We have used Deering Cleaners on Arlington Avenue for over 20 years. Our grown children have also use Deering. I do prefer the personnel give us "stub claim tickets" when we drop of clothing. In recent years "claim stubs" have been the norm. We always appreciate their efforts to have our clothing ready! Staff members are always friendly! I went to have alterations hem only on a brand new dress it was too long. They placed the pins and took my information I called the day before pickup to confirm it was read. The lady said oh we been trying to call you the pin marker fell ou--- Well I gave you my information oh we must've used the old info in the system! So I go back and get pinned again! I go to pickup I had asked at drop off to keep the material they cut I was using for head scarf! I have had ANOTHER negative experience with Deering Cleaners on north Arlington! I can get over the random giving me the wrong clothes or giving my clothes to somebody else. But my latest experience is really annoying!! I took curtains in to be cleaned well in advance of a scheduled celebration at my home. I was told they would be done last Wednesday. We stopped in TWICE on Wednesday and I feel we were lied to. Both times I was told they would be done that evening and they would call me when they were done. No Call! On Friday afternoon, we checked again and found out that they weren't done because they didn't know how to clean them. I appreciate that they were conscientious about not cleaning them, but I feel very frustrated that they did not call to tell me so! When I finally picked up the curtains that were NOT cleaned, I asked to speak to a manager and was assured I would get a call. Guess what!? No call! They ruined a dress while dry cleaning it. It was silk with beading everywhere. When I picked the dress up many of the beads were missing. I returned it to be fixed and after two trips back it was eventually fixed. I guess they made things right but I won't return to this or their other locations because not enough care was taken with my clothes. They do dry clean down vests, jackets and comforters well. read more

I took a comforter in for dry cleaning (dry cleaning as per the manufacturer instructions). Upon pick up and getting it home, I discovered it had been laundered and not dry cleaned. When inquiring, I was told "this is how we do all comforters. I'm not sure why the manufacturers say to dry clean them". OK, I understand this is how you always do them, however, no one bothered to contact me for approval on this. I would have said no as I could have laundered it myself. The cover lost its shape and the inner parts were all bunched up. I called, then took it back to be fixed. After waiting 2 more days, it came back to me exactly as it was when I had picked it up the first time. There was never a mention of apology for not clearing this method before doing it, there was no mention of the fact my comforter is now ruined and looks like heck. I am so incredibly disappointed in the service, the attempt at fixing the problem and the total outcome. Now I have to buy a $160 comforter to replace the one that is ruined. I thought this would be an easy cleaning job and it turned into frustrating time. I don't feel there was enough care given to the article brought in nor to customer service. read more

Absolutely appalling customer service! I've had numerous bad experiences (far more than I can go into in this review) but this last trip will be my last. I brought in a bridesmaid's dress to be steamed. As I was spelling my last name for one clerk, another came up and interrupted me with a rant about another customer to the first clerk. When I picked up the dress, I pointed out that it was still a little wrinkled. The clerk just laughed nervously and said that was the best they could do. Then, she had the nerve to charge me $20 for the steaming! I asked her if she could do anything about the price as they hadn't done a very good job. She said no. So I asked if she'd rather do something about the price or lose a regular customer. She shrugged... and so now, I have a new regular cleaners. read more

I am very disappointed in the downward turn in customer service this location has taken. I have lived in Irvington for the past 15 years, and have always used this cleaner for my dry cleaning needs. This business is under new management that unfortunately is ruining their reputation here on the eastside of Indianapolis. For this discussion, I'll reference my previous service during late November of 2015. I brought a comforter and outerwear jacket in for cleaning. The items were picked up the second week of December, and brought home. When it was cold enough for the jacket to be worn, my partner noticed his quilted, hooded insert/liner was missing. Since I do the dry cleaning runs for our home, I returned with the jacket and service tags in tow so that the missing item could easily be located within the dry cleaners building. It has very distinctive styling. The rep I spoke with during this trip went to the service location on the dry cleaning apparatus to see if the missing item was there. At this time she refered my concern to the manager, Sara. She said it was not there, they only had the comforter and one piece checked in for the jacket, and could we check at home. Sue also said that she couldnt say for sure it wasnt there, and that mistakes can happen. No problem, I said I would look but that the insert/liner had never been taken out since we purchased the coat from Nordstrom. We looked all over our home. No insert/liner as we thought. I returned with a wool sweater to be cleaned(see, we trusted this cleaner because we have never had an issue over 15 years), and informed them that we indeed did not have the missing item. The rep referred to their system again, and said they only checked in two items originally; a comforter and only one piece for the coat. Now, neither this rep nor Sara had bothered to look anywhere else in the store, and Sara had just left for the day. On the way home, it dawned on me that when I originally brought those items in, that original rep threw them in the bin and handed me the service ticket. She never even checked if the coat had a belt, hood, or anything that would qualify as another piece! Long story short, I've had to get there Better Business Bureau involved, and the dry cleaners manager Sara is still claiming the piece never came in there. All we ever wanted was the missing item back, and to avoid any further action. Sara has not even offered one red cent towards depeciated value, or a return on the cost of the dry cleaning of the coat. It is unfortunate that John Deering cleaners has become another horrible example of poor customer service, and lack of customer care. I am contacting Nordstrom for the original cost of the coat which was a specialized Seven Diamonds outerwear jacket, and we will proceed as advised by council. DO NOT USE THIS CLEANER!! read more

Not only is this a horrible place to get your clothes cleaned, it's horrendous to work for. You do not ever get treated with respect from the owner Phillip Deering but you do 3-4 people's jobs for a mere $9 an hour and get talked to like a dog everyday by the owner!! read more

I would not use this cleaner. They bait and switch pricing and the quality of the work is suspect. I left pants and shirts with missing buttons which never were fixed. The staff tolerate you at best. Good luck read more

Eastsiders beware. Took a suit there today (@3:00) to be cleaned for my baptism on Sunday. They informed me it would be ready on Monday as they do not clean on the weekends.Really? Apparently this is a part time business which already has so much business it isn't interested in any new business. Okay. I then went to Tuchman's and they will have it ready for me tomorrow. read more
