I started with my scallop ceviche without tomatoes and then decided not to order a main course because the ceviche had two pieces of tomato in it PLUS the avocado was brown and there was very little lime. Disappointed I got some of their amazing pinto beans (as that tends to be reliable). I normally order a couple of tacos (Barbacoa, carne asada and nopales/cactus) and quadadillas tradicionales (squash blossom is a must try!). I also recommend their Tinga de Puebla (beef brisket stew) or Pollo con Mole Poblano (chicken leg with red rice, beans and mole sauce). POLLO CON MOLE POBLANO - Super tender fall off the bone chicken with rice/beans/tortillas and an ADDICTING mole sauce (can't describe the taste of it, but it's amazing). This dish alone sold me on this place. Carne asada quesadilla (decent), chicken taquitos (terribly small in size), papaya milkshake (bland) and tres leches cake weren't too memorable for me. Alright, so when it comes to getting food, nothing beats Queens, and when it comes to Queens, it's difficult to beat Sunnyside. In terms of population mix, there is a population of Romanians and Turks up north, Koreans towards the middle, the Irish towards Roosevelt Avenue, and Latinos along the south. If you walk down Queens blvd you will no doubt run into a mixture of all those ethnicities, with the south side dominated by relatively upscale Latin joints. Due to the influx of the B24/B39 bus you will often find hipsters sneaking up past the cemeteries from Billyburg, Bushwick or Ridgewood. They definitely leave their marks upon the local foodscape by leaving accidentally hilarious reviews - "This places does not offer unisex bathrooms the tempeh burrito isn't made with non-GMO beans, I got the runs and daddy's health insurance won't cover me past 26". Yeah, great. For those of us whose experience in Mexican cuisine involves a talking chihuahua, oversized corn saddles and ketchup packets of "picante sauce" (sure, if your idea of exotic cuisine includes The Olive Garden), this is not how you do things in Mexico (us Chinese don't freaking fry rice with pork and serve it with heavily sauced fried nuggets of pork either, but try to convince the wonderbread customers of Panda Express. The mixing pot narrative encourages some poor attempts at culinary endeavors). Mexican food isn't about refried beans or the Red Hook sludge (something raw slimy and green, aka pre-shredded iceberg, combined with mediocre shredded yellow cheese, slathered with meaty diarrhea). It's about freshly roasted and ground spices, fresh ingredients and everything made by hand with attention to detail. Enter De Mole. It's located on a somewhat quieter part of South Sunnyside on 48th Avenue. South Sunnyside have some really decent eats - I heart Paraguay, Cemitas de Tigre, The Haab, Turkish Mangal and some very good local taquerias and pollos joints. So what makes De Mole more interesting than its cousin The Haab (they are both in the business of slinging overpriced Mexican brunches in a premium dining environment)? One word? Depth. If you want to go beyond simply the usual huevos rancheros but don't have the huevos to hit taquerias in the Mexicano neighborhoods for something different? Well, here's your safe space for them. I mean, granted, you are not getting chile lime grasshoppers or pigs ears with your tacos, but if you want a torta sandwich with oaxaca cheese, pickled jalapenos, tomatoes and braised pork leg (*gasp!* it's not a fried cutlet), or if you want your quesadilla packed with squash blossoms and corn smut (fungus infected corn, looks like bird poop but taste great) - this is where you would go. Go ahead and order yourself a glass of aqua fresca (flor de Jamaica is always good), because it's pretty close to what you will get in Sunset park. That being said, my wife said that on her mole poblano, the rice on the side is kinda bland, and the quesadilla that I wolfed down is garnished with iceberg lettuce...clear signs of some serious cost-cutting regression there. Hopefully it's not like some reviewers pointed out - that they used to taste better. For me, I know of cheaper and more rewarding places, but if I have to take people for a Mexican brunch (and they are getting bored of The Haab or La Flor on 52nd), this is a good pick. read more

What great service! And the food is delicious! The locals have got this one right. De Mole is easily one of the top eats in Sunnyside. Order one of each Quesadillas Tradicionales. They're only about $3.50 ea. and totally worth it. I'll bet the Tinga (shredded brisket Puebla style) is most likely going to be a favorite so order more of that. I think this is my 2nd review of De Mole. I come here every week or so with my dad, I have had christmas celebrations here, I even just stop by for coconut flan. I went to a family event last night and l left so full. Cute cozy place in Sunnyside. We had a nice space for our party. The food was family style and the appetizers were delicious. We started w/ queso fundido w / chorizo AHHmazing. The "Vertical Nachos" were served in a bowl and all the ingredient were on the bottom and the chips on top. So kind of like a dip. That was so yummy as well. Entree- chicken mole enchiladas. They have never been fav but everyone raved about how good it was. The Seabass was flavorful and the fajitas Tex-mex was ok. The food here is great and always consistent. They have a ton of options for those with food restrictions, including many vegan options. Their seitan is amazing. I've lived in the area for about 2 years but never tried this place. This January I decided to give it a shot. To be honest the first time was good satisfying to say the least, but since January between eating in and ordering out about 4 times it's just gone downhill. As far as food the guacamole is great, pretty fresh as is their house salad. Quesidillas are mediocre from the mushroom to chicken but that's really not why this place gets a poor review. For what once might have been potential for Michelin. The restaurants Penny picking is just terrible. It's like paying extra for everything, like the house salsa, something that if You are eating in restaurant should just be comp, with quesildillas usually comes sour cream but no you get up charged for that too. Wait you ordered coffee for BRUNCH you're paying for every cup in an empty restauarant where you just made a pot. I understand the times but if you want customers to come back you cannot nickel and dime them. Ordered from them a couple of times, specifically asked twice to have part of the meal in a separate container because I don't like it but my son does, yet they send it in the same 3 item tray where the delivery guy spills it all over everything else in the meal. Clear directions ignored, tried to resolve it with the owner but he'd rather create excuses than solve the problem. So for a customer that ate here four times in January 2022 who had never eaten here before the experience trended down and they won't be seeing another dollar from myself or my family in the area. **THIS REVIEW IS FOR DELIVERY** We had been to the De Mole in Astoria and had been completely and totally underwhelmed so we had no desire to try this location, but... a couple people spoke about the quality of the food and based on Yelp reviews we figured we'd give it a try. We ordered on a Friday night. We ordered a veggie burrito, a shrimp burrito, a chicken burrito, 2 quesadillas, 1 sincronizada, and 1 taco. The food arrived within the expected delivery window. The quesadillas & sincronizada were cold, the shrimp burrito was Luke warm, the chicken burrito was cold and the veggie burrito was Luke warm. We live a couple blocks away, I realize the food will cool off a bit in transport but this was redic (especially since the rice and beans in the burrito would retain heat). In regards to flavor it was average at best. The Flor de Calabaza quesadilla and the huitlacoche quesadilla were mediocre at best. The cheese sincronizada was tasty but it's hard to mess this up (except it was cold). All items were served without any accoutrements. For all this food they sent 2 hot sauces. Having a ton of other Mexican restaurants to dine at or order delivery from there is zero reason to ever eat the food from here. read more

We had the white sangria to drink and for food we had the enchiladas de pollo con mole poblano and tacos (pastor, carne asada, & carnitas). The sangria was tasty, but relatively small compared to sangria at some other places. The enchiladas were good, but the sauce was perhaps a tad sweet. The tacos were generally good, but the meat and flavorings were overwhelmed by the amount of tortilla shell, making them feel a bit flavorless. I used to live down the street and would come here for every occasion: birthdays, Valentine's Day, etc. They were always kind, always had the best service/food, and charged a fair price for what they offer. Burrito was way too salty, again, had barely any sour cream, and worst of all, there was what appeared to be a piece of sharp wood inside. We used to love this place but my recent visit here shows things are going downhill.. I used to LOVE the guacamole here but the one we had his weekend was just meh. They used to make it fresh and you can still see chunks of avocado in it. This time it was really cold like it been in the fridge too long and the avocado seem watery, not chunky at all. The only thing making the guacamole chunky was the other ingredients. They also had huge piece of onions in it which was a turn off. I hate to thing they are using the store brought avocado! The chicken taquitos were ok but the they cheaped out on the filling. It was mostly shell. My daughter always have the chicken quesadilla and when it arrived, the first thing she said was, what happen...its so small. You know it had to be drastic for a 14 year old to notice it. So not only it got smaller, the quesadilla look like it was sloppily put together. The filling again was less than before. They used so little cheese, it hardly held together! Some friends and resident New Yorkers picked this place for us to have dinner while my boyfriend and I were in town visiting. I didn't look at the menu prior and expected the food to be similar to the Tex-Mex I'm used to eating elsewhere. But I was very wrong! We started with margaritas and chicken taquitos, both of which were some of the best I've ever had. I then ordered the chicken burrito, which is quite large and didn't get finished - though that was only because of the portion size. We ended the meal by ordering both desserts offered to us - the tres leches cake and some kind of frozen chocolate ball filled with fresh fruit and ice cream. I truly wish I'd caught the name of it because between the fun way it was presented (smashed on a sheet of plastic laid on the table beforehand) to how amazing it tasted, I want to recommend it to everyone who could possibly go there. read more

Came here around 6pm Saturday night when it had yet to fill out. Service was on point. Nice dark ambiance. The 3 of us ordered a pitcher of red sangria, which had a nice depth of flavor and refreshment. We also shared the guacamole, which was refreshing and light- would love to get this again. I ordered the tinga quesadilla: It was really good! Liked the texture and cheese, and how it wasn't too heavy. Also ordered 2 tacos- barbacoa and pastor. Pastor was better, but I've had better tacos in NJ. I got the Mexican Hot Chocolate, which came into this super hot mug (even my girlfriend, who can handle hot things b/c of how much she cooks, needed a napkin to grip it). That novelty made it fun to drink, and it was good (I've also had better though). We shared the Tres Leches, which was just ok- a little too sweet, and texture was slightly off. De Mole has been my go to spot for quite a while now. Whenever my craving for Mexican food strikes I make my way here. The restaurant is quite small with two tiny rooms. If you are planning a group gathering I recommend calling and making a reservation. This place is always clean and never too loud. It is a great date spot kind of place, cozy and dimly lit. Their food and service is always on point. I am a fan of the ceviche de Veracruz, shrimp quesadilla, shrimp burrito, coconut flan, and the fresh lemonade. The portions are big so I do recommend sharing or wrapping food to go. If you love spiciness as much as I do, you can request extra spice added to your plate. The prices are dirt cheap. In a seemingly ugly stretch of Woodside, where street and avenue numbers can send the unsuspecting visitor into a tizzy, De Mole does offer a cozy retreat in a cafe-like setting. My expectations were sky-high -- why else would I travel East of the East River? However, my experience would suggest that De Mole can only stand for de-layed, mo-notonous and le-thargic. Service is inattentive and slow, and the staff seems lazy. Fifteen minutes to get the 'complimentary' chips? Well, it certainly wasn't free when you throw in the time value of money. Especially odd since neither the chips, nor the guacomole that we ordered, tasted like they were freshly made. The rest of the fare was tasty in parts, but generally quite bland. The traditional quesadillas are shaped like tacos. I recommend trying them with a combination of oaxaca cheese and beans. The regular quesadillas, labeled sincronizadas, come in a set of four. I quite liked the cheese quesadillas, again with a generous complement of beans. In closing, I must admit that the coconut flan dessert was surprising good. As my friend commented, this might be a good neighborhood restaurant. But it is definitely not worth the long trek if you don't call Woodside home. While we waited for our food, they bought us complementary chips & dip (They do this for everyone). Imagine eating cold steak with cheese Yucky. Enchiladas De Pollo Con Mole Poblano for $13.00 chicken rolled in corn tortilla with mole poblano sauce, red rice, beans, onion & queso blanco. This dish was smothered in mole poblano sauce which made this dish uneatable. The damn sauce was so sweet it destroyed the entire dish. I tried to pour Hotsauce to balance the flavor, but the damn mole poblano sauce overpowered all. There recipe is inedible, the taste of the mole poblano sauce can only be explained by one word "DISGUSTING". The tortillas protected the chicken from the sauce, I decided just to eat the chicken, dammit the chicken tasted extremely bland. Overall this spot has affordable prices for ok food. De Mole has off the chain Mexican food. We made a special trip out here from the farther parts of Queens just to sample their delicious offerings. The guacamole was great! Guac can be made poorly, but here there were plenty of chunks of creamy, appropriately ripe avocado with cilantro, topped with tomato and onion. It was awesome, and the tortilla chips came in a cute little brown paper bag. I appreciated the presentation. Actually, everything looks really pretty on the plate, which is nice in such a small place. The chorizo nachos were OUT OF THIS WORLD. I had never had chorizo before (!!!) but my friend talked me into splitting the dish and I'm glad she did. The chips were also covered in black beans, guacamole, pico de gallo & sour cream, but the chorizo is really what made them stand out. We had to fight over the last bits of meat. My sauteed spinach quesadilla was the low point in all of this culinary goodness. While it tasted quite fine, the spinach made the meal super soggy and that detracted both from the taste as well as my ability to eat it. Next time, I'm not going to bring my new-found health kick to a Mexican restaurant, and I'll just stick with the old cheese plus meat combo. We finished off our meal with the coconut flan. I'm not sure how to describe the cocnut flan except for BEST EVER. It is everything flan is supposed to be. It's also probably about 24043950495893486 calories. Stepping into this place, you'd never expect a Michelin Guide recommended experience--- but that's what you get. Relaxed but attentive service, your glass is never empty and your plates are cleared at a comfortable pace. It is some crazy, affordable, deliciousness, but if you like it spicy--- you'll have to ask for it. Sometimes they forget to mention the specials and I'd highly recommend you remind them to tell you. The skirt steak mole special I got was very satisfying. Only, you can't really order their cut of steak rare, it's better to get it to medium or it's unchewable. My friend went for the traditional chicken mole. The sauce was really gorgeous, thick and aromatic. However, it wasn't the best mole I've ever had (La Taqueria on the UWS). Their homemade tamarind and hibiscus drinks are flavorful and true to traditional methods of brewing but are too sweet. It was like drinking melted candy. The best though were the nachos, it was such a neat presentation for a messy dish and they gave generous amounts of everything you could want on top of fried tortilla chips. This was my second time here. My first visit was a few years ago and I remember thinking the food was alright. Last night I came here with my boyfriend and my opinion hasn't changed much. When we arrived, there was no one at the door to greet us so we sat ourselves. The place is very small. There was only one bartender and one waitress working. The service was slow and we had to ask the waitress for the complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa was only half full; when I asked if we can get a refill because we still had chips left over, she said that it would be an additional charge. I've never heard of this before lol. Plus, I've been to their other location in Astoria and they were not stingy with their salsa. We started with a chicken verde tamale, which was dry. I ordered the steak fajaita, which came with rice, beans, Pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream and tortillas. I felt the food was bland for my taste. I had to add salt and a lot of their house green sauce. The dish did not come with a sufficient amount of steak, and the steak was sliced too thin. The guacamole was fresh, but not as citrusy as I would have liked. Pico de gallo needed lime juice or vinegar. The rice and beans were bland. My boyfriend got the chicken mole. It was soaked in mole sauce, which I didn't mind. It was one of the better tasting mole sauce I've tasted. The chicken was tender and moist. The prices were reasonable. It's actually in the middle of no where. It's a small Mexican restaurant that offers tasty Mexican food that is somewhat Americanized but still really good. I do, however, remember the flavors being a tad sweet. I think people, in general, are confused with Mexican food and just think of Taco bell and Chipotle, I think authentic Mexican food is actually really good. I don't think this place is the most authentic but definitely a gateway to try more authentic Mexican food. They also have an Astoria outpost. The food: Guacamole- I thought the guac was great, very fresh and packed with flavor. The chips have nice flavor and go with the guac well, but the chips are on the thin side and kinda break too easily. Pollo Con Mole Poblano Burrito- chicken w/ mole poblano, sour cream & sesame seeds. Lord have mercy! This dish is prob my fav thing here. The dark meat chicken is super flavorful with the mole sauce, the sauce is a tad sweet but the complexity of the flavor is amazing. Sincronizadas - Quesadillas with grilled chicken- I normally pay the extra for the large, the quesadillas are excellent. The flavors are clean and crisp and the quesedaillas themselves are made well. I really enjoyed the quesadilla, it's more American but the flavors are still great. Pollo Con Mole Poblano- slow cooked chicken leg served with red rice, beans, mole sauce & corn tortillas. I noticed tonight up on arrival that the waitstaff had been change a little. The place was crowded for a wednesdy night, walked in at 7pm and were seated right away. We order the following appetizers: Chicken Flautas a plentiful serving of 6 deep fried golden chicken flautas top with cheese, crema and shredded lettuce. Scallop Ceviche is a very small portion, hardly enough to be called a scallop ceviche. They serve the Ceviche on a deep fried tortilla shell (the tortilla shell is shaped into a bowl and its edible) it has a small of onion, guacamole, cilantro, fresh lime juice and diced scallop. The dice of scallop is not visible and hardly felt on the palate. Everyonedicedhe table agreed, we could have done without it as really the scallop was not there at all, good flavors and nice presentation but that was it. Guacamole and chips: a tiny bag of chips for a table of 4ppl, accompanied by freshly made guacamole and a spicy tomato sauce on the side, awesome goodness but the miser bag of chips was more like a serving for 1 person. Main course was diverse, we had chicken quesadilla which was delicious, Mahi mahi tacos, enchiladas de pollo con mole and a pierna torta. The quesadilla is standard 7 inch, freshly made corn tortilla with chicken, lettuce, crema and cheese pressed nicely and served piping hot. The tacos are served on soft warm tortillas with a cabbage slaw, a deep fried piece of fish guacamole and crema. The torta was a very good size torta stuffed with delicious pork, bean paste, cheese, tomato, lettuce, and i questioned the fact that it had no pickled jalapenos but it was delicious. Instead we got a green and a red sauce that you can put on your torta. I recomended the green sauce, creamy cilantro jalapeno sauce that goes with anything you order on the menu. The red sauce is just ok, nothing special. Last but not least the enchiladas de pollo were very tasty, it came with yellow rice and a side of black beans and 2 enchiladas. They pour enough mole sauce over the enchilada not to over soak the food but just the right amount of mole sauce. My favorite dish, as it is well put together. At the end of the dinner the bill was $60plus tip.. Service is always attentive, certain items such as the cexevic could be done better by the management but in the effort of keeping prices in check some items are not worth ordering. I would atay away from the ceviches and sangria. Beer is a better option if you are a drinker, they do sell wine by the glass and bottle but wines is very eexpwnsiv at this place. read more

4 stars only because their food/service is not always consistent. 5 stars for the quality and taste of the food. I've been here 3 times. 2 of which have been wonderful experiences with great service and delicious food. 1 time there was slow service and the food was surprisingly bland. They forgot to give me chips and salsa too. This happened when I went during an off hour of 2PM. BUT...overall this place is addictive and delicious. I've ordered their spinach enchiladas in green sauce and the seitan burrito. My pet peeve with restaurants is when they just throw the veggie item on the menu as an afterthought without a care on whether or not it tastes good. This place pays equal attention to its veggie dishes as they do with their meat dishes. My friends that ordered their meat dishes loved their food. And me? Hands down the best spinach enchiladas I've ever had. They are surprisingly light in taste and very fresh! ALSO, the seitan burrito is the best vegetarian...actually vegan burrito I've ever had! It's even better than some meat burritos!!! This place is right around the corner from my apt. and I look forward to visiting often. I will give this a 5 in the future if I find that the service is more consistent. read more
