Solid spot. Went here to see a band- apparently Casa De Oro has a growing music scene, who knew?- and we were pleasantly surprised. Diverse and social crowd, great service, and reasonable drink prices. It's a bit out of our way, but I have started checking their music offerings and we would be happy to go back. Just moved to the area and have been there twice. Tonight they had a guy singing who was really good. SO love the place and bartenders. Christie made me a great margarita tonight, reasonable and delicious!!!! She has a darling personality and the other patrons ALL are nice. They're still open... kind of, but this place is lame, lame, laaaame. When I lived in the area I would come here all the time, just cause it was down the street. Half the time they'd run out of the 3 beers they have on tap but the worst part... sometimes they'd close as early as 8 o' clock! I don't think they even open anymore till like 3 in the afternoon. Expect to see your fair share of tweakers and head cases who live at the half way house just down the street. 75 cents for pool seems a little steep when you can barely play a game cause the sticks are so bad. Sucks Piper's across the street from here had to close down... now that was a cool bar. read more

My wife and I stopped by this place after Octoberfest in La Mesa. Saw some reviews on here and checked out their website to see what live band was playing. I YouTube the band that was playing, I Believe they were call Patrick Howard Trampus. Well I love country music, and this band was awesome. They play everything from Jason Aldean to Merle Haggard. One the owner (Guillermo) introduce himself and his family. They were awesome people, I believe I found my new hangout. Also Guillermo even invited me to his birthday party tomorrow! read more

Its upgraded bigtime. Its OPEN!. I have visited several times in the afternoon or early evening. The bartenders has always been nice every visit.outside patio, assuming its mostly for smokers as that seems normal enough. I like the people watching and enjoy the beers, pulled right from the ice! What can I say that hasn't been said. The sign from the outside looks very unassuming, giving this place the lower end dive bar look, and I was hesitant to check it out...I can stay home and drink if it means being bothered by confrontational bar flies. But I was pleasantly surprised. Cheap drinks, great selection, bar tender was exactly what you could want in a bartender, friendly, informative and that kind of chatty that opens up the anti socials like me. Pool tables, Kareoke, live bands with a stage, televisions, juke box, outside patio....all of the ingredients for a neighborhood bar. I will absolutely be frequenting this bar and I look forward to introducing everyone I can to it. read more

To start off, I'd like to apologize for the long review but I feel there are multiple issues that need to be addressed. Not everything about this bar is completely terrible and I'd like to say that the owners and bartenders are extremely nice people. They are the only people that would ever even make me think about stepping foot in this bar again. My husband and I both agree that Wanda is one of the best bartenders we've ever had. She's very knowledgeable, personable, and attentive which are the defining features in an excellent bartender. So we've been here a couple of times and it seemed like one of our new favorite dive bars but it seems to me that as soon as the owners leave, this place gets filled with a bunch of rowdy men who get too drunk and want to fight people who aren't even doing anything. Then you have these other men who have been coming to the place for years thinking that when the owners leave they run the place. I'm not quite sure if they even work for the bar but one in particular walks around telling people they are cut off when they aren't causing any problems then they proceed to sit there and get visibly drunk along with all the other men who are actually causing problems and trying to start fights. Not only do they cut people off but I guess it's also okay for them to kick people out because they get upset when two men try to start a fight when it was said multiple times that they didn't want any trouble and only came to play pool and spend some time with each other. But like I said, it's okay to let those type of people stay in the bar and continue drinking. Now to get to the good part... my husband and I are outside the bar right by the gas station next door and this guy from the bar comes out of no where and sucker punches my husband right in the face. Then this other guy who thinks he works for the bar too walks over to my husband and puts him in a headlock because my husband gets a tad bit upset that SOME RANDOM GUY JUST SUCKER PUNCHED HIM IN THE FACE. Now by this time, there's about ten of us out there and this random guy is still yelling trying to fight my husband for whatever reason. I step in and tell him to be quiet and stop trying to fight him because we don't even know who he is or what we did to him. Then I'm told by said guy that I better back off or else I'm going to get punched in the face too. Hold up... this guy who's towering over 6 feet just threatened to punch a woman half his size in the face and these "guys who work for the bar" are totally okay with it??? Not that it would of hurt... because he hit like a b****. Just because he didn't hit as hard as he thought he did and didn't even phase my husband, now he's going to threaten to get in a fight with a woman to show that he really is a man and can fight? But besides all of this happening, the people that think they work for the bar just because they come get wasted all the time actually let this guy back into the bar to continue drinking. WOW.. so needless to say, ladies... if your looking for that ever so epic bar fight with a man who's twice your size THIS IS YOUR PLACE. If you're looking for a place with people who condone that type of behavior, THIS IS YOUR PLACE. If your looking for a bar that's going to cut a slightly intoxicated person off who's not causing any problems but then proceeds to let very very intoxicated people continue to drink, THIS IS YOUR PLACE. If you're not even inside of the bar anymore and you're at the gas station next door but you want people from the bar in your face telling you to get off of the bar property, THIS IS YOUR PLACE. To wrap things up, this place is nice probably any time before 5 pm then all hell breaks loose and stuff that you thought wasn't okay, guess what.. it is here. So trouble makers, lady bar fighters, people who like getting cut off when you're minding your own business, and people who like getting punched for no reason, I strongly urge you to visit this bar and you WILL NOT be disappointed. If I myself ever feel the need for any of these things listed above I will most certainly be visiting this bar again. read more

This place ROCKS! I wish I lived closer to this hidden GEM. I have been to this place a few times in the past month or so and it is always a good time. The staff is friendly and the beers are very cold. Just my style. I also like how you can go to the back patio and have a smoke without having to leave your drink inside the bar. The TV's are all new HD flat panels and they seem to always have football on Sundays. They have nice pool tables, darts and a new music box. I think that there is something for everyone here. This is by far the worst dive bar I have been to and yes I have been to them all and worked in some of the best. THE OWNER sits at the bar and drinks all night, I have seen him there a few times and he is DRUNK. Starring at the customers and honestly made us feel uncomfortable as if we were not welcome there, funny thing is we live down the street and tipped the bartender well. The owner had an ap on his phone to skip the songs on juke box, we had just put $15 in there and he skipped our music. Next Visits he was there again and so drunk he couldn't open up the door to the liquor room, I actually snap chatted this mess. Fumbling with the keys, dropping the keys and finally another guy came to open it up and get the beer for the bartenders. This could be a cool place but your bar will never be successful when you spend more time on the other side of the bar drinking your profits and making the customers uncomfortable. All of the people that were there were with us are also in the industry and were blown away by this place. the one positive was the bartenders were always nice and poured a good drink! However I will not contribute to this establishment again. read more

When I lived in the area a few years ago, I went to this place at least once a week. My bungalow was close by and the walk down there was a little scary. Casa de oro is GHETTO but livin is cheap. The bartenders were always awesome and remembered who you were. Once and a while they would buy you a drink or give you a shot of their new concoction. The bar has a pretty good local scene except this 40 or 50 year old bald biker wannabe skinhead that thinks he owned the place. It is fun to play pool there because if there are not any tournaments, some old pool shark can show you tricks on how to play better. It is a place that if you went alone and sat at the bar, it was always easy to talk to the group next to you and share stories. The bands were always just okay (greatful dead tribute bands ect) Is it that hard to get a decent cover band? Thats what I and everyone wants to hear! This Bar is under new Ownership. I've met Fadi and Wayne and WOW how nice are they!!!! Previously, this bar was run down a bit and the staff wasn't as attentive as they should be.... Now, it retains that "Local Bar" feel but it's such an improved feel and that all starts with the owners. It made me feel like family the very first time. I found out that the owners have known each other for a long time and decided to make a go of this - GREAT DECISION! Fadi has multiple years in service industries and it shows.
