Deerfield's cakes are very beautiful but, dry. Their donuts, sweet rolls, breads, etc. are very good.

WORST BAKERY, DO NOT GO HERE. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Placed a cake order that was communicated at length, when I saw it, the cake was ALL WRONG! I couldn't be there for my sister's birthday but Deerfields delivered. They really took the time to make sure that they understood exactly what I wanted and designed a beautiful cake. My sister called immediately when the cake arrived to thank me and then she began texting me photos, followed by messages from her coworkers, as they all wanted her to thank me for the delicious cake. Had heard a bunch of really good things about the bakery so we made a stop here recently. It did not disappoint. We had a great lunch on the patio before venturing back in for some sweets. I had been there many times for sweets with no problem, but the first time I went for lunch was a disappointment. There were only about 5 other people there, but it took about 30 min to get my food, the other people in our party were already done. The servers gave numbers to people, but didn't seem to associate that number to the order, at least culvers has that down. The server also came out multiple times with a lunch that no one appeared to order. When I did get my lunch, the sandwich was lukewarm, about the same temperature as the coleslaw, they were good, not overwhelming, and not worth $12.00, the Fridays about 3 blocks away are quicker, and a much better value. read more

Deerfileld's Bakery has great desserts, yet I have been very disappointed by my last several visits. My favorite item is the Chocolate Bear Claw, yet every time I go in, they are out of them. And, mind you, I have not been going in at closing time, when you might expect things to be fairly picked over. The last few times I have gone in, I have made a point of telling an employee about this, including one of their managers, yet they can't seem to figure out that they are not making enough of this very popular item. Worst customer service I've ever had. I stopped in to inquire about ordering a baby shower cake. I had a picture with me to show them. I walked in and there was no one in the place. Maybe one customer getting a sweet roll. The girl behind the cookie counter asked me if I needed help and I said I would like to speak to someone about a cake. She hollered across the place to another women who promptly said she would be a little while yet. So i stood there while no one helped me. Finally a women came over to me and introduced herself as "Customer Service" and asked if I had been helped and in the next breath said "I'm really not supposed to help you, but what do you need". I start explaining what I'm looking for and show her a picture and she starts talking fast and says yes we can do that and we can do this, blah blah quotes me a price of $82 dollars and keeps my picture, writes all over it with my info and says she'll email be back with more info. 4 days goes by and no email. 3 attempts at calling the place and waiting on hold forever. Finally get through to a rude women who said the other women I spoke with basically didn't tell me the correct info and again I hear she wasn't supposed to talk to me and when I started to tell her what I was told the women on the phone got really rude and short. Quoted me the same cake the other women told me about at $150. When I questioned the difference she got very condescending. I told her they had the worst customer service I've ever dealt with and hung up. All I wanted was to order a cake. Won't ever go there again. read more

I'm sharing my wife's review because she doesn't have a Yelp account: Today I went into Deerfields to get some cookies as a gift for a business. It wasn't crowded. No one asked if they could help me and I stood at the cookie display for 5 minutes. I asked the employee if she thought smaller butter cookies or big iced cookies would present better in a box. She seemed to care less and said "doesn't matter." Not even a suggestion of what sized boxes they have or a question such as "what's the occasion?" or "how many people are you looking to buy for?" Then I proceeded to the counter. I noticed my cookies were in an unmarked white box. I saw the lady behind me had a Deerfields sticker on her box. If I wanted a plain box, I'd buy some pastry at the grocery store. I asked the clerk if she had a sticker and she said she didn't know. I asked her if she could please check. She asked the cashier next to her who said "no" without even looking. I left with an unmarked box of cookies from a bakery that clearly doesn't want any repeat business. read more

We always get cakes here. They have good tasting cakes in fun shapes, a combination that you rarely find . For thanksgiving we got this great turkey shaped cake, and the chocolate frosting was to-die-for. The cookies are also very very good! They are soft and buttery. Everyfhing is so fresh and expertly made. Best chocolate chip coffee cake - extremely rich, but you won't have any trouble polishing off a nice sized hunk. The bagels are good and pretty inexpensive. Because I am always trying to watch my weight, there are things there that I only dream about. I wanted to get a special cake to celebrate my mom's 70th birthday, so I thought I try Deerfields for the the first time. After visiting their website, loading my selections into their cart, I went to checkout, and the webpage said my cart was empty. Tried again, same thing happened. So I tried to phone in my order instead. Had to wait a half hour before reaching a live person. Placed my order 4 days in advance. They made me pre-pay, which I did. On the day of my pick-up, they said they misplaced my cake. What??? They said if I wanted, I could drive 45 minutes away to their other location, to pick it up. Like anyone has time for that in rush hour traffic. Then they told me that I could select another cake within their current stock. So I opted for that. You'd think they'd give me the 6" inch yellow cake for free, since I purchased 100 DOLLARS worth of other baked goods, but to my surprise, they did not give me a refund for the lost cake. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I WILL NEVER GO BACK. read more

This place has opened a drive thru. Great idea, only problem is you cannot alter anything on the menu. I drove up to order a breakfast sandwich and asked for a different type of cheese. They told me I need to come inside for a special order. What?! No one else in line behind me. I live walking distance from this place, so i frequent it with my family and grew up going to the Deerfield location. They were extremely rude and basically pushed me aside telling me this was their policy.don't you have to tell the cooks what the customer is ordering anyhow? A really sad day for me as i used to love this place and i have a sweet tooth being in the service industry it's my policy to give business to restaurants who provide service to their customers. Change your policy Deerfields, it's not like I am ordering a cake from your window. I'd happily pull up after paying you to wait for my order. I made a quick stop yesterday thinking that their sandwiches must be as yummy as the baked goods. Boy was I wrong! I paid full price for a pre-made sandwich that was made on 6/25 (I visited on 6/27). Wouldn't have chosen a BLT if I know it was made 2 days ago! Soggy chewy bread, fatty bacon, wilted lettuce and a cold, sad tomato slice. Cookies were a nice touch, but they were average. We came in on a Sunday morning for our first visit after hearing a lot of good things about this place. The donuts were great, but the pecan roll and apple fritter were hard as a rock. We had to use a steak knife to cut through it, which was a big disappointment. They seemed to be a few days old and not fresh. The cashier was also very unfriendly and rude. First time trying the place today. We picked up 6 donuts...what a waste of money. They were the quality of what you would get at a gas station or hospital cafeteria. Husband actually threw a cream-filled one away, indicating it had no flavor. They were very pricey and very tasteless. The chocolate had zero flavor but was on par with what you would expect in an industrial setting. We will not return. I purchased a salad thru the drive-thru and was unpleasantly surprised when I returned to work to find that is had a sticker on the front that said use by 01/09/14. To top that off, 1/2 of the salad was frozen. The egg slices had ice on them, the mushrooms were really brown, the cucumbers and lettuce were translucent and the tomatoes looked disgusting. Purchased our 2nd torte cake on Saturday (in the span of 2 weeks) and thought they were both exceptional. Today we purchased 8 cupcakes for another birthday and noticed they were probably the same ones we saw on Saturday; after eating them there is no doubt they were from the weekend (very dry). Also purchased 2 cafe lattes which tasted like hot milk without any coffee flavor. Happy with the cakes but disappointed with the quality of the cupcakes and drinks for the price. read more
