTEvn1w3aJag, http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/fillmore-gold-line-station-pasadena?select=DWTBngB2wC2_XF1pcFxgeg#2bgoYOcf7IJ6yDos75ThDg). It's really just an island between the two tracks with some benches. Not super exciting, but perhaps that's a good thing. It's incredibly safe and CLEAN, something I can't say about a lot of other light rail stations around the country. I like to park here and then take it into Chinatown or Little Tokyo so I don't have to worry about my car at my destination, how much gas I'm going to use, or crashing on the 110. Parking: This nice thing about the Fillmore station is that there is a FREE parking structure right next to it if you use the Metro. This is just a little down the street from the Del Mar Station so you can save $2 if you want to drive the extra couple of blocks. You have to enter the garage from Raymond so don't be a noob like me and think there will be a way to get there through the CVS parking lot on Arroyo. I don't think you can park here overnight unlike the Del Mar station (although you have to pay to do this).

I love Fillmore Station! It's always clean and well kept, and there's plenty of eateries and a grocery and drug store near by. From here, you can go to Downtown LA or Old Town Pasadena (which is a stop away). The area is quiet and there's always some sort of security around. The trains run very smoothly and quietly, not to mention there's AC inside of them. The exit is a little bit confusing at first though, make a right! lol

The area is nice, the platform was clean, and one of the first things you spot when you're coming into this stop is a STARBUCKS. Let's see... what else was within walking distance: Staples Car Wash Whole Foods and a couple of restaurants. That's all I got.

You gotta get there early to park atop ... You get there past 7:45, you're not getting a spot. It's a nice little perk for metro riders.

If I'm trying to save money and gas by taking the Metro, why not find a free lot while I'm at it?

I bought my ticket on Ticketmaster for $12.50 each but they sold tickets there on the spot for $10 (I paid the transaction fee online). I do believe you need cash and exact change from what I saw though. Buses are hit or miss, you either take the older school bus looking buses or you might strike gold taking the huge charter buses. It's completely random but overall it was a 30-40 minute ride so not bad. Shuttle Return - They gave me a ticket per person as admission for the return travel. It's $15 if you lose this ticket so DO NOT lose it. They did a great job telling everyone how to find the bus back and really had no issues loading and returning home. Just be sure to get back to the buses before 25 minutes after the concert. (This is honestly pretty reasonable I probably got back in 10-15) Parking was safe with a security guard as well as FREE when you park on the 3rd level or above. I would recommend this option when going to the Hollywood bowl for a cheaper and efficient way to get there.

It's well kept and easy to access, has kiosks for purchasing and reloading physical TAP cards and a fair amount of benches/seating spaced out as well as trash cans/waste bins and signage to help guild you via maps, digital screens displaying arrival times for the East or West Bound side and some cool designs throughout making it feel very local. My big problem is over the past 10 years, even with improvements the West Bound side continues to experience a ridiculous number of delays and issues. Recently I saw 3 trains for the Eastbound side go by within the span of half an hour while waiting for the West, it was the worst deja vu because it happened in 2015, 2016, 2018, 2021 and now here again today. I have taken it Westbound with zero issue once. To top it off the train I was on had major issues, possibly do to another cart on the track, safety concern or something from the moment we took off. It kept at the slowest pace for three stations stops, eerily so and then came to a complete stop for several minutes where I saw another Eastbound train go by O.O - NO ANNOUNCEMENT whatsoever. I was running later than I wanted to for meeting up in Highland Park. It made me realize boarding here isn't the best, at least not for me. Eventually the train was moving and functioning normal the remainder I was on which was less than a minute as I was only going four stops, guuuuurl... Do better. The Gold Line is arguably the cleanest, and the train on which you're least likely to get tuberculosis of the rainbow lines. Weekday commuters use the train to get into LA, or to Inion station where the red line, for example, connects with Mid-Wilshire, etc. If you live or park near the Allen station (watch the neighborhood signs restricting parking without a permit, or park a block or two away where there are no signs) you can easily catch the train to Old Town Pasadena, the village area of South Pasadena, or go get some Mu Shu pork in Chinatown. Great for folks who don't mind walking a bit, or who like to have a few adult beverages and don't want to risk a DUI. All riders now must have a TAP card (purchase and reload at the kiosks) or a pass... No more paper tickets. While chances are you'll never have an incident on any public transportation vehicle, there are still the occasional weirdos, people with chronic coughs and poorly dressed wounds, the costume people, homeless folks in desperate need of a shower.
