Ask me what I don't love about Dr. Jay Fibus? Seriously,…read moreGOOD LUCK finding a therapist like him and his associates--I truly mean that with all the love in my heart, but read on if you've landed on this review and you're "shopping around" for a new therapist or were referred to him by someone. No joke, the guy is a freaking genius. Cambridge graduate and has applied the most unique skills in our therapy sessions. I loved meeting in his office and never thought I would be okay with zooming into our sessions because of the pandemic, but oh my gosh--they've AWESOME because of how vulnerable I can still be from the comfort of my own home. In a nutshell, my husband left my son and me, almost losing my job, my home, and custody of my son (prior marriage). Dr. Fibus not only helped me pick up the ashes of where my life was but he sat in the trenches with me as I was sitting in the dung. Let's just say the depression of co-dependency was far too much and I didn't reach self-care and healthy until I opened up and got real with him. He then helped me walk through the dark rooms of my mind which I had vowed to never let anyone in. He held my hand metaphorically and walked me up the stairs to life's reality so I could sing again from the mountaintops. Therapy takes time and unless you are thirsty for it, don't bother. It'll be a waste of everyone's time, treasures, and skilled talent. But when you do decide that your life has gotten to a point where it's led you to this review then understand this of yourself, it's time to make the call and I hope it's to Dr. Fibus. I was so fearful of going because I didn't want anyone to see the hurts, but in doing so, I've gained all that is good back into my life and then some and they're here to stay. I will never say it's easy, never. It takes mental work and your willingness to open up. It's NOT easy. It's the weak that say therapy is a bunch of crap. To that, I say hogwash! It takes so much work to rewire a marriage, a relationship or your mind. So again, unless you're willing to be serious, don't bother. Dr. Fibus gave me permission to self-reflect on the trials and circumstances that led to the healing of the negative and ugly scars of my life. He did it such a funny and gentle way that I never imagined in a million years I would have the perspective I do about those moments. I have learned to embrace them all and allowed myself to finally become more vulnerable and a feeler in my life. I didn't realize the techniques because they came naturally to our conversations and nothing about it was awkward like I had envisioned they would be when "sitting in a therapy session." My life was super far from being screwed up--I just had to learn the fabric of my own DNA and realized in time that life, indeed, is beautiful. He's respectful of both genders and gave me security and compassion when my husband left. He never made it awkward when I would sit for a while and lament and just cry out. He was above reproach and respectful to my ex when he made that decision to stay focused on my journey without being biased. When I ask him a question he is so direct but with a light hearted charm that made me go back out into the world and reestablish my life and identity. He's taught me what healthy boundaries are and worked with me on the darkest days of my depression. He's helped my son out in a few sessions along with his associate who my son just adores and can call up at any moment knowing if he needs an outlet, they are there for him. It got really rough when his step dad had just walked out me but on him too. I have learned that being a successful single mom can be messy, difficult, and imperfect but that it can also be organized, easy, and perfect on some days. I see life as progressive where as before I was looking for perfection; felt I was letting down others; or would anger easily if the person I was co-dependent on would "let me down." The struggles were real and now they're struggles that are super manageable. He's referenced reading material that I thrive at when given quiet moments to read. He taught me that audible books on the way to work can re-wire my brain if I lend myself 20 minutes just to work on myself daily. I take compliments and see the beauty of my journey and how far I have come. I see all of the beauty and thrive from the scars to know that each one them has a story for someone to hear them at the right moment. With all the experiences I've had, I can relate to just about anyone where as before I wanted to depend on a person to make me happy and hide from the world. Don't even overthink it, pick up the phone and just make that appointment, I promise you--you will NOT be disappointed!

I first learned about neurofeedback when my osteopathic doctor recommended Los Angeles…read moreNeurofeedback. At the time, I was dealing with chronic lower back pain, persistent inner tension, low energy, and anxiety. My osteopath believed that much of what I was experiencing was related to emotional stress and thought neurofeedback could help regulate my nervous system and expand my capacity to respond to whatever life brings. From my very first session, I noticed a shift. Instead of feeling tense and on edge, I felt calmer, more settled, and soothed. I continued going twice a week for about 16 sessions, and over time I kept noticing meaningful changes in both how I felt and how I responded to everyday life. One thing I really appreciate is that neurofeedback didn't make me feel like I was avoiding or suppressing my emotions. Life still brings stress, and I still experience triggers and the physical sensations that can come with them. The difference is that they no longer feel as intense (if they're intense at all), and they don't linger nearly as long. Situations that would have completely derailed me in the past simply don't carry the same charge anymore. I feel like I've made meaningful and lasting changes in how I respond to stress since adding neurofeedback to my care routine. That "boost" my osteopath talked about became very evident because it made all of the calming and self-regulation practices I'd been using for years feel much more effective. Meg and all of the facilitators at Los Angeles Neurofeedback are wonderful. They're knowledgeable, gentle, professional, and take the time to answer questions, so you always feel like you're in good hands. It's now been over a month since my last session, and I still feel more grounded, intentional, and able to take life's inevitable ups and downs in stride. If you're dealing with anxiety, chronic stress, inner tension, or feeling emotionally "stuck," I'd encourage you to look into neurofeedback and see whether it might be a good fit for you. My experience at Los Angeles Neurofeedback was excellent, and for me, it was time and money very well spent.

What isn't obvious is that, when you're dealing with MD's or PhD's who have ADHD themselves, while they may understand the condition really well and have good advice, they STILL HAVE ADHD and it really impacts how they run their operations and conduct themselves in their dealings with customers. The front desk rarely returned my calls and I found out they only hire a part-time college student to run the desk. One of the docs (unnamed out of respect) gave me their cell number and instructed me to text them to set up appointments. Four texts and six weeks later, NO RESPONSE. It was very, very frustrating. I ended up walking away from the ADHD relationship... for me, it was just too hard to deal with an ADHD boyfriend and ADHD counselors when no one around you was very reliable. Their online 'club' for ADHD Couples Success is similarly disorganized and while the webinars are decent, the customer service is also ADHD-plagued or non-existent. There were times when the online videos didn't work -- initially, when I signed up, I was charged nearly $100 and the entire site wasn't working, WTF, they charge $47/month, for what? Chat rooms and videos were non-functioning and the site is really just a souped-up wordpress page that isn't really robust enough for what they say they offer. Webinars start at times other than advertised so you'll get spammed with email about participating in a live webinar only to log in at the proper time and find out it's already ending. Very disorganized and confusing... again, those running the operation have ADHD and haven't put someone in charge to run their enterprise efficiently. Bottom line, the info is good, but the hard work you have to put in to get that info makes it almost not worth it.

Life-Changing Experience with Dr. Eric Li (CBT Psychiatrist)…read more All my life I struggled with severe impulse control issues--sometimes almost to the point of physical outbursts: yelling, breaking pencils, storming away from people. In my earlier career, this was tolerated (even seen as "passion" in old-style work environments). I was a high achiever, deeply committed, and loved by family and friends, so I didn't fully realize how much others struggled with my outbursts from time to time. But as workplaces evolved and became less tolerant of uncomfortable situations, my behavior started creating real problems. Colleagues perceived my loss of control as personal attacks--even though, to me, it was more of a somatic battle, like burning up inside unless I released the emotion. At home, my daughters, now raising kids of their own, asked me directly to do something about it, so their children could see their grandpa for who I truly am: a passionate and loving person. I saw a psychiatrist and was diagnosed with depression and a debilitating impulse-control disorder. Thankfully, I had always managed to stop short of crossing into true violence, but the struggle was real. I didn't want to go on medication, and through a referral I met Dr. Eric Li to try Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). From the first sessions, Dr. Li impressed me not only with his medical expertise but with his ability to map my internal brain activity patterns and create a customized CBT approach. It worked like magic. Within weeks, I no longer felt that unbearable "fire" inside. Over time, I gained the ability to moderate my reactions and express emotions in a balanced, constructive way. Today, I feel like a changed man. I'm able to reconnect with others fully and live a much more fulfilling life. I am deeply grateful to Dr. Li for giving me this second chance. Dr. Li is not only an excellent psychiatrist but also a remarkable person: a medical doctor, a skilled pianist, a conversationalist with encyclopedic knowledge, and--most importantly--someone with an exceptional ability to listen. I recommend Dr. Li wholeheartedly to anyone considering CBT. For me, it was truly life-changing.
