I'm a super picky person (which is probably why I'm a yelp elite) and don't give anyone 5 stars unless everything was ecstatic. But 90% was perfect (still waiting for results to settle in as I'm only 5 days post-op). Dr. Shifrin is understanding, nice and knows what he is doing. His staff on the other hand can be a bit scatterbrained. Some are super sweet, some are OK and 2 of them have an sort of snobbery to them. But, Dr. Shifrin is the surgeon, not them so I don't care to much about them. His P.A. is also really nice as well. I got liposuction (2nd time ugh) and let me tell you the pain was horrible (not Shifrin's fault, Lipo is painful period!). The surgical center staff (nurses, intake, etc) are super sweet and nice. I already see good results and will update after a month or so when I see more results. I say book a consult, always see a few different doctors and you will know which one is the right one for you. read more

If you're considering implants with Dr. Shifrin, please read on, especially if you're from out of town. There's a different doctor near the airport who is cheaper. Butt implant surgery has a high rate of complications, and you need an honest, ethical physician there for you if something goes wrong. In my experience, this person is NOT Dr. Shifrin. It's possible he's able to maintain a veneer of civility in cases where nothing goes wrong. Unfortunately my experience was similar to the other negative reviews on this site. Dr. Shifrin tore straight through my muscle in the first operation, then misled me about what happened, further deceived me into signing an agreement under the FALSE PRETENSE that he would create a new implant pocket to fix things and make good on his word from the initial consult regarding the lift and liposuction. NONE of this happened. He kept my 17500, and MY BUTT CHEEKS ARE NOW 2 DIFFERENT SHAPES AND SIZES. The R. cheek looks almost clefted when I lie on my side, with a hard disc visible projecting through the muscle. In a type of reverse BBL, he removed fat from my upper butt cheek and accentuated the deformity of the mispositioned implant. My RECOMMENDATION for out-of-towners is to go with DR GREGORY WIENER instead of Dr. Shifrin. Dr. Wiener charges 2K less than Dr. Shiffrin for butt implants and 4K less than what Dr. Shiffrin charged me for a combined set of procedures. Dr. Wiener's practice is located very close to ORD airport, near Rosemont, and Rosemont has one of the best fashion outlet malls in the country. I don't know many other malls have a Brunello Cuccinelli, Gucci, Prada, Moncler, Burberry OUTLET inside the same building. It's a really upscale area, with fine dining and nice hotels. I only received a virtual consult and quotes through Dr. Wiener, so my recommendation is based solely off the highly negative experience I had by electing to go with Dr. Shifrin instead. In fact, I'm probably going to have to pay Dr. Wiener or someone else to correct the twice failed set of operations performed by Dr. Shifrin. PLEASE GOOGLE DR DAVID SHIFRIN IN RELATION TO LEGAL CASES. He's sued "78" others to suppress negative reviews. There are probably many others who have been in the same position as me, whose reviews never made it online to protect others. I've come across several similar stories across other platforms, including RealSelf, which is one of the most popular. Lastly, please don't believe any of the hype on Dr. Shifrin's expensively curated webpage. If anyone reading this review has had a similar experience, DO NOT BELIEVE HIS OFFER TO REVISE his mistakes, instead TAKE THE MONEY and file complaints with the AMA, IL medical licensing board and any other outlet, including media outlets and review platforms. He showed up to work with bloodshot eyes on the day of my initial surgery, reeking of smoke and possibly other intoxicants. I'm uncertain if this contributed to all of the errors and his hostility toward me, but he should take the time to detox if he's struggling with addiction issues, instead of behaving belligerently and aggressively toward his patients. read more

I have waited over a year to write this review. I absolutely DO NOT recommend Dr. Shifrin. As a medical family we are more understanding than most and can be more forgiving than most. However... there is zero acceptance of fault on is behalf of botched jobs. My breasts bottomed out after initial surgery which was an implant exchange. I literally had beautiful breasts that I loved for over 10 years. Came to him for volume loss. The implants I came with were Mentor. I specifically chose this surgeon because we were going to exchange using the same implant brand. I woke up from surgery with Sientra implants in place which bottomed out 1 month post op. I also woke up from surgery WITHOUT a bra in place. He agreed to correct the bottoming out "free of charge" that came with a $4000 anesthesia fee. I came home with painful JP drains, lopsided breasts, and a very large visual lump on my right breast. My two post op visits, he failed to see me at all. Only sent in his nurse. I waited a year to follow up for the trauma of coming back was too much for me and I wanted to see if the lump was the galaflex that was placed. 1 year later the lump is still there and my breasts are completely uneven to the naked eye. Upon follow up where I was seeking an explanation of what the lump could be, it was very clear he did not have a clue. He proceeded to absolutely insult us by printing photos of my breast before and after and pointing out that they were lopsided before. (Which they were not) and even if they were a good plastic surgeon would have fixed it and not sent me home with breasts that were more than 1/2 inch lower than the other. Instead of saying "you right. This is not good. Let me fix it" he felt the need to point out that they weren't perfect before. Funny thing is... he couldn't tell me what they were before because he never measured!!!!!!! A reputable surgeon you have to wait months to see. I called on a Tuesday and was in that Friday. Dr. David Shifrin did my hairline reduction and eyebrow lift. DO NOT LET HIM TOUCH YOUR HEAD. I have been in Constant pain 24/7, when I saw him, he put his hands over his belly and said there is nothing he can do for me. My head feels like it's been stretched in a vice and my Skin on my scalp has been beyond stretched. I also feel two nods in my head identical areas on both sides excruciating pain as if some of my hair is stitched into my scalp causing extreme pain and bumps on my Head. Absolutely phenomenal surgeon and anesthesiologist! So far, I'm healing wonderfully, but of course time will tell. The front desk was a little confusing at times.... I received conflicting information both pre and post op and they seemed a bit scatterbrained. But overall, I'd definitely return for Dr.Shifrin. Had a breast augmentation done with poor results. One breast was falling significantly lower than the other. He agreed to perform the procedure again, this time the result being that *both* of my breasts bottomed out. While waking up from my second surgery, I heard the nurses making fun of a panic attack I had earlier when I had initially began to wake up from surgery. I asked my father (who had accompanied me to surgery) if anyone had expressed to him that I woke up in such a state. I wanted to believe I had imagined these comments. Unfortunately, I had not. He had been informed by staff that I woke up frightened and screaming. When I mentioned this to his office, they let me know that the nurses were no longer working there and that the staff could not "speak on what I believed I had heard." When I expressed my dissatisfaction with the results of the second surgery, I was told if I wanted they could place additional mesh inside to hold up my implants at my own expense. I wasn't willing to pay for a third botched procedure, so I declined and am currently awaiting surgery with a more qualified surgeon for removal. Additionally, when I asked for my operative notes to bring with to my explant consultations: it was like pulling teeth. His staff was incredibly rude and made it nearly impossible to get my notes. I ended up having to call the surgery center and someone on staff told me that they could not find any request from Dr. Shifrin's office for my notes. And once I did receive my notes, they had incorrect information. You'd think if they couldn't get the surgery right, at least the notes would be correct. I wrote a review last week but it was too emotional so I deleted it not to bore you guys with a lifetime story lol. There is no summary that would do a personal journey justice anyway. To make a long story less long, I cannot be more grateful to Dr Shifrin and his team. I was in an accident years ago that left my leg severely burned. At that time, the goal was to essentially save the leg so aesthetic outcome was not a thought, they slapped a skin graft on there and stitched it how they could. Since then, my leg has been a source of insecurity and pain for me and I dedicated years of my life in search of a surgeon willing to try working on the disfigurement I was left with. I couldn't understand why they couldn't try to cut the graft out little by little? I even wrote to various doctors across the country saying I'd like to volunteer for any new burn scar research or techniques that might be out there if anyone wants to "practice" on my leg without liability so that future burn victims have more options available. I was told to just take antidepressants lol Then in like 2019 a friend of mine got lipo with doctor Shifrin and got a fantastic result so I was curious too and went to the consultation. During the consultation, he was like "what's with ur leg?" And I'm just like "oh there's nothing we can do about that, don't worry about it" and he goes "well, would you want to cut it out? We can try to make it into a line scar?" .... I'm pretty sure I unintentionally gave him a dirty look at that point like u gotta be fkn kidding me lol since then we've been working on my leg and this year for the first time since the accident I've been able to wear shorts like a normal person. The result turned out to be better than I could have possibly imagined. We still have a part under my knee I have to wait for since it takes about 6 months for the skin in the area to "relax" and stretch from previous procedure. But honestly I'm not even sure if I'll do that part because at this point I'm so much more confident I don't even care anymore. the areas we did healed beautifully and I can barely see the line scar. The progress we made already has been life changing and I cannot be more grateful. I attached a few "gross" progress photos since I was fully awake on Snapchat during the procedure : ) (by choice, I'm scared of anesthesia and I'm so happy the doctor worked with my preference in this was as well. I got a few shots in the leg and I didn't feel anything) Oh great this turned out really long again! lol In summary, I recommend Dr Shifrin to anyone as a professional and as a kind human being. read more

I went to Shifrin plastic surgery for lipo 360 and a bbl. I was able to schedule an appointment after paying for a consult. I met with doctor Paul I believe his name was he's the black doctor. Very handsome btw. I enjoyed my consult and then met with the coordinator Donna to pay and schedule my procedure. I originally wanted a tummy tuck along with the bbl but after being quoted $17,500 I knew I could only afford the lipo and bbl. it came out to $10,500. This is the most money I've ever dropped on any one thing at one time in my life. I didn't even need that much to buy my house. My surgery was in September of 2018. So I'm now 2 years post op. The day of the surgery I was very excited and nervous. But as my appointment slot came and went and I was still waiting I became irritated. Apparently Dr Shifrins other surgeries ran long. I had the procedure and woke up in the recovery room. After the nurses gave me enough morphine to get me out the door I went home. I had 2 follow up appointments. I was concerned about the swelling because it seemed like my fupa area resembled a spare tire now. Dr.Paul is who I saw for my follow ups as well. He assured me that it was swelling and that it would go down. I was worried because I didn't received my full compression garment until my follow up. Most surgeons have you in it right away. I was only given this Velcro wrap thingy the day of my surgery. Anyway after my 2 follow ups I never heard from them again. I never got to compare my before and after and my fupa area never really improved. I guess I really needed the tummy tuck. My body absorbed the majority of the fat placed in my behind within the first couple months. I ended up losing another 20lbs on my own and that took the rest of the $10,500 booty I paid for. 2 years later I'm now looking to have the surgery again maybe in Miami because Chicago is way to expensive. read more

Very pleased with my experience at Dr.Shifrins practice. Staff is very friendly and helpful and Dr.Shifrin is a very talented plastic surgeon. I'm very glad I chose him for my rhinoplasty! Wow where to begin.. the decision making process to select a plastics doc is one taken very seriously with me. After doing my due diligence I scheduled my consult with Dr.Shifrin to further discuss what options are available for men looking to remove belly fat amd form a shape with lout having a tummy tuck. During my appointment doc and I discussed what is reality and what's simply a pipe dream of mine, as good as the doc is he's not my miracle worker...Doc walked through the areas where he would remove the fat from my flanks and stomach as well as my chest and complete the etching on my stomach and pecs. I was pretty comfortable with his entire relaxed approach and bedside manner. After the appointment of what's possible I met with Donna his practice manager aka the money lady or reality check... lol. She is super pleasant and explained to me my options and cost associated with each, she was extremely transparent and upfront with her explanations. After some brief schedule shuffling I scheduled my procedure for the following Tuesday. On my pre-op appointment the staff again was extremely pleasant and prompt. They did the usual items to make sure your an ideal candidate for surgery and final "walk through" with the doc to ensure all Expectations are level set and good to go. When I arrived the following Thursday for my case the surgery center staff was great, efficient, and demonstrated great bedside manner. The surgery suite on the third floor was immaculate, modern, and from what I remember had a window in the surgery suite... after surgery the doctor and his staff again demonstrated care and amazing bedside care. During the night I had a brief question on the amount of fluid draining and his PA who immediately returned my call settled all My concerns which relaxed me so I could sleep. On my follow-up appointment the following day, my appointment went great with the doc and as usual his staff was pleasant and ontime. At this point I am One week out from surgery and I could not be any happier with my decision to have this done by Dr. Shrifin. Once all the swelling is gone I will post pre-post pictures. Update: I was just threatened with legal action if I don't remove this review. I reminded them that the Consumer Review Fairness Act of 2016 protects US citizens and their first amendment rights from being violated. I went in for a BBL and breast lift with implant consultation. The consultation went fine. It was the aftermath that ensued which resulted in a total lack of trust in the doctor and his staff. Let me explain. I received two quotes- one was for the BBL, which was quoted at 10K. The other was a quote for the BBL and breast lift with implants. That quote amounted to 18.5K. This led me to the assumption that a breast lift with implants would cost 8.5K. I confirmed the cost of the breast lift with implants alone with an employee over the phone the day of my consultation. After much deliberation I decided I wanted to move forward with a breast lift with no implant. I emailed the scheduling coordinator and was ignored. I then texted the associate who helped schedule my consultation and was also ignored when I asked for a quote for a lift without implants. I then decided to email the doctor directly who ensured me I would receive a call on Monday to finally get a quote for a breast lift with no implants. The associate on the phone told me that a breast lift with no implant would cost $9,500. I asked her to repeat herself to make sure I wasn't losing my mind. She repeated that despite the original breast lift with implant procedure amounting to $8,500, the surgery center had decided a breast lift with no implant would cost $1,000 more. It was at that point I ended the call with a quick thank you and hung up. I have never received such inconsistent information and poor communication from a plastic surgeon before. My suspicion is they have such a high influx of potential clients they don't have enough staff to handle all of them. This is still not an excuse for the extremely poor communication and inconsistent price information being given to patients. Though a friend of mine had a positive experience here, mine was remarkably different. I am disappointed, as Dr. Shifrin was my first choice. After seeing how disorganized, poorly trained and inconsistent their quotes are in terms of price I will never choose him as a surgeon. I have all the reason to feel I was deceived and this, I believe, is unethical and blatantly rude. It's a matter of being transparent about the cost of procedures that should have consistent quotes, not quotes that change depending on the person whose on the other end of the phone. Again, to reiterate, I didn't undergo such a frustrating, misinformed, poorly communicative process until after the consultation was over. read more

Okay so I would need to write a novel about how amazing my experience having a tummy tuck and liposuction done by Dr. David Shifrin has been. First off for 20+ years I worked out and ate healthy and I could never reach my fitness goals because most of my issue was from pregnancy and I had the classic mother's apron. It tore my self confidence down, and was always very discouraging. I wanted to give up. Dr. Shifrin and his team of nurses especially mine Kristen were so amazing. I hope they are proud of the work they have done for me because they should be. In all interactions with them I could clearly see they love the work they do and see how it is not just plastic surgery but can change lives and help people. They were kind, knowledgable experts. Their facility is clean and their post operative support was exemplar. You could tell Dr. Shifrin was the best because he is confident and many doctors from Chicago pick him for themselves; there were a few I saw getting procedures over my visits. It's only been 2 weeks and while I am still pretty swollen and I know I have a long recovery ahead of me before my results are at their best, and this is the case with all tummy tucks. However, even at 2 weeks my results look amazing! Simply amazing. I asked Dr. Shifrin for a natural looking belly button in the same location as my bellybutton and I wanted it not too large or high like some photos I had seen, and OMG did he listen. He went above and beyond to hear what I wanted and to make it happen and customize the procedure for me. He was also very gentle and reassuring. My belly button looks like I was born with it. Again, it does need to heal of course for some time before I can enjoy my full results but it is easy to see how good it will come out. My belly is perfectly flat but I am not overdone. My scar is what is expected but it was not a hack job it is thin and only extends over my hip bones slightly. I plan to have it laser removed on the hip sections somewhere between 6 months and 1 year post. Kirsten my nurse was the literal best. She even gave me her cell number and has answered and addressed any concerns or questions I have had via text since with kindness and confidentiality. I freaked out a little about the drains thought they were clogged in the first few days and told Kristen via text, she set up an immediate appointment with Dr. Shifrin for me and he was able to confirm it was okay, help me move the clot out of the tube, and most importantly put my mind at ease. Dr. Shifrin has been very accessible to say the least never charging extra but willing to see me extra times if I asked with no issue at all. All of my post op appointments always have no wait in and out. This team is so dedicated and responsive. I have only written a few reviews in my life but I needed to write this one because my results have already even at 2 weeks been life changing for me. It's like as soon as the extra skin was removed so was my self doubt. This could not have been a more pleasurable experience and I would do it ten thousand times over if I had to but I would only do it with Dr. Shirfin and Nurse Kristen too! If you are thinking about getting a tummy tuck or liposuction don't travel to Miami or LA ouch how will you even get home. Stay local and see Dr. Shirfin and you will have a much safer and better experience. I am 100% glad I made that choice. read more

I got a tummy tuck which included lipo of the flanks and lower back. I am soooo happy with my results! My stomach is so smooth and my waist is small. Everyone says I have a great shape! I only wear 2 piece swim suits and can finally wear crop tops without needing the high waisted bottoms. Amazing job! Absolutely love my results. Dr. West and Dr. Shifrin both are nice people and answered all questions I had before and after the surgery. I tell everyone where they should go when they ask me to recommend them to someone and that of course would be here hands down.! Before and after my surgery they were always available to answer any questions I might have. They are so helpful making sure I was prepared for my procedure, everything from after care checking my prescriptions letting me know what to expect from draining to what I should have prepared at home for after care. I had the most wonderful experience. After meeting with the doctor for no longer than 15 minutes, I was made to sign a document, which of course no one reads, In order to get Dr. Shifrin's course of treatment and price. Dr Shfrin's work is unlike any plastic surgeon. I had tummy tuck and lipo around the abdomen and lower back. Later, I had lipo on my legs. I couldn't be happier with the results. It doesn't get any better than Dr. Shifrin. I am a massive weight loss patient. After losing the weight, I am a 5/9 size 2/4 and should have been so happy. Instead I was depressed looking at the aftermath of skin. I met with 9 surgeons. And by that I mean some of the top rated surgeons throughout Illinois and decided on Shifrin for several reasons. One really important factor was his scar placement options. He was able to perform these very big surgeries and leave my body in a way that looked amazing. I looked at hundreds of photo galleries for body lifts, thighs lifts, arms lifts and could not find work as good as his in this area. In all honestly the only work I found that was comparable was one doctor in Beverly Hills and one in Miami. He also really cares about the results and the person. He even made a house call the day after a snow storm to check up on me post op! What surgeon does that? The danger of me walking on ice would have been stressful. He is the best. This review is based on the consultation alone. The staff was very welcoming, and the building is very easy to find. I had my first consultation about the rhinoplasty procedure I've been wanting to get with Dr. Shifrin today and it was such a breeze! I was in and out within an hour. I've been doing my research, and he looks like the perfect doctor that I could trust with my face. He was very friendly and sincere making me feel 100% comfortable. I'm not an expert on plastic surgery (at least below the neck), but, having worked with Dr. Shifrin on some facial cases, I can attest to his skill. He has great "hands" but also good judgment on figuring out what patients want, and how to achieve those goals. Often people have a difficult time knowing what they "should" want from an aesthetic surgeon, and it's not always easy communicating desires. Shifrin is a good listener, but also has the experience to guide clinical decisions. Like I said, my area is above the neck, but I can tell an excellent from average surgeon just from how they handle tissue -- this is a talented doctor, one I would trust myself or a family member to. read more

I don't know that I can say enough about my experience with DS (Dr Shifrin) & DW (Dr West). From scheduling the appointment, to the initial consultation, to discussion of budget options to pre-op appointment, to actual surgery to post operation visits, to random calls to DW for why my poo was black. Everything and everyone was on point! I initially met with DW for dual consultation with my "sister from another mister". The staff accommodated our request. We were made aware of all fees and consultations at the onset of the appointment. We were provided links to prepared pre-consultation questionnaires. We were provided reminders by email and by phone. Everyone was very professional. Even when I thought there might have been an issue via email. I was immediately called to resolve this miscommunication. The day of the consultation I was super nervous and self conscious about being observed by strangers. DW performed the initial consultation and called in DS to confirm. What I went in for was definitely a breast lift and a tummy tuck and to gain insight on arm & thigh lift. DW was honest and blunt about what he felt I needed and didn't and why. DS was in full agreement with DW's assessments. The most important thing about the consultation was the two of them were real people, down to earth and hilarious. Although, I wanted a smaller butt and thighs, they both thought I was crazy and refused treatment in those areas. The honesty made me feel like not only was my wants important but the doctors' weren't about just making money. Providing me with the best results for my situation was most important. After 2 other consultations I decided to go with Dr West & Shifrin. I called to take the next steps, got voicemail... hate leaving voicemails so I decided to chat through the feature on the website. I got a message that says, no one is available, we will get back to you soon. I hadn't completed the transition into disappointment before Donna called me, who is freaking amazing!! She's better than the Donna on the TV show suits!! The ABSOLUTE BEST plastic surgeon in chicago. I came in for a breast enlargement surgery. The staff was super nice. He spent time explaining everything to me. I came back for my preoperative visit and picked my implant size. I was nervous of course but it came out great. Sending all my friends to him. He is very down to earth and unassuming. That made me feel at ease. His office was busy too which I liked as it was a good sign. I had been to other offices for consults and the doctors were either snobby or weird or I gave me the impression they didn't do a lot of cosmetic surgery (office was attached to a hospital). Okay, I had lipo three weeks ago (legs, arms and abdomen); I am 53 years old and was looking to just feel a little better about myself. At any rate this was worst then having a baby PAIN, I cannot express how much pain I was in, I just knew I had died and there was no returning. When I came in for my consultation, Dr. West said to me he will not lie --- I will feel like I been ran over by a truck but the result are beautiful , when in reality I felt like I was ran over by train, bus and truck all at once (the result are nice). I would say if you cannot afford a recovery center for about a week, please have someone at home who LOVES YOU to help take care of you because you are going to need it for the first three days with plenty of electrolytes. I had plan to come back for a breast lift but at this point I am going to pass, elected surgery no more for me. Overall, I can see the changes and I would like to say thanks to both Dr. Shifrin & West for a job well done and for making me feel comfortable. I will definitely recommend this team for all your cosmetic surgery needs. I also like to thanks all the assistants/nurses they were great, especially the ones that told me about their journal to recovery from lipo/tummy tuck/breast implant and what they did to get back on their feet, the small conversations was truly appreciated. read more
