    This is nice!

Amtrak is wonderful! At least the Amtrak world I live in :-). In the quaint town of Davis, University town, Amtrak is a big deal for the students and business people who commute back and forth to the Bay Area and sometimes beyond in both directions. For the leisurely traveller who does not want to put up with the crowded I-80 corridor to San Francisco, Berkeley, San Jose, etc., it is a godsend. Friday morning arriving at the Amtrak train station at 12:15.... plenty of parking. Out of my car, in the station and on the train by 12:25. Is that unbelievable or what? Sitting in the observation deck watching the world go by. In the blink of an eye, I am in Emeryville where we change from the Train to an Amtrak bus. Delightful bus driver helping everyone with their luggage but even more important to me an extremely clean environment inside the bus. It almost looks brand new. Before I know it, and just 10 minutes later, we are crossing the beautiful San Francisco Bay Bridge with scenic sites galore. Cruising over that bridge with someone else driving is such an indulgence. Watching the City of San Francisco, with its beautiful tall buildings and landmarks that I know so well, coming into site is remarkable. Here I am on the Bay Bridge looking over at San Francisco seeing Alcatraz Island, Coit Tower and even the Golden Gate Bridge on the other side of San Francisco connecting Marin County with the City. Really quite astounding. 10 more minutes and we are pulling up into the train station and deboarding. This is the only way to "fly".....:).

Nice station. Very friendly station agent, he answered questions to passengers pleasantly. Parking lot fills up early but we found one on a Friday morning trip to Reno on the Zephyr. Alternate paid parking a short block away.

The Davisville Southern Pacific Station - I mean Davis Amtrak Station - is part history and part modern commuter. The station is located in downtown Davis, obviously near the railroad, and is a major portal to access or leave the area. The station is served by Amtrak for the Capitol Corridor and California Zephyr with connecting bus service to the San Joaquin train. The station has a large uncovered platform which is probably a big issue when it is cold and rainy or just plain hot. The original buildings are still in use, although you can get coffee and other snacks at nearby businesses or on the train. Apparently parking is free which is weird, but probably hard to find. Best of all, it is only 15 minutes to downtown Sacramento - even during rush hour!

We were going to SF Int'L airport from Davis, so we took Amtak from Davis to Richmond transit to Bart last Sunday. We took the second train on Sunday which was #727 - 7:55pm. The train was cool and along with beautiful scence and wonderful weather, I took some pictures. I had an enjoyable starting in the trip. =) From Davis to Richmond is 20 dollars, you can take your bicycle with you and enjoy all the adventure to all the places they passing through.

5 stars for easy access from the campus. At first I thought it would take maybe 30min to bike there.. got there in 5. Word of caution: you go through downtown to get there, so watch out for crazy drivers especially during the afternoon rush.

View of the Bay from the train! Stunning!

Big fan of this form of public transportation!!! The ride from Davis to the Bay Area is beautiful! They have a food cart on the train for snacks, tables to do work on, and great wifi! Tip: you can bring your own beer or wine on the train, making it really fun to travel with friends or meeting new ones!

If you commute from Davis to the Bay Area, I definitely recommend using Amtrak's Capital Corridor…read moreover driving. It is far less stressful, and, with a monthly pass, much cheaper. The trains are clean, and the conductors friendly, and it usually goes off without a hitch. Occasionally, there are delays (such as when the Benicia Bridge is up to allow maritime traffic to pass, or infrequent mishaps). When they do occur, communication could be better, but that would be my only complaint. You can bring your bike or scooter aboard (most cars have three spaces, plus there is one that holds 13. In the early morning, the bike/luggage car is also the quiet car, and usually kept dark as well. In the afternoon, if you do not need to go past Sacramento, avoid #538, as it gets very full (often no bike racks or seats are open). The #536 and #540 have plenty of room and run within half an hour. As for the actual station, it's too bad that there is a fair amount of trash and vandalism, because it's a cute historic building. Staff are wonderful. One of them was very helpful when there was a cancelled train, I was able to get onto a Starliner with existing ticket.

This was my grandchildrens 1st train ride, too bad there was nothing available to remember it. Asked the conductor and others but they had nothing. Never the less I would definitely recommend if you need some relaxation (after commuter times) I took the train from Hayward to Sscramento.

I noticed not that many times to choose from going to Davis from Sacramento. We missed the 2 pm. We had to wait almost an hour and half until the next one. We bought our tickets then realized no one told us where we actually get onto the train. Our friend went back in..at the ticket booth the man that helped us was very nice and very helpful. He gave the kids coloring books and pins. Finally on the train it was bumper then I remembered, moved around a lot reminded me being on boat. Can not have bags or luggage out on tables or seats. I think we got called out, but we weren't sure since it was over the load speaker. We had a small bag it had food and snacks in it. We put into the over head. We went to check out the food car. So the kids could feel what it was like to walk from car to car..the food car was mostly over priced snacks. Canned, bottled drinks and packs of chips or nuts. When we arrived in Davis. They said over the loud speaker they do not stop for to long you need to get off so get ready. We couldn't open the over head to get our bag back out. It was stuck. Other passengers helped us open it, they said you really need to pull it hard. Once off the train the Davis train station and building looked so old and run down..so sad looking compared to Sacramento station. We didn't know no one would be there to buy return tickets. But they do offer more times leaving back to Sacramento. We purchased online. We had many people asking if they were in the right place while we were waiting. Davis such a cute town seems like they would clean up the station areas.

When checking in, the ladies at the counter were chatting it up while there was a line of people. Once on the train (booked lower level seats for my elderly mother and I), come to find out there were no seats available in the lower level although we paid for that seating. The people that assist on the train couldn't do enough for you, really amazing people. They checked everyone's ticket on lower level and appeared everyone had lower level seating. I called Amtrak to make a complaint and was sent to customer relations. I spoke to Kara; she stated she checked the schedule and there was absolutely no way that could've been oversold because there were open seats. I told her they had everyone on specific train cars based on the area they were going to, and was told there were no other seats on other cars as it was a holiday weekend and full. I asked her if there was any way to be compensated and she said no there was nothing she could do but send a message to corporate; no idea if she'll really do it. ‍ There was another gentleman behind me with a son that had congestive heart failure, who also purchased lower level seats, and they also had to go up to the upper level, it was a seating DISASTER!!! The icing on the cake was there are no restrooms on the upper level of the train. So when my elderly mother had to use the restroom, she had to go up and down the stairs in that tight stairwell while the train was in motion; completely unsafe and dangerous for an 89yr-old lady. So save yourself the time as it's five hours by train from Sacramento to Reno; just drive, not worth taking Amtrak. It was a terrible experience for my elderly mother and myself!!

In my opinion, this is one of the prettiest stations in the whole light rail system…read more To be fair, I've only been to Franklin station two or three times, but have had good experiences so far. On a recent evening, just before sunset, I found myself at 16th Street Station with a day pass and some time to kill. So, I decided to watch the sunset from the blue line. (For those who do not know, 16th Street is considered the major intersection between the blue line and the gold line, since both lines run through that station.) When it comes to the blue line, I basically still consider myself a tourist. Even though I ride the gold line all the time, I've only stepped on the blue line a handful of times. On this occasion, I rode the blue line from 16th Street to Franklin Station and back, which allowed me to see the sunset over Sacramento from both directions. It was actually a really beautiful view. It made me think about how some of the views from the gold line are pretty interesting, too, but I'm just too used to them to notice anymore. It's funny how we can start to take beautiful things for granted as soon as they feel familiar. Franklin Station itself seemed very clean. Other than two other people waiting to return on the same train, it was empty. This might have something to do with the criminal activity other reviewers have mentioned, but I was fortunate enough to not experience any. I also didn't notice a security guard, but it's possible that they were roaming around the (very large) parking lot. It's possible that I just missed them, since I was only there for a minute. (I have personally not had any issues with blue line trains running late, although I could write a book on all my issues with the gold line.) Immediately upon arriving to the station, the rider is struck with the visual of a large copper arch-- a work of art called "Esperanza," created by a group of artists led by David Best. Upon doing a little research, I learned that Esperanza is one of many temple-like, artistic structures built around the world by a group of artists who call themselves The Temple Crew. More information on these temples can be found at thetemplecrew.org According to the website: ""Esperanza" was created to serve as a beacon, welcoming the hard working, diverse community of south Sacramento. Though reminiscent of a temple, the arch is not intended to reference a particular culture or religion, but invites individual interpretation. The intricately cut steel temple-like structure evokes the feeling of a sacred and safe place, a metaphor for the importance of public transportation that serves this community. A text component, including such phrases as "I see you have a family to take care of" and "I see you searching for a better life" speaks volumes to this community. At its most elemental level, "Esperanza" serves as an inviting entrance to the station and community landmark." Overall, it's a nice-looking station, especially at sunset.
