We just acquired a new rental and found that the remotes did not work. The opener it self appeared pretty old and with the house going to be a rental we decided to take the step and replace the opener. We called several garage door co's over the course of two days with not much luck in connecting. We called DC and Don Cook answered the phone. We talked and discussed our needs. What a way to start the morning! Backed out the garage lowered the door and left. Realized I left my keys in the house I returned and low and behold... the door would not lift! Well yesterday my 7' x 16' garage door decided to blow a torsional spring. Well being Mr Fix-It, I decided to tackle the job myself. Not that I couldn't do it myself (BTW, if you are not extremely careful and know what you are doing, unwinding the torsional spring can be very dangerous and those attempting to do the work themselves risk getting badly hurt or killed). Taking proper precautions, I was able to safely remove both the broken spring and unwind and remove the old charged spring. Having accomplished that, I soon realized that todays COVID problem has affected the supply chain for replacement parts. As hard as I would search, I came up empty. Maybe when the supply chain issues are resolved, I would be able to gather the proper springs within a reasonable time and complete the job myself. That will be another day. In the meantime, I've got a stuck closed garage door. So I reached out to local garage door service companies. There are a bunch of sorry assed companies that try to rip people off. That's another story. I came across Don (the owner) at DC Garage Doors, and I could tell right away that I should continue discussing my plight with him. I gave him all the info on the doors and springs and we arranged that he could come out within an hour. He had given me a price for the one double door and it seemed fair and reasonable. He arrived in 45 min and had nearly completed the spring replacement and adjustments when I asked him to replace to old style enclosed torsional spring and hardware on the 7' x 8' single garage door. The spring on that unit was 17 years old so why not do it now rather than a spring failure. Again Don gave me a very fair and reasonable price and completed the additional work within the next hour. Summary is he is the owner and wants satisfied long time customers and appreciated referrals. That's what I'm doing here. Did my homework this time. Went on "Yelp" to find a Garage Door Repair company, NOT Angie's. Great reviews for DC Garage Doors. I called at 10am, Don said someone would be here by 1:00pm. "I don't want an Emergency call" was my response. It wasn't being considered as an emergency, just GREAT customer service. Turns out, Don, the owner came out right on time, fixed the problem, did a little preventative maintenance. His price was so REASONABLE, that I had the bottom weather stripping replaced as well. With the additional work, DC GARAGE was still far less expensive that an Angie List Garage person I used 3 months ago for a much smaller issue. I've been meaning to write a review. My garage door finally had it and the belt drive snapped. I called three garage door companies and DC Garage door was the only one that actually answered. We talked about what kind of opener I wanted to replace it with and I picked another belt drive. He was able to pick up the product and installed it within 2 days. He also got rid of the squeak on the rollers and then he replaced the rubber trim at the bottom.
