Hey everyone! My husband and I tried Deb's/The Pilgrim Diner today for the first time. This place is pretty darn small, a row of like 5 booths and bar stool seating. We were here on a Tuesday so we didn't have any issue getting a spot. Our server, whom could have also been the owner, was very friendly. I had a really good vibe sitting there, it seemed like people knew each other/were regulars, always a good sign. I got the eggs Benny florentine with spinach and tomato, it was accompanied by home fries. They used FROZEN SPINACH, that is a HUGE no no! You can get away with it in an omelet (not desired) but NOT eggs Benny. The eggs were legit cooked to perfection, the best poached eggs I've had in awhile. The holly sauce was just ok and the homefries needed more crunch. My husband loved his breakfast, his only gripe were the homefries as well. While I didn't try his, it looked very good. If they could just tweak a few things this place could be better. It's good but not great. read more

On the suggestion of my friend, with whom it was time to get together and eat and chat as ladies do, we stopped here for a late breakfast - 12:30ish. We walked into this little box car diner and sat at the counter. It was a teeny tiny diner and filled with people. I ordered my staple breakfast, two eggs with bacon, home fries and an English muffin toasted with a side of French toast. It was perfect! The bacon was the best bacon I have ever had in any eating establishment ever anywhere. It was all just good. Despite the cramped seating situation, I will definitely return and try those super big muffins I spied on the rack. read more

My boyfriend and I go here on Saturday mornings for breakfast a couple times a month, usually, and have tried a number of things from their breakfast menu -- it's always great! From the omelettes stuffed with deliciousness to the ENORMOUS pancakes (the size of the WHOLE plate) to their tasty made-in-house grilled muffins, everything is excellent. One of my favorites is their peanut butter and fluff french toast. The service is friendly and they're always right on it for coffee refills, the bill, etc, without making you feel rushed at all. And speaking of the bill -- the price is always right, especially for the size of the portions. There are a couple things that I'm not crazy about, but they're small -- this is kind of a small establishment and it's popular with the locals -- therefore, if you come at the "wrong time" you may have to wait for a table, and there's only room for about 4 people to wait inside. Otherwise, you're out in front, so if it's not nice weather out, that might not be so great. Also, the seats are a bit on the small side, mostly at the bar. I like some wiggle room while I eat. The only other thing that I've ever disliked about Deb's is the fact that sometimes when I leave there, I smell like a greasy diner for the rest of the day. But diner food is exactly what I want, and they have it there, so if I need to smell like it in order to eat it, so be it! They take cards, which is great. They're open 6-2 (or 3?) every day right now. Go get yourself some excellent food here! Just thinking about it made me want some. I can't wait until Saturday! read more

A darn good breakfast. As others have noted, it's more of a locals place, but luckily for us we stumbled upon it on Yelp while searching for the best breakfast in the area. We found it. The diner itself is very small and consists of a long service counter and, if I remember correctly, 4 small tables against the wall. If you're coming in during their busy times, prepare for a wait (it's kind of awkward to stand around near the door waiting for someone to finish, but trust me - it's worth it!)... My wife and I both ordered the Caramel Apple French Toast at the suggestion of our server. Boy was she right! Yummy!!! Probably the best French toast I've ever had. Seriously. The portions were also very large and I feel like we definitely got our money's worth. After having breakfast here the first day of our mini-vacation, we didn't want to try a where else for the second day. So guess what! We went again the next morning and ordered something else... Waited for 15 minuits to get a diet coke, wrap was all right, nothing to write home about though. And to add to the nad review, the place wasnt even half full, and the server kept messing around with the computer system the whole time I was there. This is my favorite breakfast spot! The food is so delicious and served in very large portions. Make sure to come early though, the trailer it's located in is small so there's usually a short wait to get in. I promise the wait is always worth it. Servers are always friendly as well. Me and my brother have been going here for years since we were little kids, can't rave enough about this place. I've never been disappointed with anything I've tried. My all time go-to is the Butterscotch French Toast which can literally never get old, and thats one of the most basic flavors they have before including Banana Split, Caramel Apple, and Peanut Butter and Fluff! Their pancakes are huge and always perfectly cooked. Their muffins are amazing, and I never fail to buy a Fruity Pebbles one if they made them that day. The waitstaff is always friendly; we've been most frequently helped by Jen who is so sweet and always makes sure we're happy with everything! This is a really good solid old school diner in a really well preserved old diner car. It is well worth the trip if you are in the area. Grezzzzzy spoon with a down home 'Flow' kind of feel. So if I lived near by and this was my go to place, I could see the allure of the 5 Star pull. But I don't live near by and have see my share of diners around New England so from my perspective it is a solid 3 - 3.5 Star and that should not be taken in a negative way. So the service was really friendly. We had to wait to get in which is always a good sign. The wait staff was really friendly and johnny on the spot with coffee and drinks. The price was spot on and no complaints from anyone at the table. Everything was cooked as it should be. A shout out to the pancake with fruit. The daughter ate half the thing (it is a huge, fall off the side of the plate cake) which is amazing for her. The pancake did not taste like a box cake which was really good. The down side was that I had to get to my third selection. Their hash is canned (pass), then they were out of sausage gravy, on the the third which was a standard eggs, home fries, toast, bacon(or ham) and a pancake, to include coffee. Super delicious breakfast. We visited this little gem during our vacation to Salem. I ordered the biscuits and sausage gravy with a side of bacon and some coffee. She brought me sausage instead but I didn't care. She offered to bring me bacon instead but I ate the sausage anyway. Everything was delicious and the service was super friendly despite the place being super busy. It's tiny little place so seating is limited but we found a table without an issue but we were there at like 7am on a Saturday. It's full of locals which is a good sign. What can I say about Deb's Diner?? Nothing but good things. I am a huge fan of small diners and have never been here before, so I decided to stop for breakfast with my girlfriend and son. This was probably the smallest diner I have ever been to, but the food was incredible! Everything was cooked up fresh and the service was quick and friendly. Just updating my review for this place... Deb's is fantastic and since the first time I've been there it has become me and my girlfriend's diner of choice. We go to this place every weekend because we can't get enough of it. I've eaten probably everything on the menu at this point and I've never been disappointed. The pancakes in particular stand out because they are HUGE and amazingly fluffy and delicious. The staff is friendly and will take the time to chat with you and get to know you if it's not busy enough. They do take-out here too, and their breakfast sandwiches and wraps are awesome to call-ahead then pick up and take to work. Everyone should check this place out! Best breakfast in Salem! Plentiful portions. Food is delicious. Staff is awesome. Used to go to the Fountain where you had to search for bacon in the omelet. At Deb's there is lots of bacon in every mouthful. Highly recommend! Even if you have to wait for a table, it is WELL worth it! read more

Stopped in for breakfast with my family and decided to come back the next day too! Sue, our server was awesome, always there to fill coffee, water, etc. and genuinely nice. I ordered the same thing both days, simple, but cooked perfectly and fresh too- overeasy eggs, toast, homefries and extra crispy bacon - those potatoes are like crack, not too much grease, good flavor. My hubby had the same and enjoyed it. The rest of my family ordered other items: The pancake - looked delish and I am told it was -yes, just one pancake is plenty for one, kinda like a short stack in 1 pancake!! Also a bagel breakfast sandwich, again cooked perfectly as requested with extra crispy bacon, and french toast, a little less crisp than my son likes, but if you like a nice golden soft french toast, this was perfect. Best breakfast in town! I live around the corner and love this place. I come with my boyfriend and I have brought my niece and nephew- the kids love watching the food get cooked and they also LOVE the pancakes. Everytime they visit me they want to come here for breakfast. I almost always get the same thing, spinach & feta breakfast wrap its enough for 2 meals. Wasn't sure when we walked in if this was a great place. Liked the old retro diner look but it looked a little run down and maybe not as clean as I like. However, our breakfast was amazing. We started with a Blueberry Muffin. It was enormous and one of the best I have ever had. At only $1.80 it is a steal. They could easily charge double and no one would blink. I got two eggs over with perfectly crispy bacon. The potatoes were perfectly cooked as was my English muffin. My husband's omelet was also great. Tomato, peppers, bacon and they added pepper jack cheese which he loved. The people next to us got the blueberry apple pancakes which looked amazing. The only suggestion I would make is to offer real maple syrup. The girl who ordered the pancakes actually brought her own bottle. We all the great pancake offerings it seems silly to only have the fake bottled syrup on the table. Don't hesitate. This place is worth the trip. read more

After seeing pictures of the Boston Cream French Toast online, knew I had to give this place a try. We came in around 9:30am on a Sunday morning, and found parking behind the diner. The place was not yet full, but it was definitely busy for early morning. You can choose to sit at the counter, and there are also a limited number of booths available. It's freezing in the restaurant probably due to the fact that the stoves are in such close proximity to the customers. The French Toast was amazing and huge, I think two people could've easily shared it and still be full after. Only sad at the fact that I couldn't take my own perfect picture of it since the waitress set it down too quickly and the whipped cream came sliding clean off as soon as it was put in front of me. read more

Deb's Diner is awesome!! My husband and I were in MA for a wedding and were hungry for a great local diner. After reading the terrific reviews on Yelp, we hurried over to Deb's. We were not disappointed- I had an amazing corned beef hash with eggs and my hubby had eggs, bacon, and chocolate chip pancakes...these were no ordinary pancakes...they were the size of serving platters (I had to "help" eat half :) We loved our Deb's dining experience so much that we had to come back to Salem the next day (we were supposed to be in Boston)...I needed more of the corned beef hash (sorry, West Coast style hash is just not the same)!! The service was fantastic, too! Bill, the chef, treated us like locals and chatted with us and when we came back the next day, he welcomed us like we had been eating at Deb's for years! All around, a fantastic experience. My hubby still talks about how much he loved his apple french toast (his second meal at Deb's). We miss ya, Deb's Diner!! We'll be back! Headed out to Deb's Diner early this morning even though it was only 38 on the thermometer.There aren't many bikes to be seen on the road early in the morning this time of year and sadly, my riding season is quickly coming to and end.But,I was on a mission to find Deb's.Found the diner about an hour later and was more than ready for my first cup of caffeine and a good meal. Small, with only 5 or so tables and about 13 stools at the counter it is in nice shape for its age.The wood ceiling and the porcelain walls are very appealing to the eye. I had a tough time deciding on what to have for breakfast as I saw so many good choices on the menu and noticed that everything that was coming off the grill looked great. Ended up choosing the "everything omelet" and I'm glad I did.It included all the veggies,bits of sausage,bacon,ham and cheese nicely prepared and presented on a large plate.The home fries had a really wonderful garlic flavor to them and were nice and moist.It was huge and I finished every bit of it.The restroom is a little scary here.You need to go outside and go around the back of the building and down some stairs to use it.Very cramped and small space but, it served its purpose.Now nice and warm and only a few dollars missing from my wallet,I was ready for the chilly ride home very satisfied. read more

deb's diner is the ballz. open for breakfast, lunch, and late night (sorry dinner crowd), you'll get a great deal on some simple, well cooked food. it's slightly misleading at first look, as the dining car establishment actually says "pilgrim diner" on the front. for diner aficionados, this is a Worcester #725 from 1936. definitely a nice find, and a great place to grab breakfast at breakfast, breakfast for lunch, lunch for lunch, or a late night feast. this is the kind of place you want to bring your dad for an "eye opener" breakfast. sweet, sweet satisfaction. my husband went for the eye opener breakfast for an economical 6 bucks, complete with coffee, fluffy pancake, 5 strips of thick bacon, home fries, toast, and two eggs (ova easy). i opted for a cheeseburger...which is always a good way to assess the quality of a diner. the short order cook, who seemed to know the name of everybody that walked through the door, happily called out to me over the counter. "you want chips or home fries". obviously, home fries. the burger was big, juicy, and perfect. the home fries were crispy, not mushy, and that's the way life should be. i am happy to report that i ate the whole thing, and pilfered a whole bunch of my bigger half's pancake, and toast. dirty debs may very well become a new favorite go to. read more
