I noticed not that many times to choose from going to Davis from Sacramento. We missed the 2 pm. We had to wait almost an hour and half until the next one. We bought our tickets then realized no one told us where we actually get onto the train. Our friend went back in..at the ticket booth the man that helped us was very nice and very helpful. He gave the kids coloring books and pins. Finally on the train it was bumper then I remembered, moved around a lot reminded me being on boat. Can not have bags or luggage out on tables or seats. I think we got called out, but we weren't sure since it was over the load speaker. We had a small bag it had food and snacks in it. We put into the over head. We went to check out the food car. So the kids could feel what it was like to walk from car to car..the food car was mostly over priced snacks. Canned, bottled drinks and packs of chips or nuts. When we arrived in Davis. They said over the loud speaker they do not stop for to long you need to get off so get ready. We couldn't open the over head to get our bag back out. It was stuck. Other passengers helped us open it, they said you really need to pull it hard. Once off the train the Davis train station and building looked so old and run down..so sad looking compared to Sacramento station. We didn't know no one would be there to buy return tickets. But they do offer more times leaving back to Sacramento. We purchased online. We had many people asking if they were in the right place while we were waiting. Davis such a cute town seems like they would clean up the station areas.

When checking in, the ladies at the counter were chatting it up while there was a line of people. Once on the train (booked lower level seats for my elderly mother and I), come to find out there were no seats available in the lower level although we paid for that seating. The people that assist on the train couldn't do enough for you, really amazing people. They checked everyone's ticket on lower level and appeared everyone had lower level seating. I called Amtrak to make a complaint and was sent to customer relations. I spoke to Kara; she stated she checked the schedule and there was absolutely no way that could've been oversold because there were open seats. I told her they had everyone on specific train cars based on the area they were going to, and was told there were no other seats on other cars as it was a holiday weekend and full. I asked her if there was any way to be compensated and she said no there was nothing she could do but send a message to corporate; no idea if she'll really do it. ‍ There was another gentleman behind me with a son that had congestive heart failure, who also purchased lower level seats, and they also had to go up to the upper level, it was a seating DISASTER!!! The icing on the cake was there are no restrooms on the upper level of the train. So when my elderly mother had to use the restroom, she had to go up and down the stairs in that tight stairwell while the train was in motion; completely unsafe and dangerous for an 89yr-old lady. So save yourself the time as it's five hours by train from Sacramento to Reno; just drive, not worth taking Amtrak. It was a terrible experience for my elderly mother and myself!!

In my opinion, this is one of the prettiest stations in the whole light rail system…read more To be fair, I've only been to Franklin station two or three times, but have had good experiences so far. On a recent evening, just before sunset, I found myself at 16th Street Station with a day pass and some time to kill. So, I decided to watch the sunset from the blue line. (For those who do not know, 16th Street is considered the major intersection between the blue line and the gold line, since both lines run through that station.) When it comes to the blue line, I basically still consider myself a tourist. Even though I ride the gold line all the time, I've only stepped on the blue line a handful of times. On this occasion, I rode the blue line from 16th Street to Franklin Station and back, which allowed me to see the sunset over Sacramento from both directions. It was actually a really beautiful view. It made me think about how some of the views from the gold line are pretty interesting, too, but I'm just too used to them to notice anymore. It's funny how we can start to take beautiful things for granted as soon as they feel familiar. Franklin Station itself seemed very clean. Other than two other people waiting to return on the same train, it was empty. This might have something to do with the criminal activity other reviewers have mentioned, but I was fortunate enough to not experience any. I also didn't notice a security guard, but it's possible that they were roaming around the (very large) parking lot. It's possible that I just missed them, since I was only there for a minute. (I have personally not had any issues with blue line trains running late, although I could write a book on all my issues with the gold line.) Immediately upon arriving to the station, the rider is struck with the visual of a large copper arch-- a work of art called "Esperanza," created by a group of artists led by David Best. Upon doing a little research, I learned that Esperanza is one of many temple-like, artistic structures built around the world by a group of artists who call themselves The Temple Crew. More information on these temples can be found at thetemplecrew.org According to the website: ""Esperanza" was created to serve as a beacon, welcoming the hard working, diverse community of south Sacramento. Though reminiscent of a temple, the arch is not intended to reference a particular culture or religion, but invites individual interpretation. The intricately cut steel temple-like structure evokes the feeling of a sacred and safe place, a metaphor for the importance of public transportation that serves this community. A text component, including such phrases as "I see you have a family to take care of" and "I see you searching for a better life" speaks volumes to this community. At its most elemental level, "Esperanza" serves as an inviting entrance to the station and community landmark." Overall, it's a nice-looking station, especially at sunset.

The SACRT light rail conveniently provides Elk Grove commuters with an economical, and "green" option to get downtown. With that said, here are a few other noteworthy reasons to use the Franklin SACRT light rail: 1. There are plenty of parking spaces & the parking lot is extremely safe as there are cameras everywhere & it's patrolled by SacPD. (I've personally observed at Sac PD SUV in the parking lot when I drive by in the AM and PM.) 2. There are bicycle lockers at this rail station, which are also monitored by camera and Sac PD 3. You'll save money on gas as well as wear and tear on your car. 4. And for those who commute, you will not be sitting in traffic on the 5FWY dumping emissions into the atmosphere. Be adventurous and check out this beautiful light rail station. Afterall, should you decide to start commute by using sac light rail at this beautiful station, you might possibly arrive to work less anxious and stressed from downtown gridlock. You

Station: Well, here's the station (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/florin-light-rail-station-sacramento?select=ODTY-qAQCm17IMdODyAx2g#ODTY-qAQCm17IMdODyAx2g). Looks nice, right? Wrong. Ugh. Seriously, do they ever clean this place? It's covered with spit, discarded cigarettes, and random fast food wrappers. With the exception of the spit, I can't really blame any of the patrons for the mess because the trash cans here have these weird lids that prevent you from depositing anything without snaking your entire hand deep into the can like you're playing some sick real life game of Operation. it's so hard to throw stuff away without touching the grimy trash can! You can tell that they tried to make this place look decent. The pillars feature acorn decorations (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/florin-light-rail-station-sacramento?select=ODTY-qAQCm17IMdODyAx2g#bMdNinfus-S2VKcPiYTybA), but even these are marred by graffiti and grime. They have a couple of benches where you can sit and wait, but they're also far from pristine. Perhaps the most annoying thing about this station (and the RT light rail in general) is the fact that you cannot use a twenty to buy a ticket. Yes, that's right. None of the machines accept a bill larger than a ten and there ARE NO CHANGE MACHINES. If you are lucky enough to have a five or ten on hand, you'll get your change in the form of dollar coins, which is actually kinda neat, but super annoying if you don't like carrying around coins. Also, to add fuel to the fire, they alway seem to run out of change at the ticket machine closest to the parking lot. Good thing there is another one in the island between the two tracks. Unless you are a student in high school or at Sac State, you cannot get the student pass. Your best bet is to get the $100 monthly pass through the mail and avoid all of this. Parking: Despite the fact that hardly anyone uses the parking lot, it still costs a dollar a day to park here. How does that make any sense?! It's almost like they don't want people to use this station. Anyway, you have to get the number of your parking space and then pay at using the machines at the platform. You can avoid this by buying a $15 monthly parking pass from the RT website. They don't have any guards here, especially at night. I never really feel safe leaving my car here, because even on a busy day, there are usually only ten or so cars parked here. If I return later than 5 PM, I'm usually the only one still parked. Even sadder is the fact that only the Meadowview and Florin stations have a park and ride. If you need this service anywhere else on the blue line, you are SOL. Synopsis: Sacramento has, by far, THE WORST public transit system I have ever used. I would give it one star, but I need to get to work without paying $18 a day for parking. I would take the bus instead of doing the park and ride, but the bus only comes by at ridiculous times.

Officers Devoted To Harassing You…read more SITREP Whether on the Light Trains or at the Light Rail Stations, you can count on the Sacramento Regional Transit (www.SacRT.com) officer corps to harass you and shake you down for their ticket quota. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/sacrt-light-rail-watt-manlove-station-sacramento?select=33JOigg_u46sPxIPShFrQA THE SETUP It's no secret that SacRT - the Sacramento Valley regional transit community in general - is not a community that believes in investing in a mass transit plan to alleviate the burden off of the citizenry - like other communities that make mass transit free but rather want to make you pay throught he nose. But not only that, insists on the making the penalties punitive for those who can't afford to *opt in* on pricey months or adequate transit-to-transit solutions. LIGHT-RAILS If you do not have a SacRT monthly pass, single-use ticket, all day pass, etc., there will be light rail officers patroling the trains looking out for you so they can right you up for $152 ticket. LIGHT-RAIL STATIONS More infuriating - especially in high pedestrian traffic areas - these officers will shake you down and write you a ticket if you can not produce a ticket / pass while in the immediate vicinity of a light-rail station. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/sacrt-light-rail-watt-manlove-station-sacramento?select=vw-s0psTzzcW_P5JyeQvPw So if you are that poor sucker resting your feet by sitting on a bench at a light-rail station, you too can get hit with one of those $152 tickets. THE LOWDOWN SacRT - having less to do with providing good customer service for mass transit, and MORE to do with being a punitive assault on the local Sacrmento citizenry.
