I usually go on a 2 to 3 mile walk once a week or so along the bike path from Van Nuys Station and this is usually my destination point before turning around or feeling it in my legs and catching the Orange Line back to wear I started. I've worked up the street from here in the past (even earlier this year before switching to remote) and would often board or dock here off Burbank. Being the Valley College stop... A lot of people usually get on and/or get off here... It's a great stop for connecting with the DASH or other municipal buses nearby (though not many)... and as the third to last stop before NoHo Station it serves as a great source of public transportation for the area. It's pretty cool that both Pierce and Valley have Orange Line stops/locations... One of the only downsides is from Woodman to Laurel Canyon Stations there isn't any parking for people in the area... Possibly due to being more residential than other stops...

I regularly take this station every week to get to LA Valley College. It has never failed me, takes me here from the North Hollywood station within 8-12 minutes which compared to other bus routes is commendable. It's outdoor so of course, during the night, it will get chilly. But ladies, rest assured, I was here alone many nights and I was never once approached, never once harrassed, never once bothered. I just sat at my little seat and listened to my iPod or read a book. The bus runs really late here, and unfortunately when my class gets out I'm not in time for the often-run rush hour period. But waiting eight to ten minutes is fine when you time it right. There's an electronic board which tells you how close a bus is and how many minutes away it is. By no means, like anything else, is it perfect, but right by Sharky's, Glatt's Market, a couple of Thai and donut places, and a college - how close is that to perfection? Disregard any outrageously negative review you see that doesn't go into detail as to why it deserved less than three stars.

Currently the end of the Purple/D Line route (at least until 2025) - Wilshire/Western Station is not only a huge connecting hub to lots of great spaces, but also local metro routes. One of the cleanest stations, easy to use and access - attendants/metro staff is always chill and friendly. The escalators are usually working here compared to others that can go down from time to time as well as the elevators. You can purchase a pass at one of several terminals for $1 and either add stored value ($.175 each way with transfers), daily (day pass) and/or monthly riding. Discounts for students, seniors and income based fares as well. No parking at this station directly, however definitely plenty of connections.

Originally opening in 1996 as the final station of the LA Metro Purple Line (now officially the D…read moreline), Wilshire/Western is an underground station 50 - 70 feet below ground. It serves as one of the primary stations for Koreatown, and one I've used a multitude of times. There is a large open air plaza right above, making its entrance easy to recognize, but also serving as a magnet for vagrants. It is close to a variety of businesses (mostly Korean) that we frequent. It has served as the end of the very short D Line for a long time (and thus both sides of the platform has trains going to the same place), but will lose that title once the D Line extension (taking it all the way to UCLA) is done. The next segment will open in May 2026, going to Beverly Hills, then Century City, then finally to Westwood. One thing to note is I noticed the use of train cars with a different configuration that I'm used to on LA Metro. Instead of having seats facing forward/backward four across, this configuration has a lot more seats up against the wall, eliminating having to sit where someone could be right behind you. Learned that this is called 'New York-style' bench seating: there is a lot less sitting space, but more capacity for each car overall, with the majority of people standing. Definitely more useful for lines with more frequent stops contributing to shorter ride times.

I timed the stops, between each stop it was about one to two minutes and each stop was 30 seconds. The Beverly Hills station was very clean and nice with very cool art. I think it was from the movie theater that's up the block. I wish they had put more older early days pictures of Beverly Hills instead of just the interior of movie theater. Multiple times cops came in and checked for tickets, which I appreciate. There were noticebly more police officers and security guards as the train got closer to Beverly Hills. They did a great job. The only reason this loses one star was the difficulty in getting a card. I just wanted two tickets and the only choices were a $20 card or loading your info into Metro App. But then another passenger said they got card for the right amount of fair. So maybe it is possible I did not know.

The Project, funded by Proposition R, does have enough money to make it ... chug-chug ... to the VA Hospital, more or less. Or is that to Century City ..cough-cough ... Or maybe it's only as far as Wilshire & La Cienega .. grrr. Well anyhow, it does have the wherewithall, once coupled with Federal Funds, to make it as far as the Tar Pits where it will sink below Mammoths, Saber Tooth Tigers, and Jackson Pollock to surface shiny and un-blackened at the proposed Wilshire & Fairfax Station; the closest one can come to a sure thing in the far off world of future transportation planning. Keep your culture hard-on in your pants art lovers. Although LACMA is highly supportive of this Station, in fact hosting some of Metro's meetings, don't think there will be a long escalator ride ascending to a sculpture garden by the time you generously re-up your expiring museum membership. Let me put this into perspective: as we are just a day into this new decade, don't expect to disembark here for at least another full decade. Well, 2019 actually, but delays are the one thing in life you can count on. If you want to get to UCLA, think 2036, and if you want to get to the Pier, think great grandchildren. Metro held multiple meetings all over the "West" side this Fall. The Westside excluded Santa Monica. A few meetings were held as much as 2 years prior, to discuss various routings and station possibilities. They asked for input from commuters and potential commuters. I attended 2 meetings in October and November, and a previous meeting about 18 months ago. Comments from commuters were severely channeled toward what had already been predetermined. It's not like Valley riders could just suggest sh*t like they wanted a subway from Encino to Venice. Translators were provided at each meeting, but for the most part sat idly by. The Latino ridership .... the base .... did not show up in proportion to their use of public transport. Those few Latinos who did attend were well educated, and actually native speakers of English. Although meetings were well-attended, Russian and Korean translators stood by, not having to earn their money. I don't know if the Beverly Hills & Westwood meetings provided Farsi translators as I didn't attend those. I always find it amusing when translators are provided for people who know how to speak 8 languages fluently, and speak English better than I do myself. * * * * * * If you have no interest in public transportation you can stop reading here. Perhaps you already fell asleep at the wheel before you reached this point. For the detail minded see below: Here are just some of the points that surfaced at the Metro meetings: * The Purple Line Extension will be built in what Metro refers to as Minimum Operable Segments. The first segment (MOS 1) west is not sure to include a Crenshaw/Wilshire stop, but quite sure to have stations at Wilshire/La Brea & Wilshire/Fairfax. * This will be a subway, not light-rail. * Federal criteria on ridership levels must be met to receive Federal Funding. * Environmental Impact Studies are not yet complete. When finished, it will take about another year to complete engineering design, prepare bid documents & award construction contracts. * Based on this schedule, construction of the subway could begin in 2013. Notice that it says 'could'. * Measure R is the source of funding. It allocates money to a variety of transportation projects throughout the County over that time period. It's funds are not entirely available for the westbound subway. * The cost estimates are based on 2008 Dollars. * Parking at Stations: They are leaning away from providing parking. Land values in the path of the subway are high, and the purpose is to get people out of their cars. In some areas that already have parking, it remains a possibility. Free parking? In your dreams. * Cyclists will be able to transport their bikes. * MOS 2 (Year 2026) would extend to Century City. MOS 3 (Year 2036) would extend to Westwood/I-405 with stations being evaluated at UCLA & the VA Hospital. * West Hollywood Connecting Line: A line that would extend the Red Line westward from Hollywood-Highland, running down Santa Monica Blvd. No money presently exists for this line. * No money. Zero.. . exists to get from the 405 to the Sea. * As things stand now, a subway to the City of Santa Monica & the City of West Hollywood are way out there in some nebulous future. Located just east/right of the closest main traffic light intersection at Oxnard St / Woodman Avenue... It has one of the more wider and clearer walk and protected divider bike paths along the Orange Line path. I've definitely gone on some nice night and get out of the house strolls (frequently in 2020 to 2022) here and have stopped off at a few spots close by or transferred over the years. Close to small shops, business, places to eat, convenience markets like 7-Eleven, Confetti Liquor and even the Chevron on the Northwest corner of the predominant intersection. You can reloaded and purchase an LA Metro Tap card on either side or direction of travel with easy access. Like some of the Metro Rail Stations you won't find parking, but will at the previous stops including Van Nuys and Sepulveda Stations and at the North Hollywood Station... Three stops after Woodman. You can also connect with the Van Nuys/ Studio City LADOT DASH and a few street metro busses like the 158 and 154.

It's well kept and easy to access, has kiosks for purchasing and reloading physical TAP cards and a fair amount of benches/seating spaced out as well as trash cans/waste bins and signage to help guild you via maps, digital screens displaying arrival times for the East or West Bound side and some cool designs throughout making it feel very local. My big problem is over the past 10 years, even with improvements the West Bound side continues to experience a ridiculous number of delays and issues. Recently I saw 3 trains for the Eastbound side go by within the span of half an hour while waiting for the West, it was the worst deja vu because it happened in 2015, 2016, 2018, 2021 and now here again today. I have taken it Westbound with zero issue once. To top it off the train I was on had major issues, possibly do to another cart on the track, safety concern or something from the moment we took off. It kept at the slowest pace for three stations stops, eerily so and then came to a complete stop for several minutes where I saw another Eastbound train go by O.O - NO ANNOUNCEMENT whatsoever. I was running later than I wanted to for meeting up in Highland Park. It made me realize boarding here isn't the best, at least not for me. Eventually the train was moving and functioning normal the remainder I was on which was less than a minute as I was only going four stops, guuuuurl... Do better. Go Metro, but have an alternative or two.

It's free and just south of the train staion and is accessible by your cell phone.
