This small & unique little Southern Cali surfer styled seafood taco stop is a gem of a place in Deep Cove area. Loved it so much we had to go there 3 times out of our 6 day stay. The owners work their tails off providing great service and deliver some of the best and freshest beer battered halibut and cod tacos I have ever had!!!!...ok maybe that was my first time ever having this particular fish prepared in this way, but STILL soooo dang good and was SO happy we had the opportunity to have casual conversation with them on more than one occasion while chatting up the other locals. The food, owners, and staff found their way to my heart. I really hope one day we can visit again. They made me feel at home and like a local. Thanks guys! Came for a quick bite after hiking with some friends and just walked down the street and picked this place. I see a lot of low star reviews here, but to me it turned out exactly as expected, so I'm satisfied. I like the open concept and the décor and ambience. The five of us each got something different, so I got to see what all the food looks like. I didn't taste other people's food, but it looked good and they said it was good. I got a tortilla soup and I liked it. Came with their "hand-out tortilla chips." The downsides: Everything is really small for its price... It's more of a snack joint than place to go for meals to me. Also, their water was $3 for a bottle........ If you have your own bottle, they fill for free. read more

I just had the nicest experience. We weren't sure the restaurant was open when we walked in at 9:20pm. They closed at 9pm, but the gracious what I assume is the cute Owner asked us if we would like food, so he handed us menus and we ordered. A very friendly man named Carl came in and introduced himself. Only in Deep Cove would this be considered normal - otherwise people would wonder if they were being approached by a murderer lol. Thank you kind sir for making our dinners. I had the carnita tacos and they were fabulous FABULOUS. My friend has the fish and chips and she's very happy and said they were really good. The staff were very friendly--the best part of my experience, but they weren't particularly busy, either. The open minimalist style of the restaurant was nice and modern, and seemed very trendy without being pretentious. Kudos for these two things. Unfortunately, as others have observed, my piece of fish was small and greasy. Fries were pretty good, though. But the price was too high, considering what I received: $16 for a single small piece of halibut and a $3 can of Coke. I shouldn't have to need (or pay for!) "extra protein" if the fish is a decent portion size. I don't care if the owners think they have a partnership with the community, historical references in their name ("Deepwater"), or that the fish is "hand cut" ... so what? It's brand new in the Cove so to be fair we'll have to give it a few more tries to really form an opinion but the first visit wasn't great. The food is totally fine. Had the cod tacos which were a solid 6.5 / 10 - small (teeny) portions, fresh (but again teeny) garnish of black beans, corn, onion and lettuce with cilantro aioli I think...but what blew us away was the prices. They are straight up bonkers. And no food isn't all about price but this is a take out taco joint, not The French Laundry. Tacos, even in Vancouver, are supposed to be pretty casual food. La Taquaria, Tacofino, Tacomio etc etc typically run $11 for a burrito and $10 for 4 tacos...hate to compare places but that seems to be the norm. Not at Deep Water. Our pal ordered a halibut burrito for....drumroll...$18. (The price last week, according to the angry neighbours at the coffee shop yesterday, was $24 - holy S$%t!) And we're talking about a super standard fish burrito. Food costs can be high and yeah Deep Cove is a tourist destination but this is almost criminal. Other prices equally nuts for basic stuff. $3 for a "side" of sour cream. $7 for (plain) French fries. Wanted to love it here but even if the food was mind blowing, I feel kind of like a chump paying $5 for single wee taco. Bummer. read more

WARNING! TERRIBLE PLACE! DO NOT COME HERE! We had the worst experience here. Not only is the service here terrible but the food here is overpriced. The boss was the worst part. When asked why our food came later than someone who arrived about half hour later than us, the boss who decided not to apologize, which shows his lack of experience with customer service, said "I am not gonna apologize that it is busy!" Perfect example of someone who was clearly not listening as to why someone came in and received their burger about 30 mins before my friend who kindly waited. I think we should all do management a favor and give this place fewer customers and less business. This boss is a disgrace and should be ashamed of his behaviour. read more

I went there on Sunday to get some takeout. The small seating area was open max 7 ppl. Wait for the food seemed long, I realize there's probably only 1 person in kitchen. I'm sure I was OVERCHARGED. it should've come to under $24 for my blackened cod sandwich & ginger beer. Instead it was rung up as $27 + tip on the machine. I tried to get the woman's attention but she'd run back to the kitchen. the food was very tasty however next time I'll check my bill more carefully before I tap for payment and NO tip. read more

Newly opened, at the same spot that had a failed Fish & Chips. A lot of food here has "corn" but the owner says the corn is not organic, so the corn is almost certain to be GMO (just like all soy today), thanks to Monstersanto. Anyway, they made a special non-corn taco using a burrito wrap. The $5 taco was wet from the tomato squares, and dripped a lot. Took out the wrapper and ate off the aluminum plate with fork and spoon. Aluminum .. uh ..Alzheimers, I'm thinking. The halibut taco was tiny and lacked taste. No halibut flavour, or any flavor at all. My rating for the food at Deepwater Micro Eatery is "zero" out of "five". Layout is like a "bar" similar to the new operations in Yaletown, where there are no tables, but just a bar, and benches for ice cream, for example. This shop has a huge TACOS on the wall, Since this is a bar, it won't be a good place for a party of four, The washroom is very "ad hoc" and has the paper wipes dispenser overhead, on the wall above the toilet bowl. My rating for the washroom is 2 out out of 5 stars. No decor, just white walls, and chalked-in menu board. Prices are $$$$$ for the quantity and quality, imo. As a local I was very excited to have this new addition to the Cove, however, after we ate there we felt entirely insulted. The food was way overpriced, sustainable fish or not, the prices were criminal for what we received. We ordered 4 tacos at $5 each, and my husband actually ate each of his in 2 bites. The size of fish was maybe 2 inches in length and majorly battered and greasy. The tacos were all full of lettuce and were completely tasteless. We also ordered a side of fries and were blown away when we were charged $7 for a small serving of the world's most salty greasy fries. Unfortunately, the owner of this place has not taken into consideration any of the reviews that he has received stating customer disappointment. A good business person would adapt and listen to the customers to which he serves. I really do hope this owner chooses to improve his menu and prices, or sadly this place will fail. read more

This was maybe the worst place I have been to in some time. Sure, Deep Cove is a bit of a tourist trap so we expected the quality to be on the mediocre side and prices to be a bit higher. But $16 for a small piece of overcooked, super greasy halibut and some stale fries (some were piping hot, others were cold or soggy)? Not to mention the $3 diet coke, and not being able to get a glass of tap water? There was obviously a reason why every other cafe/restaurant had line-ups, and this place had a handful of people in it. It isn't often that I say this - but don't bother going here! read more

Came for some good food and beer after hiking Quarry Rock. We both had the blackened cod burger and a pint of Parallel 49 beer. Fish was great, and so were the sides (excellent fries!!) BEWARE !!! This is probably the worst eatery in Deep Cove. Remove probably. Eighteen Dollars for two pieces of cod with chips. Three dollars for bottle of water(no tap water unlike every other restaurant in the Cove).The fish was heavily coated with a tasteless batter and the fish pieces were small. The chips were old, hard and heavily spiced. When we complained the young Server was the only person who talked us even though the Owner was in the back. This is the same ownership as the Village Table who are well known for High Prices, Poor Service, and Bad Food. It is a shame that a Restaurant space is being occupied by a business whose sole purpose is to ripoff the Tourists. They will give Deep Cove a Bad name.
