Free parking and boarding the train was so close. To take Amtrak to SF, the train stop is Emeryville, where you board an Amtrak bus that takes you into SF. There were additional stops at Fairfield, Martinez, Richmond and Berkeley before arriving in Emeryville. Be sure to hurry boarding the bus though, because there's not much time between arriving and departure. The total trip was 2 hours. I really liked being able to relax on the ride instead of dealing with the traffic.

This Train Stop is also known as the Davis Amtrak Station and is officially called the Southern…read morePacific (or SP) Depot. The current Station was constructed in 1913 and is a historic landmark. The Station is located downtown at 840 2nd Street and also features the Davis Tower and the A.G. Brinley Plaza, named for a former Station agent. The Station, parking lot and tower are in the middle of the Davis wye of train tracks connecting to the north. I always look forward to seeing the distinctive architecture of this Station while traveling through on either the California Zephyr, the Coast Starlight, or one of the Capital Trains. It's also a destination location for a short train ride, a walk around Davis, and then the return trip home.

When I was commuting to San Francisco for school a few years ago, I'd drive the 15-min. to Davis,…read morefrom West Sac, because the parking is free with purchase of an Amtrak ticket. Free parking is something you won't find at the Sacramento station. The guy that's usually behind the ticket counter is a very friendly man. Another plus is that the tracks are located right outside the depot doors. No need to weave through parked and moving cars just to get to the platforms. And when you return after a stressful day in The City, you can jump off the train, climb into your car and hop onto I-80 for a lovely jaunt back home in 15-min.

If you commute from Davis to the Bay Area, I definitely recommend using Amtrak's Capital Corridor…read moreover driving. It is far less stressful, and, with a monthly pass, much cheaper. The trains are clean, and the conductors friendly, and it usually goes off without a hitch. Occasionally, there are delays (such as when the Benicia Bridge is up to allow maritime traffic to pass, or infrequent mishaps). When they do occur, communication could be better, but that would be my only complaint. You can bring your bike or scooter aboard (most cars have three spaces, plus there is one that holds 13. In the early morning, the bike/luggage car is also the quiet car, and usually kept dark as well. In the afternoon, if you do not need to go past Sacramento, avoid #538, as it gets very full (often no bike racks or seats are open). The #536 and #540 have plenty of room and run within half an hour. As for the actual station, it's too bad that there is a fair amount of trash and vandalism, because it's a cute historic building. Staff are wonderful. One of them was very helpful when there was a cancelled train, I was able to get onto a Starliner with existing ticket.

Never the less I would definitely recommend if you need some relaxation (after commuter times) I took the train from Hayward to Sscramento.

How convenient! All of the Unitrans drivers I have had the pleasure of interacting with have been helpful, friendly, and offered a comfortable ride! Keep in mind these drivers are students who are drowning in midterms, extracurricular, internships, and 15+ hours of work per week to get you where you want to go. Show your drivers some kindness and appreciation! Unitrans drivers are the most considerate transit drivers I've ever seen! If they see you running for the bus, they will wait for you, and they will do whatever they can to get you home as quickly and comfortably as possible! DOUBLE DECKER BUSSES: Unitrans offers a unique experience of getting to ride a vintage double decker RT imported from London, England in the 60s! This is truly a unique experience as these buses don't even run in London anymore! Check out the top deck! It's pretty cool!

Reason to why I give them a 2 stars is because of their lack of communication between driver and person attending the bus. I take the bus P almost every morning and the bus driver never greets me, I've seen them roll their eyes, some say "okay" or nod their head. Before COVID the bus drivers were super excited to be the drivers and their communication was on point. Also, some Sac City Student cards are "not valid" which online they are valid. Please update this on every bus line. Please teach your staff to be more active and friendly!

The Davis-Berkeley shuttle is super convenient for students who want to go back home to the Bay…read moreArea. It costs $9.75 one way and gets you from the UC Berkeley campus to the UC Davis campus is about 1 hour and 15 minutes (that's how it's been in my experience). For me, I also have to add on BART fair, so it can cost at least $25 roundtrip using the shuttle+BART. I could get picked up, but it's easier on my family to have me commute, plus it's cheaper than taking Amtrak to Richmond then BART. At Davis you'll dropped off behind Shields Library so it's a short walk from the Silo and MU bus stations. At Berkeley, just walk up a few blocks on Shattuck and turn right on Addison or University Ave and that's where the pick up/drop off area is (Crescent Springer Gateway). In short, I really like this service. It's only available on the weekdays and spaces go fast during the holidays and Fridays/Mondays, so plan ahead.
