Half 1/2 Chicken with 2 Sides
William D.

Went here for dinner a few nights ago after my dad suggested it. I got a "half chicken" platter w/fried rice, mixed vegetables and fried plantain with Horchata as a drink and the FOOD WAS FIIIRREEE!! The owner is a real cool dude as well, welcomed us into his restaurant with open arms and made everyone in there feel very comfortable. So the food being amazing was the cherry on top! Definitely a great restaurant and awesome experience, I highly recommend giving it a try!

Best services, the food looks so good and tasty 5 stars. Great value for the price. Efficient, reliable, and the results exceeded my expectations. Highly recommended!

NEW SOFT SERVE HORCHATA ice cream so good! it's house made and you can tell

The best Peruvian place in the area, with the nicest staff! Always a great experience here, must try their lomo saltado and homemade horchata ice cream!!

I love this establishment!! The restaurant is always clean and inviting. The staff are always welcoming, friendly, professional, and kind! Now let's get to the FOOD!!! I have tried their shrimp (love it) and just about all their sides (love it), my daughter love their chicken, but her favorite is their salmon, and now I'm just trying out their fried whiting with rice and pasta !!! Doesn't it look good y'all? This has become my go to spot in Woodbridge!! There is not many places in this area that not only prepare and cook fresh foods, but having it tasting good as well!! This is my 7 visit in the last month. I'm a foodie!

Look at the seasoning in the sauces! So good

Great Peruvian chicken! Went as a family and the 1/2 chicken feeds my husband, my almost 2YO son, and myself. The fries in my photo were after I grabbed some for my son. The sauces are so good - they make their green sauce a little spicier than the Super Rico in Stafford. Also, their fries are super crispy and so yummy! The fried rice is more of a soy sauce with veggies, but still very good. The restaurant was clean and the staff is so friendly. Definitely want to go back for more food!

The charcoal is real!

Deliciousness - 4/5 Happiness - 3.5/5 I was really surprised by this place. Really good food as part of a massive menu. I'll definite be back. I get worried that some restaurants overextend themselves by having massive menus. Although not quite cheesecake factory lengths, this giant menu contains a lot of delicious food. My number 1 recommendation is the bistec. We got the one with fries and eggs and it was beyond tasty. The steak was wonderfully marinated and had a great depth of flavor. It paired incredibly well with the crispy fries and perfectly cooked eggs that had a ton of runniness. I also quite enjoyed the charcoal chicken - it balanced the char on the skin with juicy, moist chicken inside. I also thought the plantains and fried rice were tasty sides. There were a couple things I'd avoid. I sprung big for some lamb chops. I found them over-seasoned and also, you get only 4 tiny chops for over $20.00. I know lamb is generally expensive but it definitely was not worth the price here. I also found the wings were very unremarkable. They were more skin than meat, making them too gummy. Given the other much better options, there's no reason to get them. The restaurant itself is bright and clean. That said, it took a very long time to get my food (about 20 minutes or so). Given that it's set up to cater to to-go orders, I thought that was way too long. They also didn't have some of the flavors advertised for the wings. But overall I can't wait to make my way through more of the menu!

Next month will mark one year since I discovered Down Home Comfort Cafe in Woodbridge, Virginia,…read moreand I can honestly say that finding this place has been one of the best things to happen to me. I was in town when I first stopped by, and what started as a visit turned into spending the entire day with the staff. From that very first day, I felt something special. These wonderful people are no longer just restaurant staff to me -- they are family. Now, every month when I fly into town, I make it a priority to spend the entire day with my Down Home Comfort Cafe family. I love the atmosphere, the food, the conversations, and most of all, the people. I even enjoy talking with the customers and recommending different entrées. It feels like I'm coming home every time I walk through those doors. And let me tell you -- the soul food is absolutely incredible! The food is made with love, and you can taste that love in every bite. If you're looking for delicious, authentic soul food and an atmosphere where you're treated like family, look no further. In my opinion, the best soul food cafe is right here in Woodbridge, Virginia -- Down Home Comfort Cafe!

I love bread pudding, but this one just wasn't my favorite. It wasn't bad it just didn't quite hit the mark for me. The café itself is small, cozy, and welcoming. They have a small bar area, indoor seating, and a customer restroom that's tucked away in the back. When I stopped in, there were several people dining in, and it had a relaxed, homey atmosphere. Overall, I'd definitely recommend Down Home Cafe, especially if you're looking for a comforting brunch or a laid-back Sunday meal. I'll definitely be back for those chicken and waffles! Oh! I had heard about the Crimson Coward when it first came to town. It seems like a very…read morewell-established name, with decent food offerings. It sits right across the street from one of my top 5 favorite fried chicken shops, Nash & Smashed. They have some decent competition - That's what I thought before I stopped in. I am very thankful to the Crimson Coward chain for offering a $5 discounted meal for first-time visitors! I ordered the 4 piece tenders, in country style (no heat). My body seems to be that of a crybaby when it comes to handling spice. I ordered the food just after they opened, at 11:06, thru their online storefront (website). I arrived to pick up the food at around 11:20. They were just packaging it up to go out the door, and I was the only one in the restaurant. I'm sure if there was a line or quite a few more orders it would have taken longer. The food was packed in a small folding box (just like KFC style), but contained no napkins - so be sure to grab those before you go! The chicken was moist, tender, and juicy! The breading was thin, yet slightly crunchy. It seems that they make this perfectly! My compliments to the crew. It was done very well. The tenders were as big as my hands, and just as thick! They were quite large! I'm not sure I've ever seen tenders quite so big, that weren't 50+% breading alone. But no - these were genuinely large - They must have been the beast of a chicken yard. Tender. Juicy. Perfection. You get 4 slices of pickle with the meal, and for a pickle-lover like me that was great! They're not terrible high-class tasting, like a Claussen-brand pickle, and have a hint of bread-n-butter taste to them, but they're decent! But, the reason for the score being as it is, is because the flavor profile didn't fit to the fireworks sparkle that hit the chicken towards a home run. The seasoning landed a bit short, and flat. I was expecting a myriad of blended herbs and spices to match the exquisite look and tenderness of the chicken - but it never came. I couldn't tell you what herb or spice it was that felt so strongly, but there was one element in the spice package that dominated everything else, and just fills the nose and mouth with that one flavor over all else. It's not a bad taste by any means. It was quite enjoyable as-is, but it's nothing overtly special to write back home about. I wouldn't travel from far just to get this chicken. One other thing that bothered me was that they seemed to offer mac & cheese with other things mixed in but yet not the mac & cheese by itself on the side. Yet, you can get slaw, onions, pickles, and all these other condiments and flavors by themselves - just not mac & cheese alone. Sad! A terribly missed profit-maker for sure... If there's one thing people want with good fried chicken it's mac & cheese! I believe that's written in soul food lore somewhere... Lastly, the sauces that came with the food -- You can pick your own, and by default I went with the Crimson Sauce, and ranch. The ranch fell a bit flat. It's not an expensive or savory ranch; it's just a bottom of the barrel 2D ranch. No eccentric savory flavors, or myriad of tastes. There was clearly no buttermilk in it either, it just felt a bit sad. That's not to say it wasn't good, but it left me longing for a bit more. The Crimson sauce was good. It had a tiny bit of heat -- similar to something like your average green peppers, or mildly spicy fresh-made salsa would give off. Something your old-school no-spice white granny could order and eat with no complaining. The sauce was good and flavorful. Between the 4 tenders, 1 cup of ranch, and 1 cup of crimson sauce, I finished my meal just as the sauce cups were being wiped empty with the last bit of chicken meat. A refreshing and enjoyable experience, but nothing to drive out of your way for. I enjoyed the meal, and would come back - but I wouldn't go craving it once a week for the rest of my life. Good for a passing meal when you're sick of eating the same ol' Taco Bell, KFC, Chipotle, or McDonald's meals, and want to change it up a bit.

There wasn't anything that I ate where I feel I would crave it. You order at a counter and they call your number when it is ready Super casual. Would I come back? Sure. I had nothing really to complain about. I had the mild chicken tenders. My daughter got a spicer sandwich and she was pleased. Fries are good. There was a sauce that came with it that was good. Limited Pepsi products and a couple of juices in their fountain machine. They also had some basic flavored milkshakes. Lots of tables for 2 people and only 1 table that sits four. The portions are more than generous in fact my only regret was not ordering a kids meal for myself.

This little jewel is located off Route 1 in Woodbridge near the Hendrick Honda dealership. I think it used be a Pizza Hut. ‍ Lots of clean seating inside (both barstool height tables and standard height). Cashier was super knowledgeable and helpful about their menu and customer favs. My family ordered a chicken sandwich combo, chicken and waffles, chicken tenders, fried okra, Korean nuggets combo, and 6 pc soy garlic wings combo and the total was just under $80. Family can't handle spicy so we did zero spicy for everything. The food came out steaming hot and fresh. Flavors on point for everything!! Each entree was probably enough to feed two people! That sounded crazy, so of course I had to see what the hype was about. The first time, I went with family and ordered the Sando combo at the Hot level. The second time, I went all the way and tried the Angry Hot. I didn't actually have to sign a waiver, but they did ask me if I was sure that was what I wanted, which made me wonder what I was getting myself into! Honestly, as someone who eats spicy food all the time, the Angry Hot wasn't that hot to me. It definitely has heat, but I was expecting much worse based on the warning. The sandwich itself is HUGE. The piece of chicken is so big that I can never finish the whole thing and usually end up splitting it with someone. I do wish the bun were a little bigger to match the size of the chicken, but the coleslaw and sauce really bring everything together and make the sandwich taste great. The waffle fries are probably the only thing I'm not a big fan of. The seasoning and saltiness just aren't for me. They taste better dipped in the sauce, but next time I'll probably skip the fries and try a different side. I did try the chicken and waffles and it is pretty good. The restaurant has been clean both times I've visited, and the staff have always been friendly and attentive. If you're having trouble deciding what to order, they're happy to give suggestions without being pushy. I'll definitely be back because I still want to try the wings, mac and cheese, and a few other things on the menu. Overall, good food, huge portions, friendly service, and a fun spice challenge. If you love spicy food, definitely give the Angry Hot a try and see if it's hot enough for you!
