I am a big fan of the Gold Line. It seems safe, and its clean. And it gets you where you want to go from downtown LA all the way to the edge of Sierra Madre and Arcadia - (and soon all the way to Azusa). The Lake Street station in Pasadena is situated in the median in the middle of the 210 highway. If you walk south 4 blocks you will be about 8 blocks east of Old Pasadena, but not far from a few shops and restaurants as well as The Paseo, a large shopping mall. There are also 3 movie theaters and The Pasadena Playhouse within walking distance. If you walk north of the station a few blocks you will reach The Hat, a fast food pastrami sandwhich place: so I would reccomend going south.

As an SGV native, I'm very grateful that we now have a burgeoning public transportation system, but this station (as with a few others in Pasadena) are right in the middle of a freeway. Can't complain, but it is a bit louder than I care for. The walk down onto the platform could also use a decent cleaning, but hey -gotta love it. Love you Pasadena ~

These guys get five stars because you should write something on what it does not on what it doesn't and for what it does it does it well. It's a place where you get on or get off the Gold Line and it does that. It's not expressly dirty and there's no true ugliness there although I wish there were bathrooms but like I said they have to be rated for what they do do not for what they don't.

About to take off!

It's central to a lot of things so it's super convenient. Though picking up from there is a nightmare. But that's because of traffic.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic Assoc (LAPhil) operates the HB venue. I didn't know some events are sponsored by the LAPhil, others are rented out to outside agencies and have different methods to purchase concert and transportation tickets. I tried to get a transportation ticket for Arcadia Park, but it was not on the list. I called the Box Office and was told Arcadia and Rowland Heights are only available for LAPhil events. I am writing this review so others who live in the Eastern part of LA County will know Pasadena is the best option (when Arcadia or Rowland Heights is not available). The cost was $12.45 for a round-way ticket and includes the price of parking at the Pasadena structure. You must park on Level 3 or 4, walk down to Ramona Street and the HB bus will be waiting at the time designated on your ticket (4:30, 5:30 or 6PM). The bus was clean, it took about 45 minutes to arrive. The bus dropped us off in Lot B, and will take you back to Pasadena 20 minutes after the show ends. It was a good experience, the price was a good deal! NOTE: You can take a chance and buy a ticket the day of the event at the bus stop, but if it is full, you will have to drive all the way to the HB. Save yourself a headache and buy in advance! Today, it's Memorial Park - home of the Gold Station and Old Town Pasadena... but what next? Tomorrow will it be Six Flags? Will it be San Francisco Bay Bridge? Who knows, Fred C. Who knows. I for one had no problems here on the WEEKEND when subway and light rail run the most stingently and erratic. It takes you only a street away from the action - right to Hooters, right to the Container store, right to Lula Mae's, right to Lush, right to H and M, right to Urban Outfitters, and a whole bunch of other places! Really, this is ideal if you're looking for a nice day out in Old Town Pasadena. No parking, no worries, no mess!

It's well kept and easy to access, has kiosks for purchasing and reloading physical TAP cards and a fair amount of benches/seating spaced out as well as trash cans/waste bins and signage to help guild you via maps, digital screens displaying arrival times for the East or West Bound side and some cool designs throughout making it feel very local. My big problem is over the past 10 years, even with improvements the West Bound side continues to experience a ridiculous number of delays and issues. Recently I saw 3 trains for the Eastbound side go by within the span of half an hour while waiting for the West, it was the worst deja vu because it happened in 2015, 2016, 2018, 2021 and now here again today. I have taken it Westbound with zero issue once. To top it off the train I was on had major issues, possibly do to another cart on the track, safety concern or something from the moment we took off. It kept at the slowest pace for three stations stops, eerily so and then came to a complete stop for several minutes where I saw another Eastbound train go by O.O - NO ANNOUNCEMENT whatsoever. I was running later than I wanted to for meeting up in Highland Park. It made me realize boarding here isn't the best, at least not for me. Eventually the train was moving and functioning normal the remainder I was on which was less than a minute as I was only going four stops, guuuuurl... Do better. Go Metro, but have an alternative or two.

The Gold Line is arguably the cleanest, and the train on which you're least likely to get tuberculosis of the rainbow lines. Weekday commuters use the train to get into LA, or to Inion station where the red line, for example, connects with Mid-Wilshire, etc. If you live or park near the Allen station (watch the neighborhood signs restricting parking without a permit, or park a block or two away where there are no signs) you can easily catch the train to Old Town Pasadena, the village area of South Pasadena, or go get some Mu Shu pork in Chinatown. Great for folks who don't mind walking a bit, or who like to have a few adult beverages and don't want to risk a DUI. All riders now must have a TAP card (purchase and reload at the kiosks) or a pass... No more paper tickets. While chances are you'll never have an incident on any public transportation vehicle, there are still the occasional weirdos, people with chronic coughs and poorly dressed wounds, the costume people, homeless folks in desperate need of a shower. There's that loud group of IDGAF teen gangstas from time to time. Essentially, many of the folks that are too strange for the DMV? They're going Metro! If you don't mind the adventure, it's actually an outstanding people watching venue. The Allen station is outdoors and you have to make sure you don't miss the trains when they pull up... They go farther forward on the platform than would seem convenient, so be prepared to run, or move to the end of the platform when you seethe train coming. Try waving at cars going by to pass the time.

The downside is some stinkiness and sketch characters. You will need a TAP card ($2) and each trip is $1.75/trip or $5/day cap or $18/week cap. It's definitely a good deal for someone who live in the area or travelers to get around without renting a car.
