The staff is friendly and one of owners, Antonia, took the time to share the history of the name and explain the family photos. The menu is simple so it doesn't overwhelm you. Pricing is determined by the number of sides you order. The food: I ordered the Parmesan chicken, oven roasted potatoes, and collards. The chicken was so tender and moist I didn't need a knife to cut it. The Parmesan coating was not the dry mealy one I was expecting. Not sure was kind of wizardry was involved but it worked beautifully! The food was seasoned just right, didn't even use additional salt and pepper. Hubby had the jerk pork with pineapple habanero sauce. I caught him trying to scrape the last bits sauce off the plate. He even ate the cornbread. They brought everyone's food out and then at that particular time they told one single person at our table they were out of whatever dish they ordered. Okayyyy? The overall order took quite some time to initially come out so the one guy at our table had to decide whether to order something else or scrap dinner all together. At first glance, this place is really nice! Nicely furnished, it would appear, and has the potential to be upscale. Once inside, we took a seat at the bar and ordered beverages. The staff are a bit coarse, wearing sweat clothes and ball caps. Our bartender even spent a good amount of time on a personal phone call while serving us. The prices and atmosphere would suggest a level of service and professionalism not found at this restaurant. I ordered the bratwurst, which was good! Johnsonville is one of my favorites, and the bun was good as well. The potatoes and onions were burnt, or at least the onions were. My friend ordered the jerk pork. It too was good but not great. One star only because there isn't a no star. Horrible experience. We were greeted, party of 4, at 6:25 and seated immediately. Restaurant was about 60% occupied. Drink orders were taken quickly, 2 tap beers one mixed drink and a water. Beers came out about 5 minutes later, mixed drink another 5 minutes then the water. Took over 10 minutes to get a glass of water??? At that point the server asked if she should bring everyone water. Um, yeah, you should. Order was taken, keep in mind we arrived early for dinner in this area. Things get busy after 7. We ordered pot roast 2, and parm chicken 2. And the sides. After about another 15 minutes the server came out and said they were out of pot roast what else would we like. We both went with the pork. Yup, 10 minutes later, "sorry, we just ran out of ethe pork, what else do you want?" Ordered another. After another 10 minutes or so they brought out Two of our meals. Then, a few minutes later, one more and we were told they would have the fourth out in a minute as they ran out of roasted fingerling potatoes and were roasting more. 8 minutes later, our food now Ice cold, they had a kitchen employee bring out the fourth plate. Just say it down and walked away. No "I'm sorry for your wait" or anything. Keep in mind our drinks have been empty for over 40 minutes. The potatoes were waiting on were not the roasted fingerlings yet the simply cubed up some of the potatoes they use for mashing, boiled spuds, and served that instead. I asked for a manager, now our an hour into the deal and she came over and spoke. I told her the experience was worse than poor and she said yeah, I understand. We left, and hour and 15 minutes after arriving, without eating as all the other plates were cold. Now, at this time people were waiting out the door. They were still taking orders, as we were leaving for pot roast and pork roast and servers were not telling them they were out. WOW Never again. Very sad to see such a poor experience in such a great area.! read more

A couple of friends and I had lunch at Davis Wayne's today. We were greeted and drink orders taken quickly, our food orders taken when we were ready. I chose the veggie plate (choice of four sides, not all of which are actually veggies). I selected Brussels sprouts, mixed Southern greens, and fried corn - all absolutely delicious. However, the sweet potato casserole, while tasty, was just mashed sweet potatoes (not even well mashed) with some toasted mini marshmallows on top - not at all what I expected based on my past wonderful experiences with sweet potato casseroles. Also, they were out of a couple of the sides listed on the menu - not a big deal, but two that seemed very basic and should be readily available at opening time, pinto beans and pasta salad. Another odd thing is that bread isn't served with the meal, but even stranger is that you can order cornbread - as a side! That means a piece of cornbread, which my friend ordered and said she would not recommend, costs $2.50 if you consider it as one of your four veggie choices (four for $10). That's some very pricey cornbread, especially if it isn't very good! There were only a few customers at the restaurant when we arrived, but it filled up, with people even waiting for tables to open up, before we left. This may be why we had to wait longer than I expected for our food - mostly the kinds of things already prepared in bulk and just needing to be plated - to arrive. Perhaps that also explains why our drinks were only refilled when the owner walked up to us to see how we liked our food, and I asked if I could please get more water. (I'd been out for a while, but I hadn't been able to get our waitress's attention. She was doing her best, but just had too many people to serve efficiently.) The number of people waiting for tables may also explain why we weren't asked if we wanted to order dessert, something I almost never do but was considering (or it was just my weight-watching fairy looking out for my best interests!). All things considered, Davis Wayne's was worth trying, but I think Countryside - also in the Ooltewah area - is just as good, possibly better, and has a larger selection, fast service, servers who keep your drinks refilled, the best desserts in town, and better prices. read more

Let me start by saying I NEVER review places. (Shame on me). However I saw the reviews for Davis Wayne's and HAD to. Also, most of the reviews were given during their start up, so there is bound to be some differences in performance as the staff was still trying to gauge how long it would take to make their dishes quickly but maintain their freshness. I came here for a birthday dinner with my family a few nights ago, but I was nervous because of the Yelp reviews. Upon eating at Davis Wayne's I realized the reviews were very misleading because this restaurant was phenomenal! We were sat immediately around 6:15 pm, and we had about 11 people in our group. Drinks orders were taken upon sitting and menus were handed out. We all received our drinks quickly and were given a minute to look over the menu. The atmosphere felt warm, and the photos on the walls were endearing given that it is a family-owned business! Our server warned us that it may take a little while since they make everything fresh. We did not complain, and it took maybe 15 to 20 minutes for us to get our food. We were not disappointed! The pinto beans are AMAZING and definitely not your typical beans poured out of a can. They were smokey and full of flavor as was the rest of the food. I'm starting to think people's taste buds are broken if they think the food was anything close to cafeteria food. The macaroni was definitely home-made. The spices in the collard greens were perfect, and as a personal hater of cornbread, theirs made me rethink cornbread as a whole. It wasn't dry like most, and it had a sweet/fluffy taste and feel to it. The menu says that cornbread is a side that can be chosen in the place of another side, but the server told us that it's included for everyone at the table regardless. So instead of just getting 4 sides, (veggies) you actually get 5 (veggies + cornbread)! Overall, I absolutely loved this restaurant. Definitely give it a chance and support your locals. This place does not sell your typical Cracker Barrel food. It's authentic, and the staff is incredibly delightful. They were attentive and upbeat which made the experience there all the better! read more

This was the second time we have eaten here. We wanted to give it another chance after eating there the first time- thought maybe it was just the cook that day or something. Got seated and waited 15 minutes for water. Waited another 30 for food. They were not busy, maybe 4 people in the restaurant with more than 5 servers. They told us the ran out of my entire entree right before my friends food came out. When my friends got their food, one of them had undercooked chicken (still pink) and the other one who had gotten the chicken, had soggy breadcrumbs. The breadcrumbs were wet and clumpy. The mac and cheese was so over cooked that the cheese wasn't a nice crispy cheese, it was tough. Another friends pork chop was so over cooked it took more than a fork and a knife to cut, he had to use hands. All in all, I would give this place a ZERO if I could. read more
