I noticed not that many times to choose from going to Davis from Sacramento. We missed the 2 pm. We had to wait almost an hour and half until the next one. We bought our tickets then realized no one told us where we actually get onto the train. Our friend went back in..at the ticket booth the man that helped us was very nice and very helpful. He gave the kids coloring books and pins. Finally on the train it was bumper then I remembered, moved around a lot reminded me being on boat. Can not have bags or luggage out on tables or seats. I think we got called out, but we weren't sure since it was over the load speaker. We had a small bag it had food and snacks in it. We put into the over head. We went to check out the food car. So the kids could feel what it was like to walk from car to car..the food car was mostly over priced snacks. Canned, bottled drinks and packs of chips or nuts. When we arrived in Davis. They said over the loud speaker they do not stop for to long you need to get off so get ready. We couldn't open the over head to get our bag back out. It was stuck. Other passengers helped us open it, they said you really need to pull it hard. Once off the train the Davis train station and building looked so old and run down..so sad looking compared to Sacramento station. We didn't know no one would be there to buy return tickets. But they do offer more times leaving back to Sacramento. We purchased online. We had many people asking if they were in the right place while we were waiting. Davis such a cute town seems like they would clean up the station areas.

When checking in, the ladies at the counter were chatting it up while there was a line of people. Once on the train (booked lower level seats for my elderly mother and I), come to find out there were no seats available in the lower level although we paid for that seating. The people that assist on the train couldn't do enough for you, really amazing people. They checked everyone's ticket on lower level and appeared everyone had lower level seating. I called Amtrak to make a complaint and was sent to customer relations. I spoke to Kara; she stated she checked the schedule and there was absolutely no way that could've been oversold because there were open seats. I told her they had everyone on specific train cars based on the area they were going to, and was told there were no other seats on other cars as it was a holiday weekend and full. I asked her if there was any way to be compensated and she said no there was nothing she could do but send a message to corporate; no idea if she'll really do it. ‍ There was another gentleman behind me with a son that had congestive heart failure, who also purchased lower level seats, and they also had to go up to the upper level, it was a seating DISASTER!!! The icing on the cake was there are no restrooms on the upper level of the train. So when my elderly mother had to use the restroom, she had to go up and down the stairs in that tight stairwell while the train was in motion; completely unsafe and dangerous for an 89yr-old lady. So save yourself the time as it's five hours by train from Sacramento to Reno; just drive, not worth taking Amtrak. It was a terrible experience for my elderly mother and myself!!

The two videos of rats that I posted tonight are my updated review…read more It's one thing to hear the rats rustling in the bushes, or even to see one dart across the tracks once in a while. It's one thing to see a rat crawl out of the trash with a piece of food, and slide down the side of the can like a fire pole, like I saw the other day. But today I saw a whole family of rats out in broad daylight. I think six was the most I was able to fit into one video clip. They were just running all over the place. Upon arriving home, I did a little research, and found out that these kinds of rats have never been known to carry hantavirus, so, at least that's good news? Anyway. Since my first review, when I complained about security concerns, they have only gotten worse. I recently had a very terrifying incident at this station. A man who appeared to be delusional was walking around the station reciting Bible verses. He was dressed very modestly. When he noticed me, dressed very immodestly (I was coming from a date), he stared me up and down before saying, while making eye contact with me, "Thou shall not suffer a witch to live." Who let this guy out of his time machine from 1692? Obviously, I walked away from him, towards the security cameras, and towards a woman who was holding a baby. The woman was also dressed in black, modest clothing, with a Bible verse on her shirt. Her eyes were lethargic, and she was slurring her words in a way that made it seem like she was either inebriated, or had suffered some kind of traumatic brain injury. The man approached us, hitting his own hands, saying, "Thou shall not suffer a witch to live." She started saying it, too, and I realized that they were together. She looked at me and said, "That's a witch." They both started moving closer to me. I got the F out of there, and didn't come back until a few trains had left. That's just one incident, but if I were to type out every story about every time I've been harassed at this station, it would take me all night. Unfortunately, many of the security guards would rather harass well-behaved homeless people over their fare than address the numerous safety issues that actually plague the train stations every single day. Tonight, for example, a group of young men was standing behind me on the train, rapping the most vulgar lyrics I've ever heard in my life. Like I said, I'm not modest, and I have no issues with rap music. I know every Megan Thee Stallion song by heart (current favorite is Anxiety). I grew up in the projects, about an hour from LA (and no, that's not a joke). I have heard and seen some things. But these young men were free-styling about things so violent and vulgar that I don't even feel comfortable referencing them in my review. I was a little concerned about their health education, too, because, based on the lyrics, one of them seemed to incorrectly think that women could get pregnant from (redacted). Every single one of them proclaimed multiple times that they wanted to un-alive people (is the M word allowed on Yelp?). This all went on for several stops. They were very loud, and very vulgar, and should have been asked to behave, or get off the train. Where was train security? Oh, they were on the same car. They were busy writing a homeless woman a ticket for not having her fare. Aside from that, she had not broken any rules, or bothered anyone. Instead of using cops to make sure that people are paying to get harassed, security should prioritize addressing the crime, and the filth, and making the train safe and sanitary to ride.

"Welcome To SacRT's Police State Where Revenue-Generation is the ONLY Goal"…read more SITREP It seems in concert with the prices for monthly passes, single-tickets, etc. all having increased on July 1, 2016, Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) Enforcement has really increased it's presence: but unfortunately, NOT as a welcome & needed deterrence to prevent illicit activity, but MORE like a "bagman", engaging in strong-arm revenue-generating tactics against virtually all of it's patrons. THE SETUP When one travels Light-Rail - especially late at night after 8pm - one appreciates the moderated visits to the train cars of a SacRT Transit Cop, keeping track of rowdy passengers blasting their iPods/Speakers, harassing other passengers, smoking weed (and doing a poor job of hiding it). But today, "Welcome to the SacRT Police State", where between running errands to and from work, I've already used light-rail (Thursday, July 7) on five (5) separate occasions, and each time I've been asked by an over-abundance of SacRT Transit cops to show "Proof of Fare" - actually TWICE on two of these individual rides merely minutes apart - so that was seven (7) times where SacRT Cops demanded to see "Proof of Fare". POOR ALLOCATION OF PROTECTIVE RESOURCES So instead of having SacRT protection in the evening, SacRT chooses to use vast bulk of their protective force as "revenue-generators" during the day, harassing the same customers 2, 3 or more times a day - or even the same afternoon - to see their "Proof of Fare". 16TH STREET And as bad as the entire SacRT infrastructure is,THIS particular station takes the cake. New signage has gone up proclaiming that anyone caught standing at the station without "Proof of Fare" can be fined, as if they were actually on the Light Rail itself without "Proof of Payment." I had the privilege of watching a gentlemen seeing off a significant other as she got on Light Rail, but as he was walking away, a SacRT cop accosted him, demanding his "Proof of Fare" - no explanation would suffice for this cop, until at the end of writing up the ticket, he said nonplussed, "You can contest this in court." DERELICT IN PROMOTING THE SOCIAL GOOD It wouldn't be so comical if it wasn't for the fact that SacRT has a historically poor record of providing the services warranted by the fee collections they already receive from the local population. But fees continue to go up, and in some instances - fares for the disabled, elderly and students - it's going up by a higher percentage. Ironically, RT funds are misdirected to balance out the needs of the new Arena development and whatever transit infrastructure is needed there since the investors are not ponying up their fare share for the infrastructure that it being built on their behalf (it only makes them more profitable at the taxpayer's expense). The fee increases do NOT better the current infrastructure that we patrons are stuck using: same derelict trains breaking down (not just the older generation trains but their more current fleet, as well as their San Jose supplemental car purchases); less cars per train, meaning more crowded commutes; no SacRT police coverage in the evening when it's really needed ("rented security" is woefully not up to the task) SacRT argues it needs the money. And yet, so many other cities are able to provide FREE mass transit to THEIR citizens. Where? Here's a list of of just SOME U.S. cities (and other countries as well): https://farefreepublictransport.com/city/ *Kansas City *Columbus *Missoula *Miami *Salt Lake City *Pittsburgh *Savannah *West Memphis *Hawaii *Hanover *Corvallis *Commerce *Clemson *Chapel Hill *Baltimore Why doesn't Sacramento step up to the plate and "do the right thing" and provide free mass transit for it's citizens? THE LOWDOWN Harrassing & Heavy-Handed Bagmen: Welcome to the SacRT Police State, where it's all about the revenue, for THEM - NOT in providing better, more affordable services. ADDENDUM: I've already heard a couple of co-workers mention, "F*ck SacRT. I"m going back to driving my car."

The location of this station is convenient as R Street which is a block away is a great destination for Sacramento dining as many of the top restaurants are situated there. The area around the station can be a bit sketchy, particularly at night. But that seemed to be the case for most of the stops in the downtown Sacramento area. High class service? Jazz band playing in every train car with speakers interconnected? We came expecting nothing and ended up having an incredible experience with beautiful decorations well suited for a sweet, memorable Christmas train experience. Online reservations were simple, easy to obtain, and a lot more affordable compared to the exorbant Polar Express tickets. We're extremely happy that we chose this over Sacramento's Polar Express. It's obvious that their staff spent a lot of time putting work into the trains inner and outter decor - beautiful and creative! Parents and adults FYI - on your way to your reserved train car, there's a small bar after boarding the train. It's very important to load up on your magic drinks before heading to your seat. (Drinks.. not drink! But drink responsibly, of course.) Parking isn't far and although limited, it shouldn't be a problem with reservations handled appropriately. We sang a few Christmas songs with the elves, threw snowballs at the grinch (best part, IMO), met Santa, and had a little fun at Santa's (little) village after the ride. Every sip of their hot cocoa (included with your tickets) was warming and delicious, perfect for cold weather. Couple of cookies came along with it, perfect for our kids to snack on. Overall, this was an incredible experience for our kids! Service was fantastic, ambiance was very jolly and felt like home, staff members are very friendly, and the experience is fantastic for all occasions - family, friends, and dates! The AC was completely broken, turning the entire car into a sweaty sauna. They were "cooling" things by keeping bags of ice on the floor that quickly turned into lukewarm puddles. Of course, that meant the beer and water were all warm too. Nothing says "premium train experience" like sipping hot beer while sweating through your clothes. The charcuterie boards were a total scam. The menu looked great, but what actually showed up was a sad, half-empty version with tons of items missing. Ingredients didn't match the description at all. Then, when people started complaining, they announced free food... but only for passengers who didn't order the charcuterie boards. That's fantastic if you're part of the 10% who didn't order one. For the 90% of us who did? Tough luck. To top it off, our car didn't receive any food service until about 30 minutes before arrival. We paid for a nice experience and basically got a rushed, incomplete plate right as we were pulling in. The only bright spot was our server Ashley. She was running around like crazy in that heat, hustling hard and staying positive when everything else was falling apart. She deserves a medal (and a better employer). Save your money and skip this train. Not worth it.

I do approve of their schedule on Saturdays where the light rail is every 15 minutes so it was helpful to keep to my schedule as light rail previously was every 20 / 30 minutes. The new bus schedule is whacked out. Bus 93 no longer goes its normal route, instead it goes on Andrea Blvd, and then on Roseville Road / Antelope Road, and finally left on Auburn to Louis and Orlando. Another bus serves Auburn Blvd. It's really crazy. The Connect Card is really handy however, as its just like the Clipper Card we have in the Bay Area. I can load transit fare from home and when I come down to visit my family, I don't need to put cash in a farebox , easily scanable if requested by fare inspectors. Also, transfers are free when you board RT using the connect card and get on light rail from a bus, or bus from a light rail and so forth so thats neat they brought it back. Hint - you tap on the bus X amount of times on the bus. If your tap on's for the day exceed $7 you automatically get upgraded to a daily pass for the rest of the day. But most people may get their stuff done in one day. It's there for you power commuters and transit riders if you need it.
