This is one of my favorite courses in the area. It's BEAUTIFUL! The deer are fearless. You shoo the deer out of the fairway and as soon as you walk by, they go right back out there! I guess you can't beat the freshly manicured salad they serve on the golf course fairway. First thing in the morning is the best time to go, but it can be soggy. If you're a barefoot golfer, like me, you might need to keep the golf shoes on until the back nine. read more

This is a nifty little executive par-3 course. Most par-3 courses are only 9 holes. However, they have a full 18 holes here, including 6 par-4s. This is a perfect course for beginners. It's incredibly short but the scenery is really nice. For those people that are more adept golfers, most of the par-4s are driveable with exception of two dog-legs. Unfortunately, both times I've played here was the day after it rained. The drainage is very poor and a few holes were unplayable due to standing water. The driving range is nothing more than a couple of nets. It can be next to impossible to get a tee time on the weekends. The Club House has a typical golf course restaurant, although the food is not quite as good as your average course and the seating area could use a good cleaning. The pro shop is extremely small. Other people have rated this course 5 stars. Compared to other executive courses, I would agree that it is one of the finest I've ever seen. However, I prefer to rate all courses on the same scale regardless of their length, hence the 3 stars. read more

This is one of the better executive courses I have ever played on. What a find tucked away in the foothills of Cupertino. Shorter course (of course) is great for beginners as well as for iron play for some of us that have been doing this for a time. Most are par 3s, with a few short par 4s. I walk the course, and it really is a nice setting. Lots of trees. Fairways and greens are well maintained normally, but do get a little rougher some times of the year. They have a netted practice area (you hit the balls into the net), and a practice putting green. Also, a small pro shop. The grill puts out the usual golf course fair, but the burgers and hot dogs are really rather tasty. The cold beer is always a nice finish after moseying through the course. I've been a loyal customer of this course for 10 years and I think it's is complete bullshit that your rates have gone up when there is hardly any difference from "renovations". This course was great because it was affordable and fast. 49 dollars a player to walk is an absolute joke to any avid golfer. I will take my 64 dollars when you add in the cart, and go play 18 at a real golf course. Deep cliff should be ashamed at this piss poor management. Your greens and tee boxes are hardly ever in any type of shape, and rounds now take 4-5 hours. This is an executive course so for those short on time or who are like me and find playing a full 18 a bit of a task at times, this course is just right. You'll have an opportunity to practice your short game set to beautiful backdrops. They are always accommodating and everyone is so friendly here. The course can get a bit backed up on weekends but that's true of any course. They have been putting a lot of money into renovations which makes things a little inconvenient in the mean time. The turf tee boxes aren't ideal, but they are only temporary. read more

I haven't played any other 18 hole executive courses and I hand't played this course in 20 years (just took back up golf again last year), so I was looked forward to trying this course today. You get what you pay for. At $33 for walking 18 holes on a Sunday, it certainly did not break the bank. But the small driving range consists of hitting into a net, didn't really like that. The greens were in good shape, but the tee boxes were all dirt or sand, so that kinda ruined our round for us. I know there is a drought but driving from dirt is not very fun. The course is very compact, which was OK, but he people behind us kept talking when we were driving/hitting/putting, we finally had to ask them to be quiet. There is a creek that runs through front nine, which was fun (to try to avoid), but also seems to result in lots of bugs, which were annoying I guess I'd rather pay a little more and get a nicer course. With the crappy range and the dirt tee boxes and the bugs, I'd rather play at Pruneridge. I was really hoping to like this course, but seems like it's gone downhil, maybe once the drought is over it will be better. read more

I have been taking lessons from Carl Wheatley for the past month and I highly recommend him. I am a beginner golfer and Carl worked with me on the basics, showing me how to efficiently shift my weight after coming down from my take away. He was extremely helpful and explained concepts very clearly. I grew up on this course when it was $2 to play 9 holes in 1967. I played every week. I graduated Monta Vista HS in 1979. We've had a reunion tournament for 9 years at the Deep Cliff website for $60 per player. This year Deep Cliff wants to charge us $100 per player and the GM Shane Stevens has been on vacation for 3 weeks, his subordinates say, "I have no control over pricing". They are gauging the people that grew up playing that course. Here are its posted prices copied from its own site. I am still trying to figure out what the heck was I thinking going golfing at 7:50 am on Saturday. Freezing cold and I am out there playing 9 hole with my buddy. Obviously my game was embarrassing. I blamed the cold, we finished the 9th hole in about 1 hour and 23 minutes. Golf course I'd rate 3/5, decent 18 hole course, well kept and nice variety. Main complaint is that the golf course is typically crowded and tee times are delayed (~20-30 minute delay). The rest of this review is for the upper management at Deep Cliff: The 4th and 5th star is for Grant... let me tell you about Grant.. He is the epitome of customer service. If you were to wrap a bundle of ideal qualities together and package them in an employee -- he would be it. His demeanor, presence, patience, and candor are above anything previously seen at a golf course, let alone any customer service industry. I had locked my keys in the trunk of my car and was unable to leave the facility. Upon relentless phone calls (and prayers), none were met with a solution. Grant, bless his kind soul, remained throughout the process, asking how he could help, and respectfully remained by our side as he waited to close the gates. I'm ASTOUNDED by his patience. Never once got the feeling that "hey! these guys should leave... not my problem..." Instead, I was met with graciousness and an abundance of empathy. He stayed by our side, lent us a phone charger and let us keep the car there over night as the situation couldn't be resolved, sadly. We ended up calling an uber to pick us up outside the gate. Best of all, upon leaving, he stopped to check in and make sure everything is all right and that we had a means to get home. From a managers standpoint, I couldn't be more pleased with how an employee handled a potential polarizing situation. He had many chances to react negatively, frustratingly, or even indifferent, but instead he met each encounter with poise, thoughtfulness, and most of all -- respect. He is the sole reason I will continue to come back and have a positive association with Deep Cliff. I can not stress enough how such qualities are necessary in any service industry. Deep Cliff is an excellent course: fun, challenging, and well maintained; surrounded by high trees and an abundance of singing birds. Every time I play here I always see many deer and am never let down by its beauty. The course itself is a challenge but at the same time is not horribly hard. The greens are nice and fairways sweet. I love the front nine here at Deep Cliff, it always makes me happy and just relaxes me. It's very secluded and tucked away giving you a real nice head change... The back nine as well is beautiful and somewhat more of a challenge. The staff is friendly and the facilities are great. The practice putting green is large and you are actually able to practice chipping as well which is great! There is a netted driving range and the balls are a great price. The pro shop is small yet has everything you need to play. I have not eaten at the restaurant/grill but every time I pick up some brews on my way to the tenth hole I smell its excellence. Anytime I am playing at deep cliff I have an excellent time regardless of how I'm shooting. peace and enjoy. read more

Good course for 20-30 handicaps, as it's 18 holes but a very very short par 60. The course is in great condition, and there are some fun holes with lotsa trees to make things interesting. Minus one star for the overzealous marshal telling us that we needed to hurry up even though the group behind us was nowhere near catching up with us. He also picked up my friend's ball (that was in play, though on the wrong side of the cart path) and threw it to him! What!?! read more

Played here a few times when I was first learning how to play golf. I would recommend this course for all levels, it can be challenging even for those who have a decent handicap. Decent scenery and fun par 3's. This course is different from all in the area. I love how this place has a style of its own. The giant cliff backdrop to hole 2 is stunning. Relaxed and laid back staff. Only four starts because rate of play has been an issue in the past and there has been no marshall around to move other groups along. Saturdays are always busy, but the round doesn't need to last 5+ hrs. read more

A great course for beginners to learn on. Mostly par threes, with a few par fours and opportunities to "let the big dog eat." The course is in excellent condition and is really fun. You have to pick your battles though, as the course is very crowded and slow. Tee times during weekdays is probably your best bet. read more

This place deserves nothing less than 5 stars for hosting the 16th hole where I shot my first birdie. Dare I hope for more to come? For a beginner slowly easing into the world of 18-holes, I think the plentiful par 3 holes are a wonderful start to learn how to pace yourself through the course. Since it is mostly par 3 and par 4s, they only offer pull carts rather than a golf cart. So, be prepared to walk the course. I agree with the other reviews that the scenery is quite nice. The greens are really quite fast here, or at least faster than what I'm used to. There are a few interesting holes so it's not entirely boring. Paid $38 on a weekend morning (around 7am teetime). This very short par 60 executive 18-hole course presents some challenges as there are many trees that come in play. This was actually my first 18-hole course (even though it was only par 60), and I at the time enjoyed the experience as I was out with a great group of friends. Early teetime definitely helped as we did not experience any delay whatsoever... and it was great to go out early in the morning when things are quiet. Ah, the calm. Looking back however, paying $38 (walking rate), granted that it was weekend morning, was not a good value. For the same amount of money, you can definitely hit up better courses than this one... you may have to travel farther, but hey, why not for a better golf course. Okay, overall. read more

Deep cliff ripped off its previous Premier members by truncating their memberships this January even though they had paid for the membership for months beyond January. This is logical idiocy aside from the fact that it shows a lack of ethics. It's questionable whether I will play there again and my wife and I were people who played more than most. For an executive par 3 course - this is my favorite. The greens are in good shape, the fairways too. The course makes you come up with good shots, and is good enough to reward you. But it is still challenging. Water on many holes, and danger of some kind on almost every hole. The play is steady and the grill has great lunch and food. IT is protected from the wind, so the weather is always peaceful. I first want to start off by saying the staff at deep cliff are awesome people, they will always accomodate your needs and are very honest people and the fellow golfers there, We had left our Swami Izzo GPS on the golf cart and after 4 days we asked the proshop if it was there and YES they handed it right over to us. We golf here a couple times a week and have to say the greens over time we have seen improvement, they are making it a nice course to play on. I just started to learn golf and I'm taking lessons from Carl Wheatley. Carl is one of the best coaches I've ever worked with-- very professional, patient, and has a great sense of humor too (in addition to the fact that he is also extremely nice)! :D Carl also teaches very efficiently: he would record your swings and replay them step by step to help you make improvement. He obviously also has a lot of experience in teaching-- since he can always spot where the problem is, and will fix it right away. I learned so much from each session that I could already practice on my own only after my first 30-min session with him! As for the Deep Cliff golf course in general, I don't really know much, since I've only been ironing at the driving range. But this place looks great to me-- very clean, and people here are very nice too. Again, GO CARL! XD read more

Was excited to play this course this past Saturday with my sister. We liked that it is 18 holes but only a par 60, as we were a bit tight on time. Deep Cliff is on a really lovely property but the rough is pretty seriously rough (easy to lose balls, bring extra). We liked this course well enough except weren't thrilled with most of the staff. The woman who checked us in was wonderful but that is where it ended. We are experienced but still sort of beginner golfers, if that makes sense. We play regularly and are keenly aware of the "rules" including pace of play. When we got to the first tee there was a decent back up, so we had to wait our turn. The starter was a nice man, although he seemed to think my sis and I were considerably younger than we are and talked to us like we were young girls about how important it is to keep up the pace of play. This was before we even teed off so I am not sure what his issue was. When it finally was our turn, I teed off first and hooked my ball into the trees (eh what are you gonna do) and the starter decided he would give me a bit of a swing lesson.. um really? When my sis stepped up she addressed the ball, and was just beginning her back swing and the gentleman interrupted and pointed out that her line was off. Again, um really? Are you kidding me? of course now she is frazzled and proceeded to hook hers right into the trees. This man had us completley stressed that we were somehow out of place there. We went on our way and were following a foursome of obvious beginners and literally had to sit and wait at every single solitary tee box. And this was just on the front nine. There is a call box which you can use to order food from the cafe so that when you finish on the 9th green you can pop in and grab your food and head to 10. We ordered lunch and ran in to the cafe to pick it up. We knew that we didnt have time to sit and eat so we were just grabbing it. As I stood at the counter cramming food in my mouth waiting for my sis to come out of the ladies room, a course representative came to me is a rush and said that if we didnt get to the 10th tee we would lose our turn. I explained that we weren't sitting to eat, my sis just ran to the ladies room. He said we needed to get there right away. We literally ran to the 10th tee and a: there was someone there and b: there was no one behind us. We literally waited for a minimum of 5-10 minutes but up to 15-20, at every single tee for the entire round. Last thing: the beverage cart made an appearance and we had to really work to flag her down. She stopped a good distance away and we asked if she was the beverage cart and the woman said "uhhh yeaaah".. Um ok so can we get drinks? She explained that she really didn't have anything as some guy had just totally wiped her out. Hmmm well she did have the one thing we wanted much to her annoyance. Anyway we did see her once n the back nine... she was sitting in a remote little area under a tree and seemed to be sort of hiding. She was busy playing on her phone and didn't even notice us walk by. We liked the course even with the crazy rough, but we felt totally unwelcome and I can't say I'd go back. read more

I am a beginner golfer and last weekend I got invited to go to the Deep Cliff Golf Course in Cupertino. I had the opportunity to meet Carl , who not only is a professional golf player, but also a great instructor. In short period of time he made my game so much better and much enjoyable. I live in San Francisco, but I heard so much about DCGC and Carl that I made the effort to commute during the weekend. this is an 18-hole course but we did 9-holes due to our time constraint. each hole is quite short. there are some challenging ones where you have to drive the ball past the ditches...and avoid lakes and trees. i can't vouch for if holes 10-18 are short or long since we only did 9. the weather was perfect. not too hot, not too cold. at each hole, there is a bench where you can sit if you so desire while waiting for the group ahead of you to get off the green. there were trees for shade too since people who know me, know that i love shade cuz i dislike getting tan. quite a lot of people for a monday. most of them were senior citizens on the course. oh, you can also order lunch from the callbox. there is a little menu (basic sandwiches, etc) for your convenience. that's kinda cool if you are waiting at the last hole. your food will be prepared as you are finishing putting. read more

My friend and I took lessons from Carl Wheatley here at Deep Cliff and couldn't be more pleased. The price was extremely reasonable for such a nice course and Carl is an excellent teacher. He helped get my shots longer and straighter by the end of the first lesson and I look forward to continuing to work with Carl. This course used to be amazing, but right now, this course is in horrible condition. Tee box is just sand. Paradoxically, the bunkers have no sand, so there is significant risk of injuring your wrist. Fairway is mostly just dirt and no grass. I would not go here until they have completed their renovation. Giving it two stars instead of one star because at least the greens and 5-10 yards surrounding the greens have grass that you can at least chip/putt from. Deep Cliff is a very pleasant and short 18 hole course. However, the parking lot is not protected from balls flying in and smacking the cars. My vehicle suffered nearly $800 of damage from such an incident. To my surprise, Deep Cliff carries no insurance for such events and their management was completely unwilling to contribute in anyway to the repair. If you have a car that you don't want to have damaged, I'd strongly recommend that you find a course other than Deep Cliff to play. read more

The place is decent and we had a good time. Celebrated 40th bday. We had kids around and the instructor was good keeping them engaged. My daughter lost one of her irons and the staff was not all helpful when called. The instructor never returned the calls even after leaving a message to check for the lost iron. Nice course. Parts are scenic since it is in the hills. You can hear the creek running. Thus a few water holes will make it challenging at times but not difficult. If you want difficult, try the night version. Its 9 of the easier holes but only moon light and some glow sticks to guide you. Buy a few glowing balls if you aren't a straight shooter. read more

Went on Fri night to play a tournament format round of night golf. Had a blast. My foursome had some trouble making a reservation online but the pro in the shop took care of us straight away. Cost was around $30 plus another $15 becuase I had to buy a few special glow in the dark balls. My one suggestion would be to buy the balls on Amazon as I am sure you can get them cheaper, but no big deal. The tournament was well run, and lots of fun. Shotgun start at 8:30 and we played 9. They did a great job lighting up the course with glowsticks to show where the fairways, hazards, and greens were. If you are in to golf and want to try something different give this a try. It is harder than you think to hit a ball in the dark! Kudos to the staff for putting on a great tourney. Looking forward to next time. read more
