ok..ok.. i know a few people have had a "few" bad experiences with either Mike (owner) or one of his little helpers, but let me bring up a few things about DD Cycles If you are looking for that pink jump suit or a $200 road bike, then this is not the place for you. Mike is a crusty old fart who knows about as much in customer service as i know how to fly a plane, but that is not why he is there. Mike is a sage of all there is to knwo about bikes, parts, builds, repairs and that hard to find piece for your 1962 Eddy Merckx road racer. DD Cycles is a place to take your rare, beloved, and historical bikes. He is the guy who shoos away kids who come too close to the bikes and giggles at the novis riders on their Chinese made bikes with Western labels. He can be a pain in teh ass, but he will impart on you teh finer details of what it means to really be a bike rider. Here are a few things he deals with that no other stores in the city deals with. Bikes before 1950s Unique/rare bikes (Olympics, custom, one-offs) hard to find parts (C-Record, Columbia) Custom builds hand made parts (wheels, metal and frames) Custom modifications If you are looking for a black iodized C-Record Pista crank set or to drill out your seatpost from a 27.0 to a 27.2, then Mike is the guy for you. Just remember, ask questions and listen. yes, i know he can ramble, but he has some cool stories and yes it will affect your price for the better.

The man who works here overcharges for valve replacements AND stared at my breasts. Not going back.

Last week Noah helped me, and he did a fantastic job. The repair was done in under 10 minutes, and everything was prompt, quick, and professional. Five stars all the way.

They sell a kinda of curated goods from a small selection of tools, lubricants, snacks, and gear. I bought some very well fitted gloves there. What really impressed me was the way they operated the store. It got busy at one point and chilled out... then it got busy again, and they did not miss a beat! But on top of all of that, they were servicing bikes that had appointments or walked in, all at the same time! I was able to bring my bike in, but I also saw they had those bike repair racks in the front and back of the store - they're not playing around. I saw someone walk in with their bike listing off a bunch of stuff he wanted to look into fixing, and the staff person in the front immediately threw it on the repair rack and said 'let's take a look'. They also have this roller situation setup in the front where they can take your bike and run it in place to show what it does while in motion. This place means business and they are super friendly! I wish I had something like this closer to home, this store is doing a service to their local community.

I went to Spokeasy to buy an attachment for my bicycle pump, specifically for a dog stroller. Anson…read morekindly offered to pump up the stroller tires for me. My dog was still in the stroller, and I asked multiple times whether I should remove her. I was concerned about the weight on the tires and bearings while he was servicing it, and my dog was visibly uncomfortable with him lifting the stroller while she was inside. He picked up the stroller several times by the front wheel, which seemed awkward at the time. As soon as I left, I realized the front swivel wheel was no longer functioning properly. It now defaults to facing backwards (180°), and the tire rubs against the swivel with every turn. This made it extremely difficult to get my dog home, especially because she has mobility issues. The stroller is not a luxury item for us -- it's something I rely on every single day for my dog, groceries, laundry, and basic errands. When I told my son what happened, he mentioned that he had a similar experience at the same shop a couple of weeks ago. He and a friend brought in a bike with a brake issue. The shop offered to help and didn't charge them, but whatever was done made the bike worse. Sending a kid out with a bike in worse condition than it came in is a safety issue, especially since my son recently had a serious fall due to a mechanical problem. I understand that Spokeasy didn't charge us for these services, but free work still needs to be safe and competent. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case here. For these reasons, I can only give Spokeasy one star.
