I was at Riverhead Visionworks earlier today and the gentleman who waited on me gave me excellent service. However, when I arrived home 2 hours later, the glasses I had repaired at Visionworks just 2 hours later were missing. I'm going crazy trying to find them. Everywhere I was after Visionworks did not find my glasses. So finally I called Visionworks to see if they dropped from my purse in their store or outside the store. I was on hold 1/2 hour and no one picked up. If there was only one man at Visionworks to take care of the phone, the front desk and customers, shame on Visionworks! Poor management! So I've been here several times. I have avoided writing a review because I was so dissatisfied last July when I was there. The virtual meeting with the optometrist reported results to me that were so concerning I went to go see my ophthalmologist, and he assured me what I was told was 100% false. Stay away from this place! My wife and I have been regulars at Visionworks Riverhead for the last 5 years or so... It had become our go-to place for any eye related matter. Their personnel used to be very attentive to customer needs, both at the front desks as well as in the back. Unfortunately, not anymore!! For this year annual check-up, we completed all required forms and medical insurance info ahead of our appointment. Showed up in time for our visit, and the person at the desk was not able to validate online our coverage info. She also recognized they were struggling with a new system. We mentioned that in the past whenever that happened a simple call fro the store to our insurer had been sufficient. They responded outload, almost screaming, that they were not supposed to call up our insurance. All in all, we left the store without our checkups and extremely frustrated. We were able to book our checkups somewhere else right away... By the way, this new place was able to validate our information on the spot without any issues. My wife went in to get tested for her vison and receive an updated prescription for her glasses. The person behind the desk said we were in network but charged us full price for lenses and frames, when I had called to clarify I was told to reach out to my insurer for clarification as it must be a clerical error on their end. Upon speaking with my insurer this Visionworks is not covered at all by my insurer. I will be returning the script and going elsewhere. read more

Sooo late. Had absolutely no regard for our appointment. I had an ADHD 8 year old with me who had to wait in the car for 45 minutes and then not even a simple "were sorry we are running behind." The eye doctor was friendly & good with kids. The other people who worked in the front were the most eclectic group ranging from people in lab coats to a man wearing a wrinkled see l-through white t-shirt (casual Tuesday maybe?) Overall the dr was good, the place was clean, they didn't have too many selections for children, and they aren't exactly clear of what your coverage is until after you choose your frames : / So ask specific questions BEFORE you start looking (especially if are kid glasses shopping!) read more

The doctor was patient and thorough, and the ladies up front were very helpful explaining my coverage and helping me decide on my glasses as I was torn between two pairs. I am extremely disappointed in Visionworks. I have had very poor vision my whole life, and have spent hundred and hundreds of dollars on glasses in the past and was hoping to go here where I could possibly save some money. I regretted it almost instantly and returned my glasses. The service was horrid! I was baffled at how I was spoken to while getting my lenses. I was helped by this young woman who had repeatedly asked me if these were my "first pair of glasses"... I have such a strong prescription that I couldn't help to laugh when I was asked that. I've been wearing glasses since I was a toddler. I had requested to purchase High Index lenses woth a UV protective coating, and an Anti Glare coating, she had explained that I "could" get them, but she asked if I wanted to try Polycarbonate lenses instead. I told her I've been wearing glasses forever and know a lot about lenses themselves and I would prefer to have a High Index lense put in considering that works best for my eyesight and my comfort in having them not look so "thick" when wearing them. She was being very rude and stubborn and telling me I shouldn't get them. When I asked why she was saying I shouldn't, she was quiet and didn't have a real answer for me. I told her if she weren't comfortable completing my requests, I will be happy to go somewhere else. She then said she can do what I ask. When I had chosen a frame (similar to my frames I have currently) she said I "couldn't get them" because the frame won't be right with my lenses. Again, when I had asked the reasoning, she was not able to come up with answers other than "your lenses are thick". She was telling me I should be wearing a round small frame instead. I never in my life have worn a round small frame, so I wasn't understanding why she was saying that to me. However, I was in a hurry, since I had been there for hours already, so I finished up with everything and placed my order. She reviewed it with me and confirmed she put in a High Index lense with the frames I had chosen. 2 weeks later, I was notified my glasses arrived. I went and picked them up and tried them on. I was floored woth how thick they were! These most definitely did not seem right to me, when I tried them on, the lense touched my entire face! I asked why they were at least 4x thicker than my previous pair and she had replied with "Well we went ahead with a Polycarbonate lense instead". I was not notified they made a change, I was not asked if that change was okay with me, and I was not given a price change after that. When I had asked why they changed my order there was no reason given, there was just "These worked well". Not only were they 4x thicker, they were extremely poorly done! I was so frustrated I asked to speak with the Manager to see if he can clarify for me more in depth. When he looked at my prescription and the glasses I was given, he had not much to say. I asked him why at another place I go to can fulfill what I ask for perfectly, and they can't, he had nothing to say. He told me "You have a strong prescription, you should probably just wear contacts instead". I couldn't help but laugh in amazement when I was told, with such poor vision, I should "just" wear contacts. That is so incorrect it's not even funny! In conclusion, this particular Visionworks was despicable in more ways than one. They made me feel that I knew more about glasses than they did, they spoke to me rudely, they were not able to answer any of my questions and they completely changed my order around without giving me the decency to ask permission first. I had to get a full refund and return them because they just would not work. I will most definitely not be trying Visionworks ever again, and I surely won't be recommending anyone to go here either. read more

My eye exam was over an hour to get a pair of trial contacts took another half hour. Then you have to wait to order your pair of glasses and contacts. All the while they take care of everyone else who walks through the door. (Which evidently is a lot of people) I don't understand why. Customer service was terrible and the Prices too high. I made an appointment for my daughter and myself I drove an hour during rush hour traffic and told them when I made the appointment that I may be a few minutes late because I was coming during rush hour traffic after a major snow storm the roads were icy I was 12 minute late and they canceled our appointment! I am sorry but that is wrong my daughter was a quick exam. The staff were rude and told me they didn't get paid enough to deal with me! The doctor was nice he wanted to see us but he said it was up to the manager it's a shame no customer service . I just got back home from picking up my 2 new pairs of glasses - a lineless bifocal and reading glasses, and I have to say I was pleased with the service, the quality and accuracy of the lenses Rx, the speed at which both arrived, and last but certainly not least, the awesome price for both pairs, in part because they happily accepted my not-so-great insurance, and in part because of their BOGO sale @50% off. read more

Horrible customer service I took my child there for glasses for only one pair and they charged me for a second pair of the same pair of glasses which made no sense and plus I wasn't even asked or told I was being charged for a second pair untill I caught it on the re·ceipt and when it was time to pick out frames nobody helped !! Customer service is amazing! Used this location in August and was so pleased with the exceptional service. From the comprehensive exam to the great service provided by the staff . Fast forward to January , I took a bad fall and broke my glasses. I arrived on a Sunday afternoon. Kyle was awesome. He verified what insurance would assist with and helped me select frames. My husband was so impressed that he made an appointment that day for the following week. My interaction with all staff members was good. Kyle however exceeds expectation. have been going to this location for about 7 years and every time i'm more disappointed but this time takes the cake. booked an appointment for 3:40, checked in at 3:30 and was not spoken to again until almost 5:00, i was also not informed that the doctor and tech would be doing the exam virtually which i did not mind until the doctor was incredibly rude and tried to tell me that i did not have a condition that is clearly in my chart and has been for the past 5 years. but it gets worse. after my appointment i placed 2 orders using both my insurance policies, the man at the front desk said they were ordered and would be delivered to my address, 3 weeks later they had still not arrived. I called the office 8 times throughout a week during hours they were open and not a single time did they answer the phone. I was connected to their national center who tried to reach out to them, they also did not get an answer, left 2 messages, none with an answer. finally i went to the office (i hadn't had time before as it is not close), and they had never placed my order. mind you it is 2 days before my coverage for the year ends so i would have had to spend money out of pocket if i had not gone to the office and finally speak to someone. i work in customer service, i get it's stressful and busy, but my order should have been placed when i was the only customer and there were 6 employees doing nothing. and mistakes happen but this easily could have been fixed over the phone if someone would answer it. i will never come back again read more

Be careful of the 'upsell' here. I did not let on that I had already gotten an estimate from another visionworks with the same prescription. I had been quoted $230. previously. Here I was told $360! When I asked about this discrepancy I was told that they were going to give me an upgraded lens. Apparently there were three levels of quality. I was not asked or consulted about which I would like. I was just told $360. If I hadn't gotten the other estimate I would never have known that I had a choice. I am a new senior citizen and maybe I am being overly sensitive but I can't help but wonder if there wasn't some 'she won't know the difference' going on here. I sent my son there because they were having a buy one get one free sale (BOGOfree). The only part that was true about the word "Sale" was that they were actually selling eyeglasses. He only needs single vision lenses so the lenses should have competitive pricing. He was getting the least expensive, basic frames which were $69.95 but according to their website were on Promo for $41.97. This was the first, non disclosure. He hadn't known about this promo and went there before I was able to tell him. When he picked out the frames, he was not told about the promo price and so he was charged the $69.95 price. Then he asked for the UV/Glare protection and the salesgirl showed him a card that showed lenses with the UV/Glare protection and without it. It turned out that she hadn't disclosed that there were three levels of UV/Glare shielding and she only showed him the highest priced one. I must add, in fairness, that he was getting Transition lenses which of course, are higher in price than plain, clear lenses. Now, here is the most deceiving part. When she tallied up the bill, each lens, ( R & L ) were priced separately at $185.00 each. This should be the price of a pair of Transition lenses if not lower. I have been purchasing eyeglasses for over 40 years and never once did I get a separate price for each lens. I've always been given the pair price. When she gave him a total, it amounted to over $900.00. This of course would be lower after subtracting the price for the free pair but it was still almost $500.00 for one pair. Remember, these were basic, $69 frames. After taking two steps back in disbelief, my son questioned the price and was told that he had the highest priced Anti-Glare level and was now told that there were also, one that was lower priced and one that was no charge. Remember, she didn't do this at first. He then chose the no charge which brought his price down to $439.95. This was still ridiculously high for basic frames and just transition lenses. Though he reluctantly made the purchase, after leaving the store he remember that 2 years ago he went to Cohen's optical about a mile away and purchased the glasses he has which are basic frames with transition lenses and it cost him $150.00. He called the Cohen's Optical and they confirmed the price and said they keep records for 7 years. With that, given that the one good thing Vision Works seems to offer is a 30 day money back guarantee, he called and cancel the entire order and told them he would be in to pick up his eye exam prescription which they charge $50 for. He told me, that while he was waiting for his exam, there was an elderly couple there buying eyeglasses for each of them and they too, both experienced price shock when they were told the price of both their glasses was well over $1000 dollars. Needless to say, my son is going back to Cohen's. I generally don't write reviews but I felt compelled to do so here as Vision Works seems to engage in deceptive practices and extreme over pricing. Please don't be fooled by a BOGO free sale by them as they make up the difference by over charging. My advice is to go to other optical stores and get price comparisons. I'm sure you will find that 2 pairs of eyeglasses at regular cost will be less than a BOGO free sale at Vision Works. And shame on you Vision Works for doing this especially to senior citizens. read more
