This review is for Dr. Campbell. I am so thrilled that Dr. Campbell is in Del Mar! I have been going to him for over 5 years now at his downtown location. Now that he is so close to me I will have my husband and kids go to him as well, with the exception of my eight year old. When my youngest child was 4 she started going to the dentist regularly. She was and is very diligent about her oral hygiene. Much more so than my older two. Every time she went to the dentist she had at least 1 cavity. I felt so badly because she took such great care of her teeth. I happened to ask Dr. Campbell about it when she was about 6. By this time she had a silver cap on one of her molars and at least 8 fillings. Dr. Campbell explained to me that it wasn't her fault and that she had an extremely aggressive bacteria. Apparently we all have a different kind in our mouth some are more aggressive than others. He told me the name of the product he uses for his patients who obviously are adults and said I should find a pediatric dentist that uses it in their practice. He explained in detail the science behind the product and it made perfect sense to me. So I searched and searched and I finally found 1 dentist in San Diego that uses it and believes in it. Can I tell you... my daughter has never had a cavity since she started the product! I have had her getting cleanings every three months since she was 4. We can now do the normal 2 but I still have her go for at least 3. Anyway, if I hadn't asked Dr. Campbell I am sure her mouth would almost be filled with silver caps by now. I found Dr. Campbell after years and years of research. I had veneers done back in 2005 and had a horrible experience. I then had them redone in 2009 by a different dentist and they were gorgeous but they kept breaking it coming off! With each veneer that broke or came off I needed it replaced. Eventually I had so many replacements the gorgeous teeth I had at first were now mismatched and looked fake. Veneers are very expensive and I was so afraid at this point because of how much I had already spent with the first 2 sets I didn't want to pay for a third set and have the same issues. I just wanted to make sure I got it done right this time. That's how I found Dr. Campbell, and I am so glad that I did. My veneers are absolutely gorgeous and they look so natural. Most importantly I can eat everything and I don't have to worry about them breaking or popping off anymore. I can't thank Dr. Campbell enough for all that he has done for me and my family. He is constantly learning and always shares his knowledge, which I absolutely love. Now that my son is 16 and oldest daughter is 19, I absolutely know that they are in great hands with him. I will be booking our family cleanings now in his Del Mar office and I am so happy he is close! Thank you Dr. Campbell for all of your hard work and care you have taken over the years with me. I have never had a rougher and shorter annual dental cleaning in my life. It took less than 12 minutes and only used the scaler. I was not satisfied and told Dr. Ed I was not happy and he got upset and told me to show him what teeth were not cleaned. I was hesitant to go to this dentist after some of the Yelp reviews but was pleasantly surprised! I had to have a deep cleaning, which was done by a female dentist there (can't remember her name) but I had no pain at all and she had wonderful bedside manner! I also had some cosmetic dental work done. They were quick to give me estimates for the work, which I thought were very reasonable, and I was able to get in and get the work done very quickly. Lastly, I want to talk about the ladies at the front desk...they're awesome! I had a newborn, which I mentioned at my first visit, and they always remembered and asked me about him every time after. I also had to get a referral through insurance to a periodontist and they took care of it the SAME DAY! I don't think I've ever had that happen before and I really appreciated it. Dr Edward walked into the room, coughed in his hand, then proceeded to do my exam without washing his hands first He also DID NOT WEAR GLOVES OR A MASK DURING MY EXAM. I could feel every breath he took on my face. If that wasn't bad enough the scaler got caught in a piece of tape on the lamp while he was trying to move it. Somebody tell me where I can see a good, honest dentist who cares enough to do a good enough job? Or am I asking for too much here? I've had a toothache since early this year and unfortunately, I have my first HMO dental insurance for the first time in my life and have had a fiasco getting a decent dental care. This is the second dental office I've been assigned to since I've been seeking care. My HMO insurance gave me a very small list of places I can choose from and there were a lot of bad yelp reviews for most of the places listed. I chose this place because it had 4 stars, though there were only 5 reviewers. What a huge nightmare I couldn't wake up from this turned out to be. I've had the worst time JUST scheduling for something to happen and it's been such a struggle just to get that going. I've called this office a few times and my calls were answered by a male a few times and a very snooty female once. The staff who answered were both rude from the very beginning. They answered the phone already irritated and was not making any effort to hide their annoyance. Still, I kept calm and actually tolerated both of them but both of them were in a hurry to get off the phone every time. Neither were helpful and were unable to be of any comfort to me even though I had a huge emergency. From (many, many) experience, angry employees usually mean an even more disgruntled, uncaring employer (dentist). Why would he let his employees treat patients that way? Why hire these kinds of people in the first place? Most likely because they are cheap to keep on the payroll which of course they're unhappy about. But a job is a job. I'm in the healthcare field and I'm all too familiar with this kind of crap. Crap employees, crap dentist, crap dental care. Proceed at your own risk. read more

I've had a bridge on my front teeth since I was a kid. It's always bothered me and I haven't found a good dentist since I moved to California a few years ago. I recently changed my insurance and found Dr. Ed conveniently a few miles from my house. I expressed my concerns to him at my first appointment and he suggested a porcelain crown. He even got started on the procedure that same day! The crown was supposed to take 3 weeks to come in but the receptionist called 2 weeks later to let me know it had arrived and that Dr. Ed could see me the same day to put it in. Dr. Ed and staff have been taking care of my whole family's teeth for over 10 years now. The staff are always friendly, and Have been very accommodating in working with the challenges of the ever-changing world of insurance. I have had other dentists in the past that try to talk me into spending money on extra procedures, because they receive so little from the insurance companies for basic care, but Dr. Ed has always been honest, and when I did need work done beyond the basic, the charges have always been very reasonable. read more

I called to get a dental appointment person called Brea answered the phone, and rudely without greeting try to drill me with questions back to back with loud voice.. when I asked is this the tone you should be talking to me..she was sarcastically repeated last question loudly " date of birth" No apologies, when I asked her to put me through to Dr. she said he is busy will leave message and I never received a call back explain the situation. Having an HMO dental plan is definitely not something I would opt for but I did not have a choice. The first dentist office that I tried to visit was horrible so I had to get re-authorized to see another dentist and I choose this office because it was close to my work. The building is definitely old and the inside could be improved for being in Del Mar but all in all I was pleased with my visit. They were on time and professional. I wasnt scammed and they did not try to up sell me. It is hard to find a physician that you like and know you can go back to. I will go back to this dental office. read more

This review is for my daughter who is 4 years old. I was told by my insurance that I have to bring her to my dentist before she can be referred to a pediatric dentist. I was really hesitant on bringing her to an "adult" dentistry but boy did they surprise me! The lady who took her xrays and did her cleaning was just AWESOME with her! Even better was the wonderful dentist (forgot her name) who was so sweet and enthusiastic with my daughter. I actually loved her experience so much that I'll just keep her here! To my surprise they were all wonderful. The lady who works the front office may come off as rude but she is just quiet and really sweet :) I highly recommend this place for kids! read more

This place is AWFUL. I saw Dr. Ed Farajzadeh for about 1-2 years for regular dental cleaning and X-rays (I've never had any procedures done). I needed to get a mouthguard done so I checked with their office and it would cost about $450 since my insurance wouldn't cover it. A friend dentist of mine told me she could do it in her lab for $100 out of courtesy so it was no-brainer. I went last month to Dr. Ed's office for my regular teeth cleaning and I told them that I managed to get a professional mouth guard. Dr. Ed Farajzadeh got JEALOUS and yelled at me! He didn't even check my teeth, was furious and rude, yelled at me and walked out. It came out of no where! I was always a loyal client and never withheld any information from him. They are incredible unprofessional and even sent me a letter turning me down for future care because he claimed the "communication line had been broken". STAY AWAY. I was so shocked by his behavior that I didn't even get a chance to defend myself, it was so insulting. Find a better dentist!! read more

Dr. Ed's office is the best I've ever been to, and, at 50, I've unfortunately been to a few over the years. They work quickly, efficiently, professionally....every time, no matter what the procedure, I'm in-and-out in under an hour. Remarkable, and the work is quality. Dr. Ed is a kind man, and knows his stuff. His staff is very competent, and keeps in touch well. Dr. Ed and his office have always been reasonable with me on the costs of procedures - soreness in fillings, cleanings, repairing front chipped teeth. Frankly, I'm amazed my health insurance program has Dr. Ed as an option - and grateful. I wouldn't take the criticisms posted here too seriously. I'm certain their experience was not as pleasant as mine, but mistakes happen sometimes, and sometimes people are grumpy - those people are probably more likely to write a (bad) review. My 5 or 6 trips over the years have been great - the equipment and quality work are, in my experience, state-of-the-art. When I move from San Diego, I'll have a hard time finding a dentist I like anywhere near as much. read more

I saw Dr Ed With a sore tooth last week. I was quoted $500+ for the procedure to fix it, a root canal and a crown. Half of which I needed to pay today when I came in for the procedure. I agreed and scheduled my appointment. Today with 2 min notice I was told that amount was now $700+ due to a mistake and I would need to pay half of that or they would not provide services. I explained that that wasn't going to work for me I could only pay the original agreed on amount and i could pay the rest over the next month in 2 payments. I was told they wouldn't provide services today if I could not compensate for their mistake and was turned away after 2 weeks and still in pain. As it turns out my HMO said I shouldn't have been charged more than $400 from the beginning. read more

I had a crown done here and started having sensitivity pain and when I checked it out I saw two metal dots that were visible from my crown. I went in to have them check it out and also to schedule my routine cleaning and they said it was normal. Btw. my crown cost over $600 with insurance so I thought maybe they would offer to make it look better as that is not a little bit of money for me. I also have a lower retainer that had come loose and needed to be re-bonded, they quoted me $160. I thought that seemed high since this has happened once before and I remembering it taking only a few minutes to fix. I walked out thinking I would do my research and on my way out decided to stop by another dentist to see how much they would charge to see if it was in line with other dentists. They quoted me $50 and I wasn't even a patient there. I called my dentist, Dr. Ed and told them my quote and asked if they could match the price so I could get it done. They said no and told me that I needed to have all of my records moved from there office if I was going to see another dentist. I told them I would be happy not to if they could be more competitive in their pricing. The office is very dirty and they are doing construction on it. The equipment is old and not up to par, the x-ray vest had deep rips on it and I feel like they are priced really high especially under these conditions. I would recommend going somewhere else which is what I should of done from the beginning. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Farajzadeh for the past five years. Until recently, the only visits I made were for routine exams and cleanings. Although I wasn't particularly enamored with Dr. Farajzadeh, the office, or the staff, the convenient location to my work kept me going. All of this changed a few months ago when I went in for reconstruction work on my two upper front teeth (they had been severely worn down from my awful habit of grinding my teeth). Two things went wrong: (1) When I got home, I noticed that my two front teeth had been reconstructed to dramatically different sizes. My husband and friends have confirmed that this is not a figment of my imagination and that I do indeed now have one tooth that is much larger than the other. (2) The receptionist said I had to pay the $500 up front because they weren't sure what my insurance would cover [I later found out that most offices don't force you to pay up front and that they wait for the insurance provider to issue an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) detailing what the patient owes]. This wouldn't have bothered me much if it were not for the fact that when I received my EOB, it stated that I am only responsible for $50 and per my dentist's contractual obligations, the dentist is NOT allowed to charge me for the difference. I have spent the past five weeks trying to get a refund of $450. At first, the dental office claimed they hadn't received the EOB, but when I found out from my insurance that the check the insurance sent to the dental office had been cashed, my dental office admitted that they had received the check and said they would send me a refund. Each time I spoke with them, they were rather rude. After another week had passed without receiving a refund, I was too nervous to call again and decided to file a dispute with my credit card (I paid the initial $500 via my credit card). My credit card immediately refunded $450. Low and behold, the next day I receive a call from the dental office. The woman with whom I spoke said they would be sending me a check for only $300, which is the difference between what I paid and what my insurance reimbursed them. I read the woman the line from my EOB specifically stating that they can't charge me the difference and that I am only responsible for $50. She interrupted me to say "That's not the way it works." I responded, "Madam, I am reading to you directly from the EOB" and was shocked when she hung up on me. I have since confirmed with my insurance that I am indeed only responsible for $50. I would strongly urge anyone considering Dr. Farajzadeh to run in the opposite direction. His work is subpar and his front desk staff is rude. read more

I first came into Dr. Farajzadeh, "Dr. Ed's" Clairemont office over a year ago, and was pleasantly surprised by his warm staff. When I first called to make an appointment, they were wonderful, answered my questions, and I was assured that they are great about answering any dental insurance questions or treatment I may need. I was a bit skeptical because I have an HMO insurance, and had heard stories from friends that the quality of work was not as good, but on the contrary, I was very happy with my first visit, and every visit thereafter. My previous dentist replaced the same crown 2 times, and neither crown ever felt quite right. They also always made me feel rushed in and out of their office. When I came to Dr. Ed, he explained that he would re-do the crown for me, and it not only looks a lot better, but it feels great. I have not had any problems with it since. They have always been very professional, and their office is so clean. I recommend Dr. Ed to anyone who would like quality dental care. :) read more

The same thing happen to my family! They told me that I needed a deep cleaning procedure and that it would cost $800. I told them they were crazy and found another dentist for my entire family. They were also very rude to me because I was not willing to pay out of pockt for this service they said I needed. We are very happy with our new dentist!!!!! They wanted to charge me for my dental records and x-rays as well. The x-rays are not digital so they not useful to most dentists anyways.
