DeFazio's has great pizza. If you're looking for NY-style pizza, this is not the place to go to. However, the pizza they do put out is delicious in its own right. The crust is crunchy from the wood-fired oven, and the taste of the sauce is the right balance of sweetness from the tomatoes and savory herbs. One of the downsides is trying to get a pie on a weekend evening. I was warned about the long wait time by a friend, so as we were having Friday happy hour drinks at a nearby bar, we called in our order to DeFazio's. They quoted us about a 2 hour wait time, which is ridiculous if you're starving and need a pizza right away, but is great if you're taking the time to chill at your favorite Troy hangout spot and can anticipate being hungry for pizza a couple of hours later. The timing turned out to be perfect, and as we got to the store, the guys there were able to accommodate a table and served us a wonderful dinner. I've been to the restaurant on a separate occasion, on a weekday after work. They took about 20 minutes to make my pie, so it is not always necessary to time your order so far in advance. My advice would be to just have awareness of the popular dinner hours and prep in advance. read more

My last review is pretty dated so I figure it's time I post an update. The pizza is still as fantastic as it was when I wrote my last review. I'm still a fan of their whole wheat crust and they're becoming my go to place for a red sauce and cheese pizza. I would order from them more, but when we're in a hurry and just want to do have a quick pizza night, Defazio's delivery service can take a very long time. As for the pasta dishes, I'm a fan of those too. The cajun chicken alfredo is very tasty and has some spice to it, which is something new for me when it comes to a pasta dish. The alfredo sauce isn't goopy, which I like. I'm not a fan of pasta swimming in heavy, cheesy alfredo. At Defazio's it's enough to coat the pasta and catch a little pocket of extra sauce here and there, while eating it. Little extra cheesy, sauce pocket presents, yum! They have an excellent red sauce, it's a little more seasoned, robust, and less sweet then I usually find in restaurants around here. I also like the half marinara/half alfredo sauce they make, it's comes on the fettucine rosario. The pasta itself, whatever type I've gotten is obviously homemade. It's the kind of thing, I picture there being a super secret recipe for. The pizza is amazing. Get a table and bring a bottle or several of your favorite adult beverages and your night is made. Multiple crusts to choose from. Amazingly fresh toppings. And damn... I grew up outside of Philly and I could swear to you by personality and food sense that this family were my neighbors. However Troy can definitely muscle up against not only the best pizzas but the best personalities. If you don't like this place it might be because you're just not a fun person. Oh, how much I love DeFazio's! I love them so much I made my husband go out and get me a Buffalo Chicken pizza in a snow storm for my birthday! The place is small so think twice about eating in - best bets are Saturday afternoon. There's only 3 or 4 tables so it can be hit or miss. There's no beer or wine but I've seen a few people bring their own. It's cash only, which is fine with me, but you should be prepared. They've got 2 sizes of pizza - 12" and 16", the 12 is a little much for 1 and the 16 is a little small for 3 but that just means plan ahead and have leftovers. They've got a variety of crust and toppings, you can go for one of their specialty pies or create your own. All of them are outstanding but my favorites are the buffalo and the capriccio. They've also got a few pasta dishes made with homemade pasta. The servings are enough for 2 or even 3 and are delicious. I've never had their salads or calzones but I imagine they're just as good. I hear the wait is long in the evenings and delivery is tough but since I live way to far for delivery I opt for my husband to pick up a pie "par-baked and uncut". That way he can pick it up on his way home and I can throw it on my pizza stone and finish it off. A bonus for me - they're now at the Empire State Plaza a couple of times a week. I pick up a couple of Stromboli's at lunch time and when I get home I throw them on the pizza stone for a quick and tasty dinner. read more

I've had DeFazio's pizza a few times at family get-togethers. It's always been fantastic. I recently met up with a friend I haven't seen in 40 years. He's a business owner in Troy. The most scrumptious pepper, onion and sausage pizza found it's way to me. One bite of that flavorful combination sent my tastebuds reeling with joy! When I think of good pizza, I think of a thin, crispy crust with just the right amount of toppings , so as not to overload and make the entire pizza soggy. One slice and I wanted another. (I'm usually a one slicer). Sauce is perfectly seasoned. Sausage, onion and peppers were harmoniously starring in this show of taste. With only those toppings, I was transported to an Italian neighborhood where the quality of your food is important to your reputation. This is it. I can honestly say I have never had a bad experience here. This is the Real Thing I know people who drive 45 min. to experience this very delicious pizza. I'd been very on the fence about the food as I always loved their dishes but the first and only time I'd ordered pizza, the middle was doughy and didn't appear to be quite cooked. Having said that, I am so glad I gave another chance because what I just got was some amazing pizza that has me missing Brooklyn. It was perfectly made, the seasonings were absolutely on-point, and the crust had great texture. Let me also say, this is the only place I have found since moving two years ago that includes ricotta in their baked ziti. I'd never had otherwise downstate and it makes a WORLD of difference. I have had De Fazio's pizza many times as well of those of its competitors in the Capital Region. De Fazio's makes a very good pizza and is my current favorite in the Albany area.The restaurant has an issue with lack of cooking capacity. It sometimes gets overwhelmed by(justifiable) demand and you can wait in excess of an hour for takeout pie at times.The pepperoni round pie I consumed on 9/5/15 was well seaoned with oregano and tomato sauce and contained plenty of pepperoni. My only quibble is that the crust of the pie is kind of thick and doughy, a style which is I do not favor. On the whole though, I would not hesitate to return to DeFazio's for its very good pizza. I must add that they are closed on Sundays which is kind of inconvenient if you are looking to fill your pie hole on a football Sunday. read more

Was in Troy for work, and decided to have DeFazio's delivered. I was stuck in Troy because of a snow blizzard, and thankfully DeFazio's delivered in such terrible weather conditions. I ended up ordering the goat cheese pizza and added spicy italian sausage. The pizza wasn't the best pizza I've ever had, but it was good. I really enjoyed the crust, and you can also order whole wheat crust for a healthier alternative. I ordered a side salad, and that was delicious. It was your standard side salad, but they added some kind of white cheese on the top. Delivery was quick, and the delivery guy was really nice. Pizza consistency. Can I make that a foodie term? Well, I am anyway. If you want to score stars with me, just be consistent in your quality and flavor of your food. I have to say, the best quality I have found with my 3 trips to Defazio's? Consistently flavorful. Consistently cooked well. Just the right crust thickness. Abundant toppings and fresh ingredients. This trip, I had a large smoked mozzarella pie, garlic herb crust - add prosciutto and red onion. I also got the linguini with white clam sauce - side of sausage. After a few meals, safe to say that this place is the definition of consistent. The crust on the pie is seasoned just right. It is cooked crisp on the bottom and just kissed with crispy bubbles and edges on the top. All three pies I have ordered have been cooked to the same perfect level. Pasta was delightfully al dente and the sauce was delicious with an abundance of clams. Once again, a perfect cook. Too often when I order pasta take out, it is over cooked. Rare for it to be just right. I didn't put the sausage with it though, because that came with red sauce. So I ate that separately for lunch the next day. Although it loses a bit after 24 hours in the fridge, it was still delicious. I'm in line with all my Yelp friends on this one. I'll give you five stars for consistently providing me with delicious and properly cooked dishes. Defazio's will be my go to pizza place until they give me a reason they shouldn't be.
