I went to Amen Clinics seeking answers for severe chronic head pain that began after receiving the Moderna vaccine. I was looking for a thorough medical investigation into the root cause of my symptoms. Instead, my life took a devastating turn. After 26 years on an SSRI, I was tapered off in approximately three weeks. I was not fully warned about the risks of rapid SSRI discontinuation after decades of use, including the possibility of severe and protracted withdrawal. Soon after, I developed akathisia -- an unbearable internal neurological torment. I was eventually reinstated on Valium when my symptoms became overwhelming. I have now been tapering Valium for two years. It has been three years since I was taken off Prozac, and I continue to live with relentless nervous system pain. What began as an effort to find answers for head pain became a cascade of medication changes that permanently altered my health trajectory. I later connected with others who experienced rapid tapers at Amen Clinic, and are still suffering from long-term debilitating withdrawal syndromes. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this clinic. If you are on long-term psychiatric medications, please research slow tapering protocols and understand the risks of rapid withdrawal before making changes. Ask detailed questions. Our child had already been diagnosed twice with High Functioning ASD ie Aspergers, think Sheldon on Big Bang Theory. We went to the Amen Clinic in LA for their unique diagnosis and treatment methods given Amen Clinic's ASD marketing. After a full round of expensive tests, which of course showed ASD, and every recommended vitamin, supplement and devise was bought, there was no specialized ASD treatment. For example, the green drink was unpalatable for a sensitive Aspie and the vitamins too numerous, so that it filled the stomach in place of food, and that was before we turned the green powder into pills, as recommended. Also, use of the VNS device was not encouraged beyond the recommendation to buy it thru their office. There was no clinician appts for set up, first time use, help, questions or follow up. They seemingly had no protocol in place for its use. And Dr Storage seemed surprised when we expected in office ASD treatment, that which might include talk therapy or any other currently recognized protocol for ASD anxiety processing. He gave us names of outside therapists because he said there was no specialized ASD therapists, including himself, at the Clinic. In checking, nothing in the recommended therapists bios gave any indication they treated ASD, and in calling, they didn't! It was like Dr Storage picked them out of a hat. To preface, we had already been down a treatment path by a therapist who pretended to know about ASD, but never mentioned masking, autistic burnout or any of the self processing hacks to treat it. Instead the therapist ignored the previous ASD diagnoses, calling it anything but, and addicted our child to her once a week $200 therapy sessions, which seemed to include thinking meds were the only way to correct anxiety. Dr Storage was no better. Forget Amen's supposed philosophy that treatment with no drugs, or the least amount of drugs, makes a healthier brain, with a follow up scan to prove it.. Dr Storage said it was ok to put our child back on Pristiq, a Black Box drug not approved for children after it was shown to cause 'thought disturbance and suicidal behavior' and to be no better than a placebo! Next he wanted our child , who already had heart issues, on Lamactil , even though it was known to exacerbate them. And it had other bad side effects, which may have been worth it, except Lamactil is 60 percent less effective, to the point of being ineffective, if combined with most birth control pills, that which our child was on. In back n forth emails, I tried to get an understanding of why Dr Storage wanted our child to take on a bunch of side effects for a drug that wasn't effective, but I never seemed to get a straight answer. We finally stopped everything after the 4th ER visit for seizures and passing out, much to Dr Storage's chagrin it seemed. He wanted the Lamactil to continue even though our child was skin and bones, constantly nauseous, throwing up, not eating, having seizures, all known side effects, along with self medicating, combining drugs and heart issues. That was then. My child is currently under the care of a specialized counselor working with a health team that has put a lot of time and care into regulating med usage. Two months ago our child turned 18 and more recently seemed to do an end run around the team. It is our understanding Dr Storage gave our now 18 yr old a prescription for the Lamactil we refused to let him keep prescribing before. That is why I'm finally doing a review. Today our child's afternoon included a 911 call, an ambulance ride and an ER visit. The first in a long time. Given the readouts, the cause is heart rhythm problems. We are hoping it isn't permanent. In the meantime, hopefully this review helps others avoid the issues we had, and seem to continue to have, with Dr Storage and the Amen Clinic. read more

I reached out to Amen Clinics last December, and 1yr later, I could not be more grateful that I had. Amen Clinics redefined what mental health care means to me. The team de-mystified my experience with SPECT imaging, which allowed me to see what was happening physiologically. My doctor (Dr. Bello) helped me understand how my neural circuitry was actually working vs how it should be working. Our discussions were so productive because Dr. Bello is terrific at simplifying complex topics and because he could map my questions to the scan. I started this journey with many questions (different hypotheses) and ended with trust & confidence with the treatment plan given to me. Before making an appointment with Amen clinics, I struggled with sleeping on time on a consistent basis and I was always anxious and distracted. I made an appointment with Dr. Storage to go over my situation. He was able to see what was going in inside my brain and notice that I likely have ADHD. After this diagnosis, he gave me a step by step guide to manage my ADHD such as what supplements to take, lifestyle changes, etc. after taking his advice and putting it into action, I've notice great results! My own experience; It was a huge waste of money. My son was extremely ADHD. They had even told him they had never seen a brain as ignited as my son's. The clinic put him on a plethora of drugs. We left the clinic, and it took years, but we finally found a psychiatrist who cared, and got him on the right track. Best experience ever. Thank you for being such an amazing clinic! I have three children: my son is 23, and two girls, 18, and 15, and each have different fathers. My 18-year-old daughter is the one child of my three who's had many struggles with mental health during her early teens, perhaps due to her father (my ex-husband) who has bi-polar disorder. My daughter had shown many signs of inheriting that disorder from her dad. Then as she became older, it was much more difficult to figure out what exactly was going on in her brain chemistry. We have tried so many medications, treatments, therapy, and even a month and a half of inpatient treatment. Finally, after our positive experience with the Amen Clinic, my daughter now has a better understanding of how to manage her mental wellness and is doing great. She currently is not taking any prescription medication, as we are actively seeking alternative therapies to keep her on the path of feeling good. Healthy lifestyle, good sleep habits, regular exercise, eating healthy, and staying sober are all contributing to her continued wellness. My daughter is so healthy and happy! During her teen years, she tried self medicating with pot, nicotine vape, adderall, and other substances. She also regularly self harmed by cutting into her arms with a razor blade for several years. My daughter has cutting scars all up and down both of the insides of her forearms and wrists. As a mother, this totally affected me. I was doing anything I could do to help her, but my daughter hid a lot of these things from me during her early teen years. I wasn't aware of how bad it was until it reached a crisis point when she was suicidal. Our experience with the Amen Clinic was incredibly positive and helpful. I was skeptical about doing brain scans and such, but I must say, the psychiatrist who helped us, Dr. Steven Storage, was a solid five stars in our experience. We left with actionable recommendations: lifestyle and diet changes, books to read, supplement stacks, and recommendations for hyperbaric oxygen therapy and psychotherapy. The brain scans they perform at the Amen Clinics are helpful and insightful. Unfortunately, for our teenager, they dropped the ball on his follow up counseling which is possibly damaging to our child and at the very least is totally unprofessional. Hollace Dowdy specifically asked to work with our son, had one session with him, went on vacation and then disappeared. She suggested he buy a journal, which he did, and he was so motivated. It was heartbreaking to see him as he realized his counselor rejected him (whether or not that was her intention, that's how he took it). We asked our Amen Clinics doctor about it then received an email from Hollace with some referrals for new therapists who were in no way a fit for our son. It was rude and hurtful to our son and to us. I'm trying not to just rant here, but counseling is the wrong profession for someone who is flaky, insensitive and unreliable. They profess you will get the help that you need from them, through treatment and therapy-if you pay $5300 for an initial downpayment and have a SPECT scan done. Unfortunately, they gave me the scan itself, and then didn't help with my mental health. We went to the "Amen clinic" looking for help with a rare mental illness, which I've had difficulty finding therapists to treat. So when the Amen clinic made us believe they had a therapist who could help, and that I would be "fast tracked" onto their schedule after paying for the scans, I was an easy victim and was lured in by that promise. I paid thousands of dollars for brain scans, which did not help my illness. After paying the thousands upfront for the SPECT scans, they never provided me with a therapist who could help my illness. During my appointments with the psychiatrist, Dr. Storage, he sid not seem to remember who I was or what he was treating me for. Dr. Storage admittedly held his appointments while he was driving or at public events. So, for what ended up costing me over $7000 in the end, the Dr. at "Amen Clinic" couldn't even be bothered to have appointments in office where he would be able to access his notes or patient history in order to appropriately treat the patient. This was a terrible experience, which was financially and emotionally draining. The worst part of all is that in the time spent at "Amen Clinic," my health declined severely. Back in 2021, I was generously gifted with a $6000 credit for the Amen Clinic. I have been suffering from what looked like a nervous breakdown but I had been misdiagnosed several times. The Amon clinic ran brain scans as they do for all of their patients and said that I had suffered from an anomalous stress-induced psychosis. Their findings were incredibly liberating and truly changed my life. I will always be grateful for them and for the work of Daniel Amen! This afternoon, I inquired about her ancestry. " Where is your family from?" " Colombia." " Bogotá, Medellín, Cartagena, where?" She gleams when she tells me. ( I don't want to give all of Rubby's facts online.) Apparently, people put all of South America into either Mexico or Brazil. It made her day that someone knew some details about her homeland.
