I've been wanting to try Shipley for quite a while. This regional chain originated in Texas, but the donuts were SUPER popular in Starkville, MS, when I went to Mississippi State University for undergrad. For whatever reason, though, I never tried them while I was there! I was excited when I heard a Huntsville location was opening. It's in a new development on the northern side of town, though not too much has gone in alongside it. I tried donuts from here when a coworker's sister kindly brought a dozen for us to share at work. As such, I can't comment on service or cleanliness since I didn't go to the restaurant. I can, however, comment on taste and presentation! The donuts looked good. She got multiple flavors/styles: classic glazed, cinnamon sugar, chocolate glazed, chocolate with sprinkles, etc. They were packaged nicely and looked pretty. I chose a cinnamon sugar donut. This was a classic yeast donut fried and then tossed in a cinnamon sugar mixture. Overall, it was just...fine. I thought the dough/bread itself was a little tough and chewy. The cinnamon sugar was pleasant but somehow the flavor didn't penetrate the donut, if that makes sense. It was a teeny bit bland, but not bad, though also not something I'd go out of my way to get again. I'd like to try a cake donut or a kolache at some point, especially since I am sort of so so on fried donuts anyway. If and when I get around to it, I'll happily update this review! read more

AWFUL Donuts! If you want stale, rock hard donuts this is the place for you! We went there on Saturday Feb 7. I paid $15 for half a dozen donuts and a "special" Old Fashioned. The donuts were tiny (the size of a small biscuit) and old. They tasted stale. There were huge holes in the middle which means they lacked any kind of substance. The "old fashioned" that I paid $3 for a single donut was so stale and hard we couldn't eat it. Service was good, place was clean...but as far as product goes I'll never go back. read more

The scent of childhood is in this picture. Shipley's was a treat for our family. I had not tasted them in over 25 years. I had my doubts but row after row of childhood delights faced me. I was only going to get one. But nostalgia took over. They were better than I remembered. The pink iced one was strawberry. I had to taste it first. The texture was as I remembered, a slight crunch on the outside while the inside was yeasty and golden with a a hint of spice. The atmosphere was friendly, the counters were clean and there was friendly banter between the servers who treated us like we already regulars-- which we will most certainly be. The box is empty now. I've tried this place a few times and blueberry glazed cake donut is my favorite, I will get the glazed buttermilk cake donut also as it's got a good taste to it. There's 3 donut shops in a blocks distance from each other! I'd say make a day of it and go get a donut from each place and find the one that suits your tastebuds! We were able to try Shipley's & Krispy Kreme before filling up, so Dunkin will have to be on phase 2 of try local shops. My lady enjoyed the Shipley's creme filled better than the big brand down the road. My wife and I have always ordered the powdered donuts, donut holes, and a bear claw (my weakness), and kolaches through Uber Eats. I have not actually gone there in person but today decided to be there right when they open to taste the "freshest batch". I went through the drive-thru this morning at 5am (sorry to the staff for showing up to the drive-thru right before y'all were open), which I did not know they had. The staff was very polite even though I was early by a couple of minutes. They greeted/treated me like they were open. I ordered a half dozen box, which included (3) bold with jalapeño and (3) ham and cheese plus a small black coffee. Pics are uploaded but I ate one ham and cheese before I took the picture because my mouth was watering too much to resist. Oh My Gosh! The ham and cheese when I got home after a 6-8 minute drive was so freaking hot it burned my tongue a bit but still scarfed it down. It was so freaking good! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! The way the cheese melts into the bread and ham with the flavor of the ham was nothing short of incredibly tasty! The bold jalapeño with cheese will totally change how you view breakfast in my opinion! As to my experience with their donuts, I can only speak from the fact that I have had them delivered and that usually included some powdered donuts, donut holes, and a bear claw on multiple occasions and they are so good! My wife and I are blessed to have a warming draw and will keep them there for the morning... sometimes till after lunch and by then the dough usually gets a bit crunchy by then. The donuts plus holes in a warming draw get too hard/stale in my experience. Just leave them out on the counter and if needed then microwave them for 15-20 seconds. *Chef Kiss* Just as good as when they got delivered! As for the small black coffee, I don't ever order coffee nor drink it so I am not a good judge of coffee flavor. I only ordered it to see if it had a good kick of caffeine. I would say it has a decent kick of caffeine and good taste. That is all. I love the food here and will be back! read more

Back in the 70s in MS, I grew up on Shipley's Donuts. So we couldn't wait for them to open & see how it compares. DELICIOUS!! Just as we remembered! Light puffs of glazed pastry!! So yummy. The cream filled chocolate, Bavaria cream, cherry glazed, Bearclaw, apple fritter...yes, we had the works along with 2 large cappuccinos!! I recommend everyone stop by! I was very disappointed with the donuts, apple fritters( had no apples just a cinnamon flavored roll or blob) cinnamon rolls were ok but nothing to brag about- I thought it was overpriced! I would rather have a 2 day old Krispy Kreme donut than anything I got from Shipley's read more
