I've been wanting to try Shipley for quite a while. This regional chain originated in Texas, but…read morethe donuts were SUPER popular in Starkville, MS, when I went to Mississippi State University for undergrad. For whatever reason, though, I never tried them while I was there! I was excited when I heard a Huntsville location was opening. It's in a new development on the northern side of town, though not too much has gone in alongside it. I tried donuts from here when a coworker's sister kindly brought a dozen for us to share at work. As such, I can't comment on service or cleanliness since I didn't go to the restaurant. I can, however, comment on taste and presentation! The donuts looked good. She got multiple flavors/styles: classic glazed, cinnamon sugar, chocolate glazed, chocolate with sprinkles, etc. They were packaged nicely and looked pretty. I chose a cinnamon sugar donut. This was a classic yeast donut fried and then tossed in a cinnamon sugar mixture. Overall, it was just...fine. I thought the dough/bread itself was a little tough and chewy. The cinnamon sugar was pleasant but somehow the flavor didn't penetrate the donut, if that makes sense. It was a teeny bit bland, but not bad, though also not something I'd go out of my way to get again. I'd like to try a cake donut or a kolache at some point, especially since I am sort of so so on fried donuts anyway. If and when I get around to it, I'll happily update this review!

I was only going to get one. But nostalgia took over. They were better than I remembered. The pink iced one was strawberry. I had to taste it first. The texture was as I remembered, a slight crunch on the outside while the inside was yeasty and golden with a a hint of spice. The atmosphere was friendly, the counters were clean and there was friendly banter between the servers who treated us like we already regulars-- which we will most certainly be. The box is empty now. It will certainly be refilled soon.

Seems like a very poor decision from a business perspective. They have a drive-thru and Madison is filled with professionals on the go. We most likely won't return very often for the sheer fact we have bagels at home we can cut, toast and dress ourselves for significantly cheaper. The color is wrong, the wording is not where it was discussed. The wording itself is wrong. We were told we could pick it up as early as 6 but opted for 9. Her party started at 10. She arrived at 8:50 and she was told the cake wasn't ready. They were rushing to do the lettering on the cake. She did finally get it at 9:20 but with her being 19 she was not going to point out the defects. She waited to get with us, adults, so we could address it. They did show her the cake as they quickly boxed it. So they didn't ask her if it was right... Realistically they wouldn't be able to fix it. The color is supposed to be light blue but I suppose turquoise is close... smh. This would not be easily corrected and it's fine. It would have just been nice for them to do what was discussed like the lettering around the base because our daughter's name is too long for the top. I like how they wrote it over the decoration even though this was not supposed to happen. Oh! And instead of "Charlotte's First Birthday" it's "Charlotte first birthday" in poor condensed font to fit it in. The cake isnt terrible but I expect better quality for $80. It isn't what we wanted. I did call them and let them know but again, what can they do. I'm including photos. I would have rather pay a fraction and order from Publix. They never do me wrong. And while it's more basic I get what I ask for. We did get cupcakes too. They turned out ok but it's a real disappointment about our daughter's first cake. Not the end of the world but a disappointment I'd like to spare others from if possible.
