There is parking in back if not on the street. Found the place on Yelp as I needed to do some work while waiting for my other half who was having a procedure at Salem hospital. This is NOT a remodeled fancy diner but a true old fashion diner. The food was very good. I asked for a "special" order and they did it perfectly. Meat lovers Eggs Benedict all parts where very good. I needed to be rolled out I was so full. Coffee refills kept coming. I didn't have a muffin but they are cooked fresh and they will heat them on the grill. Don't skip the fries (breakfast potatoes). Cash only. The Service: Fast and reliable. I can see why there are regulars that frequent this spot. You get the small town vibe where they know you by name and preferred menu item. It's great. The restaurant: Small diner, not meant for large groups, but you can split up your group to sit at multiple booths. First off the place has a sign out front that it is called the Black Cat Diner now. Went in for a quick breakfast of bacon and eggs. Service was good and atmosphere was friendly. Food was quick and good. Only issue I had was asked for the rest of my coffee put in a to go cup and waitress charged me for an extra coffee. Did advise me of that. Went to this diner on the day of Halloween as it seemed perfect for a little trip. They had a lot of customers lined up out the door so I figured it must be good. There's nothing out of the meal I'd come back for. Plus the meal was really expensive for a small breakfast sandwich. Believe it was around $16 which made me question why I went here. Oh, this place is great. It's got that hometown greasy spoon dive kind of feel with food that's way above that basic quick-and-hot quality. All of my chow was top rate, and I'm a diner snob. Say what you will about Red's, this place is better tasting and comes without the dubious pricing/vaguely hostile owner. Service is fast, pleasant, and competent. The big benefit is being far enough away from downtown that getting a seat isn't a problem, but it's still close enough for even the tourist set to walk over with a straight shot up Essex. This was a random find, when we were out "witch exploring" in Salem. For sure the location & restaurant are nothing to look at, but the service food and selection of food was beyond amazing.
