My husband and I had lunch there a few weeks ago. We had good service and found the food tasty and the portions were on the large side. He had a salad and I had a soup and sandwich combo. We went back last night a party of eight for dinner and Peter was our server, he was attentive and friendly, he even brought us some items from the pickle bar to sample, the cucumber onion salad and the pasta salad were delicious. Everyone ordered something different and some had to go boxes as the portions are plentiful. I had the mussels appetizer and a side Greek salad. Both were great. My husband had a sandwich with potato salad on the side, I had some of his potato salad on my Greek salad, yummy. The prices are reasonable we will definitely be back. DB's features an EXTENSIVE menu, full of every imaginable comfort food entree one can think of... burgers, seafood, deli sandwiches, Italian, etc. Two thoughts immediately hit you: 1) Too many options. Can't decide what to order. 2) They can't possibly do this many things well. #1 might be a correct assumption... and yet, I did not go catatonic from the overwhelming number of options and did indeed order an entree. And limited research suggests #2 is also a false assumption. ALL the varied entrees consumed by my dining party (fish sandwich, patty melt, salmon, Portabello burger, meatloaf, Tuscan chicken sandwich) were rated "very good" or "excellent." They also specialize in pickles and they will give you one free selection. After that you will pay a minimal amount. The service is fantastic and the food was delicious. I was visiting friends near Daytona & we thought any place with 'Pickle' in its name is probably a fun place to try. We were correct. This restaurant looks like it's been around for awhile. Covid has apparently altered the way they do business. They used to have a pickle, olive, & salad bar to belly up to & supplement your meal. Now that bar is scaled down with fewer options & signs stating it's not open to the customers. Instead the wait staff will bring you 2 small helpings from the bar as you await your entree. I requested broccoli salad, which was tasty but a little too mayo-heavy, & I requested half-sour pickles. The bowls didn't hold much, but it was fun receiving them. So the menu is full of other fun items, including much of what you'd find at a Jewish deli up north. I intended to get matzoh ball soup, but they were out of it. So I opted for a burger with a side of potato pancakes. Both were obviously made to order & very fresh tasting. The restaurant had a good flow of customers & takeout. I went to this resturant recently and sat at the bar alone. The bar tender just kept passing by, not a word, no, "can I get you something to drink" or "do you need a menu". Nothing! Literally 15 minutes went by and this bar tender passed though the bar 3 times staring into her phone acting like she wasn't working there. We've never been treated as badly as by the "manager" who said he was the CEO and CFO of the restaurant and screamed so the entire restaurant could hear about the owners cancer. We won't be back after eating there hundreds of times over the last 15 years. We had called twice over the last two days to let them know we were coming in and were told we would have to wait 20 minutes or so, which was fine until the hostess was being rude and the manager was the rudest restaurant employee I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. I've eaten here quite a few times, both for lunch and dinner and have never left disappointed. This restaurant reminds me of a NY diner, plenty on the menu to choose from. Not sure what happened here but the food quality and service has went to hell. Went here a few weeks back with the family for a meal. My wife and daughters sandwiches were inedible, just plain gross. I had what was supposed to be corn beef and cabbage. It was cold, mushy and I did not eat any part of it. Upon noticing that our meals were untouched the server asked what the issue was, we told her and asked for our check. She said the manager was going to comp us dessert, we said no just give us our check so we could get going. She came with our check and said that the manager took off 50% of the bill. Way to go! The manager never came out personally to see what the issue was and I'm sorry, 50% off of meals that have not been touched is just inadequate. We used to eat with regularity but not anymore.
