What ultimately happened was far more disturbing. I was bedridden, extremely vulnerable, and during one treatment I opened up emotionally while he was working with me. Nothing I shared was unusual or inappropriate. He walked out of the room. I assumed he had gone to put coins in the parking meter, but he never came back. Afterward, he never responded to my emails or phone calls. I was desperate for some explanation and closure after being left that exposed, and at the time I still wanted him to continue working with me. I have lived with a complex structural medical problem for many years and have encountered a great deal of cruelty and unprofessional behavior, but Joe's conduct still stands out. Abandoning a bedridden patient in an acutely vulnerable moment without a word, and then refusing all communication, was profoundly cruel, immature, and unprofessional. Unfortunately, I also think this reflects on the practice as a whole. I wish Mari provided better professional guidance to ensure that a patient was never treated this way. There are many glowing reviews here, and perhaps others had very different experiences. This was mine, and after all these years I believe it deserves to be part of the record.

Which, I am gathering, is what osteopathy is about. Listening to the body and helping guide it to heal as a whole. I come to Dr. Hering with 3 years of back and sciatic pain. 4 chiropractors, accupuncture, physical therapy, rolfing, private yoga instruction. But, still haven't found the root of the problem. I am hopeful with osteopathy.

She'll say things like I would like to not see you on antibiotics again or take Tylenol/IB for fever but when you're in the middle of illness and she's not available like a PCP to have conversations about appropriate measures of care, what's one supposed to really do? I end up calling my PCP and the advice is different and the illness and pain/fever need to be addressed, and quite frankly relieved. The care is mostly wholistic but it's not complete so I feel unsatisfied at times. My chief complaint is that she tends to run behind schedule. Since I pay her up front and submit a bill to my insurance I expect more timeliness. And I have noticed that she has started booking appointments every 15 min online. As a reference point my family and I see other physicians where we pay up front and submit super bills on our own, and these other doctors almost always run on time. It's the courtesy of paying the whole fee upfront.

My daughter was very timid at first but after the 1st session she's super comfortable and feels right at home at Kylie's office. Parking is street parking and super accessible. I've been to several other osteopaths in the last 15 years, and I thought I'd give Kylie a try. Her bedside manner is terrible, and on top of that she is not professional. The "treatment" consisted of her putting her arms under my bacK and not moving them whatsoever except for once when she also moved a finer, this for about 20 min. Then she stopped and left me on the table for another 20 min while she CHECKED HER EMAILS RIGHT NEXT TO ME! I was confused and felt like speaking up, but I remained open minded...besides, I had paid for an 1.5hr initial consultation and there was still some time left for something else to happen. When she did finally get back to me for the last 2 mins or so, she did the same thing and simply asked "how does that feel?" I was honest and as said "I don't feel like anything changed, bUt hopefully I feel the benefIts of the treatment later," as I awkwardly got up and she left the room only saying "I'll meet you outside". I was baffled. I left with the impression that she has very little knowledge of what she's doinG, and was simply trying to kill time during these extended initial consultations. She seems to lack concern and has a very unfriendly/cold demeanor.

I called the Sutter number listed for this location from my car to let them know what was happening and they told me they'll let the office know and no problem. Sutter has a 15-min late policy which allows them to cancel your appointment if you're late. I walked in 14 minutes into my appointment time. After checking in and waiting to see the doctor, I was told that Dr.Wallace decided to cancel my appointment. I was shocked! I asked to speak to Dr. Wallace, but I was told she needed to leave early that day and was filling out paperwork. I waited to speak to the clinic manager and complained that my appointment should not be cancelled because a doctor wants to leave early on a Friday afternoon and that I was not technically late. She explained that I was, because the checking in process took about 2-3 minutes. I had a time sensitive medical reason why I needed to see a PCP and waited weeks for that appointment. I was crying uncontrollably in the lobby and requested again to just speak to the doctor briefly, but she refused and did not care. It is a terrible feeling to deal with a medical problem and feel that no one is willing to help you. I cannot imagine that a doctor who treats any of her patients in this careless way can be an effective or empathetic caretaker.

Unfortunately the intake appointment was the only good part of dealing with her office - anything outside of the room gets little to no response. Dr. Wallace prescribed a medication that is necessary in assisting a medical condition I had, but when insurance initially denied it due to her prescribing too low a dosage, I was unable to get any follow up help on appealing or prescribing at the correct dosage. Multiple follow ups went unanswered, and in over three weeks no resolution was made. Ultimately had to go back to my original PCP, who is in a different part of the state, and was able to get the prescription including pre-authorization within two days. Whether this is an issue with Dr. Wallace, her office, or a centralized Sutter insurance team, this was unacceptable. If you don't have any prescription needs she might be a good fit, and I can tell she's a good doctor, but outside of that the standard of care was not met in any way. I cancelled all future appointments.

Afterward it's like stepping out of a piping hot sauna on a cool day, like something different you can't quite put a finger on but it feels great. My thinking improved. I had more clarity without struggling for it. I have chemobrain and NFB helped. I could remember words faster. That's a typical symptom of chemo brain, to lose words that you know. In my case they are complicated words, like gaslighting, that I couldn't remember this morning. Or the name of the street near me. Crazy, but it's a real thing and it will drive you nuts. If you are on chemo, NFB helps noticeably. It helps with clarity in general, and for being able to keep track of thoughts and where you put something you had in your hand just a second ago. An interesting thing is that NFB is so gentle that, as I said before, you can't quite put your finger on exactly what's better. UNTIL YOU LOSE IT. I haven't had a session for months and may never be able to go back. :( The truth is I miss it bc of Covid-19. I'm sure Carleigh has set up social distancing in her office and is being very careful to protect clients' safety. But because I'm so extremely vulnerable I have to find out from my doc if it's safe for me personally. If it is I will be back for more. The more you do the more it helps. Worth every penny and Carleigh will work with you on the price if necessary. She is a kind woman with a huge heart which I think makes a difference, but the NFB itself is what counts the most imo. Thank you, Carleigh, for all the love and effort you put into our community.
