    Trek Front end

Avenue Cyclery has been my go-to shop for my Trek Madone road bike for over 10 years. When I started putting together my dream road bike, I started with a high-end Trek Madone road frameset. Throughout the parts acquisition and configuration, Andrew was super supportive for info, parts and pricing when he could be. Avenue techs put it together masterfully and quickly and because they were a Trek dealer, they had access to everything about my Madone. I have had Avenue do the annual maintenance as well as upgrades over the years with never an issue. A person who spends thousands on a bike might usually go to a high end niche shop but three things led me to Avenue, they were a Trek authorized dealer, they were in my neighborhood and Andrew himself. Whether it is a road bike, mountain bike or a child's bike, whether it is hundreds or thousands, you can feel good and sleep well after any transaction with Avenue Cyclery.

Really quick service here and super nice person who helped us with the bikes - I just placed an order the day before and on the day of, the bikes were ready right on time and all adjusted and we got free helmets! It's a bit more on the high side in terms of price, but it does make it up in terms of quality! Would come again. The location is super convenient as well for Hawk Hill since it's close to Golden Gate Park.

Here's the 2017 Trek FX3 I bought from Avenue.  I replaced the stock rear wheel at a different shop, and added the rack and basket myself.

I bought a new commuting bike (Trek FX3) at Avenue Cyclery in 2017 from Andrew, after spending about a month trying out many bikes at various shops around the city. Avenue's new bikes come with free safety checks, and also a free one-time tuneup that can be performed up to a year after the initial sale, and this was enticing at the time. I have subsequently taken the bike back into Avenue for servicing many times with mixed experiences. For the most part, they are friendly and helpful, and often do quick things, like adjusting my squealing brakes, right there while I wait, at no charge. However, the rear wheel of that new Trek failed repeatedly during my first year ownership. This was in addition to the front derailleur that had to be replaced within my first 3 months with the new bike. It's possible that my 2 mile workday commute down Irving Street is just too much for any bike to handle, and that no bikes in my price range would survive a year of that kind of abuse intact. Avenue sold me a new derailleur which later had to be swapped out for a different one because their initial choice didn't fit. After several repair attempts on the stock rear wheel, they wanted to sell me a heavy duty rear wheel for around $100 to replace it. Andrew told me the stock wheel would not qualify for warranty replacement from Trek. He would not put in a warranty claim with Trek just to see if it did, either. It was frustrating to me that a new bike needed to spend so much time in the shop, and this dampened my enthusiasm for riding considerably. I now take my bike to a different local shop that's closer to where I live, or else just do the simple things myself. Since that time, I have not had any problems with the bike, and I continue to commute by bicycle frequently.

I bought my first Trek here in 2007. Since 26 inch bicycle wheels are obsolete, I had to get rid of my 26 inch and get a 27.5 or 29 inch mountain bike. I came back and decided to purchase a 29" Trek Fuel EX 8. Sad to say I had to say good bye to my Trek Fuel EX 6 because of a cracked rear rim.... I kept that thing alive on a budget with this shop helping me out. A lot of other shops told me to get rid of it a long time ago... Not cause it sucked.. cause of their up-selling.. . Anyways... I purchased my new Trek and it came in less than a week! I have to say, the shop is nothing but informative, easy to deal with, and to me, doesn't shout "shady" in any way like some shops on the street... I'm now back to riding and I have to say.. I love it!

They sell a kinda of curated goods from a small selection of tools, lubricants, snacks, and gear. I bought some very well fitted gloves there. What really impressed me was the way they operated the store. It got busy at one point and chilled out... then it got busy again, and they did not miss a beat! But on top of all of that, they were servicing bikes that had appointments or walked in, all at the same time! I was able to bring my bike in, but I also saw they had those bike repair racks in the front and back of the store - they're not playing around. I saw someone walk in with their bike listing off a bunch of stuff he wanted to look into fixing, and the staff person in the front immediately threw it on the repair rack and said 'let's take a look'. They also have this roller situation setup in the front where they can take your bike and run it in place to show what it does while in motion. This place means business and they are super friendly! I wish I had something like this closer to home, this store is doing a service to their local community.

Everything went smooth and as expected as far as sales expectations and experience. Where they absolutely exceeded expectations was in the service department. I've been treated like family here in the way they receive me and take care of my bikes. Not just regular service either. Sometimes I work on my bikes and screw things up. I've been dissed by snooty shops in the past (American Cyclery, if they got payed for attitude they'd be rich). But not here, nothing but love. Additionaly I recently crashed my beloved new SC Stigmata at high speed causing all kinds of mechanical havoc. Not only were the service staff kind but extremely proficient in mechanicals to reset everything nicely and get me riding again. Shout out to Devynn and Rene (and other staff for sure) for setting the gold standard in professionalism. It is very difficult to write good reviews for bike shops, but not this one is easy. 6 stars ****** Maximum appreciation for this business

My dog was still in the stroller, and I asked multiple times whether I should remove her. I was concerned about the weight on the tires and bearings while he was servicing it, and my dog was visibly uncomfortable with him lifting the stroller while she was inside. He picked up the stroller several times by the front wheel, which seemed awkward at the time. As soon as I left, I realized the front swivel wheel was no longer functioning properly. It now defaults to facing backwards (180°), and the tire rubs against the swivel with every turn. This made it extremely difficult to get my dog home, especially because she has mobility issues. The stroller is not a luxury item for us -- it's something I rely on every single day for my dog, groceries, laundry, and basic errands. When I told my son what happened, he mentioned that he had a similar experience at the same shop a couple of weeks ago. He and a friend brought in a bike with a brake issue. The shop offered to help and didn't charge them, but whatever was done made the bike worse. Sending a kid out with a bike in worse condition than it came in is a safety issue, especially since my son recently had a serious fall due to a mechanical problem. I understand that Spokeasy didn't charge us for these services, but free work still needs to be safe and competent. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case here. For these reasons, I can only give Spokeasy one star.
