We hired Dave in the beginning of 2016 to completely redo our yard. I spent a good deal of time trying to find a good reasonable hands on landscape contractor and from the beginning it was obvious that Dave both wanted our business and knew what he was doing. It was a massive project that covered over 2,200 sq feet and involved bobcat demolition and excavation, massive dirt removal, brick facade and gate removal, building custom stone structures, drainage, irrigation, electrical, plumbing and more. Overall we were very happy with the result and also with Dave and his team. He has a lot of local resources in the Seal Beach / HB / LBC area and stopped by the job nearly everyday to check on it even if he didn't have an immediate need to be there. In addition he checked in via phone when we weren't around to see if we had any questions, comments or concerns. A project like this is a lot of work and requires flexibility of all involved - homeowner to laborer. Dave was very amendable to changes and helped us make our vision a reality and took care to suggest improvements to the original plan as things played out. He suggested changing the shape of the fire pit as well as growing the size of our outdoor kitchen. Looking back, we are very glad he made these and other suggestions and that we agreed. Nice thing about DC is they wont waste your time asking for 1,000's of dollars up front to draw out a project you already have 85% designed in your head. Most people already know what they want. Dave sat with me in the beginning over several meetings and sketched out what we wanted adding critical input based on his extensive experience. Once we agreed on the sketches he hired someone at his cost to draw it up and off we went. Financially, I felt DC charged a very fair price and payment terms were clear and worked for us. He didn't ask for any money until day one when they started and then broke out the job in progress payments leaving the largest payment (over 25%) to the end not payable until after everything was complete. There were some change orders due to additional work we needed to do and those costs were communicated clearly for approval before any additional work was done. Dave also was very nice to coordinate & work with other contractors we hired directly for a couple things. We pulled permits for the entire project and we live in unincorporated Orange County, where building inspection can be a fickle thing. There were some challenges both with the county as well as the inevitable problems that arise during a project of this scope. Dave took it all in stride with us and made sure everything passed with flying colors. He was a true partner in helping us build out the yard we wanted. We now have over 1500 more square feet of outdoor living space and it defiantly makes a big difference. Thanks Dave! read more

Do not hire this guy. As a couple other people stated he never is on time never comes when he says he will and in the middle of the job raised the price. I'll not go into details but be forewarned. He did do the job but it wasn't inexpensive and for me not worth the hassle. read more

David came out to my fathers property in seal beach and re-did our entire concerete patio. He did a great job accomadating our need for a greenhouse hook up and preserving the ability to have a built in BBQ. Overall very happy with the time line and profesionalism working with Dave! read more

I hired Dave to install landscape lighting in September. The initial installation was done, and we liked the original layout. We noticed, however, that we needed an additional light to complete our system. We contacted Dave to install the added light. Dave indicated that the light was not available, and he agreed to install the light when it was available. After Dave indicated its availability, several appointments were made to install the light, Dave was a "no show" for several times that he said he would arrive to install the light. I've tried to contact Dave a multitude of times (OVER SEVERAL MONTHS) to arrange an installation time, but have not even received the courtesy of a response from him. As a result, I am changing my satisfaction of his work from FIVE STARS to ONE STAR. read more

Disappointed. I called David to help resolve a sprinkler issue given his history with the previous owner of the house. I understand prices can change subsequent to uncovering findings during a job. However, there was a bit of discrepancy between what his pricing changes were with the response from his team. The first price change was a +48% price increase from our original quote. I discussed the price change with him over the phone and understood the additional work his team had to complete. Fair - we accepted the change. I spoke to his onsite team and confirmed the work was completed and no additional service was required. Within 40 minutes, he sent us a text to inform us of a +53% price increase - even though his onsite team told us there would be no additional work necessary! I called him to dispute the second price change as any owner would. He informed me I was rude during the dispute, which I then apologized to continue the conversation forward in a positive manner. He hung up on me shortly afterwards and refused to pick up my call! To the credit of his team - they fixed the sprinkler issue, but left the plants in the serviced area in poor condition. Unfortunately, David has incredibly poor bedside manners and we won't be hiring him again for future services. read more

I had an estimate from this landscaper for a project and it was outrageously over priced. I realize that there is inflation so the price of any construction has increased, but I had other estimates for the masonry and landscaping materials plus labor and this landscaper bid at least twice the price of other licensed contractors. read more

GREAT VISIONARY. Artistry and sound construction. Great work ethic. He (David Castillo, the owner) and his guys were always on time, and the materials used were top notch. Gates? No. They were more like doors, meaning that even the subcontractors he chose (gates, electrical, paint, etc.) were The garden lights aren't the cheap ones. They are made to last. Plants were not ordinary, but elegant and different. The crew installed flagstone, a driveway, and a planter box, and installed our BBQ in the BBQ island that they shored up and beautified with a buffed concrete top. They did an excellent job on the stonework on vertical pillars. Note: This was a bigger job than the last two they've done for us. We keep hiring them. read more

I had been searching...searching...searching for someone I could trust with my front yard overhaul. I called a few referrals and a few businesses based on their Yelp reviews. Believe it or not, I had a more than challenging time having anyone even call back. That all changed as soon as I contacted DC Landscape. I got an immediate call back, and Dave was at my house the next day. I knew when I was first speaking with him that he was the guy for our job. The next day, as promised, he emailed me over a detail proposal and we were off and running. Not only did he show up on time, each time, but he started and finished my job ahead of schedule. He listened while I described my vision and came up with a sketch for me to review. David and I met at the nursery and picked out all of my plants, while he described what each of them were. David laid out for me the timeline of when the grass would be sprayed and when it would be removed. The whole project took about 3 weeks total. David was in contact with me almost daily about what his crew were doing and where they were on the project. I highly recommend D.C. David built us a beautiful water feature. He and his crew finished on time and we're very respectful. The communication, including the contract, the additions we made on, and invoices was something I had previously not had with other companies. His secretary would email us a copy for deposits as it stated in the contract, if he was ever unavailable she was always reachable with correct information and scheduling. I had a party and they were able to finish a couple days early to my satisfaction. It tool until the completion date to get our one tree, but when it was planted he did a walk through to make sure we were satisfied. And then he sent one of the crew members out to give our gardener maintenence info. And to our surprise he came by about a week ago to check on the irrigation because "he was in the neighborhood" and actually added a couple extra sea lavender he had extra from a job site.
