But Leonard's knew it was a bad look, and even though they hadn't touched the alternator or had anything to do with it, they gave me a more than fair price on the repair. But what really impressed me is they got the old battery out of my car, took it to Walmart and got a replacement (it was still under warranty) and installed the new battery for me! 1 Star -- Completely Disrespectful Treatment…read more I have never cried over bad customer service in my life until this experience. I'm an LVN, and I had just worked a 16-hour shift when I came out to my car and it wouldn't start. I called around trying to find somewhere that could help me and specifically asked if bringing my car in would be an inconvenience. I was told, "Bring it in." So I did. I explained what was happening and was given a quote. My first reaction was that I couldn't afford it. Not because I don't believe mechanics deserve to be paid fairly.. they absolutely do.. but because this was my rent money. I needed a moment to process the cost and figure out what I could do. I ultimately decided to go ahead with the service, which was already over $400. I was then asked to come outside and try the new battery. It still didn't start. Then I explained that I have a Smart Start ignition interlock device in my vehicle. I'm over 2.5 years sober, and I'm proud of that. Having a Smart Start is not something I'm ashamed of, and I certainly never expected it to become a reason for me to be treated like a problem customer. I was told that because of the Smart Start, my situation was more of a hassle and that he had other customers to deal with. So I asked a very reasonable question: Are you saying you aren't going to help me because I have Smart Start? The answer was basically that they could, but now I would have to pay another $197 just to make a phone call to get a code, and then another $197 to perform the test. That's nearly $400 more, and I was understandably shocked. I asked questions. I said I felt like some of this was unnecessary. I was trying to understand why I was suddenly being charged hundreds more. And instead of explaining it to me like a paying customer deserves, I was told to find somewhere else to take my car because they had other customers who could "actually afford things." Read that again. "Other customers who can actually afford things." I was absolutely stunned. I asked if he was telling me to leave and that they weren't going to work on my car. He told me he wanted to make sure I could afford it because he was too busy to sit there and talk. That was the moment I realized exactly how little my business mattered to them. I understand being busy. I understand mechanics work hard. I understand working outside in the Texas heat. I have zero problem paying someone for their time and expertise. What I do have a problem with is being humiliated for asking questions about a repair that was costing me hundreds of dollars. I'm not rich. I'm an LVN. I work extremely hard, and I had just worked a 16-hour shift. I came in needing help because my car wouldn't start.. not to be lectured about whether I could afford their services. Being concerned about the price does not make me a bad customer. Being unable to immediately hand over hundreds of dollars does not make me less deserving of respect. And having an ignition interlock device does not give anyone the right to treat me like an inconvenience. I've had more work done on my car for far less money, and I was willing to pay for the work I came in for. I simply wanted an explanation before agreeing to keep spending money I literally needed for my rent. Instead, I was made to feel poor, inconvenient, and unworthy of their time. I walked in exhausted and already stressed about my car and my finances. I walked out in tears a couple times claiming I had to use the restroom. That says everything you need to know about the customer service I received here. Businesses have every right to charge what they charge. They have every right to be busy. And they have every right to refuse a job. But if you're going to tell a customer to take their car somewhere else because you have customers who can "actually afford things," don't be surprised when that customer tells everyone exactly how you made them feel. I came here looking for help. I left feeling humiliated. I will never bring my car here again, and I absolutely cannot recommend this place to anyone who expects to be treated with basic human decency. The only good thing about this place was I think the daughter of the owner. Too bad she showed up last minute because I probably would have recieved a way better experience.
