I have been a loyal Visionworks customer for over 10 years and have never been treated or spoken to the way I was today. I recently decided to try a different location that is closer to my workplace, but I could have never anticipated how unpleasant the experience would be. Today, April 24, 2025, at 12:58 PM, I received a call from an associate asking for my insurance information. I responded, "I was under the impression that my information would carry over." Instead of a courteous reply, the associate--who was audibly chatting with someone else while speaking to me--responded in a shockingly rude tone: "If I had that, I would not be calling." I do not believe my question warranted such an unprofessional and disrespectful response. As a result, I canceled my appointment. I refuse to accept that kind of treatment, especially over such a simple and reasonable question. This experience has left me deeply disappointed and genuinely regretting my decision to try a different location. I am now seriously reconsidering my continued relationship with Visionworks. I've gone to several Visionworks over the years but this was my first time at the Smithtown location. The optometrist was very professional and nice, and I was helped quickly and thought I had a good experience. I found out later that I had been charged for a $34.99 protection plan I did not want or need, and which my health savings account would not pay for. I asked for a refund and was given one, but it turned out was actually only a store credit, so I still have to pay back my HSA so they will approve the rest of the cost of the glasses. I was told that Josie adds this protection plan on all the time without customer approval and nothing is ever done about it. When I confronted her about it on my 2nd visit to the store, she didn't even apologize for doing it. Very unprofessional. read more

I had to update this review because in all honesty i'm still annoyed by my interaction with this business. I had my exam with the doctor and ordered glasses. I got the glasses and I kept getting headaches. I went back and got reexamined. The doctor changed my prescription but I still would get headaches. After a year of trying to wear those glasses I still kept getting headaches if I wore them for an extended period of time. For added context this was my first pair of prescription glasses. I needed something because of my vision quality. However, this was the WRONG prescription. It wasn't until I went some place else and got a new prescription that the headaches went away. The new doctor stated, they wouldn't have given me that prescription. So because of this place, I spent a year walking around with a headache and reminded of the awful service I'd received. read more

I don't know what happened here since 13 months ago The front associate (blond women) was help full in the beginning Then it went poorly. Virtual doctor wrote down the wrong script after the exam. They allegedly texted the Dr. And we're supposed to call me back same day. Call never came. In fact no one picks up the phone three days later. They keep pushing off to the virtual assistant (a bot) which is even worse The process is more than exhaustive Still need contacts and my insurance company already paid for exam. It's bad. read more

I was 10 minutes late for the first time in over ten years and they refused to take my children. I am sorry but this is NOT the way to run a business. They brag about being the cheapest but I'd rather pay extra for better service. Oh, and this appointment was actually rescheduled by them, after moving my original appointment because apparently the doctor was not available that day and we needed to do a virtual visit, which would have meant us waiting for over four hours at the store. Never using Visionworks ever again, some opticians were actually nice throughout the years, but as any big corporation, money is only what matters. I would have given zero stars if this was allowed. I had a very unpleasant experience. I was called an hour before my appointment that it had to be rescheduled. I requested an inperson appointment and when the rescheduled appointment called to confirm it was a telehealth appointment. I finally go make it to my appointment which I arrived early for only to have several people be seen before me. After waiting for over a half hour and several patients later I go up to say something. They were very rude and explained that everyone that was taken back was for inperson appointments. So that means that the telehealth appointments were taking well over 30-40 minutes. I immediately canceled my appointment and they asked if I wanted to reschedule. I would absolutely not go back. Made an appointment with Smithtown Optical right after I walked out, they were much nicer. read more

Davis Visionworks did write to me about my last review, but gave me absolutely no contact information, so one could be of the opinion that they really do not care about the poor performance of their employees. I did go there again, and received a new pair of glasses due to the one year replacement policy. The pair that I received was not properly assembled, the lenses were not properly secured, so I had to go back and have them properly placed. Let's start by stating the good. The new location in Smithtown is Gorgeous and Spacious. You walk in and the people are kind, pleasent, and happy. There is no hard sell when your there at all as they are now owned by VSP the insurance company. The people who work for your eye appointment and take you back to the machines and give you the pre work are informative, nice, and explain everything. Even if something isn't covered. And then you go to the room to get your exam done. Guess what no doctors. It's all remote. Including "do you see better here or here, read this line and this line" all while that nice rep is in the room. Now I can be ok with that. I mean it's post COVID and the workforce hasn't come back the same and the surge must be high for eye exams I get it. But here is where it gets fun. I'm with my special needs son and we wait over an hour to see the remote Dr who is going to flash up on the screen and say "why are you hear". Really why am I hear. What do you think I came for a bagel and cream cheese lol. I state I need a script renewal and I don't usually wear glasses and if you can do sunglasses too I appreciate it. Doesn't look at me says all looks normal and we will take care of it. Thanks bye. About 45 seconds tops. Next thing you know I'm handed and envelope w script and out the door. Now remember all the people at store level great. What happens when they wrote progressive lenses and you try to fill script online. Well I hope you don't want to get a hold of them. Ooh no. Call the number and you go into a cue of a virtual receptionist. And then it yea it tells you to visit visionworks.com for a live chat to help w your needs. They forget to inform you that chat is a BOT that just gives you the store location. Back to the rat wheel you go all while now your eyes hurt from the screen time and you need a stronger script for you eyes then ever before. Have been a customer of Visionworks DavisVision every year for more than 25 years. We get an eye exam and new glasses. Frequently used the Hauppauge location on Rt111 now located in the town of Smithtown. My visit today was made by telephone appointment and specifically for a situation where my husband felt that something was in his eye which he could not get out. When we arrived at 10AM there was not a sole in the store. The staff went out of their way NOT to help us. First, we were told to go to the emergency room, then we were told there would be a $75.00 charge because we were not due for an annual exam till December 1st. We agreed to pay the $75.00 and then it went to $150.00 and told that we really needed to go to an Eye Doctor. In the past, we have been told to come back if we experienced "floaters" which is what we thought this problem was. The Doctor would not even check out my husband's eye even when we agreed to pay their fee. The staff is rude and i thought the same thing the last time I was there and the only thing that has changed is the store location. I will not return to Smithtown. EVER..... read more

Michelle and Bob were very respectful and professional. I gave 3 stars because it took a while (4 PM appointment, approx. 25 min delay, left at 5:30 PM). Also they didn't have contacts in the store. This is truly the worst, most unprofessional place I've ever been to in my entire life. Not only do they claim that they didn't have my appointment and it was scheduled for NEXT year, but I did not see a physical person for my exam. A remote technician and doctor which was NEVER mentioned to me. My insurance has full coverage for vision and yet I see a remote doctor without being told until I'm sitting in the chair? I will NEVER come here again. I'd rather pay for vision out of pocket then come here and waste my time. They don't even treat you like a patient. read more

We've seen the staff change over the 15 years that my family has been getting our glasses here. They've always been competent and accurate but the last year or so the place has a much better vibe. I made an appointment for my daughters eye exam. I was called told the evening doctor called out and to come in early to see the afternoon doctor. I took my daughter out of her practice early and ran there. I checked in. I and waited over an hour. I went out to the counter to see what happened... I was told I was going to be next. Waited about a half hour more and then was told I wasn't going to be seen and I was never going to be. I was obviously upset but made another appointment for a week later. Came in for my 4:40 appointment and was told "your appointment was at 4:20" nope it wasn't. I told them the situation that happened last time, hoping they would try and help. All they said is "you can wait and if someone doesn't show up you can take that appointment". I was sick of waiting and was very disappointed for my daughter. Terrible customer service. read more

I went in their at vision works for the first time since moving from the hauppauge. They had issues with my benefits and accessing them. I asked them to speak with my insurance. I arrived and figured out the issues. However they were rude when I arrived, acted completely smug and condescending. Honestly way too rude for what my insurance is paying and after charging me the copay for my exams. I will never be back. Do better. read more

Smithtown location has THE ABSOLUTE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE, and I work in customer service so I'm quite familiar with the many aspects of it. Sadly the employers there aren't much better either. You can NEVER get through to the store, the online chat is useless and generic with no follow through either. After having to go there twice because I couldn't reach the store via phone the manager looked me in the face and promised me he would call me himself with an actual phone call which I never received....I've been dealing with this place for over 6 months to get two pair of readers, not that difficult, ending up with two pair of glasses that I hate...corporate says they're going to get in touch and they never do either....I would never go there again or ever recommend them to anyone! read more

I cannot even give a rating because I am still shaking. I'm incredulous about how employees can treat customers. I just hung up with YVONNE, the beyond rude, condescending, disgusting, and nasty thing who works at VisionWorks in Hauppauge. She needs an education in sensitivity training and perhaps an education period. Putting people like that in positions to deal with the public is a huge mistake. This is a place where I could not get a live person on the phone after multiple attempts and waiting on hold. I finally caved and made an appointment via the website over one month ago. Today I decided to drive by at 9:05 am to confirm the time for tomorrow and the door said they opened at 10:00 am. I went home and waited until that time to call. I waited for 29 minutes before . I found out from the switchboard that there was no appointment scheduled. My experience up until today was bad but then I was then transferred to YVONNE. I will make sure that every person I come in contact with knows this story and knows to avoid this despicable establishment and the people who work there. read more

I was going away and my frame broke that I had bought from another optical place a little over a year ago. My lenses are expensive since I have hi index and progressive lenses. Bob, the manager, Josie and Tim were amazing. Josie found another frame to fit my lenses and it was covered by my insurance. The best part was I had a solution to go on my trip within minutes. I highly recommend them for their professionalism and great service. Can't wait to visit the new location in Smithtown! read more

I was trying to get through for days and got the run around and disconnected each time. I finally had enough and made contact via their online chat and told them if someone does not contact me within 24 hours I would hit social media with the worst review possible. They told me someone would be contacting me within 48 hours. 48 hours later and guess what? Here I am. They obviously don't care about their reputation. I will be taking my business elsewhere. Well, My business with this company is finished. The complaints voiced by myself and others were specific and detailed. The reply should have been! "We screwed up, we're sorry, and we've taken the following steps to correct the problem." I am not going to spend any more time educating their management. I have tried calling them and talking to someone there about making/ changing an appointment but nobody ever answers. I have no idea how they can stay in business. Also there live chat on their website is not live. It's automated and useless We will go there no more. Will find another Visioncare provider that wants new customers/patients and cares about staying in business. Just a follow up- Visionworks customer care asked for additional information and my phone number so they can look into this matter further. It's almost a week after I gave them them all the information they asked for. I have tried calling again since last week with still be on hold forever. I decided to take a ride to the actual Visionworks location in a Hauppauge. They were open. When I asked if the phone number was correct I was told it was. When I informed the gentleman at the front desk why no one answers the phone - he replied that we are understaffed as other workers were furloughed. The manager is a low class p.o.s. he embarrassed the he'll out of me in a room full of customers, when he came out and yelled infront of everyone that I owed a 35 dollar fee upfront for a retinal photo, I explained to him that had I have known about that I'd have pushed my appointment up to Friday when I got paid and told him thank you for embarrassing me in front of all these people and his response was you can't get 35 dollars from someone else, than you embarrassed yourself. I would never treat a customer as poorly as he had done to me, I'd think twice before going anywhere near this place. I know myself and my family n friends will not EVER use this place. I have been using Visionworks for many many years and once again they have exceeded my expectations! I have NOTHING negative to say, and cant understand all of the negative reviews. The first technician was very kind and thorough. The Dr exam was also very thorough and she explained my current prescription vs my new prescription, (my last prescription was re-made 2 times because of astigmatism that I have, and I was not comfortable with that in my lenses), they did not hesitate to re-make anything and when all was finished I loved my new glasses. The sales woman today was also very helpful picking frames that suited my face and offering me the best options including lens color to best match my new frames. I recommend this location without any hesitation. I can't wait to get my new glasses! read more

I have been going to the Hauppague office for years and sadly no more. I called to find out about getting a duplicate pair of Maui Jim glasses but not sunglasses. Kerry Ann was incredibly rude and unprofessional and then put Maria on who was equally nasty and rude. I don't understand businesses where the front office people can be so incredibly entitled that they can drive away business. I usually spend 600-800$ in addition to my insurance coverage!!I would discourage anyone from going there. What's sad is that the doctor and optician Bob were incredibly nice but you have to get thru the terrible front desk people in order to have a nice experience!! To add insult to injury when I called corporate to complain Tomas checked my insurance before taking my complaint!! Talk about deplorable!!! read more

The Hauppauge Location has THE WORST customer service I have ever witnessed. The frame on my glasses came apart so I was hoping for either a repair or since my frames were still under warranty maybe even a replacement. I went to this particular location because it is closer to my home but that was a big mistake. The woman at the front desk informed me that they can't do anything about my frames because I got my glasses at a different location ( because I couldn't get an appointment in Hauppauge for over a month but another store got me in a few days). So with that information I called the store where I originally got my glasses and told them what Hauppauge told me. The other store was shocked by what was said and told me that I was given the wrong information and they told me to go back in the Hauppauge store. So after all of that, My frame was no longer available and I had to pick a new frame which was sent to the Hauppauge store. So today the day before Thanksgiving I went to the Hauppauge store where I got the new frame and with that I thanked the person helping me but let her know that it was a amazing that I was able to get this all done at a store that initially told me that they couldn't help me because the stores don't work in a way where you can go to any Visionworks to get your frames fixed or replaced, I then pointed out to the staff member who told me that on my initial visit and she just laughed at me. No apology, just a laugh and a nasty tone to her voice when she said Happy Thanksgiving. I have called corporate and made a complaint, I was told they would have a manager call in 24 to 48 hours to discuss the situation. I'm not sure if I will get a response at all. read more

She started the conversation by lying, claiming someone had called me to ask about it the week before, no one ever contacted me. Then when asking her about my insurance she was very nasty and clearly didn't want to help. Kept saying I can call my insurance company and find out if they accept it. What!? That doesn't make any sense. Visionworks should be able to tell me if they accept it or not. I have a very common, accepted at most places insurance. The conversation should have been short and simple. She said she would find out if they accepted it and call me back. Of course she never did. I canceled the appointment, called eye doctor and made an appointment with zero issues. Stay clear of this place. There are plenty of other businesses with employees that know how to do their job. I have been a long-standing loyal customer for 20+ years at this location. Unfortunately my family and I will not be returning. It's very sad and disappointing what has happened at Visionworks. We are all learning to adapt to changes due to COVID pandemic but this company does not care about their employees. The once super-friendly and helpful staff no longer exists. Visionworks management has cut the staff back to absolute bare minimum and employees that are working there are overworked and unhappy. I feel bad for them. It took six weeks to get an appointment for an eye exam by booking on the website. When you arrive for your long-awaited appointment, they ask you if you filled out the paperwork you were supposed to fill prior to your appointment, and then when you say no they are annoyed that they have to print it out and give it to you. Meanwhile, there has been no communication that there was any paperwork to be filled prior to the appointment. I sat there waiting and the four customers after me were also asked if they filled the paperwork online, and everyone had the same response - that they were never informed of any paperwork. They haven't been answering their phones there for months! Upon arrival, they have a handwritten sign on the front counter that says "we are aware of the phone problem". When I asked them why they haven't answered their phones for the last several months, the employee said this company is horrible and they furloughed all the employees and they have no time to answer phones. They said there's nothing wrong with the phones they just don't answer them. In the six weeks I waited for my appointment they never bothered to tell me that my insurance was not yet eligible. They conveniently let me get my eye exam and then told me after the fact that it was not covered. They charged me for it. I wouldn't have had the exam if I knew It wasn't covered. Shame on you Visionworks!! You were always overpriced but it was convenient and friendly place to do business but not anymore! You should treat your employees better so they can treat your customers better!! read more

I was given a price for glasses with insurance and without. I told the clerk who helped me that i didn't want to go through my insurance. When I bought my glasses I was told that they had a promotion for an eye exam for 19$. I said that would be fine. As it turns out ,they submitted a charge without me knowing to my insurance company for 50$. I not only didn't want to go through the insurance but they then charged me 2 1/2 times their promotional rate of 19$. I asked the clerk for an additional discount and they gave it to me, but not really. Once I got the explanation of benefits from my insurance company, I called them immediately to ask . I spoke to the manager"bob" who doesn't know enough to open a paper bag never mind customer service. I would strongly recommend not dealing with them as they "double dip" anywhere they can. read more
