I wanted to get frozen custard again so I wanted to find a place to eat in Queens since the frozen custard is in Queens. pros 1.clean and even cleaner than most of the places I have been to in Queens. 2.service was very accommodating and quick , they made a cheese enchilada for me and it wasn't on the menu only chicken was. 3. spices were pretty authentic cons 1.limited menu 2.standard not great food 3.nothing outstanding on the menu that I can't get anywhere else. It is fairly easy to get authentic tacos in New York City but it isn't easy to get a full menu authentic Mexican restaurant in New York City. In short... Very good mole indeed. Because the name of the restaurant is "De Mole" it makes it a bit confusing on the menu. The "Nachos de Mole" doesn't have any mole in it AT ALL. Rather, it is regular Nachos with beans, Pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole. Is that confusing or what?? Something has got to be done about that. Lol... I'm sure I'm not the first. 1 star off here. I would order just mole items. We also had steak that day and it was dry as heck. The mole chicken was very good and one of the best moles we have ever had. It was very well balanced, sweet and savory. Some places make it way too sweet. But they did well here. The other issue I had is service. They served the water and a tiny bit of salsa and bag of chips AFTER you order everything. Omg, can't I get some water when I sit down? I ordered a soda so I didn't get water at all. When I finished my soda, no one asked me if I wanted another or have some water. No one even looked my way and it wasn't busy there. Otherwise.... This is a lovely little hidden Mexican restaurant where they take great care in serving more traditional Mexican foods. My favorite items are the chiles en nogada (seasonal) and the flor de calabaza and huitlacoche quesdadilla.I have yet to try any other entrees because I love these items so much. At first, we were given a sample of their very own De Mole Roasted Tomato Salsa and fresh tortilla chips. For an appetizer, I ordered the Ceviche de Veracruz (Choice of scallops or poached fish). I would've preferred a spicier version of this classic appetizer but, honestly, diced tomato, cucumber, onion, avocado, and we mustn't forget cilantro, cradled inside a crunchy tortilla? You can't beat that. I chose a mainstay as my entree, Enchilades Verdes con Pollo. It was very clean and fresh. I felt that it wasn't as heavy as I am accustomed too. My girlfriend chose a more risky venture and gave in to her carnivorous urges by ordering the skirt steak, one of the night's specials. It was cooked to temp accompanied by tender black beans and fluffy Spanish-style rice. The staff, accustomed to all types of diners, suggested something on the lighter side such as, el Mole salad with Grilled Tiger Shrimp. Or try their Grilled Tilapia Fillet with Achiote Salad. If you're in the mood for takeout, De Mole offers a wide range of tacos that include such ingredients as, pastor (pork with pineapple) and nopales (cactus). Their tortas, or hand-rolled sandwiches, range from chorizo sausage to braised pork leg and are served with red re-fried beans, avocado, onion, tomato, lettuce, and homemade pickled jalapenos. I imagine you can bring your own alcoholic beverages for the bar was lined with soft drinks and juices. At the end of it all, if you still have one once of wiggly room left, don't hesitate. This place had a lot to offer on their menu. Being a vegetarian I wanted to get one of the seitan things (burrito or fajitas). I opted for the fajitas. It was a large plate full of good stuff. The flavor was good as well. It was nice actually having chunky pico de gallo and chunky guacamole, rather than the saucy substances that are in most of Manhattan Mexican places. The food was a little cold. I was satisfied with what I got. It was $10, though, which is quite a lot. My wife got 2 tamales, which were $1.50 each. She made out easy on the bill lol. The one thing I will say is that the service was SUPER slow. I think they only had one chef and one waiter. Someone came in and wanted a table and the guy told him "10-15 minutes". All we were doing was waiting for the check so we thought he would be able to sit soon! Nope. Took about 10 minutes to get the check and get it charged and get the thing to sign. May have needed some Tabasco or some sauce to make it more memorable. 'De Mole Nachos' is a great choice for an appetizer. $205 for a table of 11, so cheap and the food was so good. The place is small but really good. While we waited for our table, we had some guacamole with chips, it was pretty good. We also got some salsa with our chips too but the salsa wasnt that good, it taste water down and had no salsa favor. In addition, we had sangria with our meal, the sangria wasnt really strong. I ordered the grilled steak quesadillas, it was so amazing!! It was also a huge order, I only ate two of them and felt kind of stuffed. I also ordered a pineapple and pork taco. It was different from how i imagine, I thought it was going to come in a hard taco but it came in a soft taco. In addition, I thought the taco was going to have pork and pieces of pineapple, but it only had pork. It taste like they cooked it in some pineapple sauce, so it tasted like pork dipped in pineapple sauce and not pork with pineapple pieces. My bf ordered the deep fried seabass, it was so good, fried to perfection. I kept stealing some of his fish. I heard the flan is really good, we brought our own cake because it was to celebrate a birthday but next time I want to try it. For our entrees, I ordered the steak fajitas. The steak was okay, it wasnt seasoned well, but everything else on my plate was good. We also ordered two tacos, steak and the roasted pork. The pork was tough, they cooked it with the skin on it so it was kinda chewy. Service- Our server was okay. She brought out the food quickly, so as long as I get to eat im happy. The Mole Poblano was delicious and has a nice sauce, almost similar to a soy/ginger asian sauce. I would have liked to have seen more rice and beans on the side, since the plate was swimming in mole sauce. The chicken was tender but didn't really have much of a flavor besides the Mole sauce on top. I got a pork taco and the meat was amazing. I'd definitely come back to try more of their meat dishes. Only downside is they are literally meat and taco shell - no cheese, guace, sauce... nothing. It was a bit dry (and they wouldn't give me more salsa) The burrito was pretty big and tasty. Can't really taste the meat so its probably better to just go with the cheaper priced ones. The chips were standard, and the salsa was pretty good. However, hey give you a huge bowl of chips and a tiny bowl of salsa complimentary. When I asked extra SALSA, I was told there would be a CHARGE to get more salsa. No thanks. Do i need to pay for ketchup too? On the same note, a small bowl of Guacamole costs almost $8 WTF. Meanwhile loaded nachos costs LESS. WTF This is backwards to me - its fucking guac The beers were good and I tried the Michalada for $6. Its definitely pretty gimmicky. This place is a gem in my neighborhood. Great food at a great price. I love getting their micheladas during brunch. I have been here about 3,4 times, and I have always had a very pleasant experience. I usually get their guacamole + chips as an appetizer and then have 3 tacos as my entree. The place is small, so the wait staff is pretty attentive. Staff was so bad!!! We noticed the Sangria was being watered down with a lot of ice so we asked for less. But instead they gave us less Sangria. We spoke to a manger about it and he was so nastyyyyy. Definitely a little diamond tucked away in rad Sunnyside. My friend and I came here once for a sit-down dinner. It was a chilly evening but De Mole was cozy and inviting. The servers were extremely amiable and friendly. We were also treated to complimentary chips and salsa, a true rare specimen in NYC. I got a pork torta that was excellent, big, and only $6.75! De Mole really sold me on their coconut flan ($4) too since I'm not a flangirl. Well, my friend technically ordered this but I made sure to have a bite. My dessert was liquid: a strawberry milkshake ($3.50). Maybe not the milkshake to rule over all other milkshakes (not super creamy), but not bad. More recently, I got a lunch order to-go, ringing up De Mole and then picking up a short amount of time later. The carne asada torta ($6.75) was very pleasing though I forgot to request no jalapenos so my mouth suffered a little. The squash blossom quesadilla ($3.50) was a perfect accompaniment. I can't believe I've never reviewed this place. I think I've been going here for about six years and it never disappoints. Everything is above average and I do mean everything. Service, presentation, food quality, you name it. I've never had a bad meal here......however, if I was to nitpick, they are a little chintzy with the chips and their Amazin' roasted tomato salsa. And, it IS as Amazin' as the Mets. The tamales, tortas, deMole nachos, and huevos rancheros are among the MANY standouts on their menu. The vegetarian options are fantastic, as well. I've had this restaurant bookmarked for awhile and I was finally able to go. I went with a friend, we got here around 5:50 PM on Thursday night; we found parking on the street right away in front of De Mole. It's on a corner and has a bench outside, I'm guessing it gets crowded since the inside is very small! Luckily, when we walked in it was empty so we picked a cozy table by the window and ordered drinks right away. We both opted for a glass of the red sangria which was recommended by the waiter; as soon as we got our drinks complimentary chips and salsa followed. The chips came in a cute little paper bag, they weren't hot but they were very crunchy and perfect for dipping. I hate flimsy chips that break as soon as you scoop them into the sauce, so these passed the dipping test. The salsa was different it wasn't watery or too hot, the consistency was thicker and it was a light red, I couldn't figure out what was different about it, but I really enjoy it. For an app, we decided on the De Mole nachos with steak; chips, guac, pico de gallo, sour cream, and black beans at the bottom (pictured). I really enjoyed this dish, it wasn't a large serving, it was perfect for two people and the presentation was cute, I was surprised at the calculated nacho placement. The chips were thick and crunchy, the toppings were fresh, the steak was shredded so there weren't any awkwardly large pieces to grab, and the beans at the bottom were a nice touch, I've never seen that before, I really liked it! The nachos were a hit, so onto drink number two which was white sangria, it was too sweet and not that strong the red is way better. For the entree, I ordered the carne asada and my friend got the chicken fajita, we shared so I had a bit of each. I must say I enjoyed the chicken fajita more because the chicken was seasoned well and it was tossed with peppers and onions, my steak, on the other hand, was bland and a bit tough. Each dish was served with warm tortillas which helped my steak out, I use one or two and packed it with many toppings like rice and beans since it was served with both dishes and the guac and pico de gallo which came with the chicken fajita. The rice and beans were good, nothing special they were on par with most Mexican/Spanish restaurants, I've been to. No dessert, we were stuffed! I enjoyed De Mole, I thought it was a cute little spot with slowish service, good food, good parking, decent sangria, and a relaxed atmosphere. I was craving some Mexican for dinner and immediately thought of Tortilleria Nixtamal in Corona because it's awesome, but then thought, why not try someplace new. So after doing a quick search on Yelp we decided on De Mole. Since we couldn't find a place to park the car, we just ordered take out to take home. Tamales: IMO on the dry side and not the usual moist texture that I've experienced in the past. Carne Asada Burrito: Nicely done with steak, beans rice and sour cream, on first sight it seemed to have potential. Once I took a bite that thought changed. When I think carne asada I think tender beef bursting with flavor. However it was actually bland and quite tough. Chicken Enchiladas with Red Sauce: Came with black beans and rice, which were OK. The red sauce was also not bad, but again the chicken inside was bland and on the tough side. All in all I was left disappointed and wished I had gone with my initial instinct to go to Tortilleria Nixtamal. I would have given it the 2 start "Meh" rating, but since my fiancee liked it more than me, I upped it to a 3 star. read more

Nicole and I were hungry on Saturday so we decided to go out on a date. We originally went to MexiQ in Astoria and the wait was an hour... Should have known better. We're Regulars at Chips on Queens Blvd., and for good reason. Their food is consistently awesome. We were already about to try a new place and we heard Yelpers say that De Mole was better than Chips so here we go. The menu is more vast than Chips. Hands down. The Nopales Burrito that I ordered (Cactus Pad, peeled and sauteed) was really tasty and must have been over 1lb. of food. Nopales tastes a bit like a crunchy Zucchini married with fresh English Cucumber. The thing that confuses me is that I felt that everything was underseasoned. Nicole and I remark often that we dont know why Chips has salt and pepper on the table. You never need them. I hate to judge a place on one visit and maybe it was an off night for the chef but it seemed like the food wasn't something that blew me away (a-la Chips, which is go-to-bed-right-away good). Next up the mushroom quesadilla: mushrooms were cooked well but not bursting with flavor, and AGAIN barely warm. Next up, our burritos; shrimp,chicken and veggie burritos: I asked for no sour cream in mine, and there was sour cream. Flavors were all pretty good and the burrito was HUGE, but yet AGAIN.....BARELY WARM! Noticing a pattern? Yep, nothing is hot! At first this was a minor demotion, but became very annoying that we had to heat everything back up in a frying pan. Sorry to report that this place has gone downhill. We ordered our traditional Valentine's Day dinner via delivery, and it was not as good as usual. Portions have gotten smaller (the tostada salad and nachos apps are ridiculously tiny and NOT cheap!) as the prices continue to rise. Even the burritos, our old dependable, were a bit smaller with almost no beans and they added pico de gallo to the inside. That's a no no for me. I know every place does these things differently, but we've ordered Mole for years, so I don't appreciate the changes. It's always been above average so we didn't mind paying a little more. I order from here regularly and have been to the restaurant a few times. The food is delicious and there are plenty of options for vegans. You can even veganize the nachos! When ordering over the phone you have a 50/50 chance of having a good experience. There's a guy who can be a bit.... impolite. Their beef quesadilla is awful! It weighed hardly anything in the bag and when I opened it there was mostly lettuce inside these tiny tortillas!
