Came here Sunday at 9AM, no problem getting a table. Place was 50% full. Got the 1/2 L orange juice for $10.75 was very good but debatable if worth the price. Worked out to 3 glasses of OJ. Friend is gluten sensitive so she was able to ask for the "gluten-free menu" they had a whole separate menu for her! Her Pannekoeken looked the exact same as mine but used gluten-free flours. She got the Banana nut and loved it. Ate 100% of it. I got the Meat Lovers. Meat was cooked into it and not just on top. I was very happy with the amount of meat and portion of giant pancake. I've been wanting to try this place for some time and finally had a reason to go downtown. I took advantage of making a reservation on Open Table. We ended up going earlier than the reservation hoping they'd be able to fit us in but there was quite a wait so we had to wait anyways. The restaurant isn't very big but it was beautifully designed. Our server came to grab our drink order first. He brought our drinks and took our order. I decided on the Amsterdam Benedict with Ham, the loaded potatoes and wanted to try their pancake so ordered the smaller version with raspberry and Whipped cream. My meal was delicious and flavorful. I've been wanting to try the pannekoeken (Dutch pancake) at De Dutch ever since I came back from my trip from Amsterdam. I finally got the chance to recently. My coworkers and I ordered "The Hash" which was one of their savory pancakes that included hash browns, green pepper, onion and cheddar mixed with choice of meat with hollandaise sauce. Dutch pancakes are known to be very large and thin compared to normal pancakes. It was decent meal and tasted like what it sounds. It was a good meal but not mind blowing. Compared to the pannekoeken I had in Amsterdam, De Dutch's pancakes lacks presentation and a wow factor that makes you want to crave for more. However for Edmonton standards, it's pretty good and and it's the only place you'll be able to order pannekoeken that I know of. I've tried other foods at De Dutch in the past and they have been above average and filling. Generally, De Dutch is a solid choice for breakfast food downtown. read more

Had a great brunch today with my family. The service was top notch! And the staff was all over the service and the food was unreally good!

I was looking for some place I had never been too and found this place. The night before we were at Zoobrew and needed a great breakfast. The place was pretty busy when we got there but we were seated right away. I had no idea what to expect from the service or food. Our server a wonderful brunette brought our coffees right away and answered all our questions about the menu. The place is set up nicely. A lot of tables but not congested. It's very bright and welcoming. I ordered The Hash. Looks like a giant pancake with a hash topped with hollandaise. The server told me that it is also her favourite item on the menu. My friend ordered eggs, toast and bratwurst I don't recall the prices as my friend was treating me for brunch. I loved the decor and the petit pot (mini pot) of cream we got with our coffee. It was just really lovely here. Our food came and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT. I need to come back and try more We were lucky we found parking nearby and for $2 for the few hours we were in the neighbourhood it was a steal of a deal!! Great food and great service. Big menu and dependably decent eats. I mean, a Dutch-themed breakfast place may be atypical, but it's not at all a bad thing. They use pork shoulder as their bacon (as opposed to the belly or the back) so that takes a bit of explaining. Lots of posters regarding the Netherlands. Savory pancakes. Cheese. Dutch things. First time to De Dutch for my boyfriend's birthday. We didn't have a reservation, but there was no wait, thankfully, for a table for 3. There is no easy parking, which I was aware of, but still didn't like this fact upon arrival with my 79 year old Grandfather. Boyfriend had to drop us off and park down the street. Not a huge deal for some, but something to be aware of. Our server was top notch. Attentive without being annoying. She made sure we had everything we needed and that coffee was always topped up. The coffee was pretty good for "diner" coffee. Not weak slough water, like some. Really enjoyed it. Food was very good... we definitely want to try other items on the menu. It's a huuuuuge menu and the Turkey options are so good, as we don't eat beef or pork. At first glance I felt super comfortable with COVID-19 protocols in place. Servers were all masked and it wasn't super busy in there. As we completed our meals, boyfriend pointed out that there's a window into the kitchen and none of the cooks were wearing masks or gloves or any kind of PPE. When I happened to look the one cook scratched his nose with his finger and kept on going. Now; I'm not sure what the mandated protocols are, it may not be mandatory for kitchen staff to wear masks, as they don't deal with the general public, however they are dealing with our food. I'd think that if I was the De Dutch manager I would want to be visibly above what the expectations are for safety in the pandemic. Overall this was great dining for breakfast and the mask thing is just evidence of my discomfort dining out right now (which I didn't really realize was a concern for me until this morning). Had to check out this place after seeing another Yelper's review a few weeks ago. I've been here before but I never actually tried the Pannekoeken before. This time I made it a point to actually try one! I have had a craving for pancakes recently! I came at about 9:30 AM on a Sunday with my entire family and there were a lot of open tables. There were about 8 of us. I would definitely recommend coming this early or making reservations if you want to get in. This is because around 10 AM it was absolutely SLAMMED. So even that extra half hour makes a huge difference here. The two menu items I tried were the veggie omelette and the strawberry cream cheese pannekoeken. The omelette was my Mom's and it was really good. The toast came with blueberry jam which is my fave jam. The potatoes were a bit soggy - maybe my least fave menu item. The strawberry cream cheese pannekoeken was amazing! I was so glad I got to try it because it was heavenly. It came with so much whipped cream and I could barely finish it! I would absolutely recommend this to anyone coming to De Dutch specifically for pancakes. Our server was great! We really enjoyed our breakfast here! read more

Haven't been back here for years but so glad I did this weekend. First, parking is almost non-existent so don't bother driving around for a spot downtown (might fare better early Sunday though). Just park in the paid parkade around the block...1/2 block north from west corner. A busy place and with current distancing rules, it's even harder to get in. Although we did luck out & managed to get immediate seating. Perhaps the wait time was too long because we could see people entering only to leave immediately. Great crisp decor & ambience. Our waitress was very pleasant & helpful, checking on us only a few times throughout our meal. Although, we would have liked service about halfway through our meal. However, our beverages & omelettes arrived fairly quickly. We both chose the chicken & avocado omelette. The omelette was substantial (thick & big) and perfectly sprinkled inside with diced chicken. The blob of avocado was fresh & sliced but maybe it should have been better presented...sprayed out instead of a blob. We got to choose 2 side accompaniments & there was 6 (?) different bread choices for toast: rye, white, sourdough, marble, etc. Although the meal was delicious, I was barely able to eat half of my massive meal! Freshly squeezed orange juice in a large glass was $6.50. Coffee wasn't the best. Overall, a good brunch. If you too haven't been to De Dutch in awhile, you'll be happy with their extensive menu. My boyfriend and I come here often and it is always so good. He eats a bit more so he usually orders two pannekoeken for himself. I usually get one of the French toast items. I cannot recommend the Nutella French toast enough. I had it with strawberries and it is heavenly. Staff are so nice, it is a beautiful little restaurant. This is an update to my previous review. We decided to head downtown to help out the city centre businesses. Parking is never easy downtown. We first tried that older parkade on Rice Howard Way but they wanted $14.00 for two hours. Nope! When we came out there was street parking on Rice Howard Way for $5 for two hours so that worked out nicely. DeDutch was surprisingly busy for 10:30 am on a Friday but far from full. Service was friendly, and prompt. There were so many things to choose from but once we decided what to order the server was right there. I liked that you can choose two sides from a list of several items. This way we didn't have to have a plate full of potatoes unless we wanted to. I picked fruit and avocado . It made my breakfast both delicious and healthy. Each of my brunch guests enjoyed the right sized meals. The prices are getting up there but it's nice to eat such good quality food. Our coffee cups never ran dry. I can recommend DeDutch to anyone who appreciates a good quality meal and is willing to pay a little extra for it. I learned a new word today - pannekoeken. Yes, the Dutch word kind of looks like "pancake" and is somewhat of a cross between a pancake and a crepe. It's pretty big - with a 37" circumference and a 12" diameter. It's much thinner than a pancake but a little thicker than a crepe. Pannekoekens are the signature menu items on the De Dutch menu. De Dutch is a Canadian chain "with 23 restaurants and more on the way" Your Pannekoeken decision isn't easy, because sweet and savory options abound. You can customize yours with meats, smoked salmon, cheeses, vegetables, potatoes, eggs, sauces, fruits, whipped cream, nuts, granola, toppings, and chocolate. I went for the Windmill option ($19.25) with shaved smoked wild BC salmon, edam cheese, but took a pass on the included hollandaise sauce. I didn't miss that Hollandaise sauce at all, the dish was plenty filling with very good smoked salmon. I couldn't finish it. The coffee ($3.25) was very good and the refills came quickly and unsolicited. I was pretty impressed with the work ethic of the young ladies I saw working the three dining rooms -they were buzzing around like a swarm of bees nonchalantly carrying these enormous trays loaded with enormous plates of food. Lots of coffee refills. We went for a work meeting on a Friday. It was busy buy not overwhelming. Staff were very pleasant and talkative. Very good time, great food and great price. I've never been disappointed eating here, and I've eaten here more than a dozen times! The menu has a great combination of solid favourites and interesting Dutch foods, so I've always been able to find something I thought would be a treat, and have been pleasantly rewarded each time. I've had breakfasts, sandwiches, tosties, and Caesar salad here. I've gotta say I'm super partial to the Caesar salad -- and fresh ground parmesan at the table is a really nice touch at this price point. The decor is so homey, and everything is Dutch-level clean. :-D There are little alcoves here or there for quiet conversation, and the coffee is good enough to make a refill worthwhile. Last but not least, I would really encourage people who enjoy a tasty hot lunch to try going here for lunch, even if you've always thought of it as a breakfast place. It's really both! read more

Consistently decent breakfast and brunch. I've tried several locations too. Parking is typical for any restaurant location along Jasper - you are lucky to find street spots or there's a couple parkades nearby. Even for my slow walking speed with the cane, the parkades are a modest distance choice. The LRT stops right at that corner too, so that's a good option if you don't want the parking hassle. The food itself has always left me happily full. I'm yet to try their massive wraps for lunch but I adore pannekoeken. As you might suspect from my other reviews, I really enjoy bennies but at this location it's pannekoeken first! Granted when I order my favourite one (the Canadian with no tomato and hollandaise sauce as a side) I might just mimic a bennie in a weird twist or I really should say roll... As I spread my hollandaise sauce inside and out of the pannekoek and then add syrup. Yep you heard it here first, sweet and savoury awesomeness in my stomach! My friends ordered the hash and a sweet strawberry option (sorry I forgot the actual name). The whipped cream serving was very generous for the strawberry & cream cheese already included. The hash was a huge portion too. None of us left hungry. The restaurant is laid out in sections. The back half of the restaurant area is my preference to be seated, as it has the lower noise level and more warmth. There's a mixtures of booths and tables in the front and back area. There also is a smaller room to the right of the entrance called bodegraven. Looked from my view that was more for two people seating options but occasionally I noticed tables being pushed together as the space allowed. I'm confident that it would be a good choice to ask to be seated in there when it's colder than -10 outside than to take any free tables immediately in the front area. If you bring your kids, they've got high chairs and will even pull them up to the booths if that's where you're seated. We got seated at one of the few tables in the front available when we arrived that would seat 4. This meant we took what was given and smiled about it. We're here for brunch after all. However, we couldn't help notice that we were immediately in the cold draft area every time the door opened (I kept placing my coat on to warm myself while waiting for our food). Add that those standing in the front waiting to be seated were watching us eat. They were 5 steps away from our table. That's a bit intimidating. Besides eating at a high end place, this is the first time that I felt I had to focus on not dropping food or spilling hot chocolate on myself. Odd to have that vibe. I think it's also important to note, the bigger the waiting line, the louder the front area becomes. I struggled to hear my friend right beside me let along right across from me. Towards the end of our lunch (which was the end of their rush) we could hear our conversation at the table much better without having to repeat ourselves. So if you are hoping for a better conversation space for brunch, arrive around 1 pm instead of 11/11:30 am. Last thought for this review, and it made me waffle if I should mark it as 3 or 4 - I went with 3 as this is a repeat situation now. Staff are always friendly, trying their best to serve to their ability and willing to give suggestions and input for narrowing down your orders. However, I have noticed on at least 4 separate occasions that they seem to be waiting on a larger amount of tables for a person to normally manage. I have great empathy to staff in the service industry and if that happens once in awhile it's not a big deal in my mind. Things happen that can be out of their control but when it's something that sticks out in my mind as a regular thing, the attentiveness decreases to individual tables for time to place an order or when the delivery of food happens. On this occasion we watched tables that were sat beside us and in the separate room be served before us. It got to a point I was going to flag down the waitress to double check our order was actually placed. Lucky for my very hungry stomach, the next time someone passed they had our food. I usually end up staying at the Chateau Lacombe when I'm in Edmonton, which means De Dutch is a quick walk down Jasper Ave to get to. Inside, the space is clean and bright, and while I've never been to the Netherlands, the décor is clearly meant to educate one on the geography of Holland and area. The food itself is great, and, according to people who know, very authentically traditional. I've had the panakoekn, scrambles, and French Toast...and while the last two are pretty common breakfast/brunch fare, the panakoeken is really a unique dish. Like a breakfast pizza with a near endless list of possible toppings, the size and savouriness (or sweetness, if you go that way) is going to make sure you don't leave hungry. Staff here are always friendly, and quick to find you a seat. Most recently we visited relatively early on a Sunday morning, and were able to get in right away. We have been there closer to lunch on Sundays and Saturdays and you can easily end up waiting in line. Worth the wait? I think so. There aren't a lot of Dutch options in and around Edmonton, so you owe it to yourself to at least try it. It could very well end up your new favourite spot! read more

A really nice brunch spot in a good location. I've eaten here a couple of times and I like it well enough. The coffee is not great, I have to say. The appetizer options are not terrific (basically just pick and choose eggs, sausage, hashbrowns, etc.) and everything on the menu is around $15, which is a bit dear for brunch. But if you're willing to take those prices and dig in, you'll find a pretty decent selection of breakfast/lunch options. Everything is made with care, the food is overall quite good, the service is quick and efficient. But you're definitely paying for the experience. About two weeks ago, I was billed a tip by a waitress on a debit transaction for food. I did not give permission to be billed for a tip. I was a sole diner. I only noticed the discrepancy when I left the restaurant and returned to work in a remote camp. I sent an online inquiry on De Dutch's web site a few days ago. No reply. I sent an email yesterday directly to their head office. No reply. I called De Dutch in Surrey BC. No one answers other than an automated system with a general mailbox. I left a voice message for the CEO. Reply pending. Customer service leaves much to be desired. To my understanding it is illegal for a waitress to add a tip to a debit transaction without first informing the customer that she is doing that. read more
