Dr. Rauterkus and his staff are extremely professional and courteous! I have been to several dentists over the years, and I have finally found a keeper! Why? First, you are greeted with warm hearted friends as you walk through the door. You are not only their customer, you are there friend! You are not a number or an appointment. They not only know your name, but enthusiastically ask you about your family by their names. They make you feel welcome and comfortable. Second, the Hygenist are wonderful. Again, they are genuinely interested in you and your family and your interests. They are professionals when it comes to cleaning your teeth. They explain every single step, and they don't rip you apart physically and emotionally. In other words, it is not a painful experience like I've had in the past. And I admit I'm not the best at taking care of my own teeth. They do not emotionally rip me apart and make me feel inadequate or stupid. They understand that not everyone is perfect and clean me up and gently encourage me to do better. And Dr. Rauterkus: he is as professional as they come. He does examine your teeth and gives you recommendations as to what needs to be done. But he does not, and I mean does not push you to get things done immediately. (Unlike other dentist that I have been to.) He kindly suggest that you take care of it at your convenience. For all of the reasons mentioned, they have customers. Those customers, me included, are keeping them busy. They don't need to, and they won't suck you dry financially or emotionally. Again, Dr. Rauterkus will suggest what needs to be done and let you decide when you want to take care of it. And when Dr. Rauterkus does do work on your teeth, he is as gentle as they come. He takes his time and also explains every single thing that he does. I used to be completely a nervous wreck when going to the dentist, especially when I was going to have work done that requires Novocain. Now I'm at piece, completely comfortable, and almost fall asleep. There is no pain, not even with the Novocain. Getting my teeth cleaned and fixed is actually enjoyable these days. Back to the front desk. My wife had some extensive dental work performed that wasn't completely covered by my insurance. My portion of the bill was pretty high. I really couldn't afford to pay it all at once. I mentioned my dilemma to the Receptionist and she gladly said that it would be no problem to make payments. Bottom line: I really can't say enough good things about the entire team. I love them, I love going there, and I love having my teeth cleaned and fixed when necessary. I went to David E. Rauterkus because my previous dentist moved out of town and Rauterkus was near. I went to him for approximately 5 years for regular check-ups and cleanings. During that time he replaced an existing crown and bridge. Rauterkus has in-house capability to make crowns and was able to make the crown twice, the first one failed to fit the tooth. He was successful on his second attempt, the appointment was only about 4-hrs. Although the crown did fit, the surface did not feel as smooth as the previous crown and was difficult to floss without it breaking. Several years later during a visit, he said I needed to have my bridge replaced and a quote was provided. I was somewhat reluctant to proceed with the bridge replacement for other reasons beyond the crown he replaced not feeling right and the quote seemed high. Unfortunately, I proceeded to have my bridge replaced by Rauterkus and I have regretted it every day since. It has been approximately 7-months and I went to a new dentist (this time after carefully reviewing credentials and dental reviews) for a check-up and cleaning. After a full set of x-rays, the dentist studied them for some time. He commented he did not see any problems that regular check-ups and cleanings would not take care of other than the bridge. He asked how long I have had it and was shocked to know that it was only 7~8 months old. He took close-up pictures of where my bridge glues to the base of my teeth showing how the base was exposed. This is the third bridge I have had and can say for a fact that if the bridge Rauterkus made is a reflection of his dental skills, then he should give up his practice and not ruin anymore smiles. I am writing to Rauterkus's response regarding a post dated 6/28/2012 defining the horrible job Rauterkus performed on a bridge replacement. First his response was not until two years later, well after I had quit going to him. If he truly was concerned about correcting his mistake he would have reviewed his files after seeing the post for recent bridge replacements, not two years down the road. His excuse is as bad as his dentistry. He knew very well at the time he replaced my bridge that he had messed up. He could have said something then, but instead chose to ignore it. I continued going to him for several months after he replaced the bridge for cleanings before terminating him as my dentist. I believe he saw the review shortly after posting because I saw one of his dental assistants in church shortly after and they gave me a long cold stare. There is still time for him to make restitution for the damages. He took $4450 to destroy my smile. I will gladly take my money back...And as for his dental capabilities, beware. read more

This is a great dental office. The staff is welcoming, attentive and helpful. The dental hygienists are the most knowledgeable and professional I've ever seen. They make sure your experience is pleasant and do an excellent job cleaning, as well as give good preventative advice. I've had a lot of dental problems and Dr. Rauterkus is the best dentist I have ever had! After moving to San Diego in 1992, I saw a dentist who kept doing work on me but could not help my tooth pain. I got a referral to Dr Rauterkus and drove a distance to see him. He took time to listen to my symptoms & assess the problem, and then he fixed my tooth and got rid of my pain. Dr. David is very smart, an excellent clinician and a very caring doctor. I have seen him for many problems over the past 22 years, and he has always done an excellent job for me. I was referred to Dr. Rauterkus a couple of years ago and have been very pleased ever since I started there. His office is up to date with the latest technology. He has all sorts of cool gadgets that make your experience as painless as possible. He even has TVs with headphones that you can listen and watch while he is working on you. It has been my experience that usually my appointments are over before I even realize it. His staff is very friendly and sweet. There is one girl who I always look forward to seeing and I always hope to get her. Her name is Julie. She is my favorite to work with (and she is smoking hot). Everyone else I have worked with though has been great as well. I definitely recommend going to him. I'm so grateful to have found this office! For years, I drove 3 hours to see my childhood dentist. The effort led to too much time between visits and poor care of my teeth. I searched for a dentist near home in San Diego, tried two, but was very unhappy. So, I went back to traveling to my childhood dentist. After a VERY long history of horrible dentists a friend recommended David Rauterkus to me and I couldn't be more grateful! I notice many dentists to be money hungry and more concentrated on their financial gain rather than your dental health. Its very refreshing to find a Dentist who really cares about you and really knows what he is doing.. and not to mention is the nicest man ever (and is quite handsome lol)!
