Stopped back into Deema again, but this time for dinner... We usually go for lunch, but the ole ball and chain wanted to go for dinner... We ordered the mixed grill platter which serves 2-3 people. While it wasn't cheap ($90 with tip), you get a ton of food and it was all awesome. The service was great as always, but a little slow (you can tell the restaurant keeps minimal staff on hand to keep overhead down). The food took a while to come out, but it was excellent. All-in-all, our meal was great, but we both agreed we prefer to go to for lunch vs. dinner - Nevertheless, we'll be back again, as Deema is one of the best places in town to get Middle Eastern food. read more

I haven't lived in Ft Wayne in over a decade and whenever I come back to visit family, I like to try old favorites as well as popular new places that weren't around when I was growing up in the Fort. I get my hair done at a salon in SW Ft Wayne so my boyfriend (also an out of towner) and I chose to go to Deema Turkish Cuisine to celebrate my birthday last night after my hair appointment. I am familiar with the strip mall it is located in (has a lot of old I recognize like The Monogram Shop and Taste of India) but Deema's is brand new to me. I love ethnic food of all kinds so we both agreed that Turkish food was the right choice to have my moderately upscale birthday dinner at. We were there for an early dinner at around 5pm and were the only people there so we had a lot of good service from the waitstaff. It got busy with more people around 530/6, but we still had good service and they kept our waters nice and full. The interior is nice and classy too! This is a good choice for a romantic date night. My boyfriend and I enjoyed the complimentary bread that was drizzled in honey and ate up all of the Turkish tomato dip before our entrees came out. He ordered a beef kabob platter ($22.50) and I got the Deema Burger ($16.50 and basic choice, I know, but I can't refuse any chance I get to get sweet potato fries as I am addicted!) No worries, the burger had pomegranate seeds and a garlic aoili so it wasn't so basic!... kind of haha. The two (!!!) beef patties were also very thiccccc. They put way too much sauce on there though. I recommend ordering this with sauce on the side or light sauce. Trust me! It was a real goopy, soggy mess. The burger was very yummy and I was very full by the end but I should have ordered something more authentically Turkish. My bad! My boyfriend loves his kebabs and the spices on the rice! He wished they had more flame roasted vegetables on the platter, however. Deema also charges a 4% card fee, which we didnt know about until after the bill came... ew gross. It's a very hit or miss experience at Deema. The first time I came here, it hit on EVERY level. The service, the seasoning, the quantity. But this time, it fell short in every aspect. So I hate to lead with the negative, because there is a lot of good to say about this place. When it's good, it's phenomenal. But when it's bad, it's near unbearable. Let me just say, our last experience here was pretty magical. It was busy, but the owner still came out to greet us and give us his guidance on the menu. I had the Iskender Kebab, my partner had the Wrap plate, and we enjoyed some divine Dubai chocolate cheesecake, per recommendation of the owner. There was live music, we learned we could BYOB(!), and the service and food were outstanding. This time around, there were only about 6 tables full, including us, in the large dining area. We ordered the oven baked hummus to start. It didn't come out for 55 MINUTES. Not until AFTER our entrees arrived. After we did order the main dishes, I asked her about the hummus, and the look on her face told me she had completely forgotten it. Whatever, we're just human. The hummus itself was quite good, although the "pitas" for dipping were very papery and bland. I thought the pita last time was much more substantial, but I could be wrong. We eventually tried to order some more of the pitas but our waitress was nowhere to be found. Every time we got a hold of her, she would then disappear for around 10-15 minutes. The only person around was the woman filling our waters, so most of our questions and orders went through her. We asked her for more pita, and she said she'd put that in right away. I had a feeling she didn't understand, so when our waitress came back 10 mins later I double checked, and she said they put another hummus in the oven! I can't complain about a language barrier, but whew am I glad we didn't have to wait another hour for hummus! For the entree I had the Sac Kavurma, which visually is just stunning, like most dishes here. But flavor-wise, it was completely lacking in any seasoning or salt to make it feel like more than just calories. And so I asked the waitress for some sides of garlic sauce when I could flag her down. I saw her pass by me 3 times in the next 10 minutes and finally asked if she was bringing them, but she had forgotten. One time is meh, two times is annoying. Post-garlic sauce, the dish was a little better, but that chicken was still chewy and flavorless. My partner's Tantuni Wrap Plate was equally lacking in spice or salt, and given that she had the same thing last time, she could confirm that this time was such a huge let down in comparison. We overheard the table next to us having the same point of view, what with the food lacking in flavor entirely versus their last visit, including vegetables that were soggy and meats that had no seasoning. They also experienced the language barrier in trying to split their bill, as their waitress misunderstood their request and put everything except the appetizer on one bill. They were workshopping it for about 5 minutes, but I assume they eventually figured it out. I can definitely understand a difficulty in interpreting a different language, but as someone whose job it is to take orders and work with the person dining in, it was really unprofessional that so many things were forgotten about, misunderstood, or ignored throughout our experience. I can appreciate when the quality of food makes up for the shortcomings in service, but this time around our meals fell flat. I would give Deema 5 stars based on our last experience, and 2 stars based on this one, so I'll leave it at a solid 3. read more

Dined here over lunch during Savor Fort Wayne. It was a great time to try this restaurant out for the first time, as the prices aren't cheap. However, you get incredible, authentic Turkish cuisine. I had the Beef Adana Kabab, & split a couple appetizers with friends (including their amazing fresh Hummus & Baba Ghanouj). Appetizers were served with oversized pita-like breads. It was not very crowded. There was nice music playing in the background. Nice decor in the restaurant, & it's bigger than it looks from the outside. Three of us at a horse shoe booth which after the appetizers and food delivery we needed the space. This is the priciest Mediterranean restaurant I've ever been to, however, the menu is large and the food is beyond delicious. I tried the street plate, soooo goood. They have bottled water at the table which was refilled for us. The wait staff was friendly. There was a small menu that was facing out towards other diners instead of towards the table so we missed the items on there. Overpriced Not very good. I've never been to Turkey, but have had falafel at many places in different parts of the USA, and this was the worst falafel I've ever had. So dry and flavorless. Beef kebabs were ok, but not worth the price. Chicken kebabs were decent - again, not worth the price. The small side salad that comes with them is SMALL. Our party of four visited Deema for the first time and will definitely be back! The place has a quiet and well decorated interior that is a step up but not stuffy. A great place for date nights or special occasions as well as luncheons and family get togethers. The servers were attentive and patiently answered our questions about a variety of dishes and spices. We were advised that alcohol was not available but we could (and did) bring a bottle of chilled white. Glasses and an opener were provided with no corking fee. The variety of appetizers and entrees were all very tasty and the presentation demonstrated a skill and commitment to provide more than just putting food on a plate and sending it out. Even our hummus appetizer was artfully "swirled" onto the serving plate, and I was happy to hear that the stuffed grape leaf appetizer was made in-house too. Our entrees included the delicious kebabs, but I chose (and also recommend) their Tantuni Wrap Plate Beef. It was not only visually appealing and ultimately delicious, but the chef actually followed the server to the table and poured a hot sauce over it before serving. Try the baklava and saffron ice cream if you still have room for dessert- another winner. BTW- the menu prices shown in this site are several dollars more per item than Deema's actual lower menu prices- another pleasant surprise! I came here with a group - two of us (including myself) have had Turkish food before and the rest had not. All of us enjoyed our meals and left happy! I'm so happy to see a Turkish restaurant in Fort Wayne now. The baba ghanouj is excellent, one of the best I've had - and I make this at home regularly so I have high expectations of it. I got the Beef Adana Kabob which came with a lovely giant pile of rice, marinated white onions, a slice of roasted tomato, and a lavash bread. I was very happy with this too, all the right flavors and textures, just delicious. The table also shared the halloumi and honey appetizer, interesting and tasty. All of us brought food home for lunch tomorrow. I only wish I'd had room to try one of the desserts. Next time! Ambiance is nice, low lighting, quiet (although I'd love to see it busier), and good for groups or for date nights. Yes it's on the spendier side, but it is delicious and high quality. Our server was wonderful, quick and friendly and did a great job topping off the drinks and checking on us at the right times. While food is cooking, there is a large window to the kitchen where you can see the huge flames leaping up to kiss the kabobs, which is pretty fun to watch. My fiancé and I stopped by Deema yesterday for an early dinner and we weren't disappointed! In fact, we were so pleased by the food and pleasant server that we will definitely return, despite this restaurant being over 20 minutes away from our home. That's how good the food is! To start, we were served warm French bread with oil on it, along with red pepper paste in oil and olives. The red pepper was delicious! In fact, my date took the olives and I got the lion's share of the red pepper. I was very happy with this little complimentary appetizer. We also ordered the baba ghanouj appetizer spread and were impressed. I've always wanted to try it and, though my fiancé liked it better, it wasn't bad. I was impressed by the presentation and the flavors were good. The spread is served with a large piece of warm flat bread that added to the tastiness of the food. Our entrée of spiced lamb and rice was the showpiece of the meal. Roasted lamb with light spices, yellow rice with chickpeas, roasted tomato wedge, a side of onions, and a spicy orange sauce (OMG, it was unreal!) were amazing and tasted so good. I was incredibly pleased with the orange sauce... It possesses a flavor that kicks your senses into overdrive! It was packed with flavor and enhanced the light taste of the lamb so much! Deema has done an excellent job at helping patrons feel comfortable with with Turkish food. Most people probably won't give Turkish food a try since they aren't familiar with the cuisine. If that is you...then I encourage you to give Deema a try! Deema is located in a strip mall so there is plenty of Parking close to the door. The signage over the restaurant is a little hard to red due to the colors in the evening hours. Once inside you are greeted by a very friendly host. You immediately feel welcomed and comfortable! The interior is nicely decorated, clean and in good repair. The booth seating is very comfortable! The restaurant is fairly wide open so it is good for larger parties. The meal comes with bread, a spicy oil and marinated olives. The bread was crispy on the edges, soft in the middle and basted with a slight seasoned butter mix. Very nice taste. You can dip the bread in the oil, green chiles and peppers mixture. The hostess was correct...this oil is spicy to taste. The heat sneaks up on you really fast...but it's good enough that you have to have a small taste. We really liked the marinated olives. The olives were slightly soft, but firm and had a mild olive taste. I believe they were marinated in oil and rosemary. The rosemary spring was not something I would eat so I had to pick it off. As an appetizer we tried the Halloumi & Honey. The cheese has a fun texture. Some might think it is too rubbery. It definitely makes an interesting noise as you chew it. The cheese is slightly baked to create an attractive and slightly crisp edge. The bubbly texture has an appeal and gives it a bit of crunch. The honey is slightly sweet. It gives the cheese a nice flavor without being over the top sweet. The hostess recommended this appetizer...so give it a try! My wife had the Chicken Shish Kebabs. The grilled tomato and onions were gently cooked to give the vegetable a crisp but enough to know it had been cooked. Not much seasoning added to these vegetables. The rice was excellent...light, fluffy and perfectly cooked. Nothing heavy or filling about the rice. The chicken was laid on a bed of a couple pita pieces...which were plain but very tasty. The chicken appears like it is going to be loaded with curry based on the color and consistency of the spice. Instead you get a mildly seasoned flavor that isn't a traditional Indian style curry. The seasoning blended very well with the moist chicken. The dish also came with a white sauce. We didn't use the sauce because everything tasted so fresh and delicious without covering it up! I had the Iskendar beef dish. The hostess again recommended this entree. Her choice was excellent. The rice and tomato were very good as previously mentioned. I choose to pass on trying the grilled pepper. The beef was very thinly sliced. It appears like it might be pounded to tenderize it further. The beef slices were moist and cooked to a good medium well level. The result was a thin slice that could almost be cut with a fork. The red gravy on top was outstanding. It has a tomato base without an over powering tomato taste - definitely not marinara. The sauce definitely had a combination of spices that gave the gravy more of a Mediterranean Smokey flavor if there is such a thing. This dish was excellent and meet the hostess' recommendation. Please give Deema and Turkish food a try if you have not. The staff is outstanding. Everyone, yes from hostess to chef, will come by to make sure you are very satisfied. You gotta give this place a try. My husband was hesitant about trying Turkish food but he quickly overcame that. We started with the halloumi and honey app which was delicious and squeaky. My husband got the Deema burger which was very flavorful and came with perfect sweet potato fries. I had the iskander beef and we both agreed that was the winner of the evening because the presentation and flavor was extraordinary. My husband and I have been on a mission to try a new type of food every week on a date night. We tried here. The ambiance was great! I actually thought I was underdressed as it is very nice! You can see them cooking the food through a window. I loved that. It was quiet as well. The service was great. The waitress was nice helped explain when I had any questions. There were only three other tables with guests though. So not busy. The bathrooms need some work. Complete other story than what you get in the dining area. We ordered the baba ghanoush for an appetizer. I liked it at first. But the more I ate the more I didn't like it. I don't think it was bad quality, I think it's my palate. The bread was delicious! I ordered the chicken kabob for my entree. It was good. Nothing crazy mouth watering good in my opinion... also nothing bad. But again, that's my palate for trying Turkish food for the first time ever. Also I had a cold at the time and think that may have affected the taste. So planning to try again. Another restaurant I'd rate a 4.5 stars if I could. This one is more a 4.6-4.7 than a 4.4 though so 5 stars I guess. If you've seen my other reviews, you know I like to walk through each dish, then summarize the information at the end to decide whether and how I can recommend an eatery. The dishes we had during our visit included: - Halloumi & Honey - Deema Sausage - Falafels - Zaalouk Salad - Beef Adana Kebab - Beef Shavurma Rice (don't quite remember what the name on the menu is. I tried to look it up but to no avail) - Lamb Chops (no photo) - Baklava & Pistachio Ice Cream - Deema Pudding - Turkish Coffee (NOTE: These pictures were taken as we were taking, so some of them are missing pieces. PLEASE DO NOT USE THESE PICTURES TO GAUGE THE PORTION SIZE!) * HALLOUMI & HONEY: Honestly my favorite appetizer from this place and they are all great. If I can describe this dish in one word, it would be "warm". The cheese is grilled hot with a slightly chewy texture and a very light yet creamy flavor, with the honey perfectly accentuating the coziness. You get 4 slices of cheese per order. * DEEMA SAUSAGE: Very red, very pasty, and very powerful. These greatly reminded me of the blood sausages in Vietnam (see "Dồi"), though they are not the same thing. These are definitely not blood sausages, but they look and taste quite similar. Strong hints of paprika. You get 7 links per order (the picture shows 4, but some of them were already eaten). * FALAFELS: Good falafels, tasted exactly how I expected them to taste so there's not much to talk about. You get 6 falafels per order (the picture shows 5, one was eaten). * ZAALOUK SALAD: Honestly this tasted too much like homemade tomato sauce with eggplant bits for my liking. It's served with pita but the pita itself is whatever to me (I thought it was a bit dry and thin). In a vacuum, it's pretty much just enhanced tomato sauce. * LAMB CHOPS: The star of the show and probably the one thing you'd like to hear opinions about. In general, it is quite good, but there are a couple of things I really liked about them and a couple of things I disliked. The crisp and smoky texture of the meat was phenomenal, the chef definitely knew what he was doing when firing the grill. The seasoning is also done otherworldly, producing some of the spiciest meat you'll ever taste without becoming overwhelming. However, that was also one of my problems: The meat is too spicy (in the literal sense of the word) and not meaty enough. Once you get past the texture and the spiciness, you will notice that ultimately it is not a very good piece of lamb. There is very little lamb flavor and the fat lining the meat quickly dries up rather than melts in your mouth. The dish overall felt quite "steaky" rather than "lamby" to me. You get 3 lamb chops per order, which itself makes it a good value compared to most places where you get only 2 pieces. * BEEF SHAVURMA RICE: In a vacuum, this dish is good but nothing too impressive. It is beef shavurma (also called shawerma, shawarma, etc.) with... well, rice, bell peppers and some other regular vegetables. "Shavurma Rice" is not actually the name of the dish but I forgot what it is called in the menu and could not look it up. Either way, it is a good comfort dish if you are not sure what to order, but there's not much to talk about. * BEEF ADANA KEBAB: This kebab is quite meaty but it also has the opposite problem of the lamb chops - It is too lean and not spicy enough. I felt a bit like chewing on regular ground beef. The tomato that comes with it is quite supple. * BAKLAVA & PISTACHIO ICE CREAM: The ice cream itself is no slouch, but the baklava that comes with it was what stole the show for me. It is super thick and cheesy without being overbearing, just an overall very satisfying chew and pleasurable taste. * DEEMA PUDDING: This pudding is exceptionally substantial, one ramekin can easily feed 2 people for desserts. Other than how viscous and spicy (again, in the literal sense) it is though, there's not much that impressed me. * TURKISH COFFEE: Honestly, this just tasted like a regular espresso to me. Definitely a lot less viscous and grainy than the one at Halal Eats, though I haven't been to Turkey so I wouldn't know what's "right". It also comes with a piece of cheesecake from Costco. * Already reached the word limit so I won't comment on complimentary stuff, but the olives are easily my favorite food in this place. Being big fans of Mediterranean food, we're happy to have found Deema. The food here is quality. It's authentic, fresh and very flavorful. Absolutely delicious, well prepared and presented. Nice peaceful atmosphere and super friendly staff. I happen to LOVE Iskander. This was my first time having it made with beef rather than lamb gyro and it was awesome. They finish it at the table pouring simmering sauce over it straight out of the skillet. It's a nice touch. The falafel is also outstanding. Also, the Turkish coffee is excellent. Totally true to form. The fifth star is missing only because i personally feel that it's priced a bit high for Fort Wayne Indiana but in New York it would be spot on. Every thing about my dad and I's experience was wonderful. The staff were very kinda and welcoming. Never at any point was my table too crowded with plates or silverware. We tried the Turkish coffee and it was delightful, very strong coffee flavor without the harsh bitterness of most black coffee, which paired nicely with the cheesecake. I ordered the lamb chops and the only complaint I had was that i didn't have more of it. The salad was great as well, I loved the dressing with it. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want to step out of your comfort zone and try something you may have never had. read more

This is one of two Middle Eastern restaurants in Fort Wayne. The food is freshly made, and has plenty of unique flavors. If you're looking for a Cuisine adventure, this would be the place to visit. one pro tip is to bring cash because the menu prices are for cash only. We got the steak kebab, the chicken shish and the baklava with saffron icecream. Everything was absolutely delish!!! Service was good too. Wasn't able to take a pic of the kebabs but do yourself a favor and eat the baklava for dessert. It's amazing!!! Will definitely be back. read more

I've been very excited to try this place since hearing the ads on the radio. The night didn't start very well. When we entered the restaurant there was no one at the front desk to greet us. After 3-4 minutes of waiting a waitress ran over and offered to seat us. Although we made a reservations 3 days in advance we were sat at a table out in the middle of the restaurant near the front door, even though there were some booths further into the restaurant that would of made for a better experience. The menu offers many options from mild to wild, and we all settled on some different options . The food was all good, but not great. Seasoning was lacking, but it was good serving sizes and quality ingredients. The owner was out and about all night long checking on tables and saying hello which gives a wonderful sense of local ownership. Overall we enjoyed our evening and ended up staying 2 hours talking with our friends and would have even stayed longer if they served adult beverages. You are welcome to bring your own alcohol similar to a Chicago experience. read more
