I had the same experience as several others. Dawson put in a sump pump in my home several years ago soon after my husband died. Good job. A year late I noticed sump pump was not flushing regularly. Left a message at Dawson's but ended up with another company as they were quicker to respond. Flash forward to next year, huge storm coming thru and I was nervous because I could not hear the sump pump working. Called Dawson and he came over. He noticed that someone else worked on my sump pump-mumbled something, closed his plumber bag and left me. I told him I was really worried about basement flooding but he kept walking. Unbelievable! We used Dawson's Plumbing for many years to fix leaks, toilets etc. He always did a good job, but he was a little cranky. Recently, we asked him to look at a couple of toilets. He said the last time he was at our house he noticed we got a new hot water heater. He said he would not come to our house as we didn't have him install the water heater. We explained the water heater was part of a larger job in which we also got a new HVAC system. He would not change his mind. We were stunned at his behavior and we will not be using him again. His behavior is strange and we would not recommend him based on his personality problems. read more

To be clear, Mr. Dawson is a great plumber. Over the past ten or so years, Mr. Dawson handled many jobs around our rental townhouse. He fixed toilets, faucets, and more. During a repair several months ago, he noticed that a new hot water heater was installed. He mentioned he was bothered that he didn't get that job. The job had been done by the company that had installed the previous one, another small business. I can understand his annoyance at not getting that job. Today, when I contacted Mr. Dawson today to ask if he would please come over and repair several leaking faucets, he said no. Since he didn't get the water heater job, he was no longer willing to take business from us. So, a reliable plumber became unreliable. And a working relationship of many years ended. Obviously, that is his choice. Other reviews note he can be cranky which is true. He can also be great. The last appointment ended with him buying a box of Girl Scout cookies from my daughter. But, allowing a working relationship to end due to one glitch? Not so cool. So, in my take, he moves from providing 4 and 5-star service down to 2. read more

I just called to inquire about getting some small jobs done. He said something like "I don't want to do them" and then the line went blank. I called back thinking a connection had been lost. He said "nope. I don't want to do the work." I can understand that he wants bigger paying jobs but I don't see why he has to be rude about it hanging up on potential customers. I have used Dawson before and although he is not very friendly he really knows what he is doing and his work is good. I tried to get him to run a gas line for a stove and he was very rude to me on the phone. He came to take a look and was really rude to my contractor. He stormed out of the house saying no thanks. I don't see how someone who is so rude and unpleasant has any work at all. If he didn't want to do it in the first place he should have said so. I will never use him again. The technician who installed both of my toilets was extremely kind, helpful and willing to field any questions about the process. They were willing to do a small job like installing toilets (which was tough to find) and were available extremely quickly. Everything about the experience was great and the price was extremely fair. Good, honest plumber - what you see is what you get. I called him to snake out the drain of my plugged up tub. He came to my house within about an hour and cleaned out the drain without any fuss. His price was about 60% of the next lowest price, and about 30% of the highest... which is to say, about as fair as you can get, since the job was done perfectly. I would use him again. read more

I installed disposal under kitchen sink myself several months ago, didnt do a good job, started leaking. I tried few google results first....steinhorst came and quoted me $400+ for it! They said all this stuff about well, theres buildup, and need to undo my work, and blah blah blah. I said $400 ridiculous, I installed it myself before (although poorly), I knew what the work entailed. Ended up calling Dawson....He is friendly enough, and did the work for $130. took only an hour. The floor drain in our laundry room clogged up recently, so I called around for estimates and received quotes of up to $300.00 to do the job. Luckily, several of my neighbors had used Mr. Dawson for various plumbing jobs and were pleased with his work and prices so I contacted him to do the job. He called before he got to the house, he arrived on time, did the job professionally, and cleaned up before he left. I could not ask for anything better; however, it did get better when he told me the price of the job. His price was quite a bit less than half of the highest estimate I received. I spent hours going thru online plumbing companies and they were either closed at 5:00 PM or would not give me a ballpark estimate over the phone. I called Home Depot and they had a plumbing company call me, but they wanted to sell me a new water heater; I told them it is a new water heater and I just needed elements replaced. They said they don't do that. I just needed two heating elements replaced in my water heater; how difficult can this be. I had the new elements ready to install. I was looking thru the Burke Conservancy Newsletter and happened upon the page for household needs and found Dawson's Plumbing. It was about 6:00 PM. I called, Mr. Dawson answered. I asked him for an estimate he said $110 per hour then $30 for every 15 minutes after. I asked about how long he thought it would take he said with no problems an hour at most 1.5 hours. He said he would call before he came. He called, arrived on time and had my elements replaced in no time and didn't even have to drain the water heater. I was impressed. I am very pleased with Dawson's Plumbing and will not hesitate to use him again. I found him pleasant, friendly, and funny. Since I couldn't get any estimates over the phone I don't know how his rates compare, but $110 seemed reasonable for the job at hand.. read more
