The therapist, Mary, receives 5 star! The 1 star rating is for the manager and the business. My wife purchased a 1 hour reflexology on Groupon for me. Upon leaving the manager said I would need to pay an additional $20 because the coupon expired and $3.50 for taxes. I told her that the coupon did not expire until May 3, 2018. She then said the $20 was because I changed the date of my session (my original booking was for March 22nd but had to change for today, March 20th, since I was flying out of town for business). Told the manager that the person I spoke to did not mention there was a $20 change fee involved. The manager explanation was that she had to pay the therapist because of my original cancellation. Told manager that my original session was not for 2 days later so how could she pay the therapist? She then insisted that I was told of the $20 fee. I said to her "are you calling me a liar?" Told her that I was a business owner myself and that I would never talk or treat a customer that way. Told her it was not about the $20 but a matter of principle. I purchased a Groupon for a hot stone massage and facial for $69. When I walked in, the receptionist was on her iPhone talking in another language. I couldn't tell if it was business or not, but I was kept waiting. Eventually she hung up and checked me in, told me to have a seat. She got on the business phone briefly, all the while playing with her iPhone. She took me back at the exact time my service was supposed to start, not a minute sooner. After worrying what I had gotten myself into while sitting up front, I was happy with the room. It was a standard spa massage/facial room. Dim lights, comfy temperature. She told me to undress and lie on the table face down. I did. Then I waited. 20 minutes. Twenty minutes alone in a dim room, naked. Then someone banged on the door. It was the massage therapist. She opened the door once I replied, and she was kneeling on the floor outside the door holding a crock pot full of hot stones. she apologized for being late, said her last client came late. I don't her it's no big deal, because what else am I going to say? She was obviously rushed and harried, and I didn't want to make it worse. She started the massage, it was a lot of rubbing, but I didn't mind it. She asked me where I wanted the most attention, and she worked on my neck and shoulders, which is what I indicated. She used the hot stones, and asked if I had a preference: hands or stones. I gave her my preference and she happily listened. She did talk a lot, especially in the beginning. Also, the room started heating up a little too much and she excused herself to get a drink. I'd much prefer the therapist keep water in the room to drink, but I'm not sure that is allowed. Leaving and coming back disrupted my relaxation. She did try to up sell a deep tissue, I declined and she dropped it. My massage did last a full hour, she didn't cut it short because of starting late. Overall, I'd give the actual massage a C. She left and said she'd be back in a few to start the facial. About 5 minutes later she came in and apologized, saying she wasn't going to be able to do my facial, because she had another client. No problem, just get a move on with my facial. The woman who did my facial came in, set up and got to business. She talked about technical skin issues, which led me to believe she knew what she was doing. She tried to up sell another service, I declined, she lowered the price, I declined again. I was aggravated cause I just wanted to relax, not fend off a used car sales person. The facial was good. She was confident and knew what she was doing. One thing that bothered me: she asked if the "massage girl" massaged my neck, I said she did, so she skipped it. Normally when you get a facial, that is part of the package, regardless of whether or not you had a massage before. The room was still heating up, I was sweating...it was hot. She asked if I minded her opening the door. Nope, I was about to die from heat stroke. It was noisy, I could hear people in the reception area, and the phone ringing. When I checked out, the girl who did my facial stood there waiting for her tip, which I felt awkward about. I had planned on tipping her but she was hovering. I asked for a tip envelope for the girl who did my massage. The receptionist who wasn't chatty when I arrived wanted me to buy the same package directly from them, with no expiration date. My boss gave me/co-worker a Groupong to go to the Day Spa located at 313 Millburn Ave, Millburn NJ. I went there yesterday and my co-worker and I were constantly harrassed with the staff asking to purchase other services ($15.00 for face masks, $15.00 for creams or lotions, etc) and then was told by the cashier and the owner trying to scheme us by telling us they "upgraded" our Groupon from a "Signature" massage to a "Stone" massaged when we already had the "Stone" massage Groupon. Then since we weren't going to be charged with anything "extra", the Cashier/Owner told us they gave us a "Deep tissue" massage and should be charged more but will accept $10 pp instead. Then on top of that we were told to pay for "Tax" since Groupon's don't cover for "taxes"???? In any event, we feel as though the staff/owner should have discussed any kind of "upgrades" or "additional fees" or "taxes" before doing anything and then assume anyone will JUST pay the extra charges. This was literally embarrassing and made our Groupon experience awful! I will never go back to this place or even recommend anyone to go there again. read more

First, the therapist entered the room without knocking. Once we were ready, they tried pressuring us into buying extras for an up charge. The two therapists came into the room speaking to each other in their foreign tongue. They giggled throughout the hour while saying a few words to each other we could not understand. The therapist massaging me (female) left the towel/ blanket off my body exposing my bare body for most of the service. She massaged up high on the inside of my thighs and even fondled my breasts. I've NEVER had such a violating experience. They left the room and ignored us as we walked out but chased us down for a tip. DON'T GO THERE unless you want to be felt up! A friend of mine and I purchased facials through an Amazon local deal. They gave a lame facial (some cleaning and moisturizing), and then began to aggressively suggest the need for different masques, future packages, etc. We both declined firmly and they were fairly unpleasant and surly. Upon leaving, we were pressured about tax and the amount of our tips. And pressured to buy products and future services. We finally told them that a deal like this is supposed to entice future customers, not drive them away. We left annoyed, and with oily crap on our skin. I purchased a groupon for services here - $90 for two people: facial, hot stone back massage, champagne with strawberries and chocolate. They did not use hot stones and the massage left me achy. The facial was terrible. The champagne was served in a cup with a slice of strawberry. The chocolate was one Hershey Kiss. They had the gall to ask me for an upgraded service, which she first quoted it to be $125. When I declined, she reduced it to $90, and with every decline, she kept reducing it until she asked me how much I was willing to pay. That's bad business. I will never return. I used an Amazon Local voucher for a Signature Spa Facial. As per the business' website, that package was for ninety minutes and includes "Cleansing peeling, steam, eyebrows shaping, facial massage, remove blackheads, high frequency treatment, eye mask and collagen mask." The voucher stated that complimentary flower tea and chocolates are included. When I called to make the appointment I let them know that I would be using the voucher and asked for a morning appointment. They asked if 12PM would work for me instead. Not really what I was asking for but I accepted the appointment time. I arrived twenty minutes early for my appointment. When I walked into the front I was greeted and they asked if I was there for the facial (without even asking for my name, then again they did not ask me for my name when making the appointment). This has me guessing that their day was slow and they probably could have penciled me in for an earlier time. I gave the receptionist the voucher before going to the back and explained that this was my first time to their business. When I asked how eyebrows shaping was done (explaining that I have never had my eyebrows shaped) the receptionist said that my eyebrows looked very natural and would only need to have a little tweezing. I was escorted to the hallway in the back and was asked if I needed to use the bathroom. I declined. The lady escorting me asked if I was sure, stating that my appointment would be an hour and a half long. I reassured her that I did not need to relieve myself since I had done so prior to coming to my appointment. She seemed confused that I did not need the toilet and started to walk back toward the front, leaving me in the hallway. I asked her if she could show me where the room is. She showed me to the room and explained where I could put my things and how to get ready. After having three other facials (in different spas) I was expecting the esthetician to explain everything she was using on / doing to my face. During this session she only explained two things "this will be cold" and "this is the mask". I have no idea if I got both the eye mask and the collagen mask since I felt a mask for my face but not one for my eyes but the facial massage was great (lots of pressure and rubbing everywhere). I was disappointed with the blackheads removal since only a few were removed. In past facials, I have always had tons of them removed. Even more disappointing was that I did not receive the eyebrows shaping and that the whole service only lasted sixty minutes instead of the ninety. There were some turn offs during my visit. The esthetician was trying to sell me add-ons during the service. That does not make for a relaxing experience. When I received the mask, the esthetician left the room for fifteen minutes (allowing the mask to do its thing). I could hear her through the walls talking with a co-worker about me; how it was my first time at the spa and I did not want any of the additional services she was pitching. It sounded like they were trying to figure out what else they could try to charge me for that visit. When the service was over I was hoping to get the flower tea and chocolates. When I got to the front desk I was instead given a tiny cup (smaller than Dixie) of water, no tea or chocolates. The esthetician who serviced me was sitting at the front desk, watching me put her tip in her tip envelope, not professional at all. While I was sipping the water, the lady at the cashier was pushing hard to sell me a set of facial packages. Every time I declined she kept repeating what was included in it. When I finished the water I was turning to leave. The lady then interjected with a line that tax was not included in the voucher. While this is true (as per the voucher details), I have never been to a spa that charged a tax. If they have, I'm positive that it was included in the service price. I paid the $3 "tax" just so I could leave in peace. Overall, though the facial massage was great, I was not given everything that was listed in the Signature Spa Facial package or the voucher and was not given the full time of the service. I also did not like the attempts to get more money out of me during and after my appointment. I am disappointed to say that I even have a "worst facial experience" but this would be it. After the service I did not feel relaxed and could not wait to get out of there. With all the poor reviews I have read after my appointment, I'm wondering if the treat every customer with a Groupon, Living Social, or Amazon Local voucher this poorly. read more

I bought a living social voucher for a couple's massage for me and my bf. The voucher consists of massage, facial, champagne w/ chocolates & strawberries for a good deal. We were greeted by the receptionist and she answered some questions I had with regards to the facial and the type of massage oil they use, which was great that she was knowledgeable of their products and put my mind at ease. When we got to the room, we had a very small glass of cheap champagne, 3 pieces of hershey's kisses and a clementine that looks like it has seen better days. The aesthetician gave me an attitude in the first place when I asked where we could put our clothes and it felt like they just wanted to rush us with the services since we are the last clients of the day. I DID NOT enjoy my massage and my bf had told me that he DID NOT enjoy his massage either. The massage therapist did not take any intake, she just told me to lay down and then she started working. I tried to tell her my target areas, but she hardly spoke English! I am a Licensed Massage Therapist, so I expected more from someone who claims they do massage for a living. I asked her to give me more pressure and instead, she gave me an even lesser pressure and applied even more oil! The massage was very very disappointing! When it was my turn for the facial, I felt that the aesthetician didn't really care where the product goes into (eyes, mouth, nose) as long as she supposedly done her job to massage my face. She tried to sell me and my bf an upgrade during the facial, which I didn't like. At the end of the session, my eyes were irritated b/c even though my eyes were closed, somehow the product got into my eyes, as well as the corners of my mouth during my facial session. When we were leaving, the receptionist and another person in the spa tried to sell us a package and they wouldn't take NO for an answer! Then they asked us to pay a tax which was not included in the voucher, but we were practically running to the door just to get out of there! Do NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR HARD EARNED MONEY!! We purchased a Groupon for a couples massage, and had a horrible experience. First impression of the place was eh it looks ok.. We go inside, and was ushered to the room. It looked pretty clean. The package was supposed to come with a glass of champagne, chocolate and seasoned fruit. We got a shot of champagne and 2 hershey kisses, with an unpeeled clementine. I've been to several day spa's that were way cheaper but gave excellent service. The two masseuse talked to each other practically the whole time, and starting washing whatever utensils they were using in the room. As i was getting my facial i was asked if i wanted to get a deep scrub that would cost 60 dollars, when i refused she told me that i really need it and that she would take 10 bucks off if i wanted it. I refused again. She did the same thing to my girlfriend.. It was absolutely ridiculous! Im trying to relax and im getting swindled into purchasing a deep scrub. Now to the massage, (if you want to call it that) if you have an ashy back, no worries they'll lotion you down. Thats pretty much what she did. Rub my back! No deep tissue or any type of pressure. I was shaking my head the whole time i was there. Now it's time to go. We were told that there was a 7 percent sales tax and that we had to tip the girls. I've never heard of such of thing. When they arrived they were told that they only scheduled the massage and that they were too busy to do both ( I specifically told my mother to make sure to clarify that it is BOTH a facial and massage, and I, without a doubt, believe my mother did that.) I purchased a voucher on LivingSocial for a hot stone massage for this establishment and was told over the phone that I had to pay the tax because it was not included, which was fine. When I got there, they told us about a $10 upgrade fee if I was interested in the deep tissue massage. I added it and then when I went to pay, they told me that they didnt accept credit cards. I walked a few blocks to the nearest ATM, came back and paid cash. I sat in the waiting room and literally two minutes two customers walked in for an appointment and when they asked if they accepted card, they happily said yes. I was trying to think rationally and I thought maybe they only accepted card over a certain amount. NOPE. One of the gentleman asked if he could pay tip after they charged him. He said he would like to pay $5 in tip. They took the card payment again. So I waited for my friend during her hour long massage, annoyed and ready to leave. When she was finished I went to pay the masseuse a $6 dollar tip (even though I was angry and thought they didnt deserve one in the first place) and he looks at the money and laughs. The woman at the counter then proceeds to tell me the tip has to be a minimum of $10. Not to mention my friend (who is a female) was forced to get a male masseuse. I will never be back. Writing this review because I want to set straight some of the comments from other reviewers. Please note- I did NOT come with a Groupon and can't comment on this businesses' treatment of Grouponers, but I did come on a whim several months ago and received a very attractive "intro/new customer" massage price, which I happily took. I then purchased a 10-pack massage from them and have received nothing but excellent treatment. The girls aren't the most fluent in English, but that's okay because the transaction is straightforward. I like the hard rub that Chinese masseuses provide, and if you don't like it then that needs to be communicated up front or look for another place. The facilities are clean and beautiful, the music and ambient, and the girls are not chatty when my husband and I come for couples massages. In summary, if you're looking for a good deal, want a nice Asian style hard rub, and want a smooth, easy transaction this is your place. Very Disappointing!!!!! Was looking forward to a facial with my sister. Purchased 2 tickets through GroupOn. Called to make appointments and was told nothing was available until March, (because of their Valentine's Rush). I told them that the expiration was in February, they said "no problem, as long as you make the appointment before it expires, it is good." So they gave me the appointment for March. The day of the appointment, they take our tickets and brings us to the room. We are are all ready for the facial, when another lady comes in, saying that the voucher is expired!! (Duh!! I already knew that and would not be there, if they said they would not honor it.) What she was wanted to do was charge us $130 for each facial, since we were there. Explaining to her again, that this was not the case when I made the appointment with them and they told me they would honor the voucher. She wanted to charge us a 'special' $99 each. If you can not accommodate customers during your "busy periods", then don't participate in offers you can not honor. Personally, I felt like I was scammed!! They lied saying they would honor the voucher because of their availability and then to get there they deny it and try to jack up the price. One good thing is the decor inside looks nice. Your reviews may have saved me. When I called to make an appointment the phone was answered very unprofessionally with a "hello"? Then it was tough to get someone who spoke English that I could understand. I had back surgery a couple years ago and after reading the reviews decided this place may not be safe for me. FYI, massage therapists in NJ now have to be State Licensed. Consumers need to be aware and not afraid to ask to see a license with your individual massage therapist's name on it. Licensed therapists are not estheticians and do not do facials, nails, etc., only massage, and they are professionals. read more

When I initially called to make an appt I left a message & didn't receive a call back to schedule an appt. I called again; I'd paid for the service via Groupon & wanted to use it. The person who answered the phone didn't say sorry for not getting back to me, that should have been my 2nd clue that this place was not up to parr. So now I finally have an appt, but have to cancel because of illness. I did so a day in advance. When I showed up, they insisted I pay an additional charge for rescheduling ( a rip off.) Another client came in to cancel an appt that was scheduled within 30 mins. I listened to their response to her, not once did they mention an additional fee for cancelling. There are too many other places offering the same service; go there! Stay away from Millburn Day Spa. Groupon is great & they are responsive to customers. Horrible experience. I bought a living social deal for this place and I would not recommend it to anyone. First they were really unprofessional. They had to explain the tip and tax upfront and showed me what a typical tip looks should be. What?! Don't tell me how much to tip, I will tip based on the service I receive. The place is clean, I'll give them that. I got the hot stone massage and the stones were SUPER hot, almost scalding. I flinched a few times and then the last time I had to say something because it was really hot! This wasn't the first time I received a hot stone massage so I know it wasn't just me not being able to handle it. The massage was meh. I would barely call it a massage. It was more like a back rub with oil. The woman's hand were really rough too that it was scratching me at times. After my massage, I came out and the tip envelop was there. I have been here before and have used a Groupon. The service was good but they are always trying to upsell higher packages and saying it offers more but after trying both it is the same exact massage. This specific time that I went , when I was done , the woman told me that I owed money for the tax so I pulled out my credit card and she said "what about tip?" Which I thought was rude for her to even ask in the first place because they didn't give me second to go in my purse without harassing me! I told her that I would add the tip to the card and she said cash only so I asked where the closest ATM was. The woman insisted on following me to the ATM and made it extremely uncomfortable. I was not pleased at all and therefore only offered her five dollars. She then stood there and told me what I should have tipped her and I told her how uncomfortable she made me feel. If I could give this a half star I would. I had purchased a couples massage through groupon for my husband and myself. We arrived 15 minutes early to settle in as they suggested when I made the appointment. The second we walked in they shifted us straight to the massage rooms (with our winter coats still on, no offer to take our coats) and brought us an unappealing tray of 4 Hershey's kisses that were soaked with strawberry juice from 4 SOGGY strawberries, and two completely flat champagne flutes (no fizzle guess it was sitting around all morning, eww)!!! The masseuse left the room with the tray "balanced" ON the massage table. Ummmm what??? This was just strange!! I called the woman back and said please take the tray to which she suggested I leave it on the floor. I was stunned!! So she removes the tray after I told her there was no way I was putting food on the floor and she tells me to put my clothes on the floor instead. Again, seriously?? Was there a communication gap here or just plain stupidity?? So now to the massage. If you like a massage that is basically a full body rug burn book an appt ASAP. It was awful and I told the lady three times to take it easy and stop "rubbing" the same spot. The masseuses are all oriental and I tried to empathize maybe there was a language barrier. But I've had plenty of massages and this was absolutely 100% AWFUL. After the massage I figured might as well enjoy the champagne that came in the groupon. I should've guessed. They brought me the same tray with now super soaked strawberries and that same champagne. Needless to say we would never go back. The massage was awful and the service was worse. I went in on a whim, after seeing the $49 Mini Facial sign outside. But no sooner had I got under the sheets, with tranquil Tibetan music playing, did the Asian woman start badgering me to upgrade to some Botox like facial "that usually is $185 but today you can get it for $150." I kept saying that all I wanted was the Mini Facial. "No, you really need this Botox facial. It's a good deal. You take it." If I wasn't already undressed with the steam going, I probably would've headed for the door. Besides the aggravation of saying "no" for five minutes, there was also a lot of arguing in Chinese in the hall outside the room, not exactly adding to the calming atmosphere. Another argument ensued when I asked for a reflexology service while my masque was drying for 15 minutes. "Only a half hour or hour!" she scowled at me. "Ok, forget it." "Allright. How is ten for each foot?" I relented. In truth, if it wasn't for the arguing and the pushiness, it would have been a good experience. The facial and foot massage were really expertly done. I received a groupon certificate as a gift from my friend to get a message at DAY SPA Millburn.... I was excited to get one being that it had been while since I had a day off to receive such a treat ... I was SUPER DISAPPOINTED with the service. As I was getting my facial I heard the phone ringing and employees talking in the hall way. Also she washed the bowls she was using the the room! I liked the beginning of the facial but then she convinced me to do a black/white head removal and green tea mask ... I said why not another $35 dollars won't hurt because this was already a gift ....it hurt and not as enjoyable as I hoped it would be ... Then another woman came to do my message. WORST MESSAGING I have ever felt in my life! I even felt like she was messaging in places she shouldn't have been. My body was exposed several times and cold! She had know idea how to keep me warm by folding and tucking the blanket so I would feel comfortable and relaxed. I was tense and frustrated the whole time!!!!! Usually when you go to spas they request information on allergies and previous injuries on the body ...these people didn't care they touched where the wanted to touched and that's it! Then the owner wanted me to purchase some BS $500 messaging package and she insisted over and over again that I needed it and continued to barging with me .... where was I? On canal street???? WTF ... She got mad then, charged my card $42 for that bogus facial. She sent over another employee with envelopes for tips...when I put $8 in both (one 3, one 5) she said I should tip more because the message was worth more! By far, this was the WORST facial I ever had!!!! The person just kept rubbing different types of "stuff" on my face, and was not gentle about it at all! I had to tell her that I was wearing contacts for fear she would rub them out of my eyes! Thankfully, I had my glasses in the car, because my vision was blurry from some of the product that go into my eyes. The neck and shoulder massage that came with the service was actually irrating. She rubbed my shoulder and neck in the same way so many times, my skin was irrated. I actually counted when she moved to the other shoulder, and it was the same move 40 times! During the facial she tried to sell me additional services after I repeatedly refused. Very pushy, even when paying $5 for tax at the end of the facial. I would never go back here. My friend and I used a Groupon and were immediately informed that the tax was extra, and the tax was on the total "value" of the service, not the Groupon price. Then we were informed that they expect us to tip on the "full value" of the services. This was before we even got put in a room. We were put in a room and informed we were getting a "gentle Sweedish massage" hot stones or more pressure would be extra. The massage was too gentle, and the tables weren't comfortable. The massage only lasted 25 minutes, then they put something over our eyes and left the room for about 20 minutes. Upon returning, I questioned them and they stated they had another customer....As far as the facial, it wasn't bad but again, they put a mask on us and left the room for another 20 minutes. The worst part was checking out..After we were each charged an extra $12 for tax, we each gave a $20 tip. (more than it was worth)...That's when they got nasty and practically demanded we give more, claiming that with Groupon's the girls only work for tips. I was beyond disappointed in the Day Spa at Millburn experience. First off I had a living social voucher for a one hour hot stone massage for $39. When we arrived the woman told us that we needed to add a deep tissue massage for $10 additional dollars. My friend and I made it very clear that we did not want a deep tissue massage but would accept a swedish massage for the additional money. Well we both got deep tissue massages even after asking for the pressure to be lightened repeatedly. On top of that there really was no hot stone massage - if the woman spent 10 minutes using hot stones on me that was a lot. The place was very noisy so you were never able to really relax and enjoy the massage. The worst part of the whole experience is when the receptionist rudely pointed out to my friend that she was not giving a large enough tip! She pointed to a chart that told you how much tip you should be leaving, I would not recommend this spa nor would I ever go back there again! This place is the epitome of bad service and false advertising. When I first went in to book the mothers day package they initially reduced a 60 minute facial down to 40 minutes for the price of 60 minutes. Only after I noticed and argued did they change it to 60 minutes like initially agreed upon. I paid for a 60 minute massage, 60 minute facial and 40 minute body scrub, $200 for this package. I dropped my mother off for her Mother's day treat only to get there (after booking an appointment) and see that they over booked numerous appointments. So we had to wait for half an hour to start the treatments. I hoped that they didn't try and cheat her on the time since they were running behind and seemed to be shady. Once I picked her up I had no idea what I was in store for. The 60 minute body scrub was only for the back apparently and if she wanted more to be done then that would have cost extra. Her massage was just for the back and if she wanted more body parts then that would have cost extra. Her 40 minute facial included them leaving a mask on her face for over 20 minutes (leaving the room in the process). The amount of con artistry that went on in this 'business' was unlike any other place I've been too. They are LIARS, CROOKS, & THIEVES. I decided to try this spa because I was in need of a quick eyebrow and lip wax. I usually go to European waxing center which I love and the wax works great on me there. But because I live close to this spa and was in a pinch I decided to do it there. All the staff there except one lady did not speak English. They left me in a dark room alone for 15 minutes until finally someone came to wax me. She spoke very broken English and did not seem to care about my concerns. She was going so quickly that she ended up getting wax in my eye lashes (which are semi-permanent extensions). The wax was way to hot and ended up badly burning my lip. And when I got home I noticed that there were left over wax strips stuck in my hair. Overall I was left with deep red burn marks on my face and gooey eyelashes. Really hoping this is all fixed by prom. I do not recommend this place for waxing and hope they get there act together. read more

I really dont like giving such horrible reviews, but i walked out of here feeling terrible. I made an appointment thinking that 70/hour was really not that bad for a sweedish massage. I walked in feeling a little uneasy about the salon from what it looked like when you first walk in and from the outside. It was also really difficult to make the appointment as the level of English was difficult to understand. Walking back to the rooms - i felt a little bit more comfortable. But then the massage was terrible. Really jarring; they massaged you through the sheets and through a towel. When massaging through the towel - it was horribly uncomfortable. I felt more tense during the massage; as i usually almost fall asleep. Also at the end, the aggressiveness in selling you a package is really outrageous. Talk about really ruining any sort of relaxed feeling i had. They essentially will not let you leave unless you buy one. I basically had to be extremely firm in order to just pay and leave. Horrible place. Its worth the extra 20-30 dollars for a much more professional, sophisticated, and relaxed massage. read more
