I've driven past this shop for months now and it's been discussed at my knitting club so after finally having a new project on hands + reason to visit; I decided to drop on by! StitchStop conveniently has a small parking lot available around back on Moorpark so you won't have to wander the neighboring streets for parking. The pricing of their notions (zippers/thread/needles/hooks) overall is competitive and better than the (sadly) recently vacated nearby Joann's Fabrics also in Sherman Oaks. That said; their selection is limited, likely as the shop is still new and finding its footing + small store room. For example; I specifically dropped in for both circular knitting needles in a size I wanted a longer cm length in for the cardigan project I'm on + a brown zipper. While they had 2 lengths of circular needles for all sizes available; both weren't long so I couldn't pick up what I needed here. However, they had a ton of zippers in different sizes and colors! Yarns here include both acrylics and naturals (both 1 color and dyed). Fabrics are predominantly cotton in fun prints or fleece blanket type fabric, absolutely no spandex spotted, limited chiffon. There are some nicely priced vintage patterns available.

Posted warning at the entrance of no children of a certain age and also an age limit to purchase. Attended a very cool seminar presented by Glen (45+ years experience) and Laura (very detailed and cautious). Both had so many tips and tricks with live demonstrations...I should have brought a notepad; others were much more proficient. Truly inspirational place and hub for our projects. Some of the items are exclusively sold at Reynolds Advanced Materials; they even have their own crafted stuff that are far superior in quality and inexpensive. Remember that you should always do your research on what you'll be handling as the side effects are no joke. Errors/mistakes could cost hours and money.

I was fortunate enough to chat with Lily! She asked me exactly what I was there to receive, and I told her I needed a fun costume, without spending tons and tons of money. We went through a catalog, and then we took a walk to see what costumes were lurking. I found a cool costume, and also another one. We were both pleased that at least we narrowed it down to just two. We came to the consensus that although one may be a bit more lively, the other would be more comfy for an all-day event. I sent a picture for approval, and I was told everything worked except the Hat. Forunatly, We knew that if we switched the hat, we could still have a great look. She got me two potential Hats from a very high shelf in the back. And I couldn't quite decide, so I ended up purchasing both! I knew that I didn't want to take any more time in analysis paralysis, but Lily was very patient with me, and she knew this was important to me, so she was right by my side the whole time! Once I got home I noticed that there was a stain on one of the hats that we just didn't catch, so I came back to make a note, and Christina, her boss, was kind enough to take some baby wipes and make it looks spick and span. It's funny because once the stain from the silly hat was gone, I said, " ok good, now I feel confident wearing this!" Both Lily and Christina were very kind, pleasant, and helpful. But the shop has completely not kept up with the times. Not having your inventory priced with tags is a no-go, full stop. "It's too hard" or "we have too much stuff" are not acceptable explanations when it creates a really awkward situation for everyone involved: the owner, who has to look up prices individually, and the customer, who may be caught out at the register when something is out of budget. Their tenure is evident by the sheer volume of things they have, and to their credit, their stock is extremely varied and large. Quite easy to lose two hours here. But I found the service hot and cold: they'd sometimes follow me around, but respond coldly when I asked questions. The pricing structure and service just made this a really unpleasant experience that was not at all offset by their large stock. I will skip this when I'm in the area and won't be recommending to friends.

It's quickly become my place of joy, it's so rare to find third space environments these days so I feel lucky to have found such a great community. Within my first month of lessons with Lana I've been able to learn how to make a quilt (have barely sewn in years!).
