1 star for the dishonest server. We were over 5 people; on the menu said they charge a service fee. When the bill came the server brought us the scanner and my husband asked him if the service fee was charged and he said no. Well shame on us for not looking at the bill and just taking the servers word for it. We were charged for service fee about $20 and we added another $19 (thinking no service fee was charged) I went back and spoke to the server and told him he was being dishonest and his response "the service fee doesn't come to us servers", tell someone who has never been a server .. I have never heard such a thing. Yes, im disappointed. I want to support family owned business but please don't screw over your patrons. Now I will never go back to this place. read more

Came here by mistake (the directions that opened in yelp somehow took us here instead of to another kabob place we were going to try) and I was a little nervous because it was lunchtime on a Friday and the place was pretty empty- but I am so glad we stumbled upon this place! I've both dined in and ordered takeout here, and the food is always consistently delicious. The ambiance is warm and inviting--clean with friendly service that makes you feel right at home. The Kadoo/Squash Bolani is a must-try; it's crispy and absolutely addictive! The chicken kabobs and tikka kabobs are perfectly juicy, and the chaplee kabobs are packed with incredible flavor and stay so moist. The lights could have been a little lower for a better ambience, but the food was so wonderful I'm not going to take a star away. This was our first time having Afghan food and it didn't disappoint, everything we ordered was amazing (and also what we didn't order - appetizer soup = awesome). We had the beef dumplings, and the three meat combo - wow. Baklava for dessert too. Such flavorful meats. Service was really great too. The waiter was attentive and kind. read more

We are not from Tracy but were staying the night at a nearby hotel. First off, neither my husband nor I had ever tasted Afghan food. Aman, the server, was so kind and was very helpful in explaining the menu. We both had kabob meals, I had chicken and beef and my husband had beef and lamb. Everything was beautifully presented and so delicious! We both decided the beef was our favorite. We chose the Afghan brown rice. The potato salad served first was very unusual but so tasty! We also loved the Afghan bread served with the cilantro chutney .. what a treat! We will definitely be back on our next trip to Tracy and hopefully we will see Aman again. Avoid Deafghanan Tracy at all costs. We waited one hour and 5 minutes to receive our dinner (while fasting) before finally walking out in frustration because it still hadn't arrived. There was no warning when we arrived that the wait would be over one hour to receive dinner. The owners need to understand that its Ramadan, and they need to be well staffed. Great food with nice ambiance and artwork. This was our first time here and everything we had was super tasty! The chicken kabobs were incredibly tender, the spinach (Sabzeh) and eggplant dishes were both super flavorful, as well as the leek bolani. There was only one other party when we were there (3 pm) and we had great service from Aman. I think he was very proud of his food as he should be! This is the reason that I am looking for near by branch of De Afghanan in Fremont, Tracy, SF, Walnut Creek, and Livermore. They used to have a branch in Berkeley; I wish they open more branches at west and south of Bay Area, and Sacramento, to let people enjoy a quality food that made from scratch and fresh.There is no process or canned food. I enjoyed the food, and strongly recommend it to everyone who wants to try variety dishes of the best kabobs , mantu ( Afghani dumpling) rice and vegetables in North California. In addition, veggie food, especially my favorite: the potato and/or chive bolani (stuffed bread) which comes with plain homemade yogurt and chutney (green hot sauce, made with cilantro, vinegar, jalapeños ....) is a must try as appetizers. I also ordered shir -yakh (ice cream), topped with Afghani style qaimaq (milk pick), and pistachio. You can have other great items from the menu that I didn't mentioned in my comments. This kebab house is one of my favorite spots the star of the show is the mantu...its very delicious you have to try it for yourself ...i have had mantu at another location before but it was disappointing...the beef kebab with brown rice was so delicious...the beef was so tender juicy and flavorful it was cooked evenly and had a very distinctive beef flavor so good. I tried potato bolani for the first time and all i can say is thank God we didn't get it spicey...well they give you the option of heat level but we didn't want it spicey that day....i heard its pretty spicy....the waiter was surprised when we asked him that we didn't want to much spice on the bolani lol maybe he figured we took all the flavor out idk but it was very savory like a pizza sorta but 10 times better...the chicken and beef combo was very tasty the chicken was very tender and juicy to the bite ....chicken is off the hinges on a kebab....wat i cant get out my head is the mantu you have to try it for yourself to see wat i mean the flavor and texture is all excellent....i will definitely return to this spot to get a bite. read more

We have been eating at De Afghanan for years and I can believe it's taken us this long to write a review. The food is really good. We always order the chicken or beef kabob plate. Meat is always juicy and extremely flavorful. The rice is perfect and the bread compliments the meat and rice well. Sometimes we order the potato Bulani (hope I spelled it right) and it's really good. Amanullah the host/server is so polite and such a hard worker. If you like tasty food, very friendly staff and a nice clean restaurant, please visit them. You will not be disappointed. read more

I've worked in the area for almost 5 years, I've gone here multiple times in the past and food was good service was always mediocre. The other day I walk in at 3 o clock on my lunch break and the guy says "we close at 3:30 I can't make your order" ???? Let alone them being closed a few times randomly. So won't be going back there but I recommend mazaa kabob across the way. Definitely don't recommend this place specially if you're on your lunch break or if you're not afghan. read more

Uurgh, I really wanted to love this location but I'm just really not feeling it as yet. Ok, so it is a little unfair to compare it to other locations but it IS the same restaurant with the same menu so I have no idea why it just doesn't compare to Livermore. It's been open over a week now and for some reason when I last visited they still hadn't got around to putting table cloths on all of the tables. It looks messy and unfinished. That aside both my Husband and I were less than impressed with Dinner this past Saturday. With a total of 4 tables the staff seemed scattered. - Other Diners got their Potato Salad immediately. We didn't - Food took almost an hour. We later found out that it was due the Chef being asleep. On a Saturday night no less. I have no words... - My order was incomplete and missing the Carrots and Raisins from my Rice. - Chapli had no spice and was really greasy. - My Husbands Lamb tasted.. well.. kinda funky. Being charged an extra $4 to have it instead of Chapli you would expect it to be amazing but really wasn't and just 3 small chunks. - Bread also had a "soap - like" aftertaste like it had been kneaded on a surface not wiped down properly after sanitizing. The restaurant has great potential and has lot's of seating so I guess I'll just wait and see if the other aspects of it improve. read more

The customer service is so rude and disappointing. I tried to call in a order at 2:30pm and the person who answered the phone asked if I was gonna make it by 3:30. I said yes and he said no we're closed at 3:30 and hung up the phone. I was a frequent customer because I really enjoyed the food but the customer services is really terrible. Also if you go there make sure they're charging you the correct amount. There was another incident where I tried to place another order during their lunch special hour and the guy on the phone told me they got rid of it... as I arrive there were customers coming in ordering from their lunch special menu, which he told me they got rid of? Just ended a phone call with this establishment wothout a bit of cocern for the way my order of beef and lamb kabobs prepared and presented. I contacted the male server via phone and was told regardless of the condition of the kabobs (Chard and Over cooked! I was told it was the way they normally prepare their meals. This is unexceptable as it is unwanted, I will continue to support all of our local food establishments and will always do whats right even if it means allerting the residents of Tracy of the lack of concern or care when dealing with customers of certain establishments. Not sure about the food but try not order Sheer Yakh (ice cream) from there. First of all, it took them forever to bring my order and then I asked about authenticity of Sheer Yakh the waitress said Ne Baba its just vanilla ice cream and we put our additional local cream you can those ice creams in your dreams. I appreciate that she was truthful but if they could tell me before I would have never ordered that and the taste of ice cream was super bad too and again it took them forever to bring my bill and when they brought the bill they charged me for service fee!!!! RUDE!!!! Love the Fremont location for both their service and food. But this location is a joke. Out of all times, they decide to be so rude during this holy month! The server asked us to leave our table because it was for another family (we were there first and there was no reserve sign). The sweet family was shocked at his tone and felt embarrassed and told the waiter that table wasn't needed. But we moved to another table anyway.
