I recently had a major sewer problem in my home. My down stairs toilet was backing up and let's just say it wasn't pretty, it ended up on my floors. I had been using another plumbing company to clean my drain line on other occasions, but for some reason I felt compelled to try someone else. My daughter had mentioned David Hicks Plumbing, and how they found and fixed her low water pressure problem, and that the technician was very honest, so I got the number and gave then a try. I spoke with a very nice young lady, I think her name was Brenda, she was polite, and empathic regarding my situation. Needless to say I had Eddy the drain Specialist knocking at my door within 45 minutes, wow that was fast. Eddie immediately went straight to the backyard and removed a cover from the pipe sticking out of the ground, and yes, sewage overflow!!! He ran a drain machine for 30-45 minutes until we saw the water go down. He then ran a hose to wash down any residual waste. He showed me the end of his cable, it was roots. He told me not to worry, he called his field supervisor to come and bring a camera to put in the drain line and locate the problem. Alfonso the field supervisor showed up within 25min of the call. He was very polite and professional. He explained everything he was doing and even showed me how the sewer camera worked, I found it quite interesting. Alfonso found the roots, and also found another problem that I had no idea existed, apparently my sewer line and my neighbors were tied together, and shared the same city connection. Alfonso gave me numerous options to fix my problem, he gave me a spot repair, section or total replacement, I chose the replacement. At this point I don't want to deal with this again. Alfonso set everything up, from 811, city permit, excavation and installation. I was worried that my yard would look like a bomb went off after the work was done, but to my surprise It looked clean and maintained. The plumber Edwin and Apprentice Jacob who installed the sewer where also amazing. These guys looked like they really enjoy what they do. Alfonso returned later to inspect and check the function of the drains well after the job was done. All I have to say is I am glad I called David Hicks Plumbing, it was a great experience and I will definitely be using and recommending David Hicks for now on. Worked two hours and charged close to a thousand dollars to install one inferior faucet. Including the "discount." I live in a very nice neighborhood adjacent to Hick's offices and intent to spread the word. And BTW, in reviews of home repairs, you can disregard the five stars rating. Well this was my 3rd experience with David Hicks plumbing. This time I had a whole House repiping going from galvanize steel to a heavy plastic type pipe. The job was not at all easy but the guys Niles and Ian work so well together. hung in there remained positive ran into many snags but survived it, It was a huge job. Thanks guys! Spent 20 minutes with a drain snake on a drill for a charge of $350! I've heard about zip code pricing but that's ridiculous!

My place is ooooold. It's a very old building. And things tend to break. A lot. So when my water heater went out, along with some pressure issues in the shower, the landlord called in these guys. Normally, they use some other (creepy) guy, but I'm so very thankful these guys were able to help me out. They took a look at my water heater late in the day, so by the time they got permission to buy a new one, I had to wait til the next day. Not too big of a deal since I'd been showering at my sisters. So the next morning, around 10am, there they were. They replaced the water heater and made little noise doing so. I easily continued working on my own as they handled their business. And when I showed them the water pressure I was having with the shower head, they took a look at it for me AND FIXED IT. The previous plumber that inspected it around February had a different solution: replace the piping. But the fellas at David Hicks simply cleaned it out and it's now working better than even before I moved in. I'm sure the landlord needs to replace the pipes since this is such an old place, but this was a fast and easy solution for now. AND he cleaned out my shower head too after I insisted I'd take care of it. Use these guys. read more

My family has been using David Hick's Plumbing since the 1960's. It is a very reputable business. They have very professional workers that explain, in detail, the work, and their costs, that they do, before they do it. One employee, Ian, is up to date on most plumbing information. Ian helped us determine the best tankless water heater for our new home, and what to expect in the way of it's maintenance, going forward. Only once, in 1988, was there a problem with their work. It was a gas line that they forgot to shut off before leaving a house that I was remodeling. The house was vacant and nobody lived there. Once I found out, I called David. He apologized and took care of the incident immediately. David Hick's Plumbing also does commercial work, as I had them do all the plumbing maintenance work at historical Trinity Episcopal Church, in downtown Houston. I woke up early Monday morning to find my downstairs to be flooded with water overflowing out of my toilet. I was frantic. I contacted David Hicks Plumbing. It was 6:00 am, so I left a message. David Hicks, himself, called me back and calmly assured me that Joe was on his way. Joe arrived and immediately took control of the situation. He was very nice and polite, which was extremely appreciated. It was obvious that he was very knowledgeable and experienced. He found the problem, got my system working, and proposed a solution, so it would never happen again. I cannot thank him and David Hicks for making a horrible situation good again. Thank you, thank you. Follow up: Joe and Eric came back out to fix the cause of all my plumbing problems (as Joe had proposed the solution). They make a great team. When we first used them, they were wonderful. Used them several times...then we had a big problem with sewage backing up. They came promptly, but without the right tools. They farted around and tried to locate the sewage line in the yard. They got on the roof and tried. Nothing. They gave me a bill of a little more than $500.00. They said though they would give me a credit for that against mapping the sewer lines with a camera and that they would do it within two days. THEN they disappeared. Still had the sewer backup with floors buckling in the house. No calls returned and no mapping. After several days I called another company who did the mapping. They started sending me bills. I wrote them that they did NOTHING and then offered me a credit that they (clearly) never intended to offer. They sent me bills each month with interest accruing that I had not agreed to. Finally after more calls they agreed to accept half the original bill. I paid them. Now I am getting bills for the other half they agreed to waive PLUS what appears to be almost two years of interest charges. I personally believe these folks are untrustworthy. I would not refer them to my worst enemy; that would be too cruel. Avoid these plumbers!!!! read more

I have been ripped off by David Hicks Plumbing twice. The first time they replaced bathroom fixtures that didn't need to be replaced. I wrote that off as an honest mistake. The second time I asked them to literally buy the right hose and hook up a washing machine when they were at my house doing other work. $549.77 later had put in new plumbing to "get things up to code." The City had just had an authorized contractor replace the plumbing David Hicks Plumbing tore out. The City did this as part of a drainage line replacement to take drainage from the back of the property to the front. When I complained about the work and the bill, David Hicks told me to talk to his employee that did the work. The employee wouldn't return my messages. When I called David Hicks, he said I would have to meet the employee at my house and the employee would call me to set up a time. They employee didn't call. I called again to say his employee never called, he callously stood by the fact the work was done to take the plumbing up to code. When I asked him to come out and show me why the City's work, some of which the employee left in place wasn't at code, he told me I would have to talk to the employee. When I asked to see the permits they got from the City, required if work was being done to take the plumbing up to code, he got really nervous and explained they typically don't get permits. This puts the liability for code violations on his customers, as the work they do is not inspected by the City. When I pointed this out, he told me he would get back to me, By get back to me, he apparently meant send me another invoice with finance charges. I am reporting David Hicks to the City and the Better Business Bureau. DO NOT use David Hicks Plumbing. read more

I asked Mr. Hicks to install a new toilet I had purchased, because the contractors from a remodel failed to set the old one on the wax seal properly (3 years ago . . . gross!). The plumber arrived the next day and installed it, new seat and all. It's a beautiful toilet (I know, I know, how can a toilet possibly be beautiful?). And the installer did a beautiful job. Buyer Beware! I called David HIcks Plumbing to hook up my dryer and to link a sprinkler controller to a water line. The technician arrived at 10:20, and was done by 11:30. He had to leave mid-appointment for parts. He didn't want to settle the bill that day, said he'd send a bill. I received an invoice for $488. When I contested the amount, they backed off the time related to his mid-appointment trip for parts but told me the GPS record proves he was at my home otherwise. After getting ready for work post-appointment, I had to ask him to move his van so that I could get out of the driveway - he was still there. I sent a check for $287, an amount sufficient to cover his actual time and parts. When I didn't pay in full, they reversed the adjustment and began adding finance charges. I've have told them multiple times that I have no intention of paying the overcharge and for several months now they continue to send invoices. Bottom line, their technician showed up late, was unprepared, and then overcharged me for his time. My advice to you is TO SETTLE THE BILL THE SAME DAY TO AVOID BEING TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF. read more

This company was recommended by a neighbor and I was so pleased. After a constantly running toilet and a small leak in the sprinkler system earned me a $275 water bill I called for help! Ian came to the rescue. He was on time, worked efficiently, explained anything I asked about. He repaired, then replaced, the toilet. To be fair, the repair worked, but the 50 year old toilet was still slow and weird, so I opted to replace after he repaired it! This review is sorely overdue. I called Hicks Plumbing a couple months ago as my toilet tank had broken, and Robert came out for a free estimate. He said he would look around to see what they had in stock for a new toilet tank, and gave me his cell number. When he called back a day or two later, he told me he had found one -- but somehow, in the process, it had turned into a whole new toilet that had to be replaced, not just the tank part (which ups the price -- and also adds a ton more time & labor cost). I asked him to see whether he could find a toilet tank, since that was what was needed. He said he would look again and call me back. Never did. Over the course of a week, I called and left messages on his cell (which he had picked up before), but he ignored me completely. The needless upsell was extremely shady on his part (given how easy it is to access information on the Internet, I had already done a little research online to see how to address the problem - which is how I knew that for a two-part toilet, you can replace the parts separately). But the ignoring me was where he truly created a lot of ill will. I actually considered getting a whole new toilet, but knew, no matter what, that I would not be calling Robert to give him the work, given that he didn't even extend me the courtesy of returning a phone call. Poor business practice. What I don't think Robert at Hicks Plumbing gets is that things in the house will be needing plumbing and repair work generally, and what may be a small job now can build goodwill and trust so that he gets the big job later, as well as referrals and reviews. In the end, it was good that things with Robert and Hicks Plumbing ended up the way they did, because I put way more effort into looking for a really good plumber, and found one who was absolutely amazing, honest and responsive (and this guy can count on my business and my referrals anytime). read more

Called them on an evening and left a voicemail about a plumbing problem/emergency. Asked them to call me back first thing in the morning so that I could make arrangements for a plumber to come out. Didn't hear from them first thing so I called them again in the morning. Dispatcher said that they would be out that day. Plumbers showed up at 4:30. They couldn't fix the problem that evening and assured me that they would be back the next day. By 3:30 they hadn't shown up. I called the office and spoke with the dispatcher/receptionist. She said that the plumbers had a problem with their earlier job and that she would call them and then call me back right away so I could get an idea of when they might be to my house. Never heard back from her. When I called back, my call went to the answering machine. I plan on calling a new plumber as I desperately need the problem fixed. I definitely understand that things happen on plumbing jobs and they often take longer than initially planned. My main issue is with the absolute lack of follow through on the part of the office staff. The plumbers were very nice, helpful, and cleaned up after themselves. But when the office staff doesn't bother to call people back or schedule appointments or keep clients in the loop as to what is going on, then the quality of the plumbing is irrelevant. Most of us do not have the freedom to take days off from work hoping that at some point a plumber might show up. read more

Robert with Hick's plumbing came out to fix a shower leak that had been leaking down to my 1st floor for months. It really seemed like a big job. We left him unattended and called a few hours later to check on the status. He had finished the job long ago and i was billed for only about an hour. Robert could have charged me for several hours worth of work, but didn't. Great job and trust worthy.. hard to find these days. read more

Came home on a Sunday night to see my master bathroom covered in water. Called David Hicks plumbing at 8am on Monday morning. The man I spoke to was very friendly and helpful. My appointment was scheduled and Mike was at my home by 9am. He fixed the problem with my sink and the charge was only $140 for one hour of labor (I thought emergency plumbing services would be way more than that). Because water had been all over the floor, it soaked through my subfloor and I had to call out a restoration company to dry it out. Mike recommended a company who was also out within the hour and who were also very knowledgable and courteous. He even then called me later in the day to make sure I was pleased with his recommendation. I am very happy with David Hicks plumbing. I definitely recommend them. read more
