I noticed not that many times to choose from going to Davis from Sacramento. We missed the 2 pm. We had to wait almost an hour and half until the next one. We bought our tickets then realized no one told us where we actually get onto the train. Our friend went back in..at the ticket booth the man that helped us was very nice and very helpful. He gave the kids coloring books and pins. Finally on the train it was bumper then I remembered, moved around a lot reminded me being on boat. Can not have bags or luggage out on tables or seats. I think we got called out, but we weren't sure since it was over the load speaker. We had a small bag it had food and snacks in it. We put into the over head. We went to check out the food car. So the kids could feel what it was like to walk from car to car..the food car was mostly over priced snacks. Canned, bottled drinks and packs of chips or nuts. When we arrived in Davis. They said over the loud speaker they do not stop for to long you need to get off so get ready. We couldn't open the over head to get our bag back out. It was stuck. Other passengers helped us open it, they said you really need to pull it hard. Once off the train the Davis train station and building looked so old and run down..so sad looking compared to Sacramento station. We didn't know no one would be there to buy return tickets. But they do offer more times leaving back to Sacramento. We purchased online. We had many people asking if they were in the right place while we were waiting. Davis such a cute town seems like they would clean up the station areas.

When checking in, the ladies at the counter were chatting it up while there was a line of people. Once on the train (booked lower level seats for my elderly mother and I), come to find out there were no seats available in the lower level although we paid for that seating. The people that assist on the train couldn't do enough for you, really amazing people. They checked everyone's ticket on lower level and appeared everyone had lower level seating. I called Amtrak to make a complaint and was sent to customer relations. I spoke to Kara; she stated she checked the schedule and there was absolutely no way that could've been oversold because there were open seats. I told her they had everyone on specific train cars based on the area they were going to, and was told there were no other seats on other cars as it was a holiday weekend and full. I asked her if there was any way to be compensated and she said no there was nothing she could do but send a message to corporate; no idea if she'll really do it. ‍ There was another gentleman behind me with a son that had congestive heart failure, who also purchased lower level seats, and they also had to go up to the upper level, it was a seating DISASTER!!! The icing on the cake was there are no restrooms on the upper level of the train. So when my elderly mother had to use the restroom, she had to go up and down the stairs in that tight stairwell while the train was in motion; completely unsafe and dangerous for an 89yr-old lady. So save yourself the time as it's five hours by train from Sacramento to Reno; just drive, not worth taking Amtrak. It was a terrible experience for my elderly mother and myself!!

TLDR: Do not trust this train station to get you to work or school. If you do, you'll be hours…read morelate, if you're able to show up at all. I remember when this used to be a lightrail station. Lightrail trains would show up every thirty minutes, from before 6am until after 10pm. These days, this is just a bus stop, where you can sometimes catch a train to the Sunrise lightrail station, if you're lucky. But, again, if you're expecting to get to work or school, I wouldn't count on it. We've gotten to the point where it's actually rare to see a train come through, and bus bridges are hit or miss. When we do have bus bridges, they virtually never leave at the same time that the train would have left. Instead, they operate on a schedule that is seemingly made up on the spot. You should never expect to know ahead of time when you might reach your destination, as that's asking SacRT for WAY too much. I tried to catch a train out of Folsom from this station on New Years Eve. I waited along with two other people for over half an hour before we heard a woman yelling, "Excuse me! There's no train coming!" She wasn't even a SacRT employee. She was someone who lived in Folsom, who had tried to take the train home from downtown. All of the passengers had been kicked off at Hazel, being told that the tracks into Folsom were flooded. When she got back to Folsom, and saw us waiting at the station, she felt bad for us, and decided to tell us. I find it really interesting that, in all of that time, no one from SacRT managed to let us know that a train wouldn't be coming. It's not just that they didn't set up a bus bridge-- they didn't even tell us that there weren't any buses or trains coming. Not only were we not notified that we were waiting for nothing, but the station announcements kept going while we were waiting. The ones that say things like, "Make sure to take a seat or grab on before the train starts moving." Why was this announcement system not used to let the people waiting at the station know that no buses or trains were coming? Instead, the way it was used made it seem like a train would be coming soon. I've taken buses and trains in so many cities, and I've never been to another city that doesn't have real time train updates at the station. Imagine if you went to the airport to pick up a friend, and their plane had been canceled three hours ago. But, rather than finding a sign that told you this in real time, all you could find was a sign that listed the times of the original plane schedules. That would suck really bad, right? That's how SacRT is, but with trains instead of planes. No one needs a sign that repeatedly flashes the times that the trains might have shown up, theoretically, if they ever showed up on time, when they literally never do. Not only that, but we have atmospheric rivers every single year. Is SacRT's plan really to cancel every train to Folsom every time it rains?

Historic Folsom is one of the nicer SACRT light rail stations. Since it is the last station on the…read moreGold Line, you have your choice of seating before passengers at the next stations along the line start streaming in. All eastbound trains on the Gold Line don't stop at Historic Folsom. On weekdays, every other train stops here. Though on weekends, all trains during most of the day terminate at this station. Trains stop here every half hour during the day. And the last train to depart from this station daily is at 7 pm according to the Gold Line schedule which I recommend checking beforehand. The station has only one track, so the same train arriving into the station is the same one heading back the other way. There is a good amount of covered seating, unlike the light rail stations in downtown Sacramento which are primarily uncovered aside from the train ramp. If you are headed to Folsom Historic District, make sure to find out what time the train leaves this station so you can plan your visit in the area accordingly. This will ensure your wait at this station isn't too long. Though if the train is sitting at the station, you can board the train so you don't need to wait outside in the heat. If you don't want to drive all the way out to Folsom, I recommend taking the Gold Line here instead. This station is great if you are visiting the Folsom Historic District for a day since it is close to this area.

I do approve of their schedule on Saturdays where the light rail is every 15 minutes so it was helpful to keep to my schedule as light rail previously was every 20 / 30 minutes. The new bus schedule is whacked out. Bus 93 no longer goes its normal route, instead it goes on Andrea Blvd, and then on Roseville Road / Antelope Road, and finally left on Auburn to Louis and Orlando. Another bus serves Auburn Blvd. It's really crazy. The Connect Card is really handy however, as its just like the Clipper Card we have in the Bay Area. I can load transit fare from home and when I come down to visit my family, I don't need to put cash in a farebox , easily scanable if requested by fare inspectors. Also, transfers are free when you board RT using the connect card and get on light rail from a bus, or bus from a light rail and so forth so thats neat they brought it back. Hint - you tap on the bus X amount of times on the bus. If your tap on's for the day exceed $7 you automatically get upgraded to a daily pass for the rest of the day. But most people may get their stuff done in one day. It's there for you power commuters and transit riders if you need it.
