This place has changed names and owners at least three times since it opened. The newest incarnation is Sweet Cafe. It looks exactly like the other previous establishments with one exception: snack bags of Lays BBQ potato chips. Yep. You read that correctly. Bags of BBQ chips. We asked why they had them. Perhaps for those that don't like ice cream? Nope. People like to crush them up and put them on their ice cream. What the what?! There are 6 stations for frozen yogurt (I think) which means there are 18 possibilities (two flavors and 1 twist per station) however, there were 4 missing flavors and those that shared stations were weird except for one: chocolate and strawberry. There was a vanilla and a cheesecake twist. Yuck. And a pomegranate passionfruit mixed with Mango surprise. Gross. They just had a lot of blah flavors and nothing exciting. They did have a crapload of boba, mostly strawberry and some black ones, green ones and yellow ones. The labels were half on and half off so it was hard to read what they had. They did have a bunch of larger toppings like half sections of rice Krispy treats, large marshmellows, brownie bites, and more larger bites. There was Hershey chocolate sauce and a caramel sauce plus canned whipped cream (but it was warm sitting on top of the acrylic shelves holding the bags of chips). Yet the weirdest thing at Sweets Cafe was the gentleman working the register & scale. After each party paid for their froyo treats, he grabbed a napkin and then wiped each nozzle on the frozen yogurt machines. With the same napkin on all the machines. We watched him do this five times. A person would pay, he'd then grab a napkin and wipe the nozzles of each machine using that one napkin. Not very sanitary. He was quite diligent in this task. And then he'd use some cleaning agent to wile the counters and floors (again using napkins). The odor was pungent. Something you don't want to smell when indulging in any kind of sweets. I don't think this place will last. I wonder what will take its place. read more

An alright froyo option for me. The cafe itself looks quite cute and there's plenty of seating for everyone. In addition to the self-serve froyo they also have different options of smoothie and boba tea options. On my visit they were out of a good number of the flavors, maybe because my visit was in late October, but that also meant that my friends and I relied on toppings rather than froyo to get some variety. On this visit as well, the only fresh fruit option available (despite a fairly large assortment of toppings) was the strawberries. The froyo itself tasted fine, both in the standard dairy and sorbet options but the price felt a bit high at checkout though there was no price listed per ounce, which makes it difficult to compare. read more

My husband and I went to Sweet Cafe with a friend to get dessert. When we went in, we saw that several flavors were missing from the frozen yogurt machines. I got the new York cheesecake and the combination of cookies and cream and Dutch fudge. I added some sprinkles and dark chocolate chips in the mixins area. The cheesecake has a weird flavor to it, but I did enjoy the chocolate flavors. The sitting area was nice, and we were able to enjoy our frozen yogurt there. Overall, it was a nice visit. Boba tea, smoothies, frozen yogurt the works. Sweet Cafe is located in a strip right next to Chipotle and behind Cafe Zupas. We came in for a sweet treat after dinner and they close promptly at 9. They have a few different flavors of frozen yogurt with all the toppings for you to choose from, depending on what kind of mixing you add the weight and pricing does add up quickly. The yogurt itself is delicious and creamy and they variety is great for the size of the shop itself. When we got to the front, we were asked to put the cups on the scale for weight. The shop itself is super cute, offering a limited seating if you wanted to sit and enjoy your yogurt, or grab a lid and take it to go. All in all, when we're in the mood for yogurt we'll be back to try some of the other flavors. :) read more

We stopped here on our way back to the city from running errands in the burbs. They don't offer testers anymore which is a bummer. I went with a classic choice of mine at most places like this: cheesecake flavor with cheesecake topping. I was disappointed in the options of flavor and toppings. They only had about half of their yogurt machines filled with flavors so it was slim pickings while we were there. Overall mine was ok, I would have chosen another flavor if I had been able to test it. I've def had better fro-yo before. read more

didn't even get to try the frozen yogurt because i tried to get a flavor and the machine started screeching loud so i stepped back. the worker was very rude, he came over and said "i don't know why you're touching the machine, i turned it off for a reason" as if i knew something was wrong with it. there was no sign or anything indicating it was broken. he needs to check his attitude. read more

Their boba tea is way too sweet. I also do not like the fact that they make the drinks behind a wall where I can't see them. There's also this weird robot camera on the counter that followed me the whole time. Not sure if it's a novelty item or someone is actually spying on their customers from a remote location. Either way it was weird and uncomfortable. There is a gummy texture to the milk tea I ordered. It's too sweet to my liking and does not taste anything like milk tea. Was in the area and in the mood for froyo so we stopped in for a sweet treat. Plenty of froyo options, indecisive as I am I got a little bit of almost everything (strawberry cheesecake, chocolate, pistachio, coconut, taro, cupcake, and caramel). The flavors were good, not overwhelming, and they were a good amount of sweetness. I liked their topping options. And I really liked that they had an Acai flavor (dairy free) so you could in essence make your own Acai bowl! Unfortunately for all those lactose intolerant, the Acai was the only non-dairy flavor. They selection of yogurt is fine but there is NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I feel like I always get an ugly eye roll as soon as I walk in. They are also super expensive and the scale just keeps jumping and jumping as the yogurt sits there to get it's final weight...probably broken IMO. To top that all off, they didn't even have a lid for my yogurt and my daughter was taking it home to eat after dinner. What kind of yogurt place runs out of lids? I was offered a bag. Really? I used to live in San Diego county and I grew accustomed to taro-flavored everything and bubble tea. I squealed when I saw that Sweet! offered taro frozen yogurt and bubble tea! I didn't get a chance to try their bubble tea the last time we went but I did get some taro froyo and it was pretty legit! I mixed it with their pistachio gelato and I was in heaven. They also had a wide froyo selection and had very solid flavors and toppings to choose from. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for a dessert place in the Wheeling/Buffalo Grove area.
