The staff is nice, but several reasons why 3 stars only. 1. The masseuse kept burping. I understand she may have been in the middle of eating dinner but who burps for a whole hour. 2. She didn't do my upper neck at all, usually they start with that 3. I only got 2 mins on 1 foot and 1 mins on the other foot before the timer went off. I used to like to spa and was a regular here for the cheap massages. Time after time from coming here, the staff will actually ask to tip "more". Even a 20% tip was too little and my friend and I were told to "give more money". That was a complete turn off and the way they treated their customers as far as payment and looked down on them was very unprofessional and rude. It's not your typical day spa but it's clean, cheap, and it does the job. It was $30 for a 30 minute massage and $40 for a 60 minute massage. There were other prices, but I went for the hour massage. Let me also add that this place is not for the modest. While every other spa I've been to has respected my privacy, this was different. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't offered a happy ending. But there's a line that was crossed. It wasn't too far over but none of the other fancy type spa establishments have ever gone that far. Would I go back? Maybe. I like to go here because they are close to where I live and parking is not an issue. Massage is ok depending on who is doing it. During my last visit, I asked for hot water after my massage was done and she gave me hot water in a small cup. The water had lot of white particles floating in it. Yuck. So don't ask for water. Another annoying thing is that when I asked them about the comp cards that were sitting on the front desk, they said they are just there but they don't give those to customers. Why would you display it if you don't want to give it to your customer? I will still go here but not my first choice. read more

All around decent experience. The prices are fair. I went with a 90-minute massage and was charged $65 instead of $60. I guess this was because I used my debit card instead of cash? Not sure...nothing was explained to me and the price listed for 90-minute was $60. The facility was decently clean. I noticed the table i was put on had some element of crumbs and body hair on it - which most definitely means other people were on that table before me...so they don't change the dressings with each customer. OK. Can't say I expected them to. The bath towel they used to cover me during my massage smelled clean though. As for the actual massage, I don't have any complaints. The female masseuse that worked on me covered my entire body. I wish they would spend more time on my limbs, hands and feet but most places focus on the back. Same experience here. She worked on me for the full 90 minutes and was professional. I tipped her $20 in cash - she earned it. For the price, ease of appointment (i basically walked in) and quality of massage I would come back. They do reflexology and maybe i'll try that next time. This is definitely a good value massage in the area. However I can't deny that I prefer a cleaner spa experience, I just don't like spending over $200 a massage each time i go. So this was one of the more bizarre massages I've ever had. Similar to the other reviews, you get what you pay for and can't beat the convenience of just walking in. (It was $30 for 30 minutes and I had no appointment). There is a definite language barrier, which made for difficult communication. I walked in and said I'd like a 30 minute massage, I was instructed to follow the person behind the desk, and was placed in a room where they closed the door without saying anything. I went back out to confirm I should disrobe and wait for a masseuse. The massage starts off for what felt like the first 20 minutes through a beach towel. The masseuse aggressively went over my back without directly touching it and had her hands over the towel. Truthfully, it was down right painful but that's my fault for not speaking up. The last 10 minutes she took the towel off and used oil which felt nice, but no where near a professional massage. I set my timer to see if it was the full 30 minutes and it was only 29 but that's not really a big deal, just be mindful to also time it for yourself. In a nutshell... if you're looking for a good, relaxing massage... save the money you would've spent on this one and put it towards the real deal. read more

While I was getting my massage I noticed the masseuse was only using one hand to massage my back and the other hand to decrease the time on their( digital timer.) I got up and call him out doing it, all of sudden "He forgot how to speak english " and called front desk girl since "he couldn't understand a word of what I was saying" to make the story short -"she didn't understand Ither"-. Their staff only speak english when its convinient to them. He continued massaging me but avoiding completely my legs and feet. At this point I'm furious. First time here and I was surprised they took me as a walk in on a Friday..... And that's where they earn 1 star. The second star was warned for the subpar massage. I asked for the 60 minute massage. I put on my timer and it was only 46 minutes. That was including disrobing. When I went to pay with my card the receptionist asked if I wanted to add a tip to the card and I said sure. I told her to add $10. She said NO! To little. I told her a tip is a gratuity not mandatory and I feel that $10 for the service rendered was fair. I will not be coming back. don't waste your money I've Been a customer for over two years and the last few months this place as gone down hill. The management does not seem to care as long as they get your money. I actually had to walk out of an hour massage 30 minutes into it. And they still wanted to charge me for an hour. They didn't care that of the poor service just my money. THe manager even lied to me saying she is not the manager and that the manager went to China and will not be back for several months. I believe she is the mother of the legal owner of the spa. I found this place when visiting my parents at the Claridge in Verona. I was happy to find that it is a clean and therapeutic massage center. They use traditional Asian techniques. Price is good but you get what you pay for. Came here since the beginning and it's amazing how management has declined in servicing their clientele. Please make sure if you're a busy professional to get a hold of someone that speaks english to confirm your appt and with the right therapist. The massage quality has gone down where the technique is no better than having your buddy give you a quick massage. All therapist have all different technique to massage so it's all over the place where it's a hit or miss. The worst part is when you pay because although the massages are cheap they expect you to tip almost the same amount as the massage which doesn't make sense. a $60 massage does not warrant a $20 tip although the 20% rule of thumb should always apply. The bottom line is extremely disappointed with how this place has gone downhill and management doesn't care. They just want as much people going in and out without keeping the integrity of what got them their business which is through their customers. Those are customers should all be treated the same and equality and more importantly have the management staff to properly manage this place. Paying an extra $10-20 elsewhere may be worth it if you're looking for a trained massage therapist is my opinion. Good Luck read more

A little gassy So this was my second time visiting the Pompton Spa. The prices are good and the massages are relaxing. But, I think they should add some spa scents to make the atmosphere a little more relaxing. I could also hear the people at the front desk having a loud conversation. Yesterday, I went in for the massage the masseur started farting 35 maybe 40 minutes into the massage. He did it about 3 times. Loud!!! Very weak and poor quality massage. Basically felt like someone running their hands back and forth across your skin for 60 minutes. No deep pressure work--nothing relaxing about it. Also, they rip you off. I went with a friend so our bill for two hour long massages at $50/hour was obviously $100. When I went to pay, I told the cashier to ring me up for $125 including the tip for both massages. She said...how about $130? Because I didn't like the massage that much anyway, I said no...$125 is fine. However, when I looked at what I got charged on my debit card, the total spa charge was $131.63. So the cashier did go ahead and charge more to my card than I authorized--to improve the tip she didn't think was significant enough. I'm not going to fight it for 5 bucks, but seriously. Very shady. And it wasn't even a good massage. Go somewhere else and get better service and treatment as a customer. This place is greedy and to be frank, sucks. read more

I went to the spa as a walk in with no issues around 6:30PM on Saturday, I waited roughly about 5/10 mins and was taken to my room. The only instruction I was given was to remove my clothes and the masseuse closed the door to give me time to change. There was no sheets on the bed but was given a pretty long and wide towel (looked like a beach towel) to cover myself with. When the masseuse came in she set her timer and began the massage. The massage was good (ive had better) but she didn't seem strong enough to apply more pressure. I don't know if she was just not that strong or she worked all day and was tired but it was mediocre. My 90 min massage was over, I dressed and went to the front desk to pay. that's when I got pissed. I paid my bill (the masseuse legit stands next to you as you pay waiting for her tip) and handed the lady her tip of $13. I do not know the standard tip but thought that was sufficient considering the massage length, overall massage and what I know others pay/paid. The masseuse said something in Chinese to the cashier and the cashier turned to me and said "Oh 90 mins massage, she tired she worked her hands so much for you can you give her more money?" I replied no I do not have anymore to give her I believe that is sufficient she said can you ask your friend? I said no I cannot and left the place. I called and asked for the boss (Lisa) she wasn't in so I got her name and called her the next morning. Needless to say she apologized but told me her girls work hard and maybe $15+ tip next time seems more realistic (18% only work for restaurants). I cannot understand the poor reviews this place has gotten, so here are my thoughts. - It's an Asian massage joint. If you've never been to one, just realize it may not be your cup of tea. The style of message is more pressure points and joint aligning than what most people would expect as "massage." - Language barrier is definitely there. I think the only question my masseuse asked me was, medium or hard. And throughout the hour, she asked if I was okay a few times. But I was totally fine with it. - towel covering for the first twenty minutes of the session is also standard procedure for an Asian Spa. Chinese/Asians believes that you have to warm up the body with "chi" before they can loosen up your joints and muscles. So in its essence, they're doing what they believe is better for your body. - 40 bucks for 60 mins of massage? I don't think I can think of a better deal around this area. I've gotten $150/hr deep tissue/Sports massage. I've also been to Chinatown $20/hr place. I don't think you can really beat this price and the environment it offers. - Tips? The masseuse typically make much less than minimum wage at these places. Certainly it's up to you, but I like to imagine I just got a $100 massage and tip my masseuse accordingly. I believe if you adjust your expectation and treat this place as a Ford rather than a Cadillac, you would have a good time too. read more

When I walked in, I was showed to a room and on the bed was a ripped beach towel instead of a sheet. I thought, okay, it's $40 not a big deal. Then when the woman started the massage and applied wayyyyy too much pressure. I was in pain and telling her it hurt. She said I was too tight and continued. I kept asking her for to do it lighter, but that never happened. I am literally bruised on my back and sore to the touch. That's not even the best part! In the middle as she was going down ny back she pulls the towel down by my feet and pulls down my underwear!!! Did not appreciate that at all so I pulled it up and she pulled it back down. I have never had that happened before. To top it off, she had to leave the room for a second in the middle and let the door wide open for anyone to see me naked on the table. I ended up in the hospital a week later with bad muscle spasms. They also have zero business sense. I went to tip 20% on a massage that was so terrible. That's industry standard. She asked if I wanted to tip higher. The nerve... she was lucky to get 20%. When I checked my statement she charged 30%!!!! I had to call my credit card to dispute the amount.
