Today was a huge MISS @ the restaurant today. With 3 people sitting at the bar and on 3 short tables occupied, I waited for 10 minutes before anyone came to my table to take my order. Came here yesterday for Father's Day and the food was really good the service I give it a 10+ & the ambience was amazing love to look at the lake while eating . Our waiter was super nice he was very attentive and didn't miss a beat when it came to refilling our drinks he definitely was on point with everything I cannot complain. The location is impressive. This restaurant overlooks the lake and it is a breathtaking view. Our server was very kind and helpful. My friends had the gumbo, which they said was outstanding and the coconut shrimp that according to their account was very crispy, but not greasy. I am gluten free so I was somewhat limited. Their dirty rice and fries are not gluten free. That said I ordered the salmon and shrimp with vegetables and a side salad. The portion was really big! I couldn't finish it off. The fish and shrimp were fresh and well seasoned. Wish the salmon was a bit less cooked, but it was ok. Food came in not very hot either. We took my son out tonight for his birthday. The meal was extremely overpriced. They served a filet that wasn't really a fillet, brussel sprouts that weren't cooked through, dry mashed potatoes, frozen calamari that had been microwaved. The place for the most part is a bar. To noisy to visit and most things on the menu are bar food. After paying the bill and a reasonable tip they asked for an additional tip. They actually suggest 25-30% for a party of 4. Dead Fish Grill is one of a kind. It's situated right on Belton Lake and the views are incredible! I came in for a sleepy Wednesday lunch and it was a fantastic experience. The restaurant is colorful and the bar is big (always a plus). It has a distinct Margaritaville vibe. There was literally only one other table in the place when I walked in, and the bartender, Garrett, came up immediately and helped me. I had my drink and food ordered in no time, but I got the vibe Garrett was cool with me chilling and taking my time, too. Good stuff! The menu is great. Lots of seafood but also cool things like extra salad options and seafood taco and po'boy selections. I went with the fried shrimp po'boy and I was super happy. It came open face with lots of shrimp but it closed up pretty good. The sauce and veggies were freaking perfect and the shrimp was nicely cooked. The bun wasn't the classic light and springy bread, it was more like a hero sub, but it worked! A good po'boy has that crunchy chewy sweet and smooth flavor. This one hits all the notes. The fries were delicious and the have amazing house made ranch dressing to dip (if you request it). I could not finish it all, and it made me a little sad. Love the vibe, here! The staff is very friendly and the lake is so beautiful. I'll definitely be coming back to try the rest of the food. read more

Neglectful & Rude. My Husband and I wanted to try Dead Fish Grill because we had never tried it but always heard great things about the food. Unfortunately we didn't get FOOD or SERVICE, after waiting 20 mins and having 2 servers walk by and help other tables including one that sat after we did, it wasn't until we got up to leave that someone finally asked if we'd been helped. Mind you it wasn't crazily busy and we were one of probably 4 tables sitting outside so it's very frustrating that it took us leaving to be noticed with not much traction. They had no ambiance and didn't even seem to care that they drove us away our first time trying to dine with them. This establishment should be ashamed of itself! The definition of customer service went completely out the window from the moment we sat down. Do yourself a favor and don't come back here ever again, and here's why!!! We get in around 7:40 and our sever took 10mins (if not longer) just to drop off water. We wanted to order appetizers for the table (two couples and a kid btw... ) so we order chips and queso, bacon wrapped quail, and calamari. We didn't even place our dinner order yet because we wanted the appetizers to come out first. Well 30mins later 2 of our cold appetizers came out and let's just put it this way the Chips and Queso was not one of them to come out. By the time the servers saw the appetizers hit our table, he took our food order and assured us that the chips and queso would come out. Lol it did but hold on there's more... Our main course came out and it was COLD AF!!!! The kid had a kids cheeseburger and the wife had a kid's cheeseburger with bacon and ranch on the side... she never got her bacon or ranch and it all felt as if it was sitting on table waiting to be ran out but never did. The husbands both ordered lobster ravioli and that was cold and had a film as if it was sitting waiting to be run as well. I ordered the scalloped primavera and that tasted like cold over cooked noodles with pepper on it!!!!! We were pissed because not once did he follow the steps of service and properly check on our table. We were completely out of water with 0 refills on site and by the time he came to our table, we told him the food is completely cold and gross. He then went to the manager who was too busy to address us either because of how we looked or because he just didn't care about the customers and the company's reputation. We weren't looking for free food, we just wanted the food that we ordered to be cooked correctly. I'm sorry but if you're going to charge those prices for food you better put out quality food. This establishment really needs proper training on steps of service and they need to train their staff because this is a direct representation of YOUR COMPANY!!! Jim, Well I said 3 months ago I would never go back and we did for Father's Day! Things haven't changed. Owners added on a 3% charge on every bill if you pay with credit or debit and they don't tell you up front. Very misleading! And, you still have to ask for silverware and napkins 3 times per visit because the stingy owners won't purchase enough silverware. The staff is working their butts off and the owners are making a killing while running off their customers. Wake up owners! Enough of this crap! Today is Father's Day at 6:00 pm and this place was empty. Parking spaces up front. We knew something was wrong when we pulled up! Families all around us having the same issues. Horrible Management!! This place is good if you want seafood in the Lake Belton area. I definitely can recommend their queso or calamari, then the shrimp tacos. The tacos were soooooo good just wish they came with 3 instead of 2 for that price. Only weird thing that I noticed is that they don't have any regular fish and chips which is unfortunate because it's such an easy thing to whip up. They have so many fish options: Catfish, Mahi, Trout, Salmon, Flounder, and Snapper. When we took my (out of state) parents here, my dad was pretty disappointed they didn't have any regular fried fish and chips option. Also, the staff is fairly young which I understand, but I've noticed each time I've been here, 3+ times, with my in-laws, they've always lacked on service in some way. Interesting for such a good spot. Beautiful view overlooking the water definitely made up for how long we had to wait last time for our bill and boxes. Had things to distract us haha. We also just happened to eat their on their last night of the cannon firing at sunset every night. Can't believe they've gotten rid of it. Dead Fish Grill is raising their game since the new General Manager has arrived. There is a notable difference with attentive and friendly service (some of their staff hasn't gotten the Memo yet that you actually have to Smile and be Attentive, though it's not fair to characterize the rest of their team by a couple of subpar employees). The food menu is basic, though done well and turned out quickly with a stunning view of Lake Belton which is always on point! I'd like to pay attention to their specialty events which are 100% elevating their game! Their Holiday Wine Dinner was excellent with a special menu that was creative and outstanding (not available in their regular menu) and wine from a Los Pinos Ranch Vineyards of Texas that was expertly paired with each course. Their banquet room was the setting for this evening event that featured great, live music too. We look forward to the next wine dinner! The following week they hosted a NYE event on their spacious back deck over looking Lake Belton. The crowd was filled with happy party goers enjoying great food and beverages by their fast working staff. Logan in particular was rocking his tables like a pro and added to the fun environment for the tables he was working. Major Kudos for having the great Texas Artist, Hadden Sayers perform both events! be careful with your card info and how long the bartender COdy has your credit card. went and had a seafood platter and sat at the bar. woke up this morning to a macombs county Michigan 37th district court cost payment and a swift something or another that seemed to be tied to some sort of lumber out of the dallas area for 600 on my card. obviously I'll be reimbursed but this card hasn't been used in months. called up and asked to speak to a manager and was hit with a why? tried to explain myself and the whole situation and she refused to assist so I reiterated that's why I asked for a manager. she fires back so is this a complaint? I asked her what the issue was getting to a manager... finally I get a random guy on the phone who also deflects but with a little more attitude and finally says let me get the general manager and then I hear him in the background dismissing my concern before he finally gives the phone to a general mgr who immediately jumps into what he heard from the prior two people rather than hearing me out. so after I get him off of his education tour I explain the situation and ask the gentleman's name who had worked the bar and was refused which I can understand for privacy but a first name should of been fair when most establishments wear name badges. i then also tell him that i didn't expect to get a name but i did expect for you to hear me out and then tell me you would take it into strong consideration moving forward which when addressed he said oh of course im a controller so ill keep an eye. a little more concern for the patron is to be expected And could of put me at ease. the gentleman i SUSpECt had complete sleeve tattoos and his hair was very short dirty blonde. it could be a coincidence but based off of the reaction and general lack of concern I'd have to warn you and hope you take heed to the concern. food was okay and fast and the view is great. read more

My boyfriend and I were told to check out this restaurant out this restaurant not to long ago and we always passed by it when we go through Belton. We we arrived we saw a lot of cars in the parked lot so we figured it would be a very long wait. We went inside to add our names on this list. She told us it would be about 15-20 mins for an outside table. So we went back to our car and soon as we sat down we got a text saying our table was ready. I kind of chucked a little. We went outside to the table wow the view of the lake was beautiful. They even had someone playing live music. I could appreciate that. I did hear barking so I suppose to can bring your dog to eat with you. The menu itself didn't look too appetizing but I just asked the waiter what he preferred which I know wasn't the best but I sure was hoping for the best. I got the blackened fish with comes with coleslaw, fries and corn. He got the Cajun pasta. He loved his and me on the other hand I gave it a 5/10. I've been a chef for 17 years, I love giving business to local restaurants. Dead Fish Grill is my second visit. To get 5 stars I consider 5 different categories Atmosphere: Number one best view out of all the restaurants surrounding Killeen. Even outside in the heat it's worth sitting lake side and at night they have torches lit. Good music, relaxing, semi formal but still chill environment Service: The server (Megan) was friendly, honest, attentive, knowledgeable of menu items, and hospitable, knowing it was 100 degrees out we insisted on sitting outside and they were nice enough to set a fan up and adjust it. The only thing I'd request in the future is a dessert menu. Luckily the knowledgeable server knew what desserts they had off hand. Presentation: While overall the presentation was good the issue is they use frozen vegetables, cuts are inconsistent, they were not over cooked but the broccoli florets looks abused, veggies were just kind of piled on. With fresh vegetable mix you can control all of these things. They can be cut and prepped up to 3 days out. Price: A little over 20 for the trout, and a bit more for a mahi-mahi. Reasonable price for the experience and portion sizes, I don't feel bad about spending my money at all. Flavor: none of the fish or vegetables were seasoned very well, they needed more salt, the vegetables appeared to be steamed briefly rather than sautéed or roasted so they had no butter and remained a bit bland, my girlfriend that doesn't eat much salt had to salt her fish as well. Luckily they keep a caddy on the table and while it takes a bit away from the aesthetic I was grateful to have the opportunity to season my food myself Even with the few notes it's an awesome place that I'd return to and spend money, and grateful the restaurant is close by. read more

Clearly a Love It or Hate It kind of a place based on the reviews, we're in the prior group! I was apprehensive based on the reviews, but my dad heard it was good and wanted to try it out. So we did. The view, we'll that's well established. A gorgeous view of the lake! The food was good, not great or life changing, but a solid "good". The catfish was fresh, moist, mild flavored, and hot. The queso dip was good, could have been a little warmer for my taste but not cold by any means. Our server (Sorry, didn't catch her name) was awesome! She made sure we were taken care of and didn't make us feel rushed. She took care of some special requests without batting an eye. And me being a restaurant veteran, I watched her and she took care of all of her tables very well. She almost never walked through the section without looking at all of her tables to see how it looked like they were doing.
