I have never been in this type of store before, and I really didn't know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised! It's a pretty plain interior in side, and it reminds me a lot of the sister store Ross. The men's clothes were arranged nicely by size, so I was easily able to find a running suit to buy. My wife also purchased some ladies tops. To my surprise, they also had some housewares. I purchased a plastic trash can for the kitchen. You can use the trash can to carry out your other purchases, since you can't remove a cart from the store. When you go to try on clothes, they are very strict. You have to hang up each item first, so they can count them. Then they give you a card to make sure you don't shoplift anything. I've been to this DD's Discount twice now. We come here to just browse around and see what they have and to see if anything is at a bargain or cheap price and worth buying. Every time we come, we always leave with a bag full of bargains for a cheap price! Today as we entered the store, we were greeted with a "Hello, Welcome to DD's" from the Security Guard standing near the store. That was a great start to our visit here at DD's. The store was actually pretty clean for the most part. It was nicely organized and neat, the racks were organized and it wasn't really cluttered at all. The workers keep this place pretty neat and clean. We found some pretty good bargains here at DD's and procceded to the fitting room and the lady working there was also pretty nice and friendly which you usually don't get from the workers at the fitting room. This lady was friendly and gave great service. While there was a wait at the checkout line, our cashier was okay. She had a soft voice, but checkout process was fine. Nothing bad about it. One of our items didn't have a price tag, so she just took one of our other items that were similar and scanned that one and we got the same price for that item with no tag. If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. We just moved to Hayward and while I'm not a huge fan of shopping in Hayward, I thought we would give this place a try after we had just been at Chuck E Cheese. My 3 year old daughter needs shoes so we headed back to the shoe department. She took ONE of her boots and handed it to me and started trying on shoes. Not one minute later the Manager or Store Supervisor came over and said (in a rude tone), "Little girl, where are your shoes?" I said, "I'm holding her boot right here." And she said, "She needs to put that on, she can't be walking around without shoes on." My daughter had one shoe on and one off as she tried on the shoes. She wasn't barefoot. She wasn't running around. SHE WAS TRYING ON SHOES! I stared at her like what the h*ll are you talking about? I said, "Um, she's trying shoes on." She replied with, "She needs to put her other shoe on." I was shocked at how RIDICULOUS and RUDE the lady was. I found a pair of shoes, didn't have her try them on because apparently you can't. I stood in line and she glared at me from behind a shelf. I said, "We are leaving. I'm not giving money to this store with these type of people in it." THIS STORE is PURE TRASH. This was our first time in this establishment. Unfortunately my experience started out with I had to check my backpack in with loss prevention. I had a backpack that I did not feel like checking in due to the brand name of it, so I went back in the car and locked it up. But I saw women in the store with purses that looked like backpacks and that was okay? Not going to fight that, but not everyone that walks into the store are dishonest and going to steal something. At least the loss prevention person that was in the store was nice and did not come off as having an attitude. Browsing the store, they have a huge selection of clothes for all members of the family, a decent selection of bedding / household items and a hit and miss selection of everything else.. I do like DD's but this location SUCKS! Occasionally I make a stop here after I take my son to Chuck-E-Cheese or Toys-R-Us but always leave disappointed. Reasons: 1. This place is always a mess. shoes, clothes, bedding, pillows, purses, you name it, it's on the floor. you can barely steer your cart because every other second you're running something on the floor over! SUPER FRUSTRATING! 2. Just about everything is opened. If it's packaged, expect it to be opened and the package all retarded looking with missing pieces or broken. 3. There is this one lady by the fitting rooms and bathroom who always gives me a problem when my 4 year old has to use the bathroom. She says it's not for customers. WTF? Clean and quite when going as soon as they open and very nice employees to greet and help you. 4 star review because I picked out jeans there yesterday and paid for them. Upon getting home the cashier had ripped the theft sensor out when she should have used the tool to remove it leaving my brand new jeans with a large visable hole in the pocket area. I now have to waste gas to return for an exchange or keep them and sew up a hole on new jeans. Employees should be trained where to place these sensors and how to properly remove them. I worked retail so I know that the sensor wasn't placed correctly and was definitely ripped out and not removed correctly. The sensor pin would leave a small pierced area not a giant hole. This DD's establishment has the worst customer service when compared to all the others that are located in the Bay Area. Every time you go here, you are greeted by the security, and not the staff. Not to mention that the management has horrible people skills. I went there yesterday with my fiance to return a recent purchase made at the San Leandro location. However, because I recently underwent surgery, I could not go back to that location right away. I live less than a mile from the Hayward location and opted to return the item purchased at this store because I had my receipt in hand. The DD's policy is that either you can return the item for a full refund with your receipt within 30 days of purchase, or settle for store credit if no receipt is available. Again, being that we just made this purchase of flatware, I had the receipt perfectly folded in my purse. The item purchased was expected to be in good condition. However, when we got home and we were attempting to put the plates away; upon removing the protective wrap, we noticed that there were several items within it that were broken. When we arrived at the store, we got in line for the returns and waited over 15 minutes then proceeded to return the item by showing our receipt. We explained that the item had been broken upon purchase and that we would like the money refunded on our credit card. As the woman by the name of Laura proceeded to scan the receipt and the item she then said, "This is not the receipt." I then replied that the item was purchased in San Leandro, which I had the receipt for and showed the item on the receipt. In a very condescending tone, Laura said, "Look at this." and turned the screen towards me. I asked her what I am looking at I don't work here and she said that the SKU# was voided. I asked her what that meant and she said, "It's not accepted" and I replied,"What does that mean?" She proceeded to explain that we could only get store credit and not a refund. I became upset and challenged her because I was following DD's policies on returns and there was no reason why it shouldn't have been honored. Laura even went to the extent of stating that I should take it back all the way to San Leandro despite seeing me in an arm sling and very uncomfortable. That only upset me more and I requested for a manager and she immediately claimed that she was the manager. Although, I came to learn that she IS NOT, in fact, the manager and perhaps just someone who was left in charge. My family frequents that location and they know the manager. I had been advised that she is not at all the manager but a customer service agent who was on a power trip. I really don't understand how DD's can implement such a strict return policy when the employees are not following it to the letter. We had no option but to accept the store credit, but we were very unhappy with the outcome and customer service or lack thereof! Laura needs to be taken down a few pegs and retrained in the basics of CSR 101! Best believe we also reported this to the DD's corporate site. Hopefully, they can get their act together and follow policy rather than steal from customers with forcing them to accept store credit! read more

I would give this store 5 stars if they were more consistent with their "big n tall" men's selection. I ALWAYS love coming to this store in particular because it always seems to be an adventure looking through all the different clothes. You can find almost ANYTHING at any time but you can also come at a time when theres literally nothing to buy. This DD'S is kinda hit and miss. I've found a LARGE portion of my current wardrobe right here in this store though so it's one of my favorite places to shop. I say (whether you're male or female) give DD's a try before you shoot it down for being "too ghetto" cuz I'm from the ghetto and TRUST ME, I've seen MUCH worse-DD's is not ghetto. This D.D. Discount has the worst service! When you go to the fitting room they EXPECT the Customer to put ths hanger back on the clothes. Customers do not get paid to do the job you are paid to do. When you go to the check out counter to be waited on the cashier is already calling for the next customer in line when their not even finished helping the customer at the checkout counter. Advise: Finish helping the customer at the counter then call the next customer in line. Do not call the next customer in line while you are still helping someone at the counter. They keep it clean, security is helpful and its never any B.S going on around there like I have seen at other locations. They used to let you use the bathrooms, but they all of a sudden stop letting customer use them. I recently bought a pair of turquoise capri's pants from DD's on May 7, 2014 at the Tennyson store location and they were marked down. The first time I wore the pants was on Saturday, May 31, 2014. I was at an event and went to the ladies room and went to zip my pants back up only to find that the zipper had broken. That monday June 2, 2014 I returned the pants to the DD's location on Hesperian. Its the same store, same prices, same products. Uh not so. I entered the store and located my section and found the SAME SIZE, SAME PANTS, so I headed to the counter to do my even exchange. So the clerk proceeds to ring up the pants and tells me I owe $2.83. I asked for what? I am doing a even exchange. She goes on to tell me the price you bought them for at the Tennyson location were marked down which I never paid any attention to the price at this store location on hesperian all i knew they were the same pants, and same size. Apparently they were not marked down at this location which is not my problem so i thought. So I explain what difference does it make, for one I'm bringing the pants back becasue the zipper was broke and two they are the same pants and same size. So she gets another clerk who claimed to be a manager becasue all the other managers were in a meeting which I did not believe. And I really didnt want to be in line arguing over $2.83 but its the prinicpal of the matter. So I tell her hey I've worked retail before and not only is the customers always right but this situation was a even exchange regardless of the price difference. So here comes the security guard budding in trying to put his two cents in. I immediately tell him I'm not speaking to you I'm speaking to the clerks thank you, and he backs away. He is the security guard which means your job is to secure the place not get involved in the clerks job trying to handle an exchange. I really felt attacked and threatened by not only the two clerks trying to persuade me how right they were and how wrong i was but to have a man as the security guard trying to bud in. It was totally inappropriate and unprofessional. I had to defuse this situation quick. I stated this is one of the reasons why I stopped doing business with DD's is becasue of their lack of professionlism. I ended up paying the $2.83 and vowed to myself not to ever step foot back into any DD's in america. I am giving this store a zero in my mind becasue they dont deserve anything but that. The store is always empty and now i see why becasue no one has time to spend their hard earned money someplace where your mistreated and attacked by clerks and Security Guard.
